:00:00. > :00:07.two weeks' time. That is all from us tonight but
:00:08. > :00:14.Hello. Good evening, I'm Dani Sinha. A community has come together in a
:00:15. > :00:19.big clear`up operation today, after Friday night's storm. The seafront
:00:20. > :00:23.at Milford on Sea in Hampshire was devastated. But the area was left
:00:24. > :00:26.out of a severe flood warning ` when neighbouring communities were put on
:00:27. > :00:41.the highest level of alert. Ben Moore reports. All hands on deck,
:00:42. > :00:44.residents of Milford on Sea worked with the Army to clear up their
:00:45. > :00:52.promenade after the worst storm in living memory, but some think the
:00:53. > :00:56.town could have been better prepared. The owner of the marina
:00:57. > :01:00.restaurant with dirty diners had to be rescued that he would not have
:01:01. > :01:04.opened if he knew the area was at risk. Nobody came to the premises.
:01:05. > :01:07.We had some strong winds here previously and although gravel has
:01:08. > :01:11.been over the wall, it never broke any glass so we were not expecting
:01:12. > :01:17.it to be as bad as it was. The Environment Agency had issued a
:01:18. > :01:25.flood warning for nearby towns but Milford on Sea was not included and
:01:26. > :01:30.it wore the want. `` bore the brunt. The problem was the high winds and
:01:31. > :01:35.strong waves which were stronger than we have been before, and when
:01:36. > :01:40.it was plugged into our models, we did not know there will be an issue
:01:41. > :01:45.down there. The repair bill will be hundreds of thousands of pounds but
:01:46. > :01:51.warning or not, nothing could have stopped the weather. Somebody asked
:01:52. > :02:01.me this morning, who can I go to to blame? Go to church, I said! Blue
:02:02. > :02:10.skies all people back to Milford on Sea today and the waters are calm
:02:11. > :02:14.again. Around 5,000 homes in our region are still without power. The
:02:15. > :02:17.distributor SSE says it has more than a thousand engineers working to
:02:18. > :02:20.restore supplies ` and aims to have everyone back on by tonight.
:02:21. > :02:22.Meanwhile, staff from the Environment Agency, Hampshire Fire
:02:23. > :02:26.and Rescue, the Army and local authorities have been working to
:02:27. > :02:29.sure up a river bank in Romsey. They're laying 40,000 sandbags to
:02:30. > :02:32.protect the area that's under threat of erosion ` which could lead to
:02:33. > :02:36.flooding in some three hundred homes. The plan is to redirect water
:02:37. > :02:39.back into the River Test further downstream to prevent the risk of
:02:40. > :02:42.flooding. On the Isle of Wight the army has been involved in moving
:02:43. > :02:48.residents from an area threatened by landslip. One home on the Undercliff
:02:49. > :02:52.dry between Niton and St Lawrence had to be evacuated on Friday but
:02:53. > :02:55.the whole area has now been deemed too unstable and all residents told
:02:56. > :03:03.to leave. Soldiers have been moving people's belongings from their
:03:04. > :03:06.homes. A man is due to appear in court in Reading tomorrow charged
:03:07. > :03:16.with causing the deaths of two cyclists in Berkshire. 39`year`old
:03:17. > :03:20.Kris Jarvis and John Moorland, who were 30, both died after a collision
:03:21. > :03:23.in Purley on Thames on Thursday night. Alexander Walters who's 31
:03:24. > :03:26.and from Beech Road in Purley on Thames has been charged with two
:03:27. > :03:29.counts of causing death by dangerous driving and three other motoring
:03:30. > :03:32.offences. A male pedestrian has died in an accident on one of
:03:33. > :03:36.Southampton's busiest roads tonight. The 70`year`old man, who has not
:03:37. > :03:39.been named, collided with a car on The Avenue at around four o'clock.
:03:40. > :03:42.He was taken to Southampton General Hospital but pronounced dead shortly
:03:43. > :03:45.after he arrived. The road was closed for sometime causing problems
:03:46. > :03:50.for motorists heading to and from the nearby M3. In football, a great
:03:51. > :03:55.win for Reading this afternoon as they took three points against high
:03:56. > :03:58.flying Queen's Park Rangers. Gareth McCleary's brilliant strike put the
:03:59. > :04:02.seal on a 3`1 victory ` for the Royals to firm up their sixth place
:04:03. > :04:06.in the table. All the goals on South Today tomorrow. And in the draw for
:04:07. > :04:13.the quarter finals of the FA Cup, Brighton will play Sunderland IF
:04:14. > :04:17.they can beat Hull tomorrow. OK, let's move on to the all`important
:04:18. > :04:24.weather forecast. Here is Holly Green. Good evening. Today felt like
:04:25. > :04:29.a taste of spring but we have rain moving in. We could see some grass
:04:30. > :04:37.frost tomorrow but we have a Met office warning in place for parts of
:04:38. > :04:41.Dorset if that rain falls onto saturated services. Mostly light
:04:42. > :04:48.rain tomorrow and quite lustfully at times as well, highs of eight to 10
:04:49. > :04:51.degrees. `` quite blustery. Wednesday night and Thursday will be
:04:52. > :04:54.wet and windy once more. That's all from us this evening. More on the
:04:55. > :04:58.BBC News website. We're back tomorrow morning during BBC
:04:59. > :05:00.Breakfast. But for now, from all of us here, a very good evening to you.
:05:01. > :05:11.Goodnight. Good evening. In the midst of any
:05:12. > :05:15.normal winter weather for the week ahead would be fairly unremarkable.
:05:16. > :05:19.Some rain in places, some strong winds at times, but of course we are
:05:20. > :05:22.in the midst of no normal winter. It is worth emphasising that with -
:05:23. > :05:29.the weather this week will be less angry and volatile overall, a fair
:05:30. > :05:34.bit calmer. Calmer but by no means dry. Outbreaks of rain will spread
:05:35. > :05:35.across much of the UK through the night. There will be some snow mixed
