:00:00. > :00:00.BBC Hello I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to

:00:00. > :00:00.South Today. In tonight's programme: Guilty of murder ` the man who

:00:07. > :00:10.buried his pregnant girlfridnd The multi`million pound prolise

:00:11. > :00:18.of investment if plans for Hatching a new plan to help

:00:19. > :00:25.the great bustard population. And what was hidden in this kilt

:00:26. > :00:41.and the search for the woman she had the gumption to put a note

:00:42. > :00:50.into the kilt looking for a husband. We were stunned!

:00:51. > :00:52.The former boyfriend of teenager Jayden Parkinson has

:00:53. > :00:55.22`year`old Ben Blakeley from Reading buried Jayden's remains

:00:56. > :00:59.A jury has returned a verdict with an 11 to one majority.

:01:00. > :01:02.Victoria Cook has been following the case at Oxford Crown Court `nd sent

:01:03. > :01:28.There were emotional scenes in court as the verdict was read out. Jayden

:01:29. > :01:31.Parkinson'sfamily left in tdars Blakeley didn't show that mtch

:01:32. > :01:38.emotion but he left the dock ready quickly. The Jerry `` Jerry took 20

:01:39. > :01:46.hours to reach their decision. `` the jury. Police said they think

:01:47. > :01:49.they could `` it could be the first case of its kind where a murderer

:01:50. > :01:57.has hidden a body in an existing grave. Jayden Parkinson'slife was

:01:58. > :02:02.taken from her last year and today someone was found guilty of her

:02:03. > :02:09.murder. I welcome the verdict that Ben Blakeley is guilty of mtrder.

:02:10. > :02:14.And so do the family. This hs the start of some closure for them. This

:02:15. > :02:17.verdict has come as a relief to the family and friends who have been

:02:18. > :02:23.coming here to Oxford Crown Court everyday. One of Jayden'sfrhends

:02:24. > :02:29.told us she hoped there would be justice for her friend. Justice for

:02:30. > :02:34.Jayden and other people that he has tortured and hurt over the xears. He

:02:35. > :02:40.gets what he deserves. In the back of my mind I always thought he could

:02:41. > :02:46.be capable of that sort of thing. To someone like Jayden, she was lovely,

:02:47. > :02:59.no man should ever hit a wolan but for her, she didn't deserve that at

:03:00. > :03:03.all. The jury will return to consider its sentenced tomorrow

:03:04. > :03:09.Meanwhile, we can tell the story of then Blakeley and Jayden Parkinson

:03:10. > :03:15.and how their friendship and then relationship stretched back many

:03:16. > :03:19.years. They had known each other for years

:03:20. > :03:25.but in the summer of 2012 J`yden Parkinson started dating Ben

:03:26. > :03:33.Blakeley. Problems at home leant she had to move out. They were partners

:03:34. > :03:36.in crime. They stole to eat and buy drugs and to solve their problems

:03:37. > :03:41.they began trying for a babx hoping that would mean they would get a

:03:42. > :03:47.council flat. Over the course of the next year and with no baby `ppearing

:03:48. > :03:51.and money tight, Jayden movdd into this hostel here in Oxford `nd it

:03:52. > :03:57.was at this point when they mark or `` when they were more often apart

:03:58. > :04:02.when his jealous nature got worse. He ordered her to stay here alone,

:04:03. > :04:05.telling her he `` she mustn't even leave to go to the bathroom. Two

:04:06. > :04:11.weeks later she ended their relationship. Ben Blakeley was

:04:12. > :04:16.angry. So angry he threatendd to put naked pictures of her on Facebook.

:04:17. > :04:20.He said he hoped she would commit suicide. At the beginning of

:04:21. > :04:30.December staff at the hospital `` hostel take a pregnancy test `` they

:04:31. > :04:34.helped her take it. The father had to be Ben Blakeley. When Jaxden

:04:35. > :04:39.called him to break the news he accused her of cheating and then

:04:40. > :04:44.threatened to push her off ` bridge. Despite that threat and not even 24

:04:45. > :04:48.hours later, Jayden left thd hostel alone to meet Ben Blakeley `nd to

:04:49. > :04:53.discuss the pregnancy. Thesd are the last known images of Jayden and life

:04:54. > :04:59.will stop they show their journey from Oxford train station to Didcot.

:05:00. > :05:06.They walked from there to an area of fields. They reached this footbridge

:05:07. > :05:12.when then Blakeley asked Jaxden if she had been cheating on hil. He

:05:13. > :05:16.then describes grabbing her around the throat with both hands before

:05:17. > :05:22.she then fell from here into the mud below. He said she wasn't rdading

:05:23. > :05:26.but he tried to revive her. He then describes sitting here for some time

:05:27. > :05:31.watching stars go by before eventually covering her bodx with a

:05:32. > :05:36.branch. He then left and went back to his home in Redding. In the days

:05:37. > :05:40.that followed and whilst falily and friends were waiting for news, Ben

:05:41. > :05:48.Blakeley returned to move hdr body. He put her in an M T suitcase and

:05:49. > :05:55.called for a taxi. `` and elpty suitcase. That was carried to all

:05:56. > :06:00.Saints Church in Didcot and he then dug his great uncle 's gravd. The

:06:01. > :06:07.grave was then made to look and disturbed. By the 12th of Ddcember

:06:08. > :06:10.there was still no sign of Jayden. This is a live missing persons

:06:11. > :06:18.enquiry. We do not know where she lives `` is. Nine days after she

:06:19. > :06:23.disappeared, police declared a major crime investigation with ovdr a

:06:24. > :06:28.hundred officers. Two days later, CCTV footage route that then

:06:29. > :06:31.Blakeley lied about his own whereabouts on the night shd went

:06:32. > :06:37.missing and they were now convinced she was dead. Then Blakeley was

:06:38. > :06:40.charged with her murder. That report follows today's

:06:41. > :06:44.conviction of Ben Blakeley. Managers at Gatwick Airport have

:06:45. > :06:47.announced plans to invest more than ?250 million in local jobs,

:06:48. > :06:49.housing and noise compensathon if they're given permission to build

:06:50. > :06:51.a second runway. It's the latest initiative hn

:06:52. > :06:54.their ongoing campaign to bd allowed The Government has appointed

:06:55. > :06:57.an aviation commission to look into the future of UK runwax

:06:58. > :07:17.capacity, as Yvette Austin reports. Gatwick airport from the skx. The

:07:18. > :07:23.busiest single runway airport in the world and the campaign for ` second

:07:24. > :07:29.runway is hotting up. ?256 lillion pledged to help ease local community

:07:30. > :07:33.concerns. A second runway would stretch out before me running

:07:34. > :07:38.parallel with the existing one and nearly a mile to the south, mainly

:07:39. > :07:45.crossing Greenland. 160 homds would have to be compulsorily purchased

:07:46. > :07:49.and landscape around would be affected. So there has been

:07:50. > :07:53.consultation with locals and the airport wants to be seen to be

:07:54. > :07:57.listening to concerns. We h`ve made a feud changes to reflect what

:07:58. > :08:01.people have said and most particularly the have added to the

:08:02. > :08:04.pledges we have already madd to make it possible for locals to sde they

:08:05. > :08:13.will share in the benefits of a new runway. Among the pledges is a 46

:08:14. > :08:18.million infrastructure plan. Owners of homes that need to be delolished

:08:19. > :08:22.will receive 25% above the going rate and a ?50 million noisd

:08:23. > :08:29.compensation fund but campahgners say this is not enough. It hs

:08:30. > :08:32.nothing in the scale of things. They will make substantially mord profits

:08:33. > :08:36.and the impact of those profits will be felt by the shareholders and

:08:37. > :08:41.their bonuses and not by thd local community and it is the loc`l

:08:42. > :08:47.community that will suffer. There are mixed views as to where a new

:08:48. > :08:52.runway should go. It will create jobs around Crawley. It can be a

:08:53. > :08:58.positive thing. Stansted because it is 20 minutes from where I live I

:08:59. > :09:03.know the Thames estuary. It is wide open space. It is not exactly pretty

:09:04. > :09:08.said that would be quite a good place to build an airport ftll top

:09:09. > :09:10.Gatwick says if it gets the go`ahead a second roadway could be btilt by

:09:11. > :09:22.2025. `` a second runway. A fire has caused damage to a large

:09:23. > :09:27.area of grassland near Stondhenge. The fire destroyed crops but no one

:09:28. > :09:32.was hurt and no buildings wdre affected. Fire services warn more

:09:33. > :09:35.crop fires may break out following the recent hot weather.

:09:36. > :09:39.A man has been killed on thd A3 in Dorset after the motor home he

:09:40. > :09:43.The incident happened just `fter ten o'clock this morning between

:09:44. > :09:45.Lake Gates roundabout and the Candys Lane junction near Whmborne.

:09:46. > :09:47.The man in his 60s died at the scene.

:09:48. > :09:50.His wife was airlifted to Southampton hospital and thd lorry

:09:51. > :09:52.driver was taken to Poole hospital, both with serious injuries.

:09:53. > :10:07.Still to come: The story of the kilt and a woman looking for lovd.

:10:08. > :10:11.We will delve into the mystdry of the First World War Scottish kilt

:10:12. > :10:16.that was found with a secret message hidden inside.

:10:17. > :10:19.Do you get annoyed by the person next to you on the

:10:20. > :10:22.Train companies have quiet carriages where use

:10:23. > :10:25.But now Cross Country Trains is removing them.

:10:26. > :10:28.It thinks our habits are ch`nging ` they are no longer wanted.

:10:29. > :10:29.We're texting and emailing instead of talking

:10:30. > :10:41.Our transport correspondent, Paul Clifton, reports.

:10:42. > :10:53.When you travel on a train how much does this bother you? I'm jtst

:10:54. > :10:57.travelling along... I find ht embarrassing to listen to other

:10:58. > :11:01.people 's conversation becatse you do so whether you intend to not

:11:02. > :11:08.Then your phone rings and you do the same! We have all been irritated by

:11:09. > :11:12.the person next to us inventing excuses for being late home

:11:13. > :11:19.describing intimate details of an employee they have just sacked. The

:11:20. > :11:23.train manager has certainly noticed a change. Just over the last two

:11:24. > :11:28.years we have seen an incre`se in people text link and using Wi`Fi.

:11:29. > :11:37.Now you find people don't use phones as much. In first class we saw every

:11:38. > :11:41.passenger using a tablet or laptop. There are still times when xou have

:11:42. > :11:50.two talk to people because ht is quicker than getting into e`mail

:11:51. > :11:58.ping`pong. I text my man to tell her where I am. I don't really call

:11:59. > :12:01.anyone. I just don't really call because there are other people

:12:02. > :12:07.around and they don't want to listen. CrossCountry Trains is the

:12:08. > :12:10.first operator to remove quhet carriages. They say they ard no

:12:11. > :12:19.longer needed, like carriagds for smokers. It is an anachronism in the

:12:20. > :12:25.modern age full is not Sony Walkman 's gave out more noise than they

:12:26. > :12:29.came `` gave you. Technologx has moved on and the majority of our

:12:30. > :12:35.customers use media which is quieter. First great Western and

:12:36. > :12:40.Southwest trains have quiet carriages to but they have no plans

:12:41. > :12:44.to follow CrossCountry Trains. Our habits at changing though. We think

:12:45. > :12:48.it is important to stay in contact all the time so we are more willing

:12:49. > :12:53.to put up with more annoying conversations next to us. Btt we

:12:54. > :12:57.also e`mail or text much more than talking. As more trains are fitted

:12:58. > :13:05.with Wi`Fi, that trend is lhkely to continue.

:13:06. > :13:30.You have been telling us wh`t you think.

:13:31. > :13:32.Condor Ferries has found a replacement vessel to transport

:13:33. > :13:34.freight from Portsmouth to the Channel Islands.

:13:35. > :13:37.It comes after the Commodord Clipper scraped the sea bed en routd to

:13:38. > :13:40.Guernsey last week, ruling ht out of action until the end of @ugust.

:13:41. > :13:43.The cargo ship MN Toucan has now been chartered to keep

:13:44. > :13:51.A replacement service for passengers is yet to be found.

:13:52. > :13:53.Over the years, we've followed the project to reintroduce

:13:54. > :13:58.The bird was hunted to extinction in this country in the 1800s,

:13:59. > :14:00.but a breeding plan using eggs from Russia has been successful

:14:01. > :14:04.But now, eggs from Spain, which are easier to import `nd

:14:05. > :14:06.genetically closer to the original English birds have been found.

:14:07. > :14:19.Meet Nelson and Morgana, thd only been to find out more.

:14:20. > :14:26.Meet Nelson and Morgana, thd only two great bustard birds in captivity

:14:27. > :14:30.in Britain. Once as, as phe`sants, they were hunted to extincthon in

:14:31. > :14:36.the 1840s. Here in Surrey they are part of a programme to reintroduce

:14:37. > :14:37.great bust of birds into thd wild. This egg will go into the incubator

:14:38. > :16:20.so we record the basic detahls. Children's Festival revived. The

:16:21. > :16:26.last one was a hundred years ago but it was stopped by the outbrdak of

:16:27. > :16:28.World War I. The mayor led the procession in a horse`drawn carriage

:16:29. > :16:35.as the children marched to the beat of the band.

:16:36. > :16:43.New life has been breathed hnto an old tradition. It has been 000 years

:16:44. > :16:51.since the last Children's Fdstival in Bournemouth. Bournemouth is only

:16:52. > :16:53.200 years old. Back then, schools were privately funded but they

:16:54. > :16:59.couldn't keep them running. They came running `` knocking on the

:17:00. > :17:04.council for. The council sahd they would fund them and celebrate it

:17:05. > :17:11.with a children's day. 8000 children marched through the town. It was

:17:12. > :17:17.huge. White 1904 but stopped in 1914 when the war broke out. It was

:17:18. > :17:23.gotten until today. We get to meet the Mayor and March. It happened so

:17:24. > :17:28.will only go so to honour those children is really good. Evdryone

:17:29. > :17:35.walked from Bournemouth Pier to the town square and ended up in the

:17:36. > :17:45.park. A happy day of celebr`tions and reflection. The wall and the

:17:46. > :17:52.terrible Second World War... They will never forget. To commelorate,

:17:53. > :17:58.each child was given a peacd medal from World War I to celebrate the

:17:59. > :18:04.end of the war. I am proud to be met of this wonderful town. It hs a

:18:05. > :18:09.great game for me and Bourndmouth. And ceremony and remembrancd and a

:18:10. > :18:13.little hope the Children's Festival won't be forgotten again.

:18:14. > :18:22.It was a secret message written by a woman licking for love hidddn in a

:18:23. > :18:25.Scottish kilt. It was destined for a soldier serving in the London

:18:26. > :18:29.Scottish regiment `` regiment but it was never worn and the note was

:18:30. > :18:37.found by an academic at Southampton University.

:18:38. > :18:41.For a kilt made almost 100 xears ago it is in remarkable good condition.

:18:42. > :18:46.It has been handed down through generations of one family. But the

:18:47. > :18:54.secret note was only discovdred when temporary stitching used to hold the

:18:55. > :18:57.plates together was undone. I was amazed, especially because ht had

:18:58. > :19:01.been written by somebody who was probably just an ordinary

:19:02. > :19:07.seamstress. When we read it we were completely stunned that she had the

:19:08. > :19:15.gumption to put a note into a kilt really looking for a husband. It

:19:16. > :19:19.says, I hope your kilt will fit you well and in it you will looks swell.

:19:20. > :19:27.If single, drop me a line. H wish you bags of luck and a speedy

:19:28. > :19:33.return. Underneath it is her name. I would love to know who she was. If

:19:34. > :19:38.she has any surviving familx and if she got a reply full. Hundrdds of

:19:39. > :19:43.thousands of kilt were made for Scottish regiments in the Fhrst

:19:44. > :19:47.World War. A label on Helen's kilt shows it was made for a soldier in

:19:48. > :19:52.the London Scottish regiment full. It is amazing and unique to see

:19:53. > :19:58.something that has such a wonderful tied to the wall but to be hn such

:19:59. > :20:02.good condition. The Scottish soldiers in kilts would hardly have

:20:03. > :20:05.raised an eyebrow in the Brhtish Army 100 years ago but they

:20:06. > :20:10.certainly surprised the Gerlans who christened them The Ladies From

:20:11. > :20:19.Hell. Can you help with this storx? Do get

:20:20. > :20:42.in touch. There was success in the swhmming

:20:43. > :20:53.pool for one of our competitors who won his heat to book his pl`ce

:20:54. > :20:56.in tonight's final, while England women's hockey squad ` feattring

:20:57. > :20:58.four players from our region ` appeared to bounce back

:20:59. > :21:01.from their World Cup disastdr with a confident performance in their

:21:02. > :21:03.first group match against W`les Here's a round`up of the action

:21:04. > :21:19.so far today. Another major competition, `nother

:21:20. > :21:23.final. Andrew Willis was eighth at the London Olympics and forth at the

:21:24. > :21:26.championships last year. Cotld he win the elusive medal in Gl`sgow? He

:21:27. > :21:36.will have the chance to night after winning his heat. I am happx with

:21:37. > :21:42.that. I will go back now and relaxing comeback focused. @lso

:21:43. > :21:49.readying'sAdam Barrett qualhfied for the butterfly semifinals. England's

:21:50. > :21:52.women were out to prove thex are back on form on the hockey field.

:21:53. > :21:53.They showed some of the flare this morning that has won them previous

:21:54. > :22:04.medals than. Their next match is against Malaysia

:22:05. > :22:11.on Sunday. A fantastic start to the tournament. Far from the prdttiest

:22:12. > :22:15.game of hockey but we did the job and are delighted to come away with

:22:16. > :22:21.three points. We want to win every time and we built good momentum but

:22:22. > :22:27.we had a disappointing World Cup. We want to pick ourselves back up and

:22:28. > :22:33.enjoy it. There was triathlon triumph for Team England. Btt Harris

:22:34. > :22:40.couldn't speak the mighty Bramley Barras `` brothers.

:22:41. > :22:45.Meanwhile, a Berkshire schoolgirl has won the heptathlon titld at the

:22:46. > :22:48.world junior athletics championships in Oregon in the United States.

:22:49. > :22:50.Morgan Lake, who attends Wellington College in Crowthorne,

:23:44. > :23:53.were giving up for a major sporting event and it was Alexis who is doing

:23:54. > :24:03.it again. Yes, out training hard. My horse is

:24:04. > :24:09.called Pasteurise. She has been training hard. It has

:24:10. > :24:16.been tough but really worth it. Act and about early in the mornhng. You

:25:05. > :25:12.and dry overnight tonight. Close and humid. Temperatures only dipping to

:25:13. > :25:16.around 15 Celsius. More clotd for eastern areas later on and winds

:25:17. > :25:20.from the north`east. A dry start to the day tomorrow. The bulk of the

:25:21. > :25:27.day will be dry with sunshine, perhaps hazy. High cloud in the

:25:28. > :25:34.afternoon. In the evening there is the chance of a stray shower but you

:25:35. > :25:39.would be unlucky to catch one. They could be heavy and thundery.
