:00:00. > :00:27.stand firm, dismissing talk of a leadership

:00:28. > :00:33.not be able to provide free hot meals come September. How btsiness

:00:34. > :00:40.is booming for the self`employed despite the risks. Can I do that on

:00:41. > :00:54.my own? I think people should go for it. And as Pochettino departs, who

:00:55. > :00:55.is next for team`mac? We fedl we can have a short list presented

:00:56. > :01:29.quickly. But first tonight, a major police

:01:30. > :01:31.investigation is underway in Dorset following the disappearance

:01:32. > :01:33.of a 44`year`old nurse. Rui Lee hasn't been seen

:01:34. > :01:36.since she left work at A man's been arrested on

:01:37. > :01:39.suspicion of murder. Roger Finn is in Poole

:01:40. > :01:46.for us tonight. She is 44 years old and comds from

:01:47. > :01:50.China. She has worked at thd hospital for five years. Shd was

:01:51. > :01:51.reported missing yesterday `nd today the police said that she max have

:01:52. > :01:56.been murdered. There are various things th`t I

:01:57. > :02:00.can't go into at the moment for operational reasons that give

:02:01. > :02:03.us cause for concern. It may be she is safe and wdll

:02:04. > :02:07.and doesn't want to be found at the moment, but there is

:02:08. > :02:10.an indication that that is not the case and that is why we are

:02:11. > :02:14.treating it as a murder enqtiry What are you asking

:02:15. > :02:19.the public to do? Anyone who knows her and can tell us

:02:20. > :02:23.about her and give us a background on what she does and who is she

:02:24. > :02:26.associates with is really ilportant. What more can you tell us

:02:27. > :02:39.about the man who's been arrested? He has been arrested on suspicion of

:02:40. > :02:46.murder. Forensics teams are examining locations in Boscombe A

:02:47. > :02:50.hospital spokeswoman said they are very concerned about her whdreabouts

:02:51. > :03:03.and hope she will be found safe and well.

:03:08. > :03:09.board a cruise ship. The Independence of the Seas left

:03:10. > :03:12.Southampton on Sunday. Cruise company Royal Caribbean has

:03:13. > :03:15.confirmed the six`year`old was found in the pool on Tuesday and taken by

:03:16. > :03:17.helicopter for medical attention in Brest, France.

:03:18. > :03:21.It was a Government pledge by Nick Clegg meant to give all under

:03:22. > :03:23.seven`year`olds a free school meal from September

:03:24. > :03:27.But an investigation by BBC South has found that hundreds

:03:28. > :03:30.of primary schools across the region are still facing ?significant

:03:31. > :03:33.challenges? in doing so and some are not on track to deliver on time

:03:34. > :03:36.One head teacher has critichsed the policy saying it's been ?too

:03:37. > :03:44.There will soon be more mouths to feed at St James's First School

:03:45. > :03:47.From September, reception, year one and year two pupils become

:03:48. > :03:53.The head teacher is racing to make it happen on time.

:03:54. > :03:57.We have a threefold increasd in the amount of children having hot meals.

:03:58. > :04:01.We think we have the space in the kitchen but we can't be

:04:02. > :04:07.It is a huge thing to bring in so quickly and that is the real worry.

:04:08. > :04:09.He is also concerned that ftnding from

:04:10. > :04:14.We don't seem to have got the financial backing

:04:15. > :04:18.behind it to make sure all the right things are in place, and th`t's

:04:19. > :04:22.But some schools only much worse position.

:04:23. > :04:24.Earlier this year, the BBC revealed that thousands of schools

:04:25. > :04:27.require kitchen improvements to be able to supply the extra me`ls.

:04:28. > :04:31.Now the BBC has submitted Freedom of Information requests to local

:04:32. > :04:35.authorities to find out what contact they have had with the Government

:04:36. > :04:39.We were shown documents about how many schools are ready

:04:40. > :04:45.Hundreds of schools are fachng significant challenges if they are

:04:46. > :04:52.But some schools are not on track at all, including one in five

:04:53. > :04:57.in both Wiltshire and Bourndmouth, and one in seven in West Berkshire.

:04:58. > :05:01.Bournemouth Borough Council told us all the skills can provide

:05:02. > :05:07.That is not good enough for the Head Teachers? Union.

:05:08. > :05:12.I think they should be hot leal provision for all our children.

:05:13. > :05:15.Some schools might struggle because this has been pushed through by

:05:16. > :05:21.Schools need to be prepared for it so they can provide

:05:22. > :05:25.So is Nick Clegg's promise of free hot meals for all infants

:05:26. > :05:31.The Government would not give us an interview about the results of

:05:32. > :05:57.For schools like St James's, which admits it faces significant

:05:58. > :06:00.challenges, it is not just about money when they

:06:01. > :06:09.will deliver, but the pace `nd difficulty of making the ch`nge

:06:10. > :06:11.So how much trouble is this policy in?

:06:12. > :06:18.Most schools in the South whll provide free school meals

:06:19. > :06:21.And there's strong support for the idea.

:06:22. > :06:24.But still some of our Local Authorities do have schools

:06:25. > :06:31.And for many that are, coping with the increase in demand is dhfficult.

:06:32. > :06:34.A large number are in the category of facing

:06:35. > :06:39.?significant challenges?, including 66% of schools in Hampshire,

:06:40. > :06:44.Also, the head teachers? unhon told us it's worried the Governmdnt's

:06:45. > :06:46.funding, about ?2.30 per me`l, won't be enough.

:06:47. > :06:50.Despite this, the Government says it'll bd fine?

:06:51. > :06:52.Yes, the Government insists its policy

:06:53. > :06:56.will work and will be on tile, and their guidance is still for it to be

:06:57. > :07:00.a hot meal, which some schools have already told us won't be possible.

:07:01. > :07:10.And we've had lots of comments on our Facebook page.

:07:11. > :07:20.Nick writes that he has a ltnchtime supervisor and sees how much hassle

:07:21. > :07:24.this costs. Gary says the school he works at will be ready but the issue

:07:25. > :07:30.will be the overstretched btdget. A pilot has appeared in court

:07:31. > :07:33.charged with the manslaughtdr of a former Royal Marine who died

:07:34. > :07:36.in a biplane crash in Dorset. Orlando Rogers died when thd

:07:37. > :07:39.Tiger Moth crashed at Witch`mpton Scott Hoyle, from Broadstond,

:07:40. > :07:42.was at the controls. He appeared at Bournemouth

:07:43. > :07:44.Magistrates Court this mornhng and was granted bail to appdar at

:07:45. > :07:52.Winchester Crown Court on Friday. The family of

:07:53. > :07:55.a 15`year`old air cadet frol Reading who died in a mid`air collision have

:07:56. > :07:58.secured an undisclosed settlement Flight Lieutentant Mike Bled and

:07:59. > :08:02.cadet Nicholas Rice died in June 2009 when their training aircraft

:08:03. > :08:05.hit a glider near Abingdon. The pilot

:08:06. > :08:07.of the glider parachuted to safety. In 2012, an inquest jury returned

:08:08. > :08:35.a verdict of accidental death. A 23 year`old woman wept in court

:08:36. > :08:39.today recalling the moment police told her the lollipop man she had

:08:40. > :08:42.hit with her car had died. Lauren Paul is charged with causing death

:08:43. > :08:45.by careless driving. Raymond Elsmore, who was 82, was knocked

:08:46. > :08:48.down on the school crossing in Waterlooville. Caroline Richardson

:08:49. > :08:50.reports from Southampton Crown Court.

:08:51. > :08:52.At 3:05pm on the fifth of Ddcember, the sun was setting on a brhght

:08:53. > :08:56.clear sunny day. Lauren Paul was driving back to work at South Downs

:08:57. > :08:59.College. As she turned onto Tempest Avenue, the sun was in her dyes She

:09:00. > :09:03.said ?I couldn't look directly into the sun. It was blinding. It was

:09:04. > :09:07.very hard to see?. Ray Elsmore had just started his shift on the

:09:08. > :09:10.crossing patrol. He was standing in the road with his lollipop wearing a

:09:11. > :09:14.high visibility coat. The fhrst moment Miss Paul was aware of him

:09:15. > :09:17.was when he hit her windscrden. She was arrested by police and then

:09:18. > :09:20.rearrested later that evening after an officer told her that Mr Elsmore

:09:21. > :09:24.had died. Asked how she reacted to that, she started to cry in the

:09:25. > :09:28.witness box and said ?I don't think I've fully recovered from it now?.

:09:29. > :09:31.This morning, the jury heard from the collision investigator who said

:09:32. > :09:34.the effectiveness of Mr Elslore s high visibility coat would have been

:09:35. > :09:38.reduced by the position of the sun behind him making it very dhfficult

:09:39. > :09:41.to pick him out. But he adddd this does not account for why thd driver

:09:42. > :09:45.did not see him and she failed to adjust her driving to percehve or

:09:46. > :09:49.react in time to the presence of the school crossing patrol officer. The

:09:50. > :09:59.case continues. Still to come

:10:00. > :10:01.in this evening's South Tod`y: Running in the family and cxcling

:10:02. > :10:07.too ` we meet the Blounts. Business is booming

:10:08. > :10:17.for the self`employed across the region despite the risks

:10:18. > :10:21.in setting up on your own. That's according to

:10:22. > :10:23.a report out today by an independent think tank, which suggests that

:10:24. > :10:26.a remarkably high proportion of new jobs created since 2000 have

:10:27. > :10:30.gone to the self`employed. In the South East,

:10:31. > :10:33.which includes Berkshire, Hampshire and the Isle of Whght

:10:34. > :10:36.Sussex and Surrey, self employment accounted for 72% of the new jobs

:10:37. > :10:42.created between 2000 and 2003. In the South West,

:10:43. > :10:46.which covers Dorset and Wiltshire, self`employment accounted

:10:47. > :10:49.for 62% of new jobs in that time. Here's our business

:10:50. > :11:03.correspondent Alastair Fee. From senior sales manager to baking

:11:04. > :11:11.entrepreneur. This business began four years ago. It started off as a

:11:12. > :11:16.hobby and then went full`tile. It was difficult. It still is

:11:17. > :11:25.difficult. But we have been very lucky. To begin with, I missed the

:11:26. > :11:31.day to day contact, but I don't miss the politics that comes with working

:11:32. > :11:36.any big business. The bakerx as among the rising number of

:11:37. > :11:40.businesses set up by people who want to work for themselves. Resdarch

:11:41. > :11:47.says the trend is creating lore jobs than established employers. The

:11:48. > :11:52.growth is about the recession but also about structural shifts in our

:11:53. > :11:58.economy and society. For ex`mple, we are seeing shift in mindset and

:11:59. > :12:05.values. Autonomy, freedom, self`expression are what people

:12:06. > :12:11.value at work. The freedom of being your own boss comes at a prhce. The

:12:12. > :12:20.average self`employed worker earns ?74 per week less than a full`time

:12:21. > :12:28.employee, well they are happier others say it is not that shmple.

:12:29. > :12:38.The report says it provides little insight into the market. Thdre are

:12:39. > :12:44.lots of types of self`emploxed. In Basingstoke, evidence that hf you

:12:45. > :12:49.get it right, the self`employed are making money and creating jobs. This

:12:50. > :12:57.industrial estate sales bar code scanners. Business has grown by 40%

:12:58. > :13:00.over three years. I could h`ve stayed where I was but it got to the

:13:01. > :13:08.point where I wanted to forl this company. I had a vision that I had

:13:09. > :13:14.to follow and you would work. It has come to fruition. Some of the

:13:15. > :13:19.self`employed is that as a hobby but evidence suggests more people are

:13:20. > :13:23.getting a taste for it and going full`time. If it continues, there

:13:24. > :13:30.could be more working for themselves than in the public sector.

:13:31. > :13:33.A new initiative to help disabled people to find employment w`s

:13:34. > :13:36.It's a partnership between two disabled charithes,

:13:37. > :13:39.the Enham Trust, based at Enham Alamein near Andover, and Rdmploy.

:13:40. > :13:41.Both organisations have historically employed disabled people thdmselves.

:13:42. > :13:45.This scheme aims to find people work with mainstream employdrs.

:13:46. > :13:54.Joe Campbell went along to find out more.

:13:55. > :14:01.For four years, Matthew wandered the streets looking for a job. No one

:14:02. > :14:07.would hire me. I wanted to do stuff with my life. His problem w`s that a

:14:08. > :14:12.learning difficulty meant she left school with no qualifications. Now,

:14:13. > :14:20.after getting help, he has found employment. It was everything I

:14:21. > :14:32.wanted any job. It was technology, gaming, tablets, televisions. It is

:14:33. > :14:36.the best of both worlds. Today saw the launch of a partnership aimed at

:14:37. > :14:42.helping more people like Matthew. The trust, set up to help soldiers

:14:43. > :14:52.returning from the war, set up a factory to provide work for those

:14:53. > :14:55.with disabilities. Remploy has controversially turned its back on

:14:56. > :15:03.that model, keen to make money go further. A service like this has the

:15:04. > :15:11.possibility to cater for all areas of disability. Without lookhng at

:15:12. > :15:17.individual needs, you can't answer the question. I can't be certain of

:15:18. > :15:23.cater to all needs. Opening up your plugs a gap in the Remploy network.

:15:24. > :15:26.In the past, they have tried to find employment for those with

:15:27. > :15:35.disabilities in the Midlands and the North. The trust, longest ydar, has

:15:36. > :15:39.struggled with major employdrs, even those on the doorstep, instdad

:15:40. > :15:45.dealing more with national organisations. We can spend a lot of

:15:46. > :15:52.time in finding the right pdrson and were hugely successful and forming a

:15:53. > :15:57.partnership when we do. On the whole, companies and organisations

:15:58. > :16:02.are very receptive. Local elployers were here today. The hope is that,

:16:03. > :16:03.by partnering with the regional employer, people like Matthdw will

:16:04. > :16:08.get the benefit. A meeting?s being held in Thdworth

:16:09. > :16:10.tonight to give communities an opportunity to hear

:16:11. > :16:12.the latest proposals on relocating army facilitids to

:16:13. > :16:22.the Salisbury Plain area. `` families. Last year,

:16:23. > :16:24.the Ministry of Defence announced that an additional 4000 milhtary

:16:25. > :16:36.personnel and their families would There is one big topic of

:16:37. > :16:44.conversation in sport. Who hs going to take over from Pochettino? Chris

:16:45. > :16:50.Temple is here tonight. Everyone has a view on this. Most people get us

:16:51. > :16:52.the views on who they do not want to replace Pochettino, but I al not

:16:53. > :17:25.sure anyone has a particular idea. big guessing game Let's havd a look

:17:26. > :17:28.at some of the bookies' favourites. He had some success in the

:17:29. > :17:33.Champions League with Swiss side Basle, led them to two wins over

:17:34. > :17:36.Chelsea in the competition. Like Saints owner

:17:37. > :17:38.Katharina Liebherr, is Swiss. Then there's Ronald Koeman,

:17:39. > :17:40.managed in Holland, Portugal He recently left Dutch

:17:41. > :17:43.club Feyenoord. Saints fans will have bad mdmories

:17:44. > :17:46.of their last Dutch managers ` Jan Poortvliet and Mark Wotte

:17:47. > :17:49.weren't exactly successful. Michael Laudrup was sacked

:17:50. > :17:51.by Swansea in February, but led them to a League Cup win,

:17:52. > :17:54.their first major trophy. Also touted heavily for the Celtic

:17:55. > :17:56.job. Then there's David Moyes, possibly

:17:57. > :17:58.tarnished by his unsuccessftl Would he want to return

:17:59. > :18:04.to management so quickly? And what about Eddie Howe,

:18:05. > :18:06.Bournemouth's manager who ldd them to a tenth place finish in their

:18:07. > :18:10.first season in the Championship. He employs an attractive stxle that

:18:11. > :18:13.would fit the Saints? philosophy. No top level experience,

:18:14. > :18:15.would be massive gamble. The main concerns among Saints fans

:18:16. > :18:18.centre on not only who the new manager will be, but how many

:18:19. > :18:22.of their top players are likely to Speaking for the first time

:18:23. > :18:24.since Pochettino's departurd, seems chairman Ralph Krueger faced

:18:25. > :18:27.the media today and had somd He was firm in response to criticism

:18:28. > :18:31.of the club's silence We did everything we

:18:32. > :18:35.believe possible. Whatever decision came on hhs part,

:18:36. > :18:37.it came There was a strong contract

:18:38. > :18:41.on the table. The clubs' fans are split on their

:18:42. > :18:47.views on who should fill his shoes. I think we should have tightened

:18:48. > :18:50.down and we had the chance. I don't know what we're going to get

:18:51. > :18:54.and you're going to find a lot of fans wondering if they whll get

:18:55. > :18:57.their season ticket or not. Hopefully the board can man up

:18:58. > :19:20.and fight these advances, We feel that we can move because of

:19:21. > :19:23.the preparation it has been done by our scouts and recruiters.

:19:24. > :19:26.We feel we can move quickly to the next step

:19:27. > :19:30.The need for a quick appointment is clear.

:19:31. > :19:32.The busy summer transfers look set to materialise.

:19:33. > :19:35.We have the highest quality managers in Europe knocking on our door.

:19:36. > :19:39.We have the highest quality available players and

:19:40. > :19:47.Which players stay might affect who they can appoint as manager and it

:19:48. > :19:50.is those decisions that Saints must use to reaffirm their ambithon.

:19:51. > :19:59.For those outside the club, who will succeed Mauricio Pochettino, is one

:20:00. > :20:20.Summer is the season for ins and outs of course, and Reading striker

:20:21. > :20:23.Adam Le Fondre is poised to join Championship rivals Cardiff City.

:20:24. > :20:27.The 27`year`old, who scored 15 goals for the Royals last season, is close

:20:28. > :20:31.That could end Cardiff's interest in Bournemouth's top scorer

:20:32. > :20:33.Lewis Grabban, for whom they had a bid accdpted.

:20:34. > :20:36.Sussex all`rounder Chris Jordan played a starring role for Dngland

:20:37. > :20:38.today as they thrashed Sri Lanka at Old Trafford.

:20:39. > :20:42.He could well be bowling hilself into contention for the Test team.

:20:43. > :20:44.Jordan took career`best international figures of 5 for 9,

:20:45. > :20:46.as Sri Lanka were shot out for just 67.

:20:47. > :20:49.They lost their last six wickets for just nine runs.

:20:50. > :20:52.67 was the second lowest evdr total in an ODI against England

:20:53. > :20:56.England knocked off the runs in just 12 overs, to take a 2`1 lead

:20:57. > :21:02.Now, the saying goes a family that plays together stays

:21:03. > :21:05.together, but very few will train together for a biathlon!

:21:06. > :21:08.But, that's exactly what thd Blount family from Swanmore in Hampshire

:21:09. > :21:12.11`year`old Ciara Blount has been selected for Team GB's Under 13s

:21:13. > :21:14.squad and will compete in the European Championships

:21:15. > :21:22.Lewis Coombes went along to a family training session.

:21:23. > :21:25.Meet the Blounts, Hampshire's version of the Incredibles.

:21:26. > :21:27.A family with a passion for biathlons,

:21:28. > :21:31.triathlons and pentathlons, anything really, as long

:21:32. > :21:38.as it involves running, swilming and today's activity, cycling.

:21:39. > :21:41.11`year`old Ciara is about to fly off to Portugal to

:21:42. > :21:45.compete in the Under`13s European Biathle Championships.

:21:46. > :21:51.She's a year younger than most of her competitors.

:21:52. > :22:01.It all started from the racd at school. The top for children that

:22:02. > :22:15.qualified would go through to gigabits. I came fourth. I couldn't

:22:16. > :22:24.stop smiling. I can see my xounger sister is in Team GB!

:22:25. > :22:27.Mum and Dad themselves are keen triathletes, but what reallx get's

:22:28. > :22:29.their heart racing is watchhng their children compete.

:22:30. > :22:35.It's pretty clear that speed runs in the family.

:22:36. > :22:51.I think I cried watching. They cheered very loudly, that w`s

:22:52. > :22:53.amazing. It was a brilliant result. My mum and dad are very sporty and

:22:54. > :22:57.my sister led me to it. Big sister Emily has had success
