:00:28. > :00:30.where less than ?100 worth of items had been taken.
:00:31. > :00:32.The police have since tried to reassure traders
:00:33. > :00:34.but some have been left confused and concerned,
:00:35. > :00:39.It was here at Hungerford Town Hall that councillors were told that
:00:40. > :00:42.under a so-called new delivery model, police would no longer turn
:00:43. > :00:49.particularly those of goods worth less than ?100.
:00:50. > :00:52.I think it was a bit of a shock, obviously.
:00:53. > :00:55.There are a number of smaller retailers I know
:00:56. > :01:00.that are not on the breadline but they struggle from time to time and
:01:01. > :01:05.?90 worth of stuff stolen from a shop could well
:01:06. > :01:11.Hungerford has a host of independent traders.
:01:12. > :01:14.The owner of this antiques arcade was concerned to hear he may
:01:15. > :01:17.not get help dealing with a shoplifting incident.
:01:18. > :01:20.If the police are not going to come out for anything under ?100,
:01:21. > :01:23.if we do have somebody, how do I handle it?
:01:24. > :01:27.Do I hold onto him and then phone the police or do I take him down
:01:28. > :01:29.to the police station or what do I do?
:01:30. > :01:32.It is very grey so that is the reason I was surprised
:01:33. > :01:37.Hungerford lost its police station over a year ago
:01:38. > :01:41.so there were already fears about a lack of police presence.
:01:42. > :01:44.Now the Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner says
:01:45. > :01:45.he will raise the comment about shoplifting policy
:01:46. > :01:49.If we didn't investigate shoplifting up to ?100,
:01:50. > :01:55.If people shoplift and nobody does anything about it,
:01:56. > :02:01.So I totally disagree with that comment and I will be taking it up
:02:02. > :02:03.But I'm sure that was not the intention.
:02:04. > :02:06.Thames Valley Police have now tried to reassure the town council
:02:07. > :02:11.They say that the reference to ?100 was arbitrary and does not
:02:12. > :02:16.But they go on to say that clearly police attendance at incidents
:02:17. > :02:21.is prioritised according to the prevailing threat or harm
:02:22. > :02:25.to people and property and the associated risks.
:02:26. > :02:33.They also say any suitable lines of inquiry will be pursued.
:02:34. > :02:36.A man's been arrested following a fire on the roof of Guys Marsh

:04:12. > :04:14.likely to go and areas they are normally found in so we can
:04:15. > :04:18.target our resources on the right places as early as possible.

:04:40. > :04:45.Those add up to a toxic mix of pressure in our society and is
:04:46. > :04:48.probably the reason why we are seeing a huge increase in the
:04:49. > :04:52.With a higher demand on rescue teams, they're aiming
