:00:38. > :00:44.In fact, in the three months after last year's EU referendum,
:00:45. > :00:47.Dorset had the highest percentage increase in the whole
:00:48. > :01:00.Hampshire and Sussex went up by 33 and 32% respectively
:01:01. > :01:08.Our Home Affairs Correspondent Emma Vardy reports.
:01:09. > :01:12.This was the moment a man was hit with a plank of wood in Bournemouth.
:01:13. > :01:16.His attacker shouted "Speak English!"
:01:17. > :01:19.This extreme incident, was one of an increasing number
:01:20. > :01:21.of hate crimes recorded by Dorset Police last year.
:01:22. > :01:24.There was a handful of incidents that we think could have been
:01:25. > :01:25.directly linked to the referendum results.
:01:26. > :01:27.We see a connection between hate crime taking place and
:01:28. > :01:37.Last year, Victim Support says it helps
:01:38. > :01:38.more than 16,000 victims of
:01:39. > :01:41.hate crime across England and Wales and saw a spike in the immediate
:01:42. > :01:46.But there was also noticeable increases
:01:47. > :01:50.following the terror attacks in Paris and Nice.
:01:51. > :01:53.Most incidents are much less serious than the attack in Bournemouth,
:01:54. > :01:55.and police say that they're receiving historical reports too,
:01:56. > :02:06.Attacks amongst Muslim communities are also a concern for police.
:02:07. > :02:09.A group of boys came up to me and started
:02:10. > :02:11.telling me to get out of the
:02:12. > :02:16.At the Bournemouth Islamic Centre, they say hate incidents
:02:17. > :02:20.have not been a problem, but that the Brexit debate
:02:21. > :02:27.We did not see an increase in hate crime or anything that tells us it
:02:28. > :02:33.was a difference before and after Brexit.
:02:34. > :02:35.Some argue the result of Brexit means equities are
:02:36. > :02:44.It is maybe something that was not visible for us and the way their
:02:45. > :02:47.whole process was conducted has highlighted the issues we have
:02:48. > :02:54.A human rights organisation has said the country
:02:55. > :02:55.should prepare for the
:02:56. > :02:57.possibility of further spikes in offences once
:02:58. > :03:06.Hampshire Police have in the last half an hour said they're seriously
:03:07. > :03:10.concerned for the welfare of a ten-year-old girl who failed
:03:11. > :03:15.Shay Stainer from Fareham was last seen at 3.10pm
:03:16. > :03:17.this afternoon in Denmead Park in Waterlooville.

:03:33. > :03:34.Commuters on Southern Rail face another day
:03:35. > :03:37.It follows the acrimonious breakdown of talks yesterday,
:03:38. > :03:40.that were aimed at finding a resolution between the RMT Union
:03:41. > :03:44.RMT members will walk out for 24 hours on Wednesday next week,
:03:45. > :03:51.claiming that driver-only operation of trains is unsafe.
:03:52. > :03:54.We are still fighting to get every rule a safety critical rule and
:03:55. > :03:56.ensure there's a guard on every train.
:03:57. > :03:58.Disabled passengers have told us several times, we've been
:03:59. > :04:01.inundated with phone calls and it's already impossible for them to plan
:04:02. > :04:04.a journey, because there are not enough people on the stations and
:04:05. > :04:06.not enough people on the train to get them access.
:04:07. > :04:09.The fight goes on, as far as we are concerned.

:04:11. > :04:15.What's the reaction tonight to this latest strike?
:04:16. > :04:20.In a statement the Chief Operating Officer of their
:04:21. > :04:23.parent company said: "We are disappointed that the RMT
:04:24. > :04:25."is going to heap yet further misery and disruption on the
:04:26. > :04:29."We aim to run as full a service as we can."
:04:30. > :04:32.During the last conductors strike, on 23rd January, Southern says it
:04:33. > :04:34.ran around three-quarters of its normal service.
:04:35. > :04:38.But industrial action by the RMT is now into its eleventh month
:04:39. > :04:41.and commuters we spoke to in Shoreham this evening
:04:42. > :04:47.were clearly exasperated that no end's in sight.
:04:48. > :04:51.But it is disrupting everyone's lives.
:04:52. > :04:56.I think we've become a little bit impervious to this.
:04:57. > :04:58.It is more of the same, but that's very
:04:59. > :05:05.We are moving to Hayward's Heath on the back of what
:05:06. > :05:12.A conclusion needs to be made one way or another and quickly.
:05:13. > :05:15.Because there's only so much that people can take.
:05:16. > :05:18.The other union that's been involved in this dispute
:05:19. > :05:19.is the train drivers' union, Aslef.
:05:20. > :05:22.And tomorrow we'll find out if their action
:05:23. > :05:27.Yes, after eleven days of talks, Southern and Aslef
:05:28. > :05:30.reached an agreement - Aslef is now balloting its members
:05:31. > :05:33.Significantly that agreement WILL allow Southern to run trains
:05:34. > :05:35.without a guard or onboard supervisor, under certain
:05:36. > :05:37.circumstances, such as when someone is taken ill or delayed
:05:38. > :05:43.We understand there's some resentment among Aslef
:05:44. > :05:45.members at that deal, so it's certainly not clear-cut,
:05:46. > :05:50.and the RMT have described it as a betrayal.
:05:51. > :05:52.We'll find out the result of that Aslef ballot
:05:53. > :06:06.The family of Kaden Reddick, who died after an accident
:06:07. > :06:08.at a Topshop store in Reading, said today "he was a loving, cheeky,
:06:09. > :06:11."energetic boy" whose death would leave a huge empty hole
:06:12. > :06:14.10-year-old Kaden suffered fatal head injuries in the incident
:06:15. > :06:17.Today Topshop removed similar units from all its stores
:06:18. > :06:20.The shop in the Oracle Centre remains closed
:06:21. > :06:26.An independent review is to be carried out into concerns
:06:27. > :06:28.about bullying and harassment at the South East Coast
:06:29. > :06:32.Yesterday, we reported on claims by the GMB union that staff handling
:06:33. > :06:34.999 calls had been subjected to shocking levels of bullying.
:06:35. > :06:36.The Trust has appointed an expert in workplace conflict
:06:37. > :06:52."A very steep downward spiral," the words of one military veteran
:06:53. > :06:54.who found himself with mental health and drug issues after
:06:55. > :07:07.There are, in fact, between 3,500 and 5,000 veterans incarcerated
:07:08. > :07:12.Now a Hampshire charity has called on the Government to do more to help
:07:13. > :07:17.A middle-aged military veteran who, a fortnight ago,
:07:18. > :07:21.He spent nearly a decade behind bars for a serious and violent
:07:22. > :07:26.Because he's trying to turn his life around,
:07:27. > :07:31.Everything just exploded one day and the support that I had,
:07:32. > :07:35.The substance abuse became worse and it then became a very steep
:07:36. > :07:48.He's being helped by Hampshire charity Care after Combat,
:07:49. > :07:51.who've put him up in this home while he finds his feet.
:07:52. > :07:56.But why do service personnel need extra support?
:07:57. > :07:58.Coming from the service life myself it's just they've
:07:59. > :08:02.The impact can be just straight-forward things -
:08:03. > :08:11.It's always been done for them within the service
:08:12. > :08:18.I think the public say, "OK, mate, you're a veteran, you've screwed up,
:08:19. > :08:20.you're going to get another chance, care after combat, we're not
:08:21. > :08:24.going to give you a handout, we're not going to spoon-feed you -
:08:25. > :08:27.If you're not going to work, off you go."
:08:28. > :08:30.The charity has had great success using ex-military mentors to help
:08:31. > :08:33.people back to civilian life, but it's also warning there are too
:08:34. > :08:35.many veteran groups all trying to do the same thing.
:08:36. > :08:38.We sent them away, we should deal with the consequences
:08:39. > :08:43.I believe that with so many charities pushing their services
:08:44. > :08:45.onto the veterans, A, it is confusing,
:08:46. > :08:48.and B, they might think, hang on a minute, if I'm
:08:49. > :08:50.playing my cards right here, I don't have to go to work.
:08:51. > :08:54.We don't really want to kill a veteran with kindness.
:08:55. > :08:57.They want just a level playing field.
:08:58. > :09:00.They have served the country and is now they can serve it again
:09:01. > :09:04.Steve says he's lucky he has found the help he needs,
:09:05. > :09:06.and is looking forward to turning his life around.
:09:07. > :09:10.I feel that I've served my sentence and now it's time to rebuild.
:09:11. > :09:12.Everything they're giving me now, I'm going to pay them back
