:00:23. > :00:26.That's a question shoppers have been asked in Portsmouth this weekend,

:00:27. > :00:28.by a charity raising awareness of modern day slavery.

:00:29. > :00:30.It's estimated that 20,000 people are trafficked

:00:31. > :00:32.into the UK every year, but it's a very hidden crime.

:00:33. > :00:38.This is Maria, just one of thousands of people working in Britain

:00:39. > :00:45.Brought here by a wealthy family, she was forced to work

:00:46. > :00:53.She managed to escape, but many others can't.

:00:54. > :00:56.Which is why the organisation Stop the Traffik wants us all to be

:00:57. > :00:58.on the lookout for signs of such abuse.

:00:59. > :01:00.It's about equipping the community and the general public

:01:01. > :01:02.with the ability to understand that this does exist.

:01:03. > :01:05.You are looking for anything that looks a bit untoward,

:01:06. > :01:06.people that might seem a bit malnourished,

:01:07. > :01:11.people that feel may be afraid if they are doing agricultural work

:01:12. > :01:16.They might not be wearing the right equipment,

:01:17. > :01:23.they might not be taking breaks, so it's so varied.

:01:24. > :01:25.Activists are using this giant gift box to illustrate the problem,

:01:26. > :01:27.on the outside it looks like a present, people

:01:28. > :01:36.The reality, depicted inside the box, is a different story.

:01:37. > :01:38.This is an important and unacceptable crime

:01:39. > :01:41.that is taking place in our community that we must deal

:01:42. > :01:44.with and it is important that we join together in partnerships.

:01:45. > :01:47.If they're something that gives you concern,

:01:48. > :01:49.we will take that information, treat it confidentially and we

:01:50. > :01:55.It's thought only one in five people living in slavery

:01:56. > :01:57.here are ever discovered, but better public vigilance could be

:01:58. > :02:11.A man has been arrested after a series of armed robberies

:03:51. > :03:52.all that data, can analyse it and see if we can

:03:53. > :03:59.Nearly 500 monitors have already been deployed with twice that

:04:00. > :04:01.still on order and given its early success, the Tempus might not

:04:02. > :04:05.remain an exclusively military piece of kit for much longer.
