:00:14. > :00:16.Hello and welcome to South Today, I'm Edward Sault.

:00:17. > :00:18.The top stories this evening: All eyes on June the 8th -

:00:19. > :00:21.Seven weeks of campaigning from MP's who want to keep their seats

:00:22. > :00:31.Will a stab collection finally make an elected Prime Minister?

:00:32. > :00:33.Plus the disappearing act of the coach company that's taken

:00:34. > :00:36.bookings but left customers like these swimmers high and dry.

:00:37. > :00:40.And a good deal of dry weather this week with some sunshine and the

:00:41. > :00:49.weather for the week ahead shortly. In tonight's programme,

:00:50. > :00:51.reaction from the South to this morning's announcement

:00:52. > :00:53.from the Prime Minister, Teresa May. We will be voting in

:00:54. > :00:56.a General Election on June the 8th. It follows the vote for Brexit

:00:57. > :00:58.which split the South, And we face seven weeks

:00:59. > :01:01.of campaigning from MPs who want to keep their seats

:01:02. > :01:04.in southern constituencies. Our political editor, Peter Henley,

:01:05. > :01:07.has spent the day in the prime Across the South -

:01:08. > :01:23.as at Westminster - The call for a snap election has

:01:24. > :01:30.been the only conversation for commuters. They set off to work this

:01:31. > :01:31.morning completely unaware of the prospect of seven weeks of

:01:32. > :01:31.campaigning. Across the South -

:01:32. > :01:33.as at Westminster - news of the snap election came

:01:34. > :01:46.as a surprise. I just have that on the news, I was

:01:47. > :01:54.absolutely staggered. I can't really see the reason why. She's only just

:01:55. > :01:58.got in. I think it's a good thing. After the Brexit thing, people don't

:01:59. > :02:00.have a chance to have their say. And here in Theresa May's own safe

:02:01. > :02:03.seat of Maidenhead the local conservative group had no idea

:02:04. > :02:13.it was coming. I didn't know what to expect and I

:02:14. > :02:17.just thought, it's got to be serious because Prime ministers don't make

:02:18. > :02:18.announcements from the steps of number ten unless they are serious.

:02:19. > :02:23.And other Berkshire MPs agree it's the right move.

:02:24. > :02:28.It's very important to have that strong backing in parliament to make

:02:29. > :02:33.sure gales can't be turned down at the last minute and make sure the

:02:34. > :02:38.Prime Minister's hand isn't forced at any stage of the negotiation. She

:02:39. > :02:39.has to be any strong position to make sure we get the best Britain.

:02:40. > :02:42.However, a former Reading MP - this time a Labour one -

:02:43. > :02:45.thinks the hastily called vote could backfire.

:02:46. > :02:50.ID Tech no appetite out there for a snap general election. We've just

:02:51. > :02:58.come through a very divisive referendum. This is a con job,

:02:59. > :02:59.political opportunism by the Conservative Party, and I think it

:03:00. > :03:01.could come back to bite them. Labour will be hoping

:03:02. > :03:03.to pick up votes in Reading where they run the council -

:03:04. > :03:06.but first they need candidates - neither of the town's

:03:07. > :03:08.two seats has one yet. And the Liberal Democrats will have

:03:09. > :03:11.to get moving to select a candidate in Eastleigh,

:03:12. > :03:13.where in 2015 they lost their seat Nationally, the Lib Dems are banking

:03:14. > :03:27.on bagging Remain voters to secure This we have a big debate about

:03:28. > :03:31.whether we're in the single market are not and that matters for jobs

:03:32. > :03:36.and investment particularly in places that have strong

:03:37. > :03:39.manufacturing sector base. That is why we need more liberal Democrats

:03:40. > :03:40.in Parliament fighting the case for a sensible future for this country.

:03:41. > :03:43.The Lib Dems are confident they can mobilise Eastleigh's voters,

:03:44. > :03:45.despite constituents here voting to leave the EU.

:03:46. > :03:48.It's possible today's announcement may not be the only surprise

:03:49. > :04:06.Theresa May may think she has long fitted labour and it'll be a

:04:07. > :04:11.divisive business but one thing we may get from this is clarity over

:04:12. > :04:14.Brexit. Each party will have to nail colours to the mast and we will have

:04:15. > :04:15.a better idea of what they are looking for.

:04:16. > :04:18.Two men from Dorset have been sent to prison for filming themselves

:04:19. > :04:20.having sex with a teenage girl, and then publishing

:04:21. > :04:25.24-year-old Connor Hayes from Bournemouth and William Wright,

:04:26. > :04:29.who's also 24, from Bovington, have been jailed for two years

:04:30. > :04:31.for the offence which dates back to November 2015.

:04:32. > :04:33.The pair have also been handed a Sexual Harm Prevention

:04:34. > :04:38.A Hampshire swimming club claims it's been left high and dry

:04:39. > :04:41.by a coach company that appears to have gone into liquidation.

:04:42. > :04:43.Victory Travel in Portchester has disappeared after taking

:04:44. > :04:45.bookings and then failing to provide transport.

:04:46. > :04:56.These young athletes from Havant Waterlooville Swimming Club

:04:57. > :04:58.are destined for a three-day intensive swimming session that

:04:59. > :05:05.Just days ago, the coach operator, Victory Travel,

:05:06. > :05:07.suddenly disappeared, leaving them ?500 out

:05:08. > :05:12.of pocket, and no way of getting to Crystal Palace.

:05:13. > :05:20.Then we found out at the last minute, no reply.

:05:21. > :05:23.Obviously, this left us a bit in the lurch.

:05:24. > :05:25.It's unprofessional, and when you've got kids' wishes

:05:26. > :05:29.and dreams and goals here, I think they should have stepped up

:05:30. > :05:35.Not having on-course training will effect us badly,

:05:36. > :05:38.because it's part of our important schedule, because that is

:05:39. > :05:41.the pool we race in, and it will impact us massively.

:05:42. > :05:44.After lots of ringing around and another coach bill,

:05:45. > :05:46.Pete's Airlink Minibus has stepped in as a last-minute replacement

:05:47. > :05:55.Just one of many clients who claim they've been left stranded.

:05:56. > :05:57.We've come along to the registered address here in Portchester,

:05:58. > :06:07.The firm that shares the building says the company has closed down,

:06:08. > :06:10.and that we're not the first people to come looking for the director

:06:11. > :06:14.We've made a number of attempts to contact Paul Donald,

:06:15. > :06:16.but tonight our calls and e-mails remain unanswered.

:06:17. > :06:17.And the company's website hasn't been operational

:06:18. > :06:21.Hampshire Trading Standards is urging anyone affected to contact

:06:22. > :06:28.the Citizens Advice consumer helpline.

:06:29. > :06:31.The celebrations continue in Portsmouth and Brighton this

:06:32. > :06:34.evening after both football teams clinched promotion at the same time.

:06:35. > :06:36.For Brighton, it means elevation to the biggest league in the world.

:06:37. > :06:39.For Portsmouth, promotion may be only the first step back

:06:40. > :06:41.to the Premier League, but it was just

:06:42. > :06:44.And for both sets of supporters, it's a well-deserved

:06:45. > :06:46.reward for refusing to let their respective clubs die.

:06:47. > :07:01.Here's Our Sports Editor Tony Husband.

:07:02. > :07:10.at Brighton, they flopped onto the pitch at 5pm yesterday. Promotion

:07:11. > :07:14.inevitable after the latest win but when they are rivals Huddersfield

:07:15. > :07:24.only drew two hours later, promotion was confirmed. Cue another party.

:07:25. > :07:29.Testament really to what the players have given and achieved all season,

:07:30. > :07:32.and also at this stage of the season, to put the run together that

:07:33. > :07:37.we have at this stage of the season is incredibly difficult. That said,

:07:38. > :07:42.we had in the premiership now, Arent we? We have struggled long and hard

:07:43. > :07:45.and I don't think we ever thought and I don't think we ever thought

:07:46. > :07:51.we'd see the day. We have lost generations of fans along the way

:07:52. > :07:53.and a lot of tears were shed yesterday by supporters who had

:07:54. > :08:02.loved ones that hadn't seen the dream becomes reality. Brighton's

:08:03. > :08:06.resurgence is echoed along the coast, 5000 Portsmouth fans

:08:07. > :08:10.celebrated League 2 promotion. It means the road back from football

:08:11. > :08:15.oblivion has started for a club saved by its bands four years ago,

:08:16. > :08:19.almost bankrupt in 2010. Ironically they have choice again, to accept or

:08:20. > :08:30.reject the investment of billionaire reject the investment of billionaire

:08:31. > :08:37.ex-Disney CEO Michael Eisner. It is for the fans and that the decide to

:08:38. > :08:42.hand it on to Michael Eisner it will be with everyone's best wishes and

:08:43. > :08:44.for him to carry us on to where we deserve to beat. The fans are on the

:08:45. > :08:45.right road for now. That's all from the South Today

:08:46. > :08:47.news team this evening. We're back tomorrow with bulletins

:08:48. > :08:50.in BBC Breakfast and there's more Here with our regional

:08:51. > :09:04.weather forecast is Alexis. It's getting colder, almost time for

:09:05. > :09:14.the thermals! We are expecting frost in places. The week as a whole, it

:09:15. > :09:19.will be mainly dry, one North two isolated showers but not a lot of

:09:20. > :09:22.rain to talk of an bird will be some bright and sunny spells. Clear skies

:09:23. > :09:27.and light winds overnight mean the temperature will follow a rapidly to

:09:28. > :09:37.-4 in the countryside, usual cold spots. Elsewhere, laws of the- five

:09:38. > :09:42.and the winds will be like tomorrow as well. Through the day, after a

:09:43. > :09:46.frost the amnesty starting places, lots of sunshine although the

:09:47. > :09:50.sunshine will come hazy through the course of the afternoon with high

:09:51. > :09:56.and medium cloud filling in. The temperature reaching a high of 13 in

:09:57. > :10:00.any sheltered spots and these are places with a slight breeze. The

:10:01. > :10:03.breeze could be slightly stronger for the Isle of Wight and the south

:10:04. > :10:09.coast. The cloud will increase tomorrow night with one North two

:10:10. > :10:11.clear spells but also the chance of patchy, light rain at times and the

:10:12. > :10:17.temperature tomorrow night not as low as to make, down to 6-7,

:10:18. > :10:21.slightly lower in the countryside. Thursday we see a good deal of

:10:22. > :10:26.cloud, one or two brighter spells and maybe a frosty start and some

:10:27. > :10:32.showers but not a lot of rain to talk all. The mainly dry day with
