:00:00. > :00:13.Good evening, I'm Edward Sault. at 11pm - now on BBC1 its time

:00:14. > :00:16.A Royal Navy warship based in Portsmouth has rescued 14 sailors

:00:17. > :00:19.after they became stranded in the Atlantic ocean.

:00:20. > :00:22.The Clyde Challenger was returning to the UK and got caught up

:00:23. > :00:26.in strong winds and heavy seas which snapped the mast.

:00:27. > :00:29.HMS Dragon was diverted 500 miles and reached the yacht

:00:30. > :00:34.She provided what's been described as "life-saving

:00:35. > :00:39.assistance" to the 14 sailors - 13 of whom were British.

:00:40. > :00:42.We got hit with a wave which knocked us over.

:00:43. > :00:46.Basically the top of the mast hit the water and snapped.

:00:47. > :00:49.The crew just did what we are trained to do.

:00:50. > :00:54.It was quite a big swell so every time the boat went away,

:00:55. > :00:57.we'd lose sight of it before we could see what was going

:00:58. > :01:01.on with our own boat, so it was really quite rough.

:01:02. > :01:04.A woman in her twenties is in a critical condition

:01:05. > :01:07.after falling from the third floor of a block of flats in Southampton.

:01:08. > :01:10.It happened shortly after 10.45 yesterday morning

:01:11. > :01:14.The woman was discovered on the ground by police

:01:15. > :01:19.She was taken to Southampton General Hospital and officers are appealing

:01:20. > :01:22.for anyone who witnessed what happened.

:01:23. > :01:25.A woman from Sussex has been given a 15-month sentence

:01:26. > :01:28.after threatening to kill horses at a yard in Shoreham.

:01:29. > :01:32.Kirsty Geoghegan, who's 25 and from Hove, tried to blackmail

:01:33. > :01:36.stable owners at Buddies Yard into paying her ?5,000.

:01:37. > :01:39.The horses had previously had their tails and manes cut off

:01:40. > :01:43.The stable owners say they're relieved the judge handed out

:01:44. > :01:58.Absolutely gobsmacked that she got a prison sentence but very ecstatic

:01:59. > :02:03.that justice has been served. We went through a horrendous,

:02:04. > :02:04.absolutely horrendous... The messages we receive it and

:02:05. > :02:06.everything we went through. Ambitious plans to completely change

:02:07. > :02:08.the structure of local government in Dorset have been condemned by one

:02:09. > :02:11.of the county's most Six of the county's nine local

:02:12. > :02:14.authorities have backed plans to replace the current set-up

:02:15. > :02:16.with two unitary authorities, but the other three councils

:02:17. > :02:30.want to keep things as they are. This is a very crude map of Dorset's

:02:31. > :02:34.current nine council areas with the economic powerhouse of Bournemouth

:02:35. > :02:39.and pot clean to merge with Christchurch and the other five

:02:40. > :02:49.councils locked together to form a separate military authority in the

:02:50. > :02:55.West. Recently three of the smaller councils have all voted no to being

:02:56. > :03:00.merged with their neighbours. Cheers greeted the merger plans being

:03:01. > :03:05.rejected by Christchurch councillors. It's not democratic.

:03:06. > :03:09.People want to keep control of their own destiny. Bournemouth and Paul

:03:10. > :03:14.can join together if they want to and meanwhile we have a combined

:03:15. > :03:19.authority which is a strong business voice for Dorset. In Purbeck the

:03:20. > :03:25.council vote on the mergers were split 11 - 11, the plans rejected by

:03:26. > :03:29.the casting vote. It is a bad idea. The bigger councils will get all the

:03:30. > :03:36.money and we will not get anything. Do mergers work? Democratically

:03:37. > :03:43.there will be less councillors so less representatives of people,

:03:44. > :03:49.perhaps a conservative stranglehold. This is not rocket science. It works

:03:50. > :03:53.well in Cornwall, Wiltshire. Nine councils cannot be the best optimum

:03:54. > :03:59.arrangement of delivering public service in accountancy the size of

:04:00. > :04:04.Dorset. The final decision rests with the secretary of state for

:04:05. > :04:06.communities and government. There is cause for referendum.

:04:07. > :04:09.Football and Southampton got their first points away

:04:10. > :04:11.from home in 2017 as they beat Sunderland 4-0 yesterday.

:04:12. > :04:14.Manolo Gabbiadini scored twice in his second

:04:15. > :04:16.Southampton appearance - his first goal came

:04:17. > :04:22.The Italian scored again just before the break with a brilliant turn

:04:23. > :04:28.It was perfect preparation for their next game -

:04:29. > :04:30.the League Cup final against Manchester United

:04:31. > :04:45.Let's get the weather forecast. Quite a cloudy night too, with a few

:04:46. > :04:50.showers as well. The showers will start to ease off as we had through

:04:51. > :04:57.the night. The cloud will break up, so clear skies to be had later on,

:04:58. > :05:01.temperatures of three or 4 degrees. Quite a strong easterly wind and

:05:02. > :05:04.that will make things feel quite cold as we had through Monday

:05:05. > :05:10.despite the fact we will see plenty of dry and find weather. The

:05:11. > :05:16.sunshine finally making an appearance. Temperatures around nine

:05:17. > :05:20.or 10 Celsius. But add on the strength of the easterly wind and it

:05:21. > :05:25.will feel cold. Through the rest of the week, there are some showers to

:05:26. > :05:29.take us into Tuesday. They will ease off and then we will see Cryer,

:05:30. > :05:36.brighter weather with highs of 10 degrees. I am back at 11:20pm. Have

:05:37. > :06:14.a lovely evening. Goodbye. Good evening, dull, grey, cold,

:06:15. > :06:19.miserable. And that's just me! The weather hasn't been great leader for

:06:20. > :06:24.most of us, it will be chilly out there with this nagging easterly

:06:25. > :06:27.breeze, wetter weather for Northern Ireland, by the end of the night

:06:28. > :06:31.most of the dampness across parts of Eastern Scotland and North East

:06:32. > :06:34.England, most of the high ground Luus will have faded away as well.

:06:35. > :06:35.But not
