:00:10. > :00:11.Hello, I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to South Today.

:00:12. > :00:16.Playing on their emotions ` the gang who conned money out of women

:00:17. > :00:27.I felt really upset and then really angry that somebody had chosen to do

:00:28. > :00:28.this to me. Rolling into Bognor Regis `

:00:29. > :00:31.the luxury car maker moving up Open for business ` amid warnings

:00:32. > :00:35.the new coastguard control room And could Portsmouth pull off a

:00:36. > :00:43.giant killing and beat Manchester to Three men from Portsmouth and

:00:44. > :01:03.another man from the Newbury area have been convicted of using one

:01:04. > :01:06.of the UK's biggest dating websites to trick women out of nearly

:01:07. > :01:09.a quarter of a million pounds. One victim handed over more than

:01:10. > :01:11.?174,000 to a man she met online

:01:12. > :01:16.at the match.com website. In fact he was a bogus profile

:01:17. > :01:26.made up by the scammers. Another man and a woman were

:01:27. > :01:43.acquitted. Police say the scam preyed on women

:01:44. > :01:48.emotionally. Like a quarter of ?1 million was handed over. They had

:01:49. > :01:54.all been members of match.com, looking for partners. They were

:01:55. > :02:01.targeted by fraudsters who created fake profiles of men. Women handed

:02:02. > :02:09.over sums between ?4000 and ?10,000 in most cases, one woman handed over

:02:10. > :02:13.?174,000. Much of the money was laundered through banks in Southsea.

:02:14. > :02:18.The Crown Prosecution Service says it will use the law to try to claw

:02:19. > :02:22.back the money but in many cases this is not about money but about

:02:23. > :02:25.women losing their dignity and their confidence.

:02:26. > :02:27.Dating websites have increasingly become a target for scammers,

:02:28. > :02:30.preying on people seeking relationships.

:02:31. > :02:33.Sarah`Jane Johnson from Haselmere in Surrey became a victim after she

:02:34. > :02:47.She lost ?300, but was close to sending the fraudsters thousands.

:02:48. > :02:56.She believes dating sites should do more to one people about scammers.

:02:57. > :03:05.He was a nice man, he looked nice, he had a good job, he was sensitive,

:03:06. > :03:10.in touch with his feelings, communicating on quite a deep

:03:11. > :03:16.emotional level. It seemed perfect but these photos were stolen, used

:03:17. > :03:19.by scammers to create a character with a story that Sarah`Jane

:03:20. > :03:25.believed. Within a couple of weeks I felt that

:03:26. > :03:31.I was developing feelings for this person, I was really entranced by

:03:32. > :03:37.his voice, it was very deep, almost hypnotic, lovely French accent. He

:03:38. > :03:40.weaved a complex story. He said he was in charge of a large

:03:41. > :03:46.construction project in South Africa and needed to pay taxes so he would

:03:47. > :03:51.be paid by the government for his work before returning to the UK.

:03:52. > :03:56.Then came the first gentle request for money. Sarah Janes sent ?300 but

:03:57. > :04:04.there was pressure for more and every time she became wary his calls

:04:05. > :04:11.and e`mails true her back in. E`mails like this one. I had a dream

:04:12. > :04:16.last night about us. I saw you on the pier and the wind was blowing

:04:17. > :04:20.through your hair and your eyes held the fading sunlight. I gently

:04:21. > :04:26.touched your cheek. I know this is the moment I have been waiting for

:04:27. > :04:34.and I pray it never ends. I was pulled back in again. Sarah`Jane was

:04:35. > :04:39.close to sending ?13,000 until a friend sent her aid blog full of

:04:40. > :04:46.similar stories and she finally realised she had been conned. I

:04:47. > :04:50.spent two days crying a lot of the time. I was really upset and then I

:04:51. > :04:56.felt really angry that somebody had chosen to do this to me. Sarah`Jane

:04:57. > :04:58.says she will never try online dating again. She wants others to

:04:59. > :05:02.learn from her mistakes. In a statement about the court case,

:05:03. > :05:19.match.com told us... In response to Sarah Jane's

:05:20. > :05:40.concerns the company added... The luxury car maker Rolls`Royce has

:05:41. > :05:42.tonight announced a big expansion It's to build

:05:43. > :05:47.a new technology centre in Bognor Regis, a stone's throw from its main

:05:48. > :05:52.production plant at Goodwood. It'll employ 200 people but only

:05:53. > :05:55.a handful will be new jobs. The Bognor unit will be

:05:56. > :05:58.in an area that could become an enterprise zone, offering incentives

:05:59. > :06:01.to the companies based there. Let's cross live to our Business

:06:02. > :06:04.Correspondent Alastair Fee who's The first cars rolled

:06:05. > :06:20.off the production line in 2003. For all its success, what they don't

:06:21. > :06:23.have at Goodwood is room to expand. That issue has now been solved,

:06:24. > :06:33.at a new site eight miles away. It has been a closely guarded secret

:06:34. > :06:39.but finally Rolls`Royce today confirmed its plans for the future.

:06:40. > :06:43.This is a significant development and the local area as well, it

:06:44. > :06:49.reinforces our commitment to the area and I am delighted that you all

:06:50. > :06:55.came here to share the great news, not only for us but also for the

:06:56. > :06:59.area. No change in its headquarters or the county it calls home, but it

:07:00. > :07:06.has found a location for a large new centre. The plan is growing and we

:07:07. > :07:13.needed to free up some space to give us freedom to grow even further.

:07:14. > :07:23.People and customer demand more and more bespoke content with

:07:24. > :07:28.Rolls`Royce. On the northern side of Bognor Regis, covering 30,000 square

:07:29. > :07:33.metres, Rolls`Royce is building a new technology and logistics centre.

:07:34. > :07:37.It will be bigger than four football pitches and they will not be making

:07:38. > :07:43.cars here but it will play an important part of its business.

:07:44. > :07:48.There will be a distribution centre for new cars and a workshop for car

:07:49. > :07:53.preparation. The choice of location means that Rolls`Royce is likely to

:07:54. > :07:59.be the first major company to take advantage of plans for a new

:08:00. > :08:04.enterprise zone. It is a major boost to our bid to become an enterprise

:08:05. > :08:10.zone but the mere fact that Rolls`Royce is investing so much

:08:11. > :08:15.money, producing a facility three quarters of that at Goodwood, in

:08:16. > :08:21.future will hopefully encourage a lot of companies. Rolls`Royce

:08:22. > :08:26.started in 1906 and became the choice of the rich and famous. The

:08:27. > :08:34.British company was finally bought by BMW, and they relocated to West

:08:35. > :08:44.Sussex. Rolls`Royce has seen a record 33% rise in sales. 2014 has

:08:45. > :08:48.been its West year yet. `` best. None of the employees knew of the

:08:49. > :08:52.announcement until this afternoon. It is pretty impressive, it will

:08:53. > :08:56.open up a lot of jobs for other people and hopefully we can expand.

:08:57. > :09:04.Good access to the new site will be critical. Two infrastructure sites

:09:05. > :09:11.are run the way and they are both designed to reduce congestion. More

:09:12. > :09:17.than 200 people will be based at the technology and logistics centre,

:09:18. > :09:22.which is expected to open in 2016. David Myers is from the Bognor Regis

:09:23. > :09:28.regeneration board. What do you hope will be the knock`on effect of this

:09:29. > :09:31.announcement? We are very excited to have Rolls`Royce in Bognor Regis and

:09:32. > :09:37.we think the knock`on effect will be important. The enterprise initiative

:09:38. > :09:42.we set up is going to attract new businesses into the town and we are

:09:43. > :09:50.very hopeful that there will be other motor sector businesses on the

:09:51. > :09:56.back of this. Surely to incentivise new businesses you are going to need

:09:57. > :09:59.the enterprise zone status. We are very confident it will happen but

:10:00. > :10:05.the government is still making up its mind, but we have very good

:10:06. > :10:09.structure within the Regis, just under 100 acres of land available

:10:10. > :10:15.for industrial abutment, and we believe that will offer companies

:10:16. > :10:26.are a lot of advantages to come into Bognor Regis very quickly.

:10:27. > :10:28.A boost for employees today at Goodwood and hopefully a new chapter

:10:29. > :10:32.in the fortunes of Bognor Regis. As you may have heard, the Duke and

:10:33. > :10:35.Duchess of Cambridge say they're delighted with the news they're

:10:36. > :10:37.expecting their second child. The news that Prince George will be

:10:38. > :10:41.getting a baby brother or sister was welcomed in Bucklebury,

:10:42. > :10:51.the Berkshire village where Kate I hope she keeps better health this

:10:52. > :10:58.time because she was quite poorly with Prince George. I think they are

:10:59. > :11:03.fantastic parents and, yeah, another little baby. It is good news for the

:11:04. > :11:06.village of course, people are thrilled around here. Lovely!

:11:07. > :11:08.Still to come in this evening's South Today...

:11:09. > :11:13.Could Portsmouth pull off a giant killing and beat Manchester to

:11:14. > :11:29.Ashya King is tonight in Prague hospital of planned proton beam

:11:30. > :11:35.treatment, after a legal order which had made him a ward of court was

:11:36. > :11:38.removed. Denby was taken from Southampton General Hospital earlier

:11:39. > :11:52.this week and doctors had questioned the benefit of the proton therapy.

:11:53. > :11:56.`` Ashya was taken. We have seen a war of words between Southampton

:11:57. > :12:01.General Hospital and the clinic in Prague over this proton beam

:12:02. > :12:05.therapy, whether it is really necessary. The doctors here say it

:12:06. > :12:09.will not do Ashya any harm but equally it will not do anything they

:12:10. > :12:12.could do with their normal radiotherapy.

:12:13. > :12:16.There was no benefit in Ashya's case for proton radiotherapy.

:12:17. > :12:19.We do not say it was unacceptable treatment.

:12:20. > :12:23.In Ashya's case, with the type of tumour that he has,

:12:24. > :12:29.because we need to irradiate the spinal cord and most of the

:12:30. > :12:30.brain because of the tumour, the advantages you would get from proton

:12:31. > :12:43.radiotherapy are not as great. Is this just the hospital trying to

:12:44. > :12:47.defend itself? I think there is a point in that but also generally

:12:48. > :12:53.medically they think they are in the right word in the last half an hour

:12:54. > :12:58.they say they wish Ashya well in Prague and I hope he makes a full

:12:59. > :13:09.recovery. He is over there and likely to start therapy soon.

:13:10. > :13:15.That is their treatment of choice and according to current knowledge

:13:16. > :13:30.it should spur some of the effects of treatment .

:13:31. > :13:35.I understand Portsmouth City Council is writing to the family to ask

:13:36. > :13:42.about their schooling ` because classes went back this week and

:13:43. > :13:45.those children are still abroad. Clearly exceptional circumstances,

:13:46. > :13:47.but the council wants to know they are not losing out

:13:48. > :13:49.and may even be sending some home education packs out, if they can get

:13:50. > :13:52.an address for them. Police are continuing to question

:13:53. > :13:54.two people about the murder of a mother`of`five who was stabbed

:13:55. > :13:57.to death on a New Forest farm. The body

:13:58. > :14:00.of Pennie Davis was found in a field A 37`year`old man, arrested on

:14:01. > :14:03.suspicion of assisting an offender, A 24`year`old woman is still in

:14:04. > :14:07.custody, and police have been given extra time to question a 22`year`old

:14:08. > :14:11.man on suspicion of murder. A new coastguard control room

:14:12. > :14:13.started taking responsibility Next week it will replace Portland

:14:14. > :14:19.coastguard as well. It marks the end

:14:20. > :14:21.of a hugely controversial process, strongly opposed

:14:22. > :14:23.by coastal communities, coastguards It will be responsible

:14:24. > :14:32.for coastal safety from Beachy Head in East Sussex right down to Topsham

:14:33. > :14:35.in Devon, but also have overall The coastguards' union has warned

:14:36. > :14:41.that a loss of local knowledge Our Transport Correspondent Paul

:14:42. > :14:55.Clifton reports. This is the National Maritime

:14:56. > :15:01.operations centre. When a Mayday signal is received the Coast Guard

:15:02. > :15:07.teams, life guards and helicopters, will be run from here. Unlike older

:15:08. > :15:13.centres, from here you can't see the sea. You can barely see daylight.

:15:14. > :15:20.Does that really matter? Air`traffic controllers at Swanwick can't see

:15:21. > :15:25.aeroplanes. Today good communications is all about

:15:26. > :15:29.computers. So the old Coast Guard base at Lee on the Solent will close

:15:30. > :15:47.later this week. Portland will close a week later. Mark Robb away used to

:15:48. > :15:52.work at Portland. `` Rodaway. Half the coastguards in some areas have

:15:53. > :15:56.applied for voluntary redundancy. The national coastguard agency has

:15:57. > :16:01.not brought a lot of the staff with them and that is a lot of experience

:16:02. > :16:05.that will not be transferred to this new centre and that will affect

:16:06. > :16:09.ultimately operations in the future. This place was built as a fire

:16:10. > :16:17.service headquarters but it was never used for that. Since 2008 it

:16:18. > :16:21.has stood empty, rented by government at ?120,000 a month. I

:16:22. > :16:26.suspect this is to do with money. It is not all to do with money. To be

:16:27. > :16:33.fair, it did not need modernising, if that is the word, but I think

:16:34. > :16:38.they modernised too far. Nearly 50 coastguards will work it, increasing

:16:39. > :16:46.to 100 in a year's time, combination of national control Centre and the

:16:47. > :16:56.20 47 `` 20 47 macro centre for the south coast. `` 24/7.

:16:57. > :16:58.Pensioners from the South who were sold "shared appreciation mortgages"

:16:59. > :17:01.have called for help in getting banks to change what they describe

:17:02. > :17:04.Inside Out South has been investigating after being told

:17:05. > :17:07.by some homeowners they have been left trapped in their properties.

:17:08. > :17:12.When Brian Daughtry retired after working for charities abroad he had

:17:13. > :17:22.little in the way of a pension so he was tempted by the offer of a

:17:23. > :17:25.?35,000 interest`free loan from the Bank of Scotland in return for a 75%

:17:26. > :17:28.share in any increase in the value of his New Forest home.

:17:29. > :17:31.Since then property prices have soared and if he sold the house

:17:32. > :17:34.tomorrow he would have to give the bank more than ?232,000. Thousands

:17:35. > :17:38.A group action against the banks failed before the

:17:39. > :17:41.details could ever be assessed in court.

:17:42. > :17:46.The banks argued technicalities until the legal funds ran out.

:17:47. > :17:51.The way it has turned out is very unfortunate.

:17:52. > :17:56.I am really in a difficult situation.

:17:57. > :17:59.Both banks say they can't change the mortgage terms and that

:18:00. > :18:03.at the time pensioners were advised to take independent advice

:18:04. > :18:06.but they say they do try to help people who are trapped in homes that

:18:07. > :18:16.And you can see Jon's full report on Inside Out tonight at the later time

:18:17. > :18:22.It's one of the biggest fleets of green buses in Europe,

:18:23. > :18:25.and today a specially built filling station was opened for Reading's

:18:26. > :18:33.The state`of`the`art facility was built with a grant

:18:34. > :18:36.from the Department of Transport, and, as Ben Moore reports,

:18:37. > :18:41.the drive to be eco`friendly is catching on in the town.

:18:42. > :18:46.When Reading buses need to fill up with gas they do just that.

:18:47. > :18:49.The depot's new ?1 million natural gas station has been paid for

:18:50. > :18:57.We find Reading is a great place to trial new ideas

:18:58. > :19:01.because it is willing to take on that risk and innovation and we want

:19:02. > :19:11.other cities across the UK, who can also access funding if they choose,

:19:12. > :19:13.to take a look at what is happening here.

:19:14. > :19:15.There are 34 such buses and all are now in service.

:19:16. > :19:18.But if eco`friendly travel is your thing the bus is not

:19:19. > :19:30.Of the town's 216 black cabs, 113 are being converted to hybrid

:19:31. > :19:38.natural compressed gas at a cost of ?370,000.

:19:39. > :19:41.For once there will not be the finger pointed at taxis

:19:42. > :19:45.and say, look, there's a polluting vehicle going along the road.

:19:46. > :19:50.We will be cleaner, which can only improve the image

:19:51. > :19:56.Does that mean fares are going to go down?

:19:57. > :19:59.As two forms of transport go green there is a spirit of collaboration.

:20:00. > :20:01.We fuel our buses in a great hurry in the evening

:20:02. > :20:05.when they come off service so in the day this depot is largely

:20:06. > :20:08.empty and the fuelling facility is sitting here unused and has

:20:09. > :20:12.enormous capacity for providing gas for road vehicles other than buses.

:20:13. > :20:15.This is ultimately a commercial venture `

:20:16. > :20:21.But with taxis converting too it seems the commitment to go green

:20:22. > :20:45.There is a lot of emphasis on the future generation of players for

:20:46. > :20:48.England and Portsmouth in football. Portsmouth stepped up

:20:49. > :20:51.its bid to become the first City Three cities are in the running

:20:52. > :20:55.for not only the title, but over ?1.5 million of Sport England money

:20:56. > :20:58.to spend on developing the game. As I discovered earlier,

:20:59. > :21:00.Portsmouth is going all out to win. Pompey is a name synonymous with

:21:01. > :21:15.both a city and its football club. It is worn in Naas, Pompey. It is

:21:16. > :21:23.not just put all, it is Pompey football. How can we give it up

:21:24. > :21:26.after all these years? When you talk about Pompey you don't know whether

:21:27. > :21:38.you are talking about the city or the football club. The blues, we are

:21:39. > :21:40.the best in the land! Or we were. The spirit of the fans was clear to

:21:41. > :21:41.see. Today was all about making it

:21:42. > :21:43.official and becoming Sport ?1.6 million will be awarded to

:21:44. > :22:07.invest in the grassroots level For that kind of money we should

:22:08. > :22:12.have a big impact on the game. We live it and we breathe it and for

:22:13. > :22:16.that to be recognised elsewhere would be fantastic. We would be able

:22:17. > :22:22.to do all of the projects we wanted to do for year. Manchester and

:22:23. > :22:27.Nottingham are also in the running. The decision will be made next week.

:22:28. > :22:32.As for Pompey, we all know what they are looking for. And if they win

:22:33. > :22:39.they will hold the title for two years. The ultimate goal is to find

:22:40. > :22:43.the next generation of talent. They performed well off the pitch

:22:44. > :22:49.but not quite as well on it. They were beaten 2`0 at Burton Albion.

:22:50. > :22:57.They fell behind after just two minutes, the manager criticising

:22:58. > :23:12.this defending. This good strike took Burton to another win. Michael

:23:13. > :23:31.Appleton's men are still in the League two relegation zone.

:23:32. > :23:38.Dorset event William Fox`Pitt in the burly horse trials over the weekend,

:23:39. > :23:50.here he is, a perfect show`jumping round moved him up in the rankings

:23:51. > :23:53.but it was not quite enough. It is worth a mention for the rugby as

:23:54. > :23:59.well, London Welsh got heavily beaten in the opening fixtures of

:24:00. > :24:03.the season, and London Irish were narrowly beaten.

:24:04. > :24:17.It is only the beginning of the season. Now the weather, Alexis is

:24:18. > :24:18.here. We have an area of high pressure well established over the

:24:19. > :24:40.UK. It was a misty and murky start in

:24:41. > :24:47.some places and the mist and fog tonight could be more dense than in

:24:48. > :24:51.other areas. Clear skies means temperatures will fall away in the

:24:52. > :24:58.countryside into single figures, seven or eight Celsius. Ten to 13 in

:24:59. > :25:02.the towns and cities. A cooler, fresher feeling night than last

:25:03. > :25:09.night. Temperatures similar each night this week, cooler in the

:25:10. > :25:12.countryside. Lots of sunshine initially tomorrow and as the day

:25:13. > :25:18.wears on we will see a lot more cloud in eastern areas. West is best

:25:19. > :25:24.for the sunshine, with a high of 21 Celsius. Slightly cooler along the

:25:25. > :25:29.south coast with the breeze. Through the course of tomorrow night it

:25:30. > :25:33.stays right again under clearing skies. Temperatures falling away the
