:00:10. > :00:12.Hello, I'm Anjana Gadgil with the news here in the South.

:00:13. > :00:14.17 people were taken to hospital this morning

:00:15. > :00:21.on a motorway slip road in Oxfordshire.

:00:22. > :00:24.It happened on the northbound exit at Junction 7 of the M40,

:00:25. > :00:27.Thick fog made access to the scene more difficult,

:00:28. > :00:29.and the slip road itself was closed for several hours.

:00:30. > :00:35.Passengers escaped in such a hurry they left their belongings behind.

:00:36. > :00:38.16 adults plus the coach driver were taken

:00:39. > :00:41.to the John Radcliffe Hospital after last night's crash.

:00:42. > :00:44.We had to stabilise the coach to prevent it sliding down the bank

:00:45. > :00:46.any further and from rocking from side to side,

:00:47. > :00:50.to make sure that the rescue operation was safe.

:00:51. > :00:54.Then we had to search the immediate area for anybody that may have been

:00:55. > :00:58.ejected from the vehicle, so we used thermal imaging cameras,

:00:59. > :01:01.we used some of our remote cameras we have there,

:01:02. > :01:03.we had a period of using audible detection,

:01:04. > :01:06.so we needed a certain amount of silence.

:01:07. > :01:14.when the Heathrow Express bus came off the M40 here at junction seven.

:01:15. > :01:16.It went crashing through the barriers and flipped.

:01:17. > :01:20.Certainly it would have been a chaotic scene.

:01:21. > :01:22.You've got people inside who are probably wanting to get out

:01:23. > :01:26.Also their medical welfare needs to be taken into account,

:01:27. > :01:27.and sometimes getting them out quickly

:01:28. > :01:28.isn't necessarily the best thing for them.

:01:29. > :01:35.Two things that we are looking into, obviously keeping an open mind,

:01:36. > :01:38.but the two main things are very foggy at the time and the driving

:01:39. > :01:41.conditions and the fact that the bus wouldn't normally be leaving

:01:42. > :01:44.It's not the first time a coach has veered off

:01:45. > :01:52.This on-board footage from 2010 shows the moment

:01:53. > :01:55.when an Oxford Tube bus crashed at the very same slip road.

:01:56. > :02:08.The slip road was closed while barriers were prepared here today.

:02:09. > :02:11.The Oxford Bus Company has been contacting passengers this afternoon

:02:12. > :02:13.and as foggy conditions remain, investigations are continuing

:02:14. > :02:24.to try to work out how this crash happened.

:02:25. > :02:30.The fog has caused trouble problems across the region. Full visibility

:02:31. > :02:39.on the coast affected ferry crossings. This view from Poole Bay

:02:40. > :02:44.was typical. There have been delays and cancellations on flights at

:02:45. > :02:47.Gatwick -- Gatwick, Heathrow and Southampton airports.

:02:48. > :02:49.Meanwhile, Southern Rail is warning of severe disruption

:02:50. > :02:51.as conductors stage another three-day strike.

:02:52. > :02:55.The company says some routes will have no service

:02:56. > :02:58.at all tomorrow, New Year's Day and Monday the 2nd -

:02:59. > :03:00.while the majority of others will have a very limited service.

:03:01. > :03:04.It is the biggest night out of the year but many people

:03:05. > :03:06.are going to struggle to get home afterwards,

:03:07. > :03:09.as the Southern strikes roll on into their 28th day.

:03:10. > :03:11.The RMT insist they are not trying to disrupt

:03:12. > :03:16.We did cancel the strikes on Christmas Eve

:03:17. > :03:18.and the day before, you'll recollect.

:03:19. > :03:21.We've done everything we can to recognise that the public have

:03:22. > :03:23.been wonderful in supporting our position on maintaining

:03:24. > :03:27.the safety-critical role of the guard on the train.

:03:28. > :03:30.Once again Southern say they will have to cancel

:03:31. > :03:32.around 50% of trains due to the strike.

:03:33. > :03:38.Crucially, though, they are warning anyone who is planning

:03:39. > :03:41.to use the trains to get home after a New Year's night out that

:03:42. > :03:44.many later services, in particular, will be completely cancelled.

:03:45. > :03:46.The conductors are striking over plans to give drivers responsibility

:03:47. > :03:52.changing the conductors' roles to that of an on-board supervisor.

:03:53. > :03:56.Southern said 220 conductors have signed up to the new contract

:03:57. > :03:59.and many will begin their new roles from the 1st of January.

:04:00. > :04:02.The proposals we have made are entirely reasonable.

:04:03. > :04:04.We think the union's reaction has been unreasonable

:04:05. > :04:08.We think these strikes are absolutely unnecessary

:04:09. > :04:11.and I would call upon the trade unions to call off these strikes

:04:12. > :04:16.A six-day drivers' strike is planned from January the 9th

:04:17. > :04:18.and the unions say they can't rule out further action

:04:19. > :04:33.for 2017 if an agreement isn't reached.

:04:34. > :04:43.In the championship, the game between Brighton and Reading was

:04:44. > :04:49.called off due to foggy conditions. In League 1, MK Dons twice held off

:04:50. > :04:55.a Swindon town comeback to win 3-2 and in League 2, Portsmouth played

:04:56. > :04:57.out a goalless draw in the fog at Yeovil. Christmas lights display and

:04:58. > :05:03.a Buckinghamshire village has helped raise money for a girl with a rare

:05:04. > :05:07.disorder. Frankie Ross has a syndrome which affects one in every

:05:08. > :05:14.10,000 girls. More than ?1300 is going towards health care for her.

:05:15. > :05:17.Now here is your regional weather forecast from Dan Downs.

:05:18. > :05:20.It's generally cloudy to end the year, but for most

:05:21. > :05:23.of us, it should be dry for the New Year's festivities.

:05:24. > :05:26.As we can see, there's a cold front pushing down across the country

:05:27. > :05:29.through New Year's Eve into New Year's Day but I think,

:05:30. > :05:32.for most of us, it will stay dry until at least the small hours

:05:33. > :05:35.Behind it, high pressure becomes more dominant again,

:05:36. > :05:39.keeping things dry and settled but rather cold.

:05:40. > :05:41.Tonight, we've still got some issues with fog and there is

:05:42. > :05:44.a yellow weather warning in force from the Met Office

:05:45. > :05:46.right through until ten o'clock tomorrow morning.

:05:47. > :05:49.More cloud around tonight than last night, but temperatures not always

:05:50. > :05:56.But we will see a touch of frost in places along with that fog

:05:57. > :06:02.More some breaks in it, though, at times, and foremost, it stay dry.

:06:03. > :06:05.Temperatures just about creeping into double figures for some.

:06:06. > :06:10.Into the evening, staying cloudy but, I suspect, dry for most.

:06:11. > :06:19.That rain comes through earlier on New Year's Day and when it

:06:20. > :06:35.That's all from us for this evening. Have a happy New Year. Goodbye.

:06:36. > :06:42.Good evening. Looking ahead to 2017 it looks like we will start off on a

:06:43. > :06:47.cold note. This weather front will move south in the next day or so

:06:48. > :06:51.bringing rain with it, but also much colder air following a lull behind.

:06:52. > :06:56.It will sweep the fog away. It's grey for some places this afternoon.

:06:57. > :07:00.You could hardly see across the river in the Greater London area.

:07:01. > :07:02.Met Office warnings are in force.
