:00:00. > :00:00.Hello and welcome to South Today, I'm Jo Kent.

:00:00. > :00:00.Another day - another strike on Southern Rail -

:00:07. > :00:13.now the company tells the union - we'll see you in court.

:00:14. > :00:16.Bedtime battles - behind the scenes at the special clinic treating

:00:17. > :00:34.And tomorrow the chance of some snow. The details shortly.

:00:35. > :00:37.The owner of Southern rail says it will take the drivers union Aslef

:00:38. > :00:39.to the Supreme Court over its industrial action.

:00:40. > :00:42.A second day of drivers strikes draws to a close tonight but there's

:00:43. > :00:45.another walkout planned for Friday with almost all 2,200 services

:00:46. > :00:49.But the union says its concerns are over passenger safety.

:00:50. > :00:59.What do we know about the court case?

:01:00. > :01:01.Southern's owner Govia Thameslink Railway believes it has a case

:01:02. > :01:05.And that's why it's prepared to continue its legal claim

:01:06. > :01:08.despite losing a court case and an appeal last year.

:01:09. > :01:10.Southern wants to replace conductors with 'on board supervisors'.

:01:11. > :01:12.The trains would become Driver Only Operated

:01:13. > :01:17.meaning the drivers open and close the doors.

:01:18. > :01:20.DOO is already in use on three quarters of Southern Trains.

:01:21. > :01:22.But the general secretary of Aslef explained why the union

:01:23. > :01:37.wasn't opposed then - but is now.

:01:38. > :01:43.When it was short trains and the creased football it was little sleep

:01:44. > :01:49.different railway. With longer trains, with nobody doing the

:01:50. > :01:51.critical role, it is unsafe. Are we likely to see them around

:01:52. > :01:54.the negotiating table this week? The unions and Southern say

:01:55. > :01:56.nothing is planned - but both sides say they're

:01:57. > :01:58.open to talks. However both also say

:01:59. > :02:10.they won't back down. This we are looking for talks with

:02:11. > :02:13.the union, setting around the table for a sensible conversation were

:02:14. > :02:18.both sides listen to each other and really understand the concerns. The

:02:19. > :02:24.unions say it is concern for safety but last week the railways

:02:25. > :02:25.Inspectorate said the way we are operating is perfectly safe and it

:02:26. > :02:26.is a safe method of operation. Darren Ball travels

:02:27. > :02:30.from Haywards Heath to London Bridge and says his personal

:02:31. > :02:41.and professional relationships I think I'd stretched the goodwill

:02:42. > :02:47.of my bosses and managing director as much as I can in order to have as

:02:48. > :02:50.many work from home base as possible, and my relationship with

:02:51. > :02:52.my partner and my stepson. They don't know what time I will get

:02:53. > :02:53.home. And there's more to come -

:02:54. > :02:55.tomorrow is unlikely Friday is a strike day -

:02:56. > :02:59.and there are three more A controversial proposal to raise

:03:00. > :03:03.the salary of the chief executive of Arun district council by nearly

:03:04. > :03:05.6% has been approved The council says that the increase,

:03:06. > :03:09.to just over ?117,000, will bring Nigel Lynn's pay more

:03:10. > :03:11.into line with comparable councils and includes

:03:12. > :03:13.a performance related award. Critics argued it's unfair at a time

:03:14. > :03:16.when many other council employees are seeing a 1% increase

:03:17. > :03:38.in their pay. The CEO does a marvellous job, but

:03:39. > :03:42.staff do a very good job as well and they have taken on, some have taken

:03:43. > :03:49.on, ate lots more, because of what has happened with the cutbacks. It

:03:50. > :03:50.is a case of is that fear? At this time it is not clear and I don't

:03:51. > :03:51.think it is right. Now, I hope you can

:03:52. > :03:54.stay awake for this - Figures show in the year

:03:55. > :03:57.leading up to August 2013 - sleep disorders accounted for more

:03:58. > :04:00.than 30,000 hospital admissions. Of those, the problems were highest

:04:01. > :04:02.in children under four - they accounted for more than one

:04:03. > :04:04.in ten cases. BBC South has had special access to

:04:05. > :04:07.the work of Southampton Childrens' It's just for children,

:04:08. > :04:11.and sees around 400 patients a year, Imogen has a typical

:04:12. > :04:29.bed time routine. She however wakes repeatedly

:04:30. > :04:34.through the night. She sleepwalks around the house

:04:35. > :04:47.and frightens her parents. Even though her eyes

:04:48. > :04:49.are wide-open, she is sat bolt She walked down the stairs,

:04:50. > :04:53.completely asleep. Southampton's specialist sleep

:04:54. > :04:55.service treat children with complex sleeping disorders,

:04:56. > :05:01.the hardest cases. By the time we see these families,

:05:02. > :05:05.quite often those problems have been The parents have forgotten

:05:06. > :05:21.what it is like to sleep. Cathy is quick to diagnose

:05:22. > :05:23.Imogen with behavioural Children will have a night terror

:05:24. > :05:27.or sleepwalk within one or two hours of falling asleep,

:05:28. > :05:29.and what is happening is that the child's brain is half

:05:30. > :05:32.asleep and half awake, so it will do complex things

:05:33. > :05:34.like walk around, climb, but they have no memory of it or no

:05:35. > :05:52.awareness of what they are doing. Some of her other patients don't

:05:53. > :05:59.need help with sweeping but with being awake. Falling asleep as soon

:06:00. > :06:05.as they got in the car, at home at odd times or in weird places.

:06:06. > :06:10.Her narcolepsy need careful management.

:06:11. > :06:14.A unique condition called cataplexy has been harder to solve.

:06:15. > :06:16.She collapses, she drops things, she cannot hold onto anything,

:06:17. > :06:21.Her head will go and she would just collapse and she slurs her words,

:06:22. > :06:28.It is what is, it makes who she is, and there is nothing we can do

:06:29. > :06:36.Six weeks on, Imogen and her family have made progress.

:06:37. > :06:40.You might not have heard of them but sleep fairies are everywhere.

:06:41. > :06:45.I just want to say well done for good sleeping.

:06:46. > :06:54.Cathy has suggested Imogen should have happened sleep very.

:06:55. > :06:56.She visits at night-time when Imogen sleeps well,

:06:57. > :07:00.I have had to be a bit more strict bedtime.

:07:01. > :07:03.The last couple of weeks have been great so we're doing really well.

:07:04. > :07:10.Onto football, and a big night for Southampton at St Mary's

:07:11. > :07:13.in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi final against Liverpool.

:07:14. > :07:16.Saints won the match 1-0, but with a second leg to come

:07:17. > :07:18.at Anfield, they still have plenty of work to do.

:07:19. > :07:21.Kris Temple is at St Mary's - Kris, it sounds harsh -

:07:22. > :07:41.With a home advantage they had to have something to take to Anfield.

:07:42. > :07:45.They won 1-0 as you say but had the chance to win by more, even by four

:07:46. > :07:49.if they were being clinical. Saints took the lead against the run

:07:50. > :07:52.of play after 20 minutes - a defensive mistake by Liverpool led

:07:53. > :07:55.to a chance, and a goal And just before half time Tadic

:07:56. > :07:59.set Redmond up again - Chances for Saints continued to come

:08:00. > :08:03.in the second half - full back Cedric missed a great

:08:04. > :08:05.chance to double the And with seven minutes left,

:08:06. > :08:09.Shane Long set up Redmond, So Saints take a 1-0

:08:10. > :08:25.lead to Anfield. Much better and hopefully we can do

:08:26. > :08:28.the same in a fortnight's time. Should have had more than one but

:08:29. > :08:34.they should have had more than one as well. Amazing, I am Brazilian

:08:35. > :08:39.select is new to me and I am here with my friends, an amazing game.

:08:40. > :08:42.The first half was fantastic in the second half I enjoyed a lot. We had

:08:43. > :08:49.a draw at the weekend and got a win, a draw at the weekend and got a win,

:08:50. > :08:56.come on, you read six the one thing it did tonight was restore some

:08:57. > :08:59.positivity. It has been a bit of a rotten run for the team but with the

:09:00. > :09:05.carrot of a possible trip to Wembley to come, and don't forget Saints

:09:06. > :09:09.haven't been in the League Cup final since 1979 saw a lot of history to

:09:10. > :09:14.be made up for. They go to Anfield in a good position and we will be

:09:15. > :09:14.following them all the way to Merseyside.

:09:15. > :09:16.That's all from the South Today news team this evening.

:09:17. > :09:19.We're back tomorrow with bulletins in BBC Breakfast and there's more

:09:20. > :09:35.The potential for some snow in some parts tomorrow. Overnight it will be

:09:36. > :09:39.mainly dry but a key north-easterly wind will make it feel a lot colder.

:09:40. > :09:44.In sheltered spots we may have little bit of a frost, the

:09:45. > :09:47.temperature falling to around freezing, this is the temperature in

:09:48. > :09:50.our towns and cities. A dry and bright start with the cloud

:09:51. > :09:53.increasing quickly through the morning and the Met office have

:09:54. > :09:59.issued a yellow Snow warning through the course of the day. The risk of

:10:00. > :10:02.heavy snow which may lead to ice tomorrow night so stay tuned to your

:10:03. > :10:07.local BBC radio station. Through the course of tomorrow morning the rain

:10:08. > :10:11.arrives and the temperature arrives with the rain's arrival but the

:10:12. > :10:14.northerly wind will settle in the coming rain to snow in some places

:10:15. > :10:21.and the rain will be very intense with it is not following Arsenal, so

:10:22. > :10:24.torrential downpours leading to an inch of rain and around an hour with

:10:25. > :10:28.the chance of some snowfall likely for northern parts and we're not out

:10:29. > :10:32.of the woods until Friday morning when there is the risk also of some

:10:33. > :10:36.snowfall moving down to the south of the country, for parts of West

:10:37. > :10:40.Sussex and eastern parts of Hampshire and Berkshire. The

:10:41. > :10:44.northerly winds will begin today the later part of Friday and ice will be

:10:45. > :10:51.a big issue both tomorrow night and through Friday daytime. The snowfall

:10:52. > :10:59.falling on frozen ground. Some snowfall tomorrow, a risk

:11:00. > :11:00.particularly tomorrow evening when the temperature plunges.

:11:01. > :11:03.start to the weekend. Time for the national weather prospects if you

:11:04. > :11:12.are on the move. Good evening, a lot going on with

:11:13. > :11:15.the weather in the next few days, numerous weather warnings in for so

:11:16. > :11:19.buried in mind if you have travel plans. Lots of isobars on the chart

:11:20. > :11:22.overnight which means it will be windy for all. The strongest winds

:11:23. > :11:25.in Scotland, lots of wintry showers with snow getting down to

:11:26. > :11:29.increasingly low levels and some wintry showers in Northern Ireland

:11:30. > :11:32.and northern England. A cold night for Northern England, particularly

:11:33. > :11:38.in more rural spots, frosty and I see for some and some of the snow

:11:39. > :11:40.really blowing around over higher ground in Scotland. Strong wind and

:11:41. > :11:44.further snow to take us into tomorrow. It may well make for some

:11:45. > :11:46.tricky travelling conditions. The forecast for tomorrow in the

:11:47. > :11:51.southern half of the UK's quite tricky. We have got mild air bumping

:11:52. > :11:53.into colder air. The boundary between the two,
