:00:00. > :00:12.Now it's time for the news where

:00:13. > :00:14.Good evening, I'm David All`rd with the news in the South.

:00:15. > :00:17.A jury has retired to consider its verdict in the case

:00:18. > :00:20.of a man accused of causing an ambulance to crash, in which

:00:21. > :00:25.Richard Husband has denied two counts of causing death

:00:26. > :00:27.by careless driving following the incident near Brockenhurst

:00:28. > :00:32.Our reporter Steve Humphrey listened to the closing speeches

:00:33. > :01:22.had overtaken the Skoda and at that moment his vehicle came into contact

:01:23. > :01:25.with the ambulance, which wdnt off the road and hit a tree. Thd court

:01:26. > :02:33.was told Mr Police say they don't believe

:02:34. > :02:35.the batch of It's been a difficult journdy home

:02:36. > :02:39.tonight for thousands of colmuters The station was shut for 45 minutes

:02:40. > :02:44.at the height of the rush hour, It's had a huge knock`on effect

:02:45. > :02:49.with many South West Trains services The trespasser was detained

:02:50. > :02:55.under the Mental Health Act. The Defence Secretary has pledged to

:02:56. > :02:59."move heaven and earth" to keep both of the Royal Navy's new aircraft

:03:00. > :03:01.carriers. The Queen is due to name

:03:02. > :03:04.the first one next week. Work's under way on the second,

:03:05. > :03:07.but rising costs have led to suggestions it may have to be sold

:03:08. > :03:11.or mothballed. Visiting a heritage boat project in

:03:12. > :03:14.Portsmouth today, Phillip H`mmond said keeping the ships WOULD impact

:03:15. > :03:18.on the rest of the Navy's btdget. But he said it made sense

:03:19. > :03:31.after costing more than ?6 billion. We should bend heaven and e`rth to

:03:32. > :03:36.try to make sure we can afford to crew them and operate them so that

:03:37. > :03:41.by having two aircraft carrhers in service we are always able to have

:03:42. > :03:44.one available, and I think that is a sensible way to go forward but we

:03:45. > :03:52.will have to look how we manage the Navy's budget to make that possible.

:03:53. > :03:54.It's rare for a World War II veteran to have a

:03:55. > :03:58.But Wally Harris was a rare kind of man.

:03:59. > :04:00.His job with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers should

:04:01. > :04:02.never have placed him on the front line.

:04:03. > :04:05.But when he came across a Gdrman unit preparing to wreak havoc

:04:06. > :04:08.on the Allied advance shortly after D`Day he went on to save cotntless

:04:09. > :04:11.lives, armed only with a machine gun grabbed from a wrecked tank

:04:12. > :04:23.Wally Harris had been plannhng a trip to the DJ `` D`Day beaches when

:04:24. > :04:28.he died. Instead today he w`s making his final journey in the colpany of

:04:29. > :04:35.fellow veterans. He was verx exceptional, I was a gunner, he was

:04:36. > :04:40.a draughtsman. His main job in the early days was to repair thd

:04:41. > :04:44.motorbikes. His job as a mechanic was not short on danger but his role

:04:45. > :04:49.was never meant to be a front line one. Shortly after he landed on the

:04:50. > :04:54.Normandy beaches Wally Harrhs grabbed a machine gun. It is a good

:04:55. > :05:03.job he did because a few molents later he ran into a German `nti`tank

:05:04. > :05:12.crew. His actions putting the gun out of commission saved countless

:05:13. > :05:20.lives. I found a regimental history and there is a Sergeant Harris under

:05:21. > :05:29.fire, courageous act, got awarded the military medal. Today hhs

:05:30. > :05:36.passing was marked by the mhlitary as befits a true hero. We looked at

:05:37. > :05:42.it in the light of, this is not a sad occasion, it is a Thanksgiving

:05:43. > :05:49.almost, the right thing to do to send Wally off on the right path.

:05:50. > :05:52.A good day for the bank bal`nce a sad day for the fans.

:05:53. > :05:54.That's been the reaction after Southampton Football Club sold

:05:55. > :05:58.18`year`old Luke Shaw compldted a move to Manchester United

:05:59. > :06:04.It's a world record transfer fee for a teenager.

:06:05. > :06:06.And Liverpool are close to signing Adam Lallana from Southampton

:06:07. > :06:11.Lallana joined Saints as a youth player from Bournemouth.

:06:12. > :06:13.The Cherries will get ?6 million from the deal,

:06:14. > :06:18.In tonight's cricket, Surrey beat Hampshire by eight

:06:19. > :06:27.Sussex beat Middlesex by six wickets.

:07:01. > :07:05.along the coast. Highs of 12 to 14 degrees so it is a misty, mtrky

:07:06. > :07:09.start for some first thing but generally we will see some

:07:10. > :07:13.brightness through the mornhng, one or two sunny spells and starting to

:07:14. > :07:21.see those showers bubbling tp. The greens and yellows on the m`p showed

:07:22. > :07:26.the worst of the downpours, up to 14 millimetres localised in sole areas.

:07:27. > :07:30.If you see some sunny breaks, highs of 18 or 19 degrees. A yellow

:07:31. > :07:32.weather warning for those torrential downpours.

:07:33. > :07:36.move towards Sunday. The top temperature again 20. Fewer showers.

:07:37. > :07:39.Most out towards the east. That's the way it is looking.

:07:40. > :07:48.Good evening. For some the weather put on a show today - lightning and

:07:49. > :07:53.hail. For others more of a no-show. Showers at Wimbledon stayed away.

:07:54. > :07:58.They were further west. Torrential downpours with the lightning flashes

:07:59. > :08:04.over East Anglia. Local flooding in for folk. Showers through
