:00:09. > :00:13.A group set up to promote the health benefits of cold water swimming took

:00:14. > :00:15.a dose of their own medicine today - when they plunged

:00:16. > :00:20.Members of Swimming Against Depression say it helps

:00:21. > :00:22.people deal with stress - and gets them off

:00:23. > :00:27.The group wants to raise awareness of the benefits -

:00:28. > :00:30.and eventually set up a natural health centre by the sea.

:00:31. > :00:37.It's definitely not for the faint hearted.

:00:38. > :00:41.But the people who went for dip at Avon Beach in Mudeford today

:00:42. > :00:43.are convinced swimming in cold water really does help them tackle

:00:44. > :00:59.How was that? Amazing. Brilliant. It is amazing, it is very cold today.

:01:00. > :01:02.But it is really good. Amy Moule says she set up the group

:01:03. > :01:15.Swimming Against Depression after I woke up in the morning and

:01:16. > :01:19.sometimes I have had a bad night, bad dreams, and I would feel low and

:01:20. > :01:24.I am thinking, I have got to change this so I get down to the beach and

:01:25. > :01:29.get into the sea and yes, almost immediately start feeling better.

:01:30. > :01:31.Whether you suffer with depression or not, it even slight anxiety, you

:01:32. > :01:36.do this, you can do anything. Some of Amy's inspiration came

:01:37. > :01:38.from a BBC programme called "The Doctor Who Gave Up Drugs" -

:01:39. > :01:41.Dr Chris Van Tulleken looked at research at Portsmouth University -

:01:42. > :01:53.which analyses the effect of low It is exhilarating. You're

:01:54. > :01:59.experiencing what ever -- that every open water swimmer says. That skin

:02:00. > :02:04.stimulation releases adrenaline and gets all your stress hormones up. I

:02:05. > :02:06.thought that was brilliant. I want to get other people doing it as

:02:07. > :02:09.well. Today some people just put

:02:10. > :02:12.a toe in the water - but Amy is hoping many of them

:02:13. > :02:15.will soon become regular swimmers. Two men have been arrested after

:02:16. > :02:17.a spate of knife-point robberies Four incidents happened

:02:18. > :02:20.on Friday and yesterday in the Paulsgrove area -

:02:21. > :02:23.cash and mobile phones A robbery at a Spar shop nearby,

:02:24. > :02:29.on Wednesday evening Two men in their forties,

:02:30. > :02:31.both from Portsmouth, Ambulances services in the south had

:02:32. > :02:39.a busier than usual new year. South East Coast Ambulance Service

:02:40. > :02:42.warned yesterday that it was struggling to get to some patients

:02:43. > :02:44.in the required time, It says crews worked flat out,

:02:45. > :02:47.focusing on life-threatening calls. They attended 300 more

:02:48. > :02:49.incidents this New Year's Three quarters of passengers

:02:50. > :02:59.on the Southern rail network say they don't support ongoing strike

:03:00. > :03:02.action, according to a new survey carried out by the Association

:03:03. > :03:04.of British Commuters. Today is the second day

:03:05. > :03:06.of the latest three day But the Association -

:03:07. > :03:09.formed by passengers - argues that its members are more

:03:10. > :03:12.angry about ongoing disruption on the network -

:03:13. > :03:14.which they say began long before While people do support the unions,

:03:15. > :03:23.as in what they are trying to do and what they believe in,

:03:24. > :03:26.they just find it difficult to support the strike action,

:03:27. > :03:28.particularly given the message that comes from some in the government

:03:29. > :03:31.saying that all the disruption that is happening is

:03:32. > :03:36.because of strikes. Several thousand people saw

:03:37. > :03:39.in New Year in the open air last The historical re-enactment group,

:03:40. > :03:42.the Wimborne Militia fired a salute at the stroke of midnight,

:03:43. > :03:53.before dancing began. Let's find out how the weather

:03:54. > :03:57.is looking for the start of 2017. We still have some rain,

:03:58. > :04:01.it is gradually clearing towards the south but for most of us

:04:02. > :04:04.tonight, particularly further south Further north, we could see clear

:04:05. > :04:09.skies and there could be a touch of frost rurally,

:04:10. > :04:11.but most towns and cities It means a chilly start

:04:12. > :04:16.to the day tomorrow, once any cloud and rain clears

:04:17. > :04:19.from the south it should be dry and clear and beautiful,

:04:20. > :04:21.lots of sunshine. It will feel noticeably colder,

:04:22. > :04:24.struggling up to four or 5 degrees. That sets us up for a cold night,

:04:25. > :04:26.Monday into Tuesday, widespread frost, even towns

:04:27. > :04:29.and cities dipping below freezing. Tuesday dry and bright,

:04:30. > :04:31.more cloud as we head towards next weekend but actually the week should

:04:32. > :04:33.be largely dry. Our next updates

:04:34. > :05:13.are in BBC Breakfast. For many, New Year's Day was a

:05:14. > :05:17.shocker with all of that rain around. Tomorrow will be sunny, but

:05:18. > :05:21.it is getting colder. This is rain clearing from the south-east. These

:05:22. > :05:24.specks of white as snow mixed in with showers across parts of

:05:25. > :05:30.northern England, particularly across Scotland, low levels here. I

:05:31. > :05:34.say that they hazard in northern and eastern areas. I would not rule out

:05:35. > :05:38.slippery areas almost anywhere by the morning, by which time

:05:39. > :05:43.temperatures will be close to or below freezing in many places. A

:05:44. > :05:46.bright and sunny start, but still wintry showers, sliding down the

:05:47. > :05:51.North Sea coast. Some snow down at quite low levels to the north of

:05:52. > :05:53.Scotland. Here, the snow will turn to rain. Something milder creeping

:05:54. > :05:54.in off
