:00:16. > :00:17.Hello, I'm Allen Sinclair with the news from South Today.

:00:18. > :00:20.There's a warning to those enjoying the countryside this

:00:21. > :00:22.weekend that huge areas are at risk from heathland and grass fires.

:00:23. > :00:35.Hampshire firefighters have dealt with more than 50 incidents over

:00:36. > :00:40.The ground still smouldering in parts of the six hectares

:00:41. > :00:50.The recent warm weather has created a perfect storm -

:00:51. > :00:51.vegetation is dry and people are around.

:00:52. > :00:52.Bottles, broken glass on the ground there,

:00:53. > :00:55.another example of whereby the sun can react to it like

:00:56. > :00:59.Another potential cause for the start of the fire.

:01:00. > :01:01.I'm not saying that this was the one on this occasion,

:01:02. > :01:04.but take your rubbish with you take a glass home you,

:01:05. > :01:08.This was the Yateley fire at its height, one of 52

:01:09. > :01:10.Hampshire Fire Rescue dealt with within the week,

:01:11. > :01:14.The devastation caused by this fire is all too evident.

:01:15. > :01:16.Wildlife animals will have perished in this fire, but thankfully,

:01:17. > :01:18.no people were injured, although it came close to houses

:01:19. > :01:26.It can't be ruled out that this fire was started deliberately.

:01:27. > :01:29.It's the loss of the land, it's the damage the environment -

:01:30. > :01:31.it will take years to recover from this.

:01:32. > :01:33.Let alone, further still, the risk to the public,

:01:34. > :01:42.These fires can take flight very, very rapidly, hence,

:01:43. > :01:44.we quite often term them as a wildfire.

:01:45. > :01:48.Whilst the preservation of these vulnerable open spaces is key,

:01:49. > :01:51.the message is if you do encounter a fire, report it and don't try

:01:52. > :02:01.Poultry farmers are allowing their birds outdoors again

:02:02. > :02:03.for the first time in months, after restrictions to prevent

:02:04. > :02:06.the spread of bird-flu from wildfowl were lifted.

:02:07. > :02:09.Normally, free-range hens have had to be kept indoors.

:02:10. > :02:12.That's meant that, since February, boxes of free-range eggs have

:02:13. > :02:15.had to carry a label, pointing out that the birds

:02:16. > :02:17.have been been kept inside for their welfare.

:02:18. > :02:23.When these hens were first shut inside the barn,

:02:24. > :02:26.dozens died of suffocation as they crushed up inside against

:02:27. > :02:38.They did get used to it, but now the restrictions have eased,

:02:39. > :02:43.When these hens were first shut inside the barn,

:02:44. > :02:46.Production, I think, probably was affected a little bit.

:02:47. > :02:51.They certainly ate more food, because obviously when they're

:02:52. > :02:55.outside, they're grazing, weeds, grass, slugs,

:02:56. > :03:04.They were marked as barn eggs rather than free range.

:03:05. > :03:10.As from yesterday, they are now free range again, which is great.

:03:11. > :03:14.This easing of restrictions by Defra comes with a warning attached.

:03:15. > :03:18.All keepers must still comply with strict bio-security measures,

:03:19. > :03:21.because the risk of a flock like like this one contracting bird

:03:22. > :03:28.And the worry here on New Farm is the hens may have

:03:29. > :03:35.to spend every winter inside until a vaccine is developed.

:03:36. > :03:38.The distinctive drone of its engines has been heard in the skies over

:03:39. > :03:44.but the aircraft that's shuttled tens of thousands of passengers

:03:45. > :03:47.between the city and the Channel Islands has touched

:03:48. > :03:50.As Edward Sault reports, the Trislander plane,

:03:51. > :03:54.built on the Isle of Wight, has made more flights than any other

:03:55. > :04:00.Almost 33,000 flying hours and over 105,000 landings,

:04:01. > :04:04.but this Aurigny Trislander has landed for the last time,

:04:05. > :04:11.To think that this aeroplane has retired after so many flights

:04:12. > :04:15.and moving so many thousands of people around, it does

:04:16. > :04:20.This Trislander, known to many over Southampton, isn't going far.

:04:21. > :04:23.It is destined for here at the Solent Sky Museum

:04:24. > :04:26.and whilst it linked Alderney with the mainland, its connections

:04:27. > :04:30.It's very important, actually, as a local

:04:31. > :04:33.aviation story because, of course, Britten-Norman

:04:34. > :04:36.started their activities on the Isle of Wight

:04:37. > :04:38.and we have their very first aeroplane.

:04:39. > :04:41.It has almost become a part of Southampton life, if you like,

:04:42. > :04:43.and that was because of the distinctive engine noise.

:04:44. > :04:46.As soon as you heard that, you knew there was a Trislander

:04:47. > :04:49.Oscar November, as this aeroplane is known, will be on show

:04:50. > :04:55.in its new home in six to nine months.

:04:56. > :04:57.It's Good Friday of course, and worshippers at Christ Church

:04:58. > :05:01.Cathedral in Oxford have been re-enacting the Easter story.

:05:02. > :05:05.They held a procession around the cathedral,

:05:06. > :05:07.stopping to perform scenes for the public.

:05:08. > :05:10.The aim of the event was to help children to better understand

:05:11. > :05:14.the events leading up to the crucifixion.

:05:15. > :05:20.Sometimes people just go straight into Easter and they don't actually

:05:21. > :05:22.know the story of what happened at the end

:05:23. > :05:28.a way of trying to tell what is a difficult and complicated

:05:29. > :05:31.it is story in a way that is accessible and for

:05:32. > :05:39.younger people, as well as, I hope, quite moving for all ages.

:05:40. > :05:42.Onto football, and Brighton are still on track to secure

:05:43. > :05:44.automatic promotion to the Premier League

:05:45. > :05:54.and remain top of the table, after winning away to Wolves.

:05:55. > :05:56.But a win from third-place Huddersfield means guaranteed

:05:57. > :06:03.promotion spots are still too close to call.

:06:04. > :06:04.There were three games in League One.

:06:05. > :06:06.Oxford United lost 1-0 away at Bradford.

:06:07. > :06:11.Swindon managed to salvage a point at least

:06:12. > :06:14.after a goalless draw at home against AFC Wimbledon,

:06:15. > :06:25.but the Robins remain in the relegation zone.

:06:26. > :06:34.In the two of the Fort Hood. They went a goal down at Fratton Park.

:06:35. > :06:37.They had hoped to win today would secure their will then move up to

:06:38. > :06:43.lead one but Pompey are hot on their lead one but Pompey are hot on their

:06:44. > :06:44.heels in third point -- third place. Results elsewhere guarantees them a

:06:45. > :06:47.play-off place. OK, onto the weather then,

:06:48. > :06:50.and Sarah Farmer is here. Bit gloomy today, can

:06:51. > :07:05.we expect better for the rest too but certainly fresher then it

:07:06. > :07:09.was a week ago. Some outbreaks of rain, nudging themselves across our

:07:10. > :07:14.part of the world. Patchy in nature, it will tend to come and go.

:07:15. > :07:16.Clearing towards the south coast through the early hours.

:07:17. > :07:26.Temperatures down to eight or 9 degrees. We start tomorrow on a

:07:27. > :07:33.cloudy note, any remnants of that cloudy weather clearing.

:07:34. > :07:37.Temperatures up to around 12 or 13 degrees. Looking ahead to the rest

:07:38. > :07:42.of the weekend, Sunday start on a cloudy note with some rain arriving

:07:43. > :07:46.later in the day. Monday the odd shower is possible, and there may be

:07:47. > :07:53.a touch of frost on Tuesday. Rain from my Easter a camp? Thanks a lot,

:07:54. > :07:54.Sarah. We are back at 10:20pm tonight have a great evening,

:07:55. > :08:12.goodbye. To think that this time last

:08:13. > :08:18.weekend, temperatures were in the 20s. They got up to 25.5. Much

:08:19. > :08:25.cooler across the country this weekend. And this headline is true

:08:26. > :08:29.for the weather next week. That cool air stream from the north will

:08:30. > :08:35.persist. The mild air tries to get in, but never really wins. What have

:08:36. > :08:39.we got for the rest of today? The rain we had across Wales earlier

:08:40. > :08:44.will move southwards, but once the rain reaches you, it will be much

:08:45. > :08:49.lighter. Across many northern areas, the skies will clear up altogether.

:08:50. > :08:50.It will be a nippy night. Certainly a touch of frost
