:00:00. > :00:08.Coming up between now and 7.00pm. so it is goodbye from me,

:00:09. > :00:10.Fighting for compensation, one woman's quest to get her money

:00:11. > :00:17.back after buying a car labelled dangerous.

:00:18. > :00:24.If anything had happened to the kids while I was driving, I would never

:00:25. > :00:26.Fighting slavery in Hampshire, we hear

:00:27. > :00:28.from the police officer tracking down the suspected culprits.

:00:29. > :00:32.A Sussex woman is finally honoured for her work with the wartile Dutch

:00:33. > :00:39.And the Pilgrim way, we meet the 11`year`old who's got the moves to

:00:40. > :00:57.'It put my children at risk and left me with a huge bill.'

:00:58. > :01:00.The words of a Hampshire mother who says the used car she bought

:01:01. > :01:03.from a Surrey dealer was dangerous and not road`worthy.

:01:04. > :01:06.Vicky Legge, who's from Liphook bought the car for ?850 frol

:01:07. > :01:15.But when Halfords inspected it, they told her it needed over ?2 00

:01:16. > :01:17.of repairs, faults DMJ described as wear and tear.

:01:18. > :01:19.Despite obtaining a court order against the ddaler,

:01:20. > :01:39.For sale, a 1.8 litre Renault. It is the car. Vicky Legge bought from a

:01:40. > :01:44.dealer in Surrey. He said it was all fine, in working order and would

:01:45. > :01:51.work for me. It didn't take long for problems to start. I drove ht home

:01:52. > :01:57.and lots of smoke started coming out of the engine. Vicky took it back to

:01:58. > :02:02.the dealer based on this estate in Surrey. Owned by this man. He looked

:02:03. > :02:06.under the bonnet and said it was fired and that I was lying.

:02:07. > :02:15.Obviously, I wasn't lying, there was a hell of a lot wrong with ht.

:02:16. > :02:22.Halfords put repair costs at over ?2000. So Vicky sent it back. I was

:02:23. > :02:27.getting nowhere and realised I had to start a small claims agahnst him.

:02:28. > :02:43.He never turned up on the d`y came. Here we are now, he has this ECJ and

:02:44. > :02:46.owes me money. `` CCJ the owner of the company says that it is no

:02:47. > :02:52.longer trading and he can't pay back the money. He says the issud is

:02:53. > :02:58.liked by Halfords were just wear and tear. Vicky has now borrowed more

:02:59. > :03:03.money for another car, she says she can't afford to pay bailiffs to

:03:04. > :03:05.recover the money. If anythhng had happened to the kids while H was

:03:06. > :03:13.driving that car I would never forgive myself. As to where this car

:03:14. > :03:20.is now? Vicky said she saw this ad soon after it was towed back. We

:03:21. > :03:23.asked if it had been sold on, the answer was, it's possible.

:03:24. > :03:26.So what rights do car buyers have when they buy a second hand vehicle?

:03:27. > :03:28.Earlier I spoke to Peter Williams from the RAC

:03:29. > :03:31.and I asked him what options are open to people if they are tnhappy.

:03:32. > :03:35.By buying a car from a car dealer, it is covered by the Sales of

:03:36. > :03:38.Goods Act 1979, that stipul`tes that the car should be of suffichent

:03:39. > :03:42.It has to be fit for purposd, driving safely on the road,

:03:43. > :03:45.it has to match accurately the advertising description.

:03:46. > :03:47.Buying privately from a private seller,

:03:48. > :03:53.It is very important to do the checks yourself

:03:54. > :03:59.If you have to take precauthonary checks, what are the priorities that

:04:00. > :04:02.you want to go through before handing over the mondy?

:04:03. > :04:06.Do your research, spend your time to inspect the vehicle.

:04:07. > :04:10.Look at the paperwork, check the V5 document matchds.

:04:11. > :04:13.The registration plate are the same, the vehicle identification

:04:14. > :04:18.and engine number, check out all of those things as well as the MOT.

:04:19. > :04:22.Ideally, take a professional along, like an RAC inspector, and have them

:04:23. > :04:28.Once you have driven the car off, you might have a problem,

:04:29. > :04:32.is it ever acceptible for the dealer to say 'you have paid a low price,

:04:33. > :04:40.No, never, if the car fails within hours or days of it being driven

:04:41. > :04:43.away, you are entitled to your money back or a replacdment.

:04:44. > :04:51.Human trafficking and so`called 'slavery' is closer than we think.

:04:52. > :04:53.That's according to Hampshire Police, who have today warndd people

:04:54. > :04:57.expect more operations in the coming months to expose local

:04:58. > :04:59.criminals suspected of keeping people in servittde.

:05:00. > :05:01.Figures obtained by South Today show that Hampshire Police have been made

:05:02. > :05:06.aware of 39 cases of potenthal victims of slavery so far this year.

:05:07. > :05:11.Another three were Vietnamese teenage children.

:05:12. > :05:14.Now a new task force has bedn created in Hampshire to crack

:05:15. > :05:19.But as our Home Affairs Correspondent Emma Vardy explains,

:05:20. > :05:26.The grim reality that slavery still exists.

:05:27. > :05:29.This was a site in Hamble, where vulnerable men were found kdpt and

:05:30. > :05:34.In recent months, Hampshire Police has carried out

:05:35. > :05:37.a series of visits to investigate suspected slavery cases.

:05:38. > :05:41.Officers say they've rescued a number of potential victils

:05:42. > :05:49.and are calling for the public's help to spot the signs.

:05:50. > :05:57.If you are having your drivdway tarmac, and you see someone who

:05:58. > :06:04.looks undernourished, perhaps mistreated or bullied by a foreman,

:06:05. > :06:07.not eating. If you have any doubts, get in contact with police `nd let

:06:08. > :06:09.us know. We will react to it. After a series

:06:10. > :06:13.of visits to Hampshire car washes, the manager of this one in Bitterne,

:06:14. > :06:16.was charged with a slavery offence. But the charges were later dropped,

:06:17. > :06:30.and he says the police's suspicions We run a car wash, we clean cars, we

:06:31. > :06:34.don't employ slaves here or treat people like slaves. I have been here

:06:35. > :06:44.a number of years and would never think to do that to people. There is

:06:45. > :06:48.no point are treating them bad. This car wash off and takes on pdople

:06:49. > :06:55.who've just moved to the cotntry and gives them their first job. They say

:06:56. > :06:59.everyone is treated fairly. Hampshire Police are stepping up its

:07:00. > :07:06.operation to find victims of exploitation. Some people, will

:07:07. > :07:14.think that it is about other countries, not fear. It is

:07:15. > :07:16.horrendous to think that sort of thing be going on.

:07:17. > :07:18.Victims identified by Hampshire Police are offered support

:07:19. > :07:24.8 men initially removed by police from this farm in Totton,

:07:25. > :07:31.In future, enslaving workers could carry a life sentence.

:07:32. > :07:34.But Hampshire Police say thdre's still a way to go

:07:35. > :07:44.for society to fully understand and effectively tackle this crime.

:07:45. > :07:47.?25 million worth of cuts need to be made by Reading Borough

:07:48. > :07:51.The council is blaming the budget trimming

:07:52. > :07:55.Government says there's no need for residents to feel the impact of the

:07:56. > :08:04.cuts, but Unions and some charities say that's now almost inevitable.

:08:05. > :08:12.So far we have seen old people's home is close, daycare centres go,

:08:13. > :08:17.it is the same thing. The old, sick, vulnerable, poor, young

:08:18. > :08:22.people, the people who will suffer when this comes. That is ustally

:08:23. > :08:26.because they don't have a voice All the local government needs to take

:08:27. > :08:29.its share of the pain, Readhng is no difference to any other council

:08:30. > :08:35.across the country. They have choices they can make, they have a

:08:36. > :08:39.budget of over 400 million, they don't have two slice departlent like

:08:40. > :08:40.you are doing, they can look at ways they can change how they opdrate.

:08:41. > :08:43.you are doing, they can look at ways they can change how they opdrate.

:08:44. > :08:45.An Ofsted inspection of services for children in Portsmouth has

:08:46. > :08:48.found that most children in care are well looked aftdr, but

:08:49. > :08:52.Inspectors say the council is still not providing a

:08:53. > :08:55."good" level of protection, help and care for children and young people.

:08:56. > :08:58.The work with youngsters le`ving care and trying to find work or

:08:59. > :09:01.Councillors lack the right training and experience to properly check up

:09:02. > :09:06.The council has said it's "disappointed" with the findings.

:09:07. > :09:08.Three people being questiondd by police in connection with

:09:09. > :09:11.the murder of Pennie Davis hn the New Forest have been released.

:09:12. > :09:16.The mother of five was found stabbed to death in a field near Be`ulieu

:09:17. > :09:20.No further action will be t`ken against two of those arrestdd on

:09:21. > :09:25.But a 46`year`old man has bden bailed until next month,

:09:26. > :09:29.Meanwhile, Justin Robertson, who has been charged with mtrder,

:09:30. > :09:41.A new poll published today claims just over half

:09:42. > :09:44.of local residents who responded support a second runway at Gatwick.

:09:45. > :09:46.According to the YouGov survey commissioned by the airport,

:09:47. > :09:49.51% of the 1000 people polldd said the benefits of expanding G`twick

:09:50. > :09:54.60% thought it was important for the local economy.

:09:55. > :09:56.But airport officials acknowledge there are still worries

:09:57. > :10:04.about how an expansion might affect the local area.

:10:05. > :10:06.Still to come in this evening's South Tod`y.

:10:07. > :10:09.Strictly street style, we mdet the Portsmouth youngster going to the

:10:10. > :10:19.A jewellery business faces ` bill of thousands of pounds to change

:10:20. > :10:22.its name after complaints from a major international brand.

:10:23. > :10:24.Beadessence set up in Sonning a year ago.

:10:25. > :10:28.But now another jewellery company called Pandora says the small

:10:29. > :10:31.company's name is too simil`r to one of its own ranges of jewelldry.

:10:32. > :10:33.Pandora, which is based in Denmark, had demanded

:10:34. > :10:37.the Sonning store change its name and they're having to complx.

:10:38. > :10:45.Our Business Correspondent @lastair Fee reports.

:10:46. > :10:53.Handmaids to order, bespoke jewellery, set up by two frhends,

:10:54. > :10:58.they have a thriving small business. The next step was to registdr their

:10:59. > :11:04.name as a trademark. That is where the problems began. Pandora have a

:11:05. > :11:12.range of beads, with a similar name, they feel that it is too

:11:13. > :11:16.close, to what they already have. They think there will be confusion

:11:17. > :11:23.amongst customers. That word essence can be seen on Pandora's stores

:11:24. > :11:27.across the world. They are `mong the biggest names in jewellery with a

:11:28. > :11:32.turnover of hundreds of millions of pounds. When asked for commdnt, no

:11:33. > :11:38.one got back to us. We could do nothing and risk being sued for

:11:39. > :11:41.using the name, we haven't larketed ourselves big because we ard waiting

:11:42. > :11:48.on the trademark, we don't have a lot of money, we are a small

:11:49. > :11:55.business. In contrast to a Pandora, this business doesn't have ` shop,

:11:56. > :11:59.they focus on bespoke items. We like Pandora, lots of our friends have

:12:00. > :12:03.their beads and bracelets, thousands of people buy them every dax. We

:12:04. > :12:09.never wanted to conflict with them in any way. What we do is vdry

:12:10. > :12:12.different. They have been ghven two months to change your name `nd I

:12:13. > :12:18.hoping with a loyal following on social media it will help them to

:12:19. > :12:23.start a game. Even though there is little to compere them to P`ndora,

:12:24. > :12:25.it is these two against a bhg company with thousands of elployees

:12:26. > :12:29.worldwide, here, they can't compete. Pubs and clubs in Southampton will

:12:30. > :12:32.now face a late night levy At a meeting last night,

:12:33. > :12:36.councillors voted to go ahe`d with the new measures, which could see

:12:37. > :12:39.some city nightspots facing charges Both the council and the police

:12:40. > :12:58.would get a share of the money. We understand a car has gond over a

:12:59. > :13:02.cliff on the Isle of Wight. All emergency services are on the

:13:03. > :13:05.scene, there is no word on how many people are involved or their

:13:06. > :13:09.injuries. Keep up with that online. Three months after Reading launched

:13:10. > :13:12.a rent`a`bike scheme the inhtiative 200 bikes are available

:13:13. > :13:15.in the town and in the first two months thex've been

:13:16. > :13:18.hired more than 5,000 times. Ben Moore is in Reading tonhght

:13:19. > :13:35.Ben, is there a quiet transport Yes, absolutely. I am at ond of 27

:13:36. > :13:39.stations for the new bikes, just outside the university. This is one

:13:40. > :13:46.of the most popular. Just ndxt to the university sports Park. A lot of

:13:47. > :13:50.bikes parked here. As you s`y, the scheme is three months old `nd has

:13:51. > :13:54.proved a hit with students, before they went away for summer. Ht seems

:13:55. > :13:59.that popularity is now extending across town. The rush hour dash to

:14:00. > :14:07.Reading's with the train st`tion is a thing of the past for somd. The

:14:08. > :14:13.commute here is certainly changing. Are use them every day, I travel in

:14:14. > :14:19.from Bristol and I get off the train, go to Thames Valley Park It

:14:20. > :14:26.is handy having them near the train station, it was a car beford, and

:14:27. > :14:33.that was paying parking fees, stuff like that. It has been a good summer

:14:34. > :14:38.for the ready bike scheme. 2000 bikes in June, rising to three and a

:14:39. > :14:42.half thousand hide in July. There are many bikes in 27 docking

:14:43. > :14:45.stations across Reading, like this one. Although the scheme is proving

:14:46. > :14:52.popular, most of the journexs are short. More than half of all rentals

:14:53. > :14:56.are for journeys like the one I have just done of 30 minutes or less

:14:57. > :15:06.That means, if you are a melber it is free. Free, that is, with a 50

:15:07. > :15:13.annual charge. But by any rdckoning, that is cheap. No schema makes

:15:14. > :15:17.money, that is why we are looking for sponsorship. The first stage has

:15:18. > :15:21.a subsidy which we have sectred there is no danger initiallx, but we

:15:22. > :15:24.are looking for sponsorship to maintain it in the long terl.

:15:25. > :15:29.Despite the early success, other places around the staff are

:15:30. > :15:32.cautious. In the new Forest, cycling is popular, but the council decided

:15:33. > :15:38.not to go ahead with its own hire scheme, over worries over ldvels of

:15:39. > :15:46.support, financially and within the community. But in Reading, ht is two

:15:47. > :15:49.wheels good, the scheme is set to expand. Critics say it costs too

:15:50. > :15:54.much and that the money shotld be spent on too much, but thosd are

:15:55. > :16:02.using it say the pound per hour hire charge is good value for money. I

:16:03. > :16:06.was going to take one of thdse stands, but the account I h`ve been

:16:07. > :16:09.using all day seems to be frozen so I can't get out of the stathon,

:16:10. > :16:14.maybe next time you can comd to Reading and ride around on one.

:16:15. > :16:20.Then, you are out of time and out of credit, thank you very much. There

:16:21. > :16:23.is a man out of credit, I'm sure you are always in credit, Lewis.

:16:24. > :16:27.Hampshire looking all right, a draw? After a rain`affected day

:16:28. > :16:29.at the Ageas Bowl, Hampshird salvaged a draw against Kent to

:16:30. > :16:31.boost their promotion hopes. Fresh from his contract extdnsion

:16:32. > :16:34.earlier in the week, Will Slith scored a much needed unbeatdn

:16:35. > :16:36.century, but the other batslen offered little resistance as key

:16:37. > :16:39.wickets tumbled. Liam Dawson there bowled by Tredwell. But Smith

:16:40. > :16:42.batted through to take Hampshire to 248/9, which was enough for

:16:43. > :16:47.the captains to shake on thd draw. Hampshire carry

:16:48. > :16:50.a 10`point advantage over 3rd place Essex into the final round

:16:51. > :16:52.of matches next week. Sussex, meanwhile beat Notts

:16:53. > :16:56.by 191 runs at Trent Bridge. Ed Joyce scored 149

:16:57. > :16:59.for the visitors, Sussex then skittled Notts

:17:00. > :17:07.for 193 to take the win. In football, Southampton's summer

:17:08. > :17:09.signing Sadio Mane has had his work permit cleared and will

:17:10. > :17:12.arrive at the club tomorrow. The Senegalese winger had bden

:17:13. > :17:14.waiting for international clearance after joining from Austrian side

:17:15. > :17:18.Red Bull Salzburg He'll now be available to play

:17:19. > :17:32.against Swansea on Saturday. After a turbulent couple of months,

:17:33. > :17:37.Salisbury has been put into Administration at the High Court.

:17:38. > :17:41.The owner was not at the he`ring to challenge the action. BBC South

:17:42. > :17:43.understand the move was madd by one of the consortium looking to take

:17:44. > :17:44.over the running of the club. of the consortium looking to take

:17:45. > :17:47.over the running of the club. In sailing, Lymington's Nick

:17:48. > :17:49.Thompson has won Great Brit`in's first medal at the Sailing World

:17:50. > :17:51.Championships in Santander. He took bronze in the men's Laser

:17:52. > :17:53.after finishing behind Nicholas Heiner of the Nethdrlands

:17:54. > :17:56.and Tom Burton of Australia. It was dissapointment for Thompson

:17:57. > :18:05.who was hoping to secure gold. I really thought it was my time I

:18:06. > :18:10.have come so close in previous years, I really wanted it this time.

:18:11. > :18:15.To not come away with the gold is disappointing, but there is two more

:18:16. > :18:15.years until the games so I will go away and work hard.

:18:16. > :18:18.Weymouth's Nick Dempsey goes for windsurfing gold tomorrow.

:18:19. > :18:20.In Speedway, Poole Pirates have moved back to

:18:21. > :18:24.the top of the elite league with a win away at Leicester. The 49`4

:18:25. > :18:27.point victory means only Kings Lynn can catch them, who need at least

:18:28. > :18:30.The team finishing top of the table choose

:18:31. > :18:36.Now, street dancing is an Alerican craze that's taken off in the UK

:18:37. > :18:40.And for one 11`year`old boy from Cosham, dancing to hiphop has

:18:41. > :18:42.helped him to book a place at the Street Dancing World

:18:43. > :18:50.His name's Dylan Pilgrim and I went to see him in training.

:18:51. > :18:53.Having danced to hip`hop music since the age of 6, Dylan Phlgrim

:18:54. > :19:02.If you don't know what that is, he's good.

:19:03. > :19:05.Training almost every day in Fareham as part of the

:19:06. > :19:08.Just Street Dance Crew, Dyl`n seems to have found his calling in life.

:19:09. > :19:12.When I'm hurt, I dance, it goes away, when I'm ill, I dance,

:19:13. > :19:19.He finished 3rd in the European Qualifiers last month

:19:20. > :19:24.and is now fully focussed on taking on the best in thd world.

:19:25. > :19:27.I thought he was going to whn it, at one point, when we were waiting.

:19:28. > :19:33.I have my money ready to pl`ce a bet on him winning at the worlds.

:19:34. > :19:38.soon became apparent that d`ncing was what he wanted to do.

:19:39. > :19:41.I said to his dad, I don't think he wants to do

:19:42. > :19:45.I said, because when he is in goal he isn't doing it.

:19:46. > :19:48.He said, what is he doing then? I said, he's

:19:49. > :19:56.They love it, they are all hn the hats and jackets, it is really cool.

:19:57. > :19:59.Just a week before the compdtition, dancers are given a CD with 52

:20:00. > :20:03.tracks on that they might h`ve to dance to in front of judges.

:20:04. > :20:05.But Dylan seems to take it in his stride.

:20:06. > :20:07.It is quite nerve wracking, but it is my first world

:20:08. > :20:23.championships, I have traindd a lot and I am aiming for top spot.

:20:24. > :20:31.Some brilliant moves, Dylan joins us here. For people like me, whth no

:20:32. > :20:45.rhythm, explain how difficult it is and why you love it's Bore da I Love
