:00:20. > :00:23.under the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme.

:00:24. > :00:26.In the South Today area, councils have helped just 150.

:00:27. > :00:29.60% of our councils have taken no Syrians at all,

:00:30. > :00:34.including Havant, despite the council leader saying

:00:35. > :00:38."We are really supportive of assisting where we can".

:00:39. > :00:46.So what do people in the borough think about the local response?

:00:47. > :00:49.If they are genuine refugees then more needs to be done

:00:50. > :00:52.but it needs to be proven that they are genuine refugees.

:00:53. > :00:56.I think Havant should take at least a couple of hundred.

:00:57. > :00:58.I think every council should, to be honest.

:00:59. > :01:01.We can't even help the homeless around here,

:01:02. > :01:06.or around Portsmouth, let alone refugees and all like that.

:01:07. > :01:10.People leave their families. People run away from war to Europe

:01:11. > :01:15.and it's happening again. It's not easy.

:01:16. > :01:18.Havant Council says priority must be given to local families

:01:19. > :01:24.Others are worried about who pays, although councils do get more

:01:25. > :01:27.than ?8,000 to cover the first year costs of each refugee.

:01:28. > :01:34.Argyll and Bute Council in the Scottish Highland and Islands

:01:35. > :01:41.has a population of under 90,000 thousand -

:01:42. > :01:45.has a population of under 90,000 - but it's taken 61 Syrians so far.

:01:46. > :01:47.In the South, Wiltshire has led the charge with 47

:01:48. > :01:49.and Winchester is now home to 22 refugees.

:01:50. > :01:56.Ben Moore has been to meet one family who've recently arrived.

:01:57. > :02:04.But Ahmed, his wife, and four children have been in the UK

:02:05. > :02:08.Ahmed was a carpenter in Aleppo but when the war came,

:02:09. > :02:13.We can't reveal exactly where they are living

:02:14. > :02:16.but all they have has come from the people of Wokingham.

:02:17. > :02:19.TRANSLATION: I feel comfortable and safe here and the people

:02:20. > :02:22.of Wokingham are so kind and accepting.

:02:23. > :02:25.They have given as all our furniture and they support us in every step.

:02:26. > :02:27.They've brought gifts for the children and if they ask

:02:28. > :02:29.them for anything, for any reason, they help.

:02:30. > :02:32.This is all that remains of Ahmed's house after two bombs fell on it.

:02:33. > :02:35.Two of his children were rescued after being trapped in the rubble.

:02:36. > :02:37.Afterwards, the family fled but arrived here with nothing.

:02:38. > :02:41.From a storage container, Wokingham's online women's group has

:02:42. > :02:48.The lovely people of Wokingham have given everything from pillows,

:02:49. > :02:50.to clothes, to furniture, sofas, fridges, everything

:02:51. > :02:59.There are four other Syrian families in Wokingham.

:03:00. > :03:02.This man has been here a year and helps those coming after him.

:03:40. > :03:43.Meanwhile at Ringwood in Hampshire, the council has been

:03:44. > :03:45.forced to look again at whether the town could offer

:03:46. > :03:48.Last year one councillor said that would be a

:03:49. > :03:53.But now they're reconsidering - after a petition

:03:54. > :03:56.from sixth formers in the town - who believe more should be done.

:03:57. > :04:01.A bravery award has been given to a police officer

:04:02. > :04:04.who risked his own safety to help save the life

:04:05. > :04:08.PC Stuart Dickerson was policing a Euro 2016 game in France,

:04:09. > :04:11.when England supporters were attacked by Russian hooligans.

:04:12. > :04:13.He helped medics to treat Andrew Bache, who's still struggling

:04:14. > :04:22.In Marseille, the highly organised attack which dedicated football

:04:23. > :04:26.himself in the midst of was savagely violent.

:04:27. > :04:30.Probably 150-200 Russian hooligans stormed through the square

:04:31. > :04:35.attacking any England fan they could find.

:04:36. > :04:37.There were serious injuries all over the place.

:04:38. > :04:43.Myself and colleague were attacked. We were in plain clothes.

:04:44. > :04:49.At that time, we saw French police colleagues working on an

:04:50. > :04:56.The injured man was lifelong Portsmouth supporter Andrew Bache

:04:57. > :05:01.punched, kicked and hit on the head with a metal bar.

:05:02. > :05:09.Because disorder was going on around us, bottles and chairs thrown,
