:00:00. > :00:00.Hello and good afternoon, I'm Tom Hepworth.

:00:00. > :00:10.Employers are urged to help staff give up smoking tobacco by allowing

:00:11. > :00:17.A local film maker helps an Oxfordshire

:00:18. > :00:22.And - unseen history, rare footage of the network

:00:23. > :00:38.of railways that once covered the Isle of Wight.

:00:39. > :00:41.There are calls for employers in the south to review policies

:00:42. > :00:44.on smoking to encourage staff who want to give up tobacco

:00:45. > :00:53.Public Health England says so called "vaping" has helped more

:00:54. > :00:55.than a million people stop smoking cigarettes and firms should make

:00:56. > :01:06.Phil from Southampton was a smoker for 24 years before he discovered

:01:07. > :01:11.e-cigarettes two years ago and he got a surprise when he went to his

:01:12. > :01:16.GP... I said I had stopped smoking a year or so ago, he said that I was

:01:17. > :01:20.now a nonsmoker. Since then, my life insurance forms have been filled out

:01:21. > :01:25.as a nonsmoker, which is brilliant from my point of view, saving me a

:01:26. > :01:32.fortune! Public Health England estimates that vaping is 95% less

:01:33. > :01:35.harmful than smoking. Last year guidelines were issued for employers

:01:36. > :01:43.who said that they should support people wanting to quit. But, Phil's

:01:44. > :01:49.employer, like most of the South, does not support the distinction. It

:01:50. > :01:53.is classed the same as smoking, we smoke in the same shade as the

:01:54. > :01:58.smokers and so forth, it is the same, they do not see a difference.

:01:59. > :02:01.I am getting second-hand smoke, which may not be the best thing in

:02:02. > :02:06.the history of the universe given that I am vaping now. But the chair

:02:07. > :02:13.of the Royal can tube GPs has said that vaping should be banned in

:02:14. > :02:22.public places and should not be seen as a choice -- Royal Oak on a dude

:02:23. > :02:27.GPs. Daily, people are mesmerised, I don't know how quickly it will

:02:28. > :02:32.change but it has two. For the time being, anyone wanting to make an

:02:33. > :02:37.informed decision may find that the decision has been clouded.

:02:38. > :02:40.Train drivers on Southern Railway have cut their strike next week

:02:41. > :02:43.But as Alsef union members will stop work on Tuesday,

:02:44. > :02:45.Wednesday and Friday, services will still be disrupted

:02:46. > :03:00.The union has also announced a further three days

:03:01. > :03:03.Southern says its a cynical ploy to reduce the impact

:03:04. > :03:09.It will lay on 200 buses on each strike day.

:03:10. > :03:11.A non-league footballer's apologised for mocking Bournemouth player

:03:12. > :03:13.Harry Arter over the death of his baby daughter.

:03:14. > :03:16.The FA will investigate Hitchin Town player Alfie Barker who made

:03:17. > :03:18.the remarks on Twitter after the Cherries lost a three goal

:03:19. > :03:22.Renee Arter was stillborn in December 2015, the Bournemouth

:03:23. > :03:25.player says there isn't a day that goes by without him thinking of her.

:03:26. > :03:28.The family of a mother accused of plotting to topple the Iranian

:03:29. > :03:30.government expect a court will hear her appeal later.

:03:31. > :03:32.Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is a British-Iranian charity worker

:03:33. > :03:38.Her husband Richard, whose family lives in Fleet in Hampshire,

:03:39. > :03:43.says their daughter Gabriella is having to cope without her mum.

:03:44. > :03:50.She is getting older, and as she does, she asks questions about when

:03:51. > :03:55.we are going back to London, where is daddy, where is money? She talks

:03:56. > :04:00.about prisoners in money's bedroom. -- where is my mummy. She is loved

:04:01. > :04:03.and well looked after. Many of us imagine at some point

:04:04. > :04:06.being a star in our own film. It's an ambition Sarah Chandler

:04:07. > :04:08.from Kingston Bagpuize in Oxfordshire certainly has,

:04:09. > :04:11.but she cant speak and has That didn't stop her though -

:04:12. > :04:15.with the help of her parents, carers and a local film maker, she's

:04:16. > :04:18.starred in a short music video. Following two devastating strokes

:04:19. > :04:26.as a child, Sarah now lives with static dystonic quadriplegia

:04:27. > :04:31.and a complete Eye-gaze technology is helping

:04:32. > :04:44.her express herself. My best friend is my

:04:45. > :04:46.mum, she is lush! I programmed that last week, I have

:04:47. > :04:57.to take the credit for that one! But it was the chance to play Ariel

:04:58. > :05:01.along side of her parents and carers, that has been a real dream

:05:02. > :05:03.come true for Sarah. I really enjoyed making

:05:04. > :05:07.The Little Mermaid We spent the day dressing up

:05:08. > :05:11.and Sarah was on a beanbag, so it meant she got some

:05:12. > :05:13.physiotherapy, getting out It was so much fun, everybody can be

:05:14. > :05:19.involved and the families can be Sarah's support workers

:05:20. > :05:23.both took it in turns. I call it the Pea,

:05:24. > :05:26.but it is the green suit, all over They were around Sarah as Flounder,

:05:27. > :05:30.and I was able to take that It's 50 years since the last British

:05:31. > :05:47.rail steam train ran Today there's just one short line

:05:48. > :05:51.from Ryde Pier to Shanklin. But the railways used

:05:52. > :05:53.to crisscross the island. With archive film you've

:05:54. > :05:55.never seen before, our Transport Correspondent Paul Clifton

:05:56. > :05:58.looks at how the end of the steam The Isle of Wight once had

:05:59. > :06:02.55 miles of railways. This is 1928, when trains linked

:06:03. > :06:06.most towns and villages. From the 1950s onwards,

:06:07. > :06:13.the lines gradually closed. At the end of 1966, Ventnor died

:06:14. > :06:23.because the line from Ryde to Ventnor served the principal

:06:24. > :06:25.holiday resorts on the island, Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor -

:06:26. > :06:28.and it took Ventnor about 30 years to reinvent itself to become

:06:29. > :06:33.a destination once again. If you look carefully,

:06:34. > :06:39.evidence of the old railways A platform that hasn't

:06:40. > :06:48.seen trains in decades. Once called Whitwell Station,

:06:49. > :06:53.here it is in 1897. After 104 years, the last steam

:06:54. > :07:00.train ran on New Year's Eve, 1966. The trains were probably much more

:07:01. > :07:08.busy than an average house on New Year's Eve,

:07:09. > :07:10.and as ever, people were very much coming

:07:11. > :07:17.for their last trip of an era. In reality, the island has

:07:18. > :07:19.two heritage railways. Unlikely survivors

:07:20. > :07:22.from the island's past. And there are no firm

:07:23. > :07:33.plans to update it. They look like a very comfortable

:07:34. > :07:37.carriages, don't they? And you can see Paul's feature

:07:38. > :07:50.length report on the BBC Good afternoon, it was quite a

:07:51. > :07:54.cloudy morning for most but not all of us, a better chance this

:07:55. > :07:57.afternoon of seeing sunny spells coming through. Pretty but great

:07:58. > :08:02.looking photos from Weather Watchers, this is a nice scene,

:08:03. > :08:06.aside from that cloud! That was Hungerford. That cloud is thanks to

:08:07. > :08:10.this weather front pushing its way through but has it for years, there

:08:11. > :08:14.will be brighter skies coming in and some colder air coming into night,

:08:15. > :08:25.tonight will be very cold. This is the seen so far, cloudy with some

:08:26. > :08:28.holes in the crowd here and there, some of us seeing sunshine and a bit

:08:29. > :08:31.of rain for us as well. That's associated with this weather front.

:08:32. > :08:33.Patches here and there, damp for some of us, but that will clear,

:08:34. > :08:37.bright spells and temperatures average for this time of year. At

:08:38. > :08:42.the end of tonight, skies clear and that means that it will be cold.

:08:43. > :08:48.Widespread hard frost on the way for tonight, missed and freezing fog

:08:49. > :08:52.patches, typical temperatures but it could be as low as minus eight

:08:53. > :08:58.degrees tonight, a very cold start fought morning. Any mist and fog

:08:59. > :09:01.should clear, and it should be a lovely and bright day. Winter

:09:02. > :09:11.sunshine Fort McMurray, a gorgeous day, if you like the bright weather,

:09:12. > :09:16.-- winter sunshine for tomorrow. On Friday, Al breaks of rain, and it

:09:17. > :09:23.will be mild as we head into the weekend, good on the most part.

:09:24. > :09:43.Thank you, we will be back here at 6:30pm on BBC One. See you then.

:09:44. > :09:50.Panorama investigates the deadly terrorist attack

:09:51. > :09:54.and should British tourists have been warned about the risks?
