:00:09. > :00:13.Hello. Good evening. I'm Dani Sinha. A clear`up operation is underway
:00:14. > :00:17.after a storm surge wrecked cars and badly damaged a restaurant in
:00:18. > :00:20.Milford on Sea last night. More than 30 diners had to be rescued after
:00:21. > :00:30.windows were shattered and the sea flooded the restaurant. David Fenton
:00:31. > :00:35.reports. Flooded, buffeted by 80 mph winds and shards of flying grass, it
:00:36. > :00:43.was a Valentines Day to remember. These diners spend two hours trapped
:00:44. > :00:48.in a beach`side restaurant, all but destroyed by the storm. It was not
:00:49. > :00:56.safe for anyone, there was glass being thrown. It felt bad. It was a
:00:57. > :01:03.bit like the Titanic! Eyewitnesses described rocks the size of cannon
:01:04. > :01:08.balls flying off the beach. It was very scary, the windows were
:01:09. > :01:12.smashing one at a time. It started on the ground floor and went up to
:01:13. > :01:18.the first floor. When the army rescue trucks emerged, the ferocity
:01:19. > :01:23.of the storm became clear. A windscreen shattered by flying
:01:24. > :01:29.stones. Even the protective sides were pierced through. The same this
:01:30. > :01:36.morning, utter devastation. It was widespread. It was really scary at
:01:37. > :01:44.first. We knew that high tide was at 11 but this was kicking off at nine.
:01:45. > :01:49.I was pleased that people made the effort to come out that it was
:01:50. > :01:53.heartbreaking to see their cars strewn over the road. It was a
:01:54. > :01:58.memorable Valentines evening but for the wrong reasons. For the emergency
:01:59. > :02:08.services, the rescue may be over but the work goes on. We are working
:02:09. > :02:13.with the district council. Be clear up has now begun but could take
:02:14. > :02:16.days, if not weeks. Meanwhile, last night's gale force winds and heavy
:02:17. > :02:19.rain caused havoc across the region. Environment Agency workers and
:02:20. > :02:23.firefighters were out for much of the night in the worst hit parts of
:02:24. > :02:33.Hampshire and Sussex. Ben Moore reports. As storms savaged the
:02:34. > :02:39.South, Hants Fire crews dealt with 100 incidents. Floodwater seeped
:02:40. > :02:46.into homes in Chichester. One home was under one foot of water. In
:02:47. > :02:50.Basingstoke, a woman was rescued as were residents of 60 bungalows. In
:02:51. > :02:56.Winchester, the battle to save the city continues. The Army dropped
:02:57. > :03:03.hundreds of gravel bags into the channel. We are not increasing flood
:03:04. > :03:09.risks to any properties in the area. This work is similar to what we did
:03:10. > :03:18.upstream by the M3some days ago. It had some impact on the river flow
:03:19. > :03:23.and reduces the river flow. The army were scrambled to shore up flood
:03:24. > :03:27.defences. Firefighters and the Army used sandbags and a super`strength
:03:28. > :03:31.pump to try and stop water breaching defences. As the storm passes and
:03:32. > :03:38.debris lines the south coast, thoughts can turn, at last, towards
:03:39. > :03:42.the clean`up. People here in Milford on Sea said they have never seen
:03:43. > :03:47.anything like this, and it is testament to the power of the
:03:48. > :03:51.storm. These were once the beach huts on the front, made of concrete.
:03:52. > :03:58.They are torn up, ripped apart and smashed on the seafront. Onto
:03:59. > :04:01.football and disappointment for Southampton ` they were knocked out
:04:02. > :04:07.of the FA Cup following a one`nil defeat at Sunderland. Meanwhile, the
:04:08. > :04:10.FA trophy semifinal between Gosport and Havant and Waterlooville was
:04:11. > :04:13.postponed. In the football league, Bournemouth drew against Burnley.
:04:14. > :04:16.The MK Dons beat Oldham. And in League Two there were also good
:04:17. > :04:18.winds for Oxford and Portsmouth. Let's get that all`important weather
:04:19. > :04:27.forecast with Holly Green. Good morning. We have frost forming and a
:04:28. > :04:35.Met Office weather warning. A quiet nights, clear spells and lows to the
:04:36. > :04:40.single figures. We starts tomorrow on a cold but bright note but with
:04:41. > :04:45.plenty of sunny spells. Much lighter winds than we have seen.
:04:46. > :04:51.Temperatures of eight or nine. Thereafter we see outbreaks of rain
:04:52. > :04:54.tomorrow night and they remain with us through Monday. Have a lovely
:04:55. > :04:57.evening. That's all from us for now. Your BBC Local Radio station will
:04:58. > :05:10.have the latest on the flooding and weather situation where you are.
:05:11. > :05:17.Hello, good evening, finally some quieter weather on the way for the
:05:18. > :05:20.British Isles for the remainder of this weekend, also somewhat for the
:05:21. > :05:26.week ahead. More on that in a moment. Tonight, the biggest story
:05:27. > :05:32.is the winds continuing to ease Into the small hours of Sunday, the
:05:33. > :05:35.winds will be light. Late showers for Scotland, Northern Ireland and
:05:36. > :05:39.northern England. A lot of groundwater around elsewhere with a
:05:40. > :05:44.wide spread rural frost predicted we are looking at the prospect of
:05:45. > :05:49.patches of ice on Sunday. There is a lot of sunshine to come throughout
:05:50. > :05:53.the day. With light winds it will feel pleasant. Highs to Scotland and
:05:54. > :05:57.Northern Ireland of six or seven. To the south, eight, nine or ten in the
:05:58. > :06:00.south-east of England. To the west, showers will brush into Northern
:06:01. > :06:05.Ireland through the afternoon. High pressure, as we move from Sunday
:06:06. > :06:10.into Monday, gives way to an area of low pressure couldn't coming in from
:06:11. > :06:11.the Atlantic. This is nothing like the bull's-eye
