:01:00. > :01:04.And, Lewis, plenty of delayed and cancelled flights there too ?
:01:05. > :01:11.That's right, it's hard to believe but behind me is what usually is
:01:12. > :01:15.just a bustling regional airport but note flights in or out today at the
:01:16. > :01:18.moment due to the fog. They did get a couple this morning but the
:01:19. > :01:23.problem is that aircraft can't land and pick up passengers. Some have
:01:24. > :01:26.been shipped by bus to Bristol and Bournemouth airports to try and get
:01:27. > :01:30.them to their destinations while others have had to wait in the
:01:31. > :01:34.terminal. I just caught up with one family, they left Dorset at three
:01:35. > :01:39.a.m., excited about going to Disneyland Paris and their plight
:01:40. > :01:44.could be as late as PM. Also problems at Gatwick, planes on the

:01:49. > :01:51.reporter Paul Moss. This flight is now two and a half hours later and
:01:52. > :01:55.still nowhere near taking off as far as I can tell. The problem started
:01:56. > :01:59.with the fog, which delayed the flight by two hours but as
:02:00. > :02:02.passengers decided they wanted to get off, presumably because it
:02:03. > :02:05.wasn't worth making the journey, Gatwick seems to have found they
:02:06. > :02:10.don't have stabbed to scored passengers back to the terminal, so
:02:11. > :02:13.there are further delays, which means more passengers want to get
:02:14. > :02:17.off the plane and means further delays and no sign of the party
:02:18. > :02:23.whatsoever. Lewis, what impact have we seen on the region's roads?
:02:24. > :02:27.Widespread disruption there as well. Dorset police reported they had 14

:02:40. > :02:44.elsewhere a number of different incidents. The ferries, if you have
:02:45. > :02:48.been trying to get to or from the Isle of Wight, you would have
:02:49. > :02:52.struggled. The Lymington to Yarmouth service has been suspended with

:03:00. > :03:04.two hours delay while the red -- services are running a two hour
:03:05. > :03:05.delay. Today is a good day to stay inside and not try and travel

:04:10. > :04:11.high-profile campaign to get her
:04:12. > :04:24.released must continue. The latest row by conductors is
:04:25. > :04:27.causing disruption for passengers on southern Railway, but less than
:04:28. > :04:31.usual. The company says it is running seven in ten services. Paul
:04:32. > :04:38.Clifton is here. That's not far of the normal service, is it? Southern
:04:39. > :04:43.service even on a good day is the worst in the country. Today is
:04:44. > :04:49.perhaps 15% down on a normal southern day. The RMT Union calls
:04:50. > :04:53.the strike rock-solid. Southern is certainly running more trains were a
:04:54. > :04:56.second member of staff. The union says it is happening six times more
:04:57. > :05:00.often than promised but that is three more trains a day. The biggest
:05:01. > :05:05.changes that drivers are routinely operating train doors on the
:05:06. > :05:08.majority of services. Driver controlled operation, in railway
:05:09. > :05:12.speak. That is not the same as driver only operation. Most trains
:05:13. > :05:18.have on-board supervisors. Bottom line is that during an M Magda
:05:19. > :05:22.Linette RMT strike, most trains can now run. They are running to
:05:23. > :05:28.Portsmouth and Southampton for the first time on a stroke play and some
:05:29. > :05:31.passengers are through to London instead of having to change. One
:05:32. > :05:35.member of the RMT has been sacked in Sussex. It is claimed she bullied
:05:36. > :05:39.other union members who wanted to work on strike days, but she is
:05:40. > :05:44.appealing against that dismissal. What about the talks between the
:05:45. > :05:47.drivers and the company? Three days of strikes this week by drivers have
:05:48. > :05:52.been suspended. The two sides met for three days of peace talks last
:05:53. > :06:01.week and are meeting again today. The other union, the RMT, is
:06:02. > :06:03.excluded from those talks so it's drivers will strike tomorrow. There
:06:04. > :06:06.are 1,000 drivers in the Aslef union, there are 12 in the RMT, so
:06:07. > :06:09.the company says it will run a full timetable tomorrow for the first
:06:10. > :06:14.time in nearly two months. Paul, thank you very much.
:06:15. > :06:20.More than 40% of junior doctors admit to having fallen asleep at the
:06:21. > :06:24.wheel of their cars on the way home. The BBC's inside out programme has
:06:25. > :06:26.investigated the impact that working night shifts is having on staff
:06:27. > :06:28.across the South. It's 8am and junior doctor
:06:29. > :06:31.Sam Jayaweera just finished another Really, really busy,
:06:32. > :06:36.erm, quite stressful, I cover intensive care and we had
:06:37. > :06:40.a full unit of patients. All right, so, if you'd
:06:41. > :06:42.like to come through to To see how working nights
:06:43. > :06:48.affects her driving, we've gone to the Transport Research
:06:49. > :06:51.laboratory in Berkshire. Fatigue is a huge
:06:52. > :06:53.road safety problem. Our own perception of our fatigue
:06:54. > :06:59.tends to lag behind reality and by the time we've realised it,
:07:00. > :07:02.we've already made a very serious mistake which could have
:07:03. > :07:04.led to a collision. Sam is put through series of tests
:07:05. > :07:08.on a virtual motorway. Just 19 minutes in, she starts
:07:09. > :07:12.having micro-sleeps. Micro sleep is a slightly longer
:07:13. > :07:16.blink, up to 15 seconds in duration. For Sam and all drivers,
:07:17. > :07:27.the results come as a wake-up call Inside Out is on tonight
:07:28. > :07:45.at 7.30 tonight on BBC One. A miserable start for many of us
:07:46. > :07:47.across the region, let's find out if it is said to get any better with
:07:48. > :07:48.Emily. It's been a rather chilly start
:07:49. > :07:52.to the week, it's going to remain quite chilly over the next few days
:07:53. > :07:55.and some fog proving quite slow We have got some sunshine breaking
:07:56. > :07:58.through, but we are looking High pressure is with us
:07:59. > :08:02.at the moment, very light winds, that means that fog will reform
:08:03. > :08:04.quite widely through tonight. It does remain dry over the next few
:08:05. > :08:08.days, we should see a bit more in the way of sunshine later
:08:09. > :08:11.in the week as well. So the best of the sunshine
:08:12. > :08:14.is to the west, some more cloud to the north and east,
:08:15. > :08:16.some misty, foggy conditions lingering through much
:08:17. > :08:20.of this afternoon. Particularly, we have
:08:21. > :08:23.got the mist and cloud, remaining feeling cold,
:08:24. > :08:25.highs of 3-5 degrees, seven or eight Celsius
:08:26. > :08:27.at best in any sunshine. And through tonight,
:08:28. > :08:29.the fog will reform We're also looking at a widespread
:08:30. > :08:32.frost through tonight and freezing fog could well be a hazard
:08:33. > :08:35.through tonight and for tomorrow morning, temperatures down
:08:36. > :08:37.to minus two or minus three Celsius. So tomorrow, they'll be frost,
:08:38. > :08:40.some locally dense fog and some Quite slow to clear as well for many
:08:41. > :08:46.places and it may linger locally More cloud through tomorrow as well
:08:47. > :08:50.adding to the chilly feel. Still those light winds and highs
:08:51. > :08:53.of up to eight degrees. A bit of a change for later
:08:54. > :08:55.in the week, though. From Wednesday onwards,
:08:56. > :08:58.the winds increase so mist and fog should become less of a hazard
:08:59. > :09:01.for the second half of this week. There will be some cloud at times,
:09:02. > :09:05.particularly Wednesday and Friday. A little sunshine through
:09:06. > :09:09.the day on Thursday. There will be the risk still of some
:09:10. > :09:25.overnight frosts but it does remain That said, we are back with you at
:09:26. > :09:26.6:30pm. Thanks for your company, enjoy your afternoon. Goodbye for
:09:27. > :09:45.now. a free five-a-side tournament
