:00:09. > :00:11.The centenary of the outbreak of World War One has been marked

:00:12. > :00:13.in a number of events around the South.

:00:14. > :00:15.There have been services of remembrance

:00:16. > :00:29.and a special gathering at Highclere Castle in Berkshire.

:00:30. > :00:35.In Worthing, it was a moment of silence and a tribute by the sea.

:00:36. > :00:41.Two stained`glass windows were unveiled on the pier. More than 660

:00:42. > :00:48.people from the area were killed in World War I. 20,000 killed, 40,000

:00:49. > :00:53.wounded in a single day. A number of working men, all boys, who were 15

:00:54. > :00:57.years old when they lay down their lives, commemorated on those

:00:58. > :01:05.banners. At Saint Mary's church in Ferndown,

:01:06. > :01:10.a Piper led a procession for a service of commemoration. 50 men

:01:11. > :01:13.from the Ferndown immunity gave their lives in the First World War

:01:14. > :01:23.and each of their names was read out. `` the Ferndown community.

:01:24. > :01:31.Crowds gathered in bright sunshine in Highclere Castle in an event a

:01:32. > :01:36.member conflicts past and present. It was a fly past of planes in the

:01:37. > :01:45.Great War, musical entertainment and a recreation of the famous football

:01:46. > :01:49.match between English and German soldiers in World War I. I wanted a

:01:50. > :01:53.reflection of what happened in the past for people to understand how it

:01:54. > :02:01.can help people today. And tomorrow on South Today, we'll

:02:02. > :02:03.bring you a special programme. Sally Taylor will be live

:02:04. > :02:06.from the Bovington Tank Museum in Dorset, as the start

:02:07. > :02:09.of the First World War is remembered with a series of events

:02:10. > :02:11.across the South. And we'd love to see your pictures

:02:12. > :02:13.from the commemorations, there's more details

:02:14. > :02:18.on our Facebook page. Passengers onboard a Wightlink Ferry

:02:19. > :02:21.from Lymington to Yarmouth were left stranded

:02:22. > :02:24.for 30 minutes earlier, after the forward propulsion unit

:02:25. > :02:27.failed. Ben Matthews sent South Today

:02:28. > :02:30.these pictures of the incident. Wightlink say

:02:31. > :02:32.the ferry did not hit the barge After half an hour, the ferry

:02:33. > :02:37.was able to continue its journey. It's been taken out of service

:02:38. > :02:39.for repairs, Sir John Madjeski has told

:02:40. > :02:45.South Today he is confident he's found the right investors

:02:46. > :02:49.for Reading Football club. Sir John said a Thai consortium will

:02:50. > :02:54.take a majority share in the club. The group are led

:02:55. > :02:57.by 76`year`old businesswoman It's hoped the deal

:02:58. > :03:02.will be concluded in time for manager Nigel Adkins

:03:03. > :03:07.to bring in new players. as it was

:03:08. > :03:12.before the last administration. So they want to get back to

:03:13. > :03:15.the basics of that. But they are ambitious and I'm sure

:03:16. > :03:20.before the start of this season, The Commonwealth Games

:03:21. > :03:27.has come to an end in Glasgow that's captained by

:03:28. > :03:32.Reading's Kate Walsh suffered a dramatic loss in their

:03:33. > :03:37.gold medal match against Australia. The Australians equalised

:03:38. > :03:39.in the last 20 seconds despite a heroic performance from

:03:40. > :03:48.West Sussex goalkeeper Maddie Hinch. I think this morning

:03:49. > :03:50.it's really hit home, how close we were to coming

:03:51. > :03:52.away with a gold medal. that we have come so far

:03:53. > :04:02.in such a short space of time and if someone had said we

:04:03. > :04:05.would have a silver at the end of this tournament, we would have

:04:06. > :04:08.grabbed that with two hands. The men's hockey bronze medal match

:04:09. > :04:10.also went to penalties The game finished 3`3

:04:11. > :04:15.before Reading's Simon Mantell won a penalty flick,

:04:16. > :04:20.and England took the victory. But it was heartbreak again

:04:21. > :04:22.for the South's netball players. After their final second loss

:04:23. > :04:25.against New Zealand in the semi final, the England team

:04:26. > :04:28.weren't able to lift themselves England lost against Jamaica

:04:29. > :04:35.to finish in fourth place. And Hampshire's Dani King ended

:04:36. > :04:38.a disappointing Commonwealth Games for England team`mate Lizzie

:04:39. > :04:44.Armitstead in the early stages. Armitstead went

:04:45. > :04:46.on to win the gold medal, with King more than

:04:47. > :04:54.five minutes down. Now for the weather

:04:55. > :04:56.with Holly Green. Today has brought plenty

:04:57. > :04:59.of bright weather and we have just

:05:00. > :05:03.seen one or two showers. Now, there is a risk

:05:04. > :05:06.of some showers through tonight. and that breeze

:05:07. > :05:10.will generally ease down Lows by then between 13

:05:11. > :05:15.and 16 degrees. One or two spots,

:05:16. > :05:18.perhaps a little lower. Tomorrow,

:05:19. > :05:20.quite a bright start to the day. We see plenty

:05:21. > :05:22.of sunny spells coming through. There is the risk of a few showers,

:05:23. > :05:25.a scattering here and there but for many of us, we will

:05:26. > :05:29.get away with a largely dry day. A less breezy one for today

:05:30. > :05:31.as well and temperatures there pushing

:05:32. > :05:34.into the early 20s. But we do see a bit of a change

:05:35. > :05:38.into the middle part of the week. There will be some brighter

:05:39. > :05:40.conditions at times but also an increasing risk

:05:41. > :05:42.of heavy, thundery showers. Our next news will follow the

:05:43. > :06:11.Commonwealth Games closing ceremony Good evening. Some of us have had a

:06:12. > :06:15.sunny weekend but for others it has not stopped raining for the last

:06:16. > :06:22.couple of days, you can see where on the satellite picture, big swell of

:06:23. > :06:25.cloud, dominating things. Torrential storms, if you see the coverage, you

:06:26. > :06:29.can see how much rain there has been, that has caused issues.

:06:30. > :06:33.Thunder and lightning thrown in as well. This area of storms moves

:06:34. > :06:37.north out of Glasgow but this clutch of heavy downpours pushing into the

:06:38. > :06:42.south-west of Scotland, we will have to keep an eye on that for the

:06:43. > :06:45.closing ceremony. One thing is for sure, which showers and blustery

:06:46. > :06:49.wind, it will not be anything like as fine and warm as it was the

:06:50. > :06:51.opening ceremony. Further south across the UK,
