:00:50. > :00:55.Hello, I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to South Today. In tonight's programme.

:00:56. > :00:58.A respite from the rain but no let`up for people dealing with

:00:59. > :01:06.flooding as more residents on one estate are advised to leave. We keep

:01:07. > :01:09.being told that it is rainwater which is coming up from underground,

:01:10. > :01:11.and there is still a lot more to come.

:01:12. > :01:14.Counting the cost of four weeks of storms, the fisherman whose lost

:01:15. > :01:20.thousands of pounds of income and equipment. Most of the fishing fleet

:01:21. > :01:24.has not been out of the second week in December. Generally the markets

:01:25. > :01:26.are good at Christmas, so the fishermen tend to put the money away

:01:27. > :03:09.to put them through the winter. How pulling the army

:03:10. > :03:12.that. `` had a choice. They have been submerged for two weeks. The

:03:13. > :03:16.council keeps moving us, he is really unsettled. It is getting

:03:17. > :03:21.really ridiculous now. 50 homes have been evacuated in total with 50 more

:03:22. > :03:25.at risk. Heavy rain has caused water to rise through the ground and the

:03:26. > :03:30.sewers cannot cope. Sewage is being thrown back out into people 's

:03:31. > :03:34.homes. Awful, absolutely awful especially when no one is going to

:03:35. > :03:37.sort it. We just got a quote for ?600 for a week's rental. Cannot

:03:38. > :05:28.afford that. It's not just water around them. We know that

:05:29. > :05:35.flood water is contaminated, full of pretty nasty bugs. You can get

:05:36. > :05:40.problems with diarrhoea, vomiting and skin infections. The risks are

:05:41. > :05:47.actually relatively low because we have looked before at places that

:05:48. > :05:55.have had flooding, and we have not seen that many people going to their

:05:56. > :05:59.GPs and AMD. But it is still good to take precautions? Yes, it is still

:06:00. > :06:04.contaminated, so wear gloves, wash your hands if you are exposed to it

:06:05. > :07:46.and wear sensible clothes. Stay away from it. We are talking about past

:07:47. > :07:51.maybe 1am. Ready to be deployed. And here we are now. The people are

:07:52. > :07:57.ground. They have had a lot of problems. We are just here to do our

:07:58. > :08:00.bit. 28 crews from across the UK are here as part of the National

:08:01. > :08:06.resilience scheme which deploys units to where they are most needed.

:08:07. > :08:09.It is not just crews and personnel who have come here to Berks, they

:08:10. > :08:16.have brought with them some serious hardware as well. These are high

:08:17. > :08:20.volume pumps from Glamorgan, Durham, Darlington and Norfolk. And they can

:08:21. > :08:28.pump out 70,000 litres of water every minute. Berkshire is fighting

:08:29. > :10:07.the floods on two fronts. In the east, but also in

:10:08. > :10:11.The major issue is getting the gear from the ground which are stuck in

:10:12. > :10:16.the rocks, at ?60 per pop, that is quite expensive. This is only the

:10:17. > :10:18.fifth time that Tony has been to see since Christmas. He is a national

:10:19. > :10:23.representative for local fishermen and says they are in a dire

:10:24. > :10:27.situation. It is very serious. Most of the serious fishing fleet has not

:10:28. > :10:31.been out since the second week of December. The infrastructure has

:10:32. > :10:38.been damaged onshore and also our fishing gear. Most the `` by the

:10:39. > :10:43.time most of our fishermen get out there, they will be down three

:10:44. > :10:44.months. Tony is having to go to harbour not in his regular location

:10:45. > :12:30.which has been damaged by would include 540 houses at

:12:31. > :12:35.Larkhill. The army wants to build to the east of the camp. At Bulford,

:12:36. > :12:39.another 240 new homes. The army has a number of possible sites. Tidworth

:12:40. > :12:44.would see 200 and they could go on land mainly to the north of the

:12:45. > :12:49.town. The same number would be built at Ludgershall and Perham Down. The

:12:50. > :12:53.army says it will also need new mess buildings, garages and workshops

:12:54. > :13:02.inside existing bases. James Ingham reports.

:13:03. > :13:07.Tidworth barracks, one of the main military sites on Salisbury plain.

:13:08. > :14:45.This garrison town is one of four that will

:14:46. > :14:53.be crucial for the military's future.

:14:54. > :14:57.Passengers had to be rushed to safety after a double decker bus

:14:58. > :14:59.caught fire on the A338 spur road heading out of Bournemouth. It's

:15:00. > :15:03.believed the fire, which destroyed the double decker bus, may have been

:15:04. > :15:06.caused by an electrical fault in the engine. No one was injured. The

:15:07. > :15:08.incident which happened near the Ashley Heath roundabout caused long

:15:09. > :15:10.delays. Hampshire police are growing

:15:11. > :15:13.increasingly concerned for the welfare of a man who hasn't been

:15:14. > :15:16.seen since Saturday. Michael Bateman, who is 28 and from

:15:17. > :15:20.Medstead, left his home address without taking his regular

:15:21. > :15:26.medication. Police say they don't believe he has any money with him.

:15:27. > :15:26.The government says new figures showing another drop in

:15:27. > :17:05.unemployment, is further proof its It has been very hard. The first few

:17:06. > :17:10.months before John admitted it, they were probably the worst because he

:17:11. > :17:12.was not himself. He was not a nice person to be around and he's

:17:13. > :17:22.normally fund and bubbly and a nice person. John's recovery is ongoing

:17:23. > :17:24.but he has regained his motivation. Having formerly been sceptical about

:17:25. > :17:28.depression now he wants to raise awareness that it is something

:17:29. > :17:33.people need to talk about. He is planning a solo walk to the South

:17:34. > :17:39.Pole in December. His expedition is called there to express. Expression

:17:40. > :17:45.and depression do not go hand`in`hand, so I am trying to

:17:46. > :19:25.break that by doing the expression of expressing myself.

:19:26. > :19:28.today that even the steeliness of the Hampshire professional slightly

:19:29. > :19:34.wary. Looking back at them, they are a little bit different in size to

:19:35. > :19:37.what I am normally used to. It is going to be interesting. A great

:19:38. > :19:42.experience to be able to train with these boys. Two of the South's

:19:43. > :19:46.leading professional club unveiled a new haircut. Members of season

:19:47. > :19:50.ticket holders for each will be able to enjoy discounts and benefits at

:19:51. > :19:54.the other. They are too great sports, family orientated, great

:19:55. > :19:59.crowds for both of them, it was a great opportunity to get together

:20:00. > :20:00.and help each other out. The aim is to offer supporters of the two clubs

:20:01. > :20:07.the chance to experience a sport they previously may not have had a

:20:08. > :21:44.chance to. To get a partnership between London Irish

:21:45. > :21:49.the year, was ?630,000. No surprise to see the covers on

:21:50. > :21:52.there! The covers will be on everywhere at the minute. The

:21:53. > :21:56.cricket season is not to far away, nearly March, which means it's

:21:57. > :21:59.nearly next month. Cricket reporters across the country cannot wait!

:22:00. > :22:03.There are a few in our office ticking off the days!

:22:04. > :22:06.70 years ago allied forces based here in the south were beginning to

:22:07. > :22:12.train for the Normany landings of June 1944. As they did so nearly 70

:22:13. > :22:15.years ago Edna Miller took a very special flight. As a member of the

:22:16. > :22:19.Women's Auxiliary Air Force in 1944 she got a chance to fly a Horsa

:22:20. > :22:22.glider which was being delivered from Hurn airfield to Oxford. Edna

:22:23. > :22:27.has never forgotten Today she went to the army Air Corps

:22:28. > :24:05.Museum in Hampshire to come back? That was quite an eye

:24:06. > :24:14.opener for me. On June six, 1944, men were towed across the channel

:24:15. > :24:19.towards nobody in the `` Normandy in the dark. Thousands meant the

:24:20. > :24:23.journey but many did not mean to fight. This is a serious business,

:24:24. > :24:27.many men suffered injuries because the aircraft was made of wood and

:24:28. > :24:31.they often broke upon landing. There are memories Edna says she will

:24:32. > :24:34.never be able to share, but this is one experience she is willing to

:24:35. > :24:39.tell the world about. How many people have been in a Horsa glider?

:24:40. > :24:44.This was the best. The Horsa was the best.

:24:45. > :26:25.Edna Miller reminiscing, 91 years old.
