:00:10. > :00:10.Welcome to South today. I'm Sally so it's goodbye from me,

:00:11. > :00:20.Welcome to South today. I'm Sally Taylor. The headlines: 999 staff are

:00:21. > :00:23.left suicidal by a climate of fear, according to union leaders.

:00:24. > :00:27.Warnings about the dangers of online dating from a woman who lost

:00:28. > :00:30.thousands of pounds and ended up with a criminal record.

:00:31. > :00:34.Very early on he was telling me how much she loved me and wanted to be

:00:35. > :00:40.with me and I suppose I just got to the point where I believed

:00:41. > :00:45.everything he said. The Berkshire man looking to scoop

:00:46. > :00:52.the Oscars of the ice cream world. And spreading the love - heartfelt

:00:53. > :00:58.messages on Valentine's Day. Union leaders representing

:00:59. > :01:00.999 call handlers at South East Coast Ambulance service

:01:01. > :01:04.are claiming that a report detailing horrific acts of staff bullying

:01:05. > :01:06.has been covered up. The independent report was completed

:01:07. > :01:13.in May last year but has now been It's said to describe a climate

:01:14. > :01:19.of fear with two call handlers attempting suicide

:01:20. > :01:33.because of the abuse. Behind these walls was a workforce

:01:34. > :01:37.subjected to a culture of fear, according to reports carried out

:01:38. > :01:45.after four staff members complained of harassment. 999 col operators

:01:46. > :01:49.suffered bullying, core version and intimidation, it was said. To even

:01:50. > :01:54.attempted suicide. Looking at some of the findings in

:01:55. > :02:01.this report, as you would imagine I am appalled. I am beyond

:02:02. > :02:06.disappointed, I am very angry. There will be serious questions to ask if

:02:07. > :02:12.these are true. Women were called obscene names. A

:02:13. > :02:21.culture of favouritism and nepotism meant that some were threatened with

:02:22. > :02:25.the sack. The trust declined an interview but

:02:26. > :02:28.in a statement described these as historical allegations that had

:02:29. > :02:32.either been dealt with or had no evidence to back them up but they

:02:33. > :02:36.did say they take bullying and harassment very seriously and are

:02:37. > :02:44.working hard to address this area of concern. The union which represents

:02:45. > :02:50.call handlers says that staff who were responsible are still in place

:02:51. > :02:52.and more must be done. They are still taking prime

:02:53. > :02:56.positions within the trust so clearly it has not been dealt with.

:02:57. > :03:00.I think that as an outright lie by the trust and if they have been

:03:01. > :03:05.dealt but then had been dealt with behind closed doors. It is very much

:03:06. > :03:11.a boys club and these members are the leading lights in the boys club.

:03:12. > :03:14.The need to be removed from the organisation.

:03:15. > :03:21.It is hardly the first scandal to hit the trust.

:03:22. > :03:30.It was alleged that ambulances were delayed in a deliberate tactic to

:03:31. > :03:35.meet targets. A new chief executive has been appointed but has not yet

:03:36. > :03:39.in place. He will have a lot on his plate when he arrives.

:03:40. > :03:42.Investigators have spent the day at the Reading branch of Top Shop

:03:43. > :03:44.following the death of a 10 year old boy.

:03:45. > :03:46.He suffered fatal head injuries in an incident

:03:47. > :03:50.The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

:03:51. > :03:53.James Ingham is at the Oracle shopping centre.

:03:54. > :04:01.James, what more do we know about what happened?

:04:02. > :04:04.Few details have been released at this stage just over 24 hours

:04:05. > :04:23.after emergency services were alerted to this incident.

:04:24. > :04:26.Police and paramedics responded to calls at around 4:15pm

:04:27. > :04:30.yesterday afternoon they found a boy had suffered serious head injuries

:04:31. > :04:36.after an incident involving what police are describing

:04:37. > :04:51.Well, the store has been closed all day.

:04:52. > :04:54.These pictures show a security guard near the shop front.

:04:55. > :04:55.Behind those barriers, several investigations have begun.

:04:56. > :04:58.Thames Valley Police is looking into the circumstances surrounding

:04:59. > :05:03.Reading Borough Council has also sent in safety experts to carry

:05:04. > :05:34.Late this afternoon, Top Shop said...

:05:35. > :05:42.It is half term here in Berkshire and many parents have been out with

:05:43. > :05:46.their children. Those we spoke to said they were shocked and

:05:47. > :05:50.traumatised and deeply saddened. That will be felt in this community

:05:51. > :06:03.for a long time, I think. A soldier's been charged with two

:06:04. > :06:05.counts of causing death by dangerous driving after a car crash

:06:06. > :06:08.which killed two teenage girls while they were out

:06:09. > :06:10.running in Aldershot. 16 year old Stacey Burrows and 17

:06:11. > :06:12.year old Lucy PIEgott died after the collision on Queens Avenue

:06:13. > :06:15.in early November. 24 year old Michael Casey

:06:16. > :06:17.from North London has been bailed and will appear before magistrates

:06:18. > :06:19.in Basingstoke next month. They say love is blind and that's

:06:20. > :06:22.perhaps what internet Hampshire police have chosen

:06:23. > :06:25.Valentine's Day to launch a campaign about the dangers that online dating

:06:26. > :06:27.can sometimes pose. Every three hours a new

:06:28. > :06:31.victim of dating fraud The average victim is 49 years

:06:32. > :06:40.old and loses ?10,000. And it typically takes just 30 days

:06:41. > :06:44.from first contact for the victim Today, a victim of online dating

:06:45. > :06:50.fraud is sharing her experiences of how she lost thousands of pounds

:06:51. > :06:53.and ending up with a conviction Our Home Affairs Correspondent

:06:54. > :07:04.Emma Vardy has the story. Very early on he was telling me how

:07:05. > :07:08.much she loved me. A love story, which

:07:09. > :07:10.became a nightmare. When Jenny met a man online,

:07:11. > :07:12.he quickly gained her affections. But later he began asking

:07:13. > :07:24.for help to transfer money I would go to maybe three different

:07:25. > :07:26.branches and withdraw the funds and deposit it into the other bank

:07:27. > :07:27.accounts. Over three years she

:07:28. > :07:34.lost more the ?20,000 of her own cash, and

:07:35. > :07:37.was convicted of money And has made this film with

:07:38. > :07:46.Hampshire Police to warn others. I never thought that I was naive. I

:07:47. > :07:47.didn't think anything like this could happen to me.

:07:48. > :07:52.The man who conned her, has never been tracked down.

:07:53. > :07:54.Police say a quarter of all so-called romance frauds

:07:55. > :08:06.But often the fraudsters are operating from abroad,

:08:07. > :08:08.and can be scamming hundreds of people online at once.

:08:09. > :08:11.This type of scam can be so powerful, because they prey

:08:12. > :08:16.on a victims deepest desires and their longing for love.

:08:17. > :08:25.Be aware of the few things such as declaring undying love for dropping

:08:26. > :08:26.and financial issues very early on. That is a bit dodgy.

:08:27. > :08:29.The number of people defrauded in the UK by online dating scams

:08:30. > :08:44.You hear more and more in the news about it so you have to treated with

:08:45. > :08:47.caution. You can write anything you want but

:08:48. > :08:53.if you see somebody then it is completely different.

:08:54. > :08:55.Now on valentine's day police are warning potential victims,

:08:56. > :08:59.because the fraudsters themselves will very rarely be caught.

:09:00. > :09:02.Many victims like Jenny will look back and wonder how they ever fell

:09:03. > :09:10.It's a question I put to Tony Neate from the

:09:11. > :09:24.It's the old adage, love is blind. I think people have rose tinted

:09:25. > :09:30.glasses on. They are looking for a relationship. Some people have just

:09:31. > :09:35.come out of a bad relationship or might have lost someone. Even the

:09:36. > :09:38.elderly are affected by this. People might say something nice to them or

:09:39. > :09:45.are charming and they start to fall for them and then those rose tinted

:09:46. > :09:49.glasses start to turn red. Scammers always seemed to be one

:09:50. > :09:58.step ahead. How sophisticated have they become?

:09:59. > :10:02.Very sophisticated but we have to remember that the Internet is a

:10:03. > :10:06.great place and lots of people have found love online. But it can be

:10:07. > :10:12.dangerous if you don't take the necessary precautions to safeguard

:10:13. > :10:16.yourself. It is a matter of talking to the people, not relying on their

:10:17. > :10:19.profile, and making sure you got all the appropriate information, before

:10:20. > :10:24.sending money, which is worst thing can possibly do.

:10:25. > :10:29.How can we spot a sweet talking con artist?

:10:30. > :10:36.Asked a lot of questions. He will find they want to know a lot about

:10:37. > :10:40.you but don't golf -- don't give so much information about themselves.

:10:41. > :10:47.Asked a friend or family member to look at it. They might see something

:10:48. > :10:52.that you don't. We've got to remember that love is blind and

:10:53. > :10:53.those rose tinted glasses can get red and read the more you speak to

:10:54. > :11:03.them. -- more red. The high tech company

:11:04. > :11:04.Motorola Solutions says it's moving its European headquarters

:11:05. > :11:09.from Basingstoke to central London. 270 people are currently

:11:10. > :11:11.employed at the site. The company isn't the first high

:11:12. > :11:13.profile name to move Briony Leyland joins us

:11:14. > :11:16.live from Basingstoke. Briony, tell us more

:11:17. > :11:18.about what's happening? Motorola Solutions provides high

:11:19. > :11:20.tech communication equipment such as two way radios used

:11:21. > :11:24.by the emergency services. It's been in Basingstoke

:11:25. > :11:28.for 30 years. It is based in Chicago and employs

:11:29. > :11:32.14,000 employees around the world. The company made its name

:11:33. > :11:36.with mobile phones but that side of the business -

:11:37. > :11:38.Motorola Mobility - which also has a base

:11:39. > :11:40.here in Basingstoke - was split off a few years ago

:11:41. > :11:44.and is unaffected by today's news. Motorola solutions told

:11:45. > :11:46.us? "We are working closely with our employees

:11:47. > :11:56.through this relocation process. This isn't the first time

:11:57. > :11:58.Basingstoke has lost That's right, over the last five

:11:59. > :12:04.years Basingstoke has lost The Chinese technology firm Huawei

:12:05. > :12:14.relocated to Reading, they said they couldn't find

:12:15. > :12:21.a suitable place to expand here. Energy giant SSE also chose reading

:12:22. > :12:26.for its new headquarters. It is a blow in terms

:12:27. > :12:28.of Basingstoke's profile, losing a high profile

:12:29. > :12:30.global player like this. I do believe that Basingstoke

:12:31. > :12:33.is strong enough to get over this and I'm sure that some other

:12:34. > :12:36.high-tech company will treasure those skills and those premises

:12:37. > :12:49.but it will prove difficult for some No comments from people leaving

:12:50. > :12:50.their work tonight. Motorola Solutions says it will continue to

:12:51. > :12:52.look for opportunities. One of the two brothers jailed

:12:53. > :12:55.for an acid attack in Southampton which left a woman scarred and blind

:12:56. > :12:59.in one eye has had his appeal The Appeal Court sitting

:13:00. > :13:02.in Winchester also denied Billy Midmore's application

:13:03. > :13:03.to appeal against his Drug dealer Billy Midmore denied

:13:04. > :13:08.being involved in the attack but was convicted and given

:13:09. > :13:11.a 15 year jail term and five years His brother, Geoffrey Midmore,

:13:12. > :13:17.admitted carrying out the attack The victim, Carla Whitlock,

:13:18. > :13:21.was blinded in one eye The appeal revolved around

:13:22. > :13:26.a WhatsApp message sent by Geoffrey Midmore to his

:13:27. > :13:30.girlfriend before the acid attack in which he described the drain

:13:31. > :13:34.cleaner he'd bought with Billy as the "one face melter",

:13:35. > :13:39.next to a photograph of the product. The defence argued it was hearsay

:13:40. > :13:44.evidence and should not have been admissible at the trial and,

:13:45. > :13:47.when it was used as evidence, they should have been able to

:13:48. > :13:52.question Geoffrey Midmore about it. The Crown has argued that the acid

:13:53. > :13:55.attack that took place outside of the Turtle Bay restaurant

:13:56. > :13:57.in Southampton was The brothers bought the acid

:13:58. > :14:01.together and they were at several other places together,

:14:02. > :14:04.including here at a McDonald's restaurant when the box containing

:14:05. > :14:09.the drain cleaner was visible. The Lord Chief Justice Lord Thomas

:14:10. > :14:13.said the Appeal Court had decided to dismiss Billy Midmore's appeal

:14:14. > :14:19.against his conviction and they would give the reasons

:14:20. > :14:22.for doing so later in writing. The court also dismissed his appeal

:14:23. > :14:27.against his lengthy sentence of 15 years in jail and five years

:14:28. > :14:30.on extended licence. Lord Thomas said that

:14:31. > :14:33.the punishment was not excessive He said that Billy Midmore had

:14:34. > :14:59.an appalling record Within the last hour, cox between

:15:00. > :15:07.Southern Railways and the union have ended without progress. Strikes have

:15:08. > :15:10.been held over in the dispute over the role of conductors.

:15:11. > :15:12.Later, an extraordinary 18th century tryst the wife,

:15:13. > :15:14.husband and her lover living in the same house.

:15:15. > :15:26.The scandal of Admiral Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton.

:15:27. > :15:29.A mother from Portsmouth has been sentenced to life imprisonment

:15:30. > :15:33.Nicola Brown's baby Jake died in December 2014 after receiving

:15:34. > :15:39.The judge said Nicola Brown had been prepared to blame others for Jake's

:15:40. > :15:42.death and must serve at least fourteen-and-a-half years in jail.

:15:43. > :15:45.A serious case review is underway - as the family was known to social

:15:46. > :15:52.services and the NHS before the baby's death.

:15:53. > :15:54.The acting leader of West Berkshire Council has

:15:55. > :15:59.said everyone's thoughts are with their leader

:16:00. > :16:01.after he was seriously injured and his wife killed

:16:02. > :16:04.Roger and Zelda Croft from Thatcham were travelling in France

:16:05. > :16:09.Mr Croft is in a stable condition in hospital.

:16:10. > :16:11.Roger had a lot of friends in the council, both council

:16:12. > :16:14.officers and council members, and first of all our thoughts

:16:15. > :16:24.Hopefully over the next days and weeks we will give whatever

:16:25. > :16:43.Time for the sport now. You were at the game last night. It was a

:16:44. > :16:50.valiant effort. A good game but not the result Bournemouth fans wanted.

:16:51. > :16:51.Ultimately another loss but a good performance. They are looking over

:16:52. > :16:55.their shoulders. Bournemouth are now seven games

:16:56. > :17:01.without a win in the Premier League after their 2-0 loss

:17:02. > :17:03.to Manchester City last night. With the TV cameras in town,

:17:04. > :17:06.it was the visitors The lights were on,

:17:07. > :17:09.the cameras were rolling Bournemouth's goal living

:17:10. > :17:12.a charmed life early But Raheem Sterling made no

:17:13. > :17:16.mistake on the half hour. His 7th in 5 games

:17:17. > :17:22.against the Cherries. They try to get straight back into

:17:23. > :17:35.the picture and they have done it. Joshua King looked to have

:17:36. > :17:37.scored an immediate reply. Although it was disallowed

:17:38. > :17:39.for this tug on John Stones. In the second half

:17:40. > :17:41.Sterling turned provider. Tyrone Mings putting

:17:42. > :17:53.through his own net under They made it difficult for us

:17:54. > :17:59.because they keep the ball so well. I thought our lives gave everything

:18:00. > :18:01.but ultimately came up short. -- our lads.

:18:02. > :18:04.There's a full fixture list in the Football League tonight,

:18:05. > :18:06.Brighton will look to regain top spot in the Championship

:18:07. > :18:09.While Reading host Brentford at the Madejski Stadium.

:18:10. > :18:12.Which is where Tim Dellor is this evening for BBC Radio Berkshire.

:18:13. > :18:30.What is more romantic than Valentine 's night at Reading's stadium? The

:18:31. > :18:36.playing surface resembles a poorly kept allotment. Those sacrificing an

:18:37. > :18:39.amorous evening are into an altogether less relaxing experience

:18:40. > :18:41.here. What a prospect.

:18:42. > :18:44.Elsewhere, in League One, MK Dons are at Bury,

:18:45. > :18:46.Swindon need points at Northampton to get out of the relegation zone,

:18:47. > :18:49.while Oxford are looking for a 6th straight win against Southend.

:18:50. > :18:51.In League Two, Portsmouth who are four points

:18:52. > :18:53.from third-placed Carlisle, with a game in hand host Blackpool.

:18:54. > :18:56.Former Sussex Cricket captain Michael Yardy has been named

:18:57. > :19:06.Yardy retired in 2015 after two decades with Sussex as a player,

:19:07. > :19:10.He'll coach batsmen at each level from the junior squads up

:19:11. > :19:14.Now, at the end of this month Southampton Football Club will take

:19:15. > :19:17.part in their first League Cup Final in 38 years and we want

:19:18. > :19:20.Look at this fantastic footage from the archive,

:19:21. > :19:23.of Lawrie McMenemy's side training ahead of the 1979 final

:19:24. > :19:29.Did you make it to Wembley and have a story to tell about the day?

:19:30. > :19:31.Maybe you missed the game for a particular reason?

:19:32. > :19:33.Or perhaps you know of someone going to extraordinary lengths

:19:34. > :19:53.It's awards season - you may have seen the Bafta's the other night -

:19:54. > :19:56.we've also had the Emmies, and there's the Oscars looming.

:19:57. > :20:04.Paul Field has been in the ice cream business for more

:20:05. > :20:08.than 35 years - he's one of two people

:20:09. > :20:11.from our region in the running to be crowned mobile Ice Cream

:20:12. > :20:16.Paul Field's been an ice cream man since he left school.

:20:17. > :20:19.There were around 20,000 ice cream men when he first

:20:20. > :20:24.20, 25 years ago, I could pull in a street and park anywhere.

:20:25. > :20:26.But now, the street is full up with cars.

:20:27. > :20:29.Sundays has changed, cos when the shops were closed

:20:30. > :20:31.on Sunday, everybody was at home and they came and bought

:20:32. > :20:36.Sunday actually is the quietest day of the week now.

:20:37. > :20:39.Paul has had some famous customers - Tony Blackburn, Debbie McGee

:20:40. > :20:43.and even Princes William and Harry - but the biggest honour would be

:20:44. > :20:48.winning the coveted title of ice cream man of the year.

:20:49. > :20:51.If I won it, it would be for the Reading people because

:20:52. > :20:53.35 years of supporting me, Southcote, Coley,

:20:54. > :20:56.I've done the streets round there and I've seen the people

:20:57. > :20:59.grow up from children and now they've got their own children

:21:00. > :21:02.and I'm really proud to be from Reading and I'm really proud

:21:03. > :21:04.that they've supported me over the years.

:21:05. > :21:08.Paul doesn't like his customers getting saucy, though.

:21:09. > :21:10.The sauce is every ice cream man's nightmare.

:21:11. > :21:13.It gets on the floor, it becomes sticky and gets

:21:14. > :21:16.all over our hands and in the coins and in the money.

:21:17. > :21:18.If people could stay away from sauce, that'd be brilliant.

:21:19. > :21:20.There are perks of the job, of course.

:21:21. > :21:26.And that's a real nice classic tune.

:21:27. > :21:29.You're not tempted to go for anything a little left-field?

:21:30. > :21:32.I suppose if Donald Trump comes to England this year,

:21:33. > :21:34.I'll put Yankee Doodle Dandy on for him.

:21:35. > :21:40.On reflection, Paul says winning ice cream man of the year will be

:21:41. > :21:43.the highlight of his career - but he's got to fight off

:21:44. > :21:48.competition from Bognor Regis and Stafford in the final.

:21:49. > :21:51.Hundreds of romantics have been declaring their love at a special

:21:52. > :21:57.Messages of devotion have been chalked across Guildhall Square -

:21:58. > :22:04.There was plenty of love to go around for those without a date

:22:05. > :22:06.too, with many notes to friends and family.

:22:07. > :22:09.It's a Valentine's Day, you've got to spread the love.
