:00:00. > :00:16.I'm Edward Sault with the news in the south.

:00:17. > :00:18.It's been revealed that the Red Funnel ferry service,

:00:19. > :00:21.which was put up for sale earlier this month, could be

:00:22. > :00:27.The service connects Cowes to Southampton and now one political

:00:28. > :00:37.group on the island council has said it is actively pursuing investors.

:00:38. > :00:42.I have been to the island today to gauge reaction.

:00:43. > :00:44.Business as usual today as the 12 noon car ferry sailing

:00:45. > :00:46.to Southampton loads up at East Cowes.

:00:47. > :00:49.It's estimated it would cost over ?200 million for the council to buy

:00:50. > :00:57.Red Funnel, but is it really something the island can afford?

:00:58. > :01:05.Every single businessperson, resident, shopkeeper on the Isle of

:01:06. > :01:09.White is reliant on the Isle of Wight ferries and it is very

:01:10. > :01:12.important that if we are going to secure the economic future of the

:01:13. > :01:14.Isle of White, we take a really close look at our key transport

:01:15. > :01:21.But the idea hasn't been met with universal approval.

:01:22. > :01:27.Why are they selling? Probably because the investors now want a

:01:28. > :01:31.return on their money. If new investors come in, they will want a

:01:32. > :01:35.return on their money. If the Isle of Wight Council gets involved, it

:01:36. > :01:38.would like to think it would stay with it for the longevity to do

:01:39. > :01:40.something about the ferries in the future.

:01:41. > :01:51.The company says they are reviewing their ownership of the firm after

:01:52. > :01:54.many years and they are key to speak to interested parties, but say they

:01:55. > :01:59.are determined to maintain a good service for islanders. I think it is

:02:00. > :02:03.a good idea providing they can afford it in the first place and

:02:04. > :02:08.they will not overload the community tax to make everyone here pay for

:02:09. > :02:14.it. There have been so many complaints about ferries, but to

:02:15. > :02:17.take it into part ownership of the island is a phenomenal idea. It is

:02:18. > :02:18.something associated with the island that we really need.

:02:19. > :02:26.to cause waves in the run up to May's local elections.

:02:27. > :02:29.A pilot and his passenger had a lucky escape last night

:02:30. > :02:30.after their helicopter crashed in Reading.

:02:31. > :02:33.The aircraft came down in the Caversham area on the banks

:02:34. > :02:37.It's thought to have lost control over a housing estate called

:02:38. > :02:41.Eyewitness Luke Howroyd, who took this photo,

:02:42. > :02:46.said he saw it spin out of control and land with a thud.

:02:47. > :02:48.Bournemouth MP Tobias Ellwood has been honoured for his heroism

:02:49. > :02:50.in the London terror attack by being appointed

:02:51. > :02:52.to the Privy Council, a formal body of advisers

:02:53. > :02:57.Mr Ellwood, who is also a Foreign Office minister,

:02:58. > :03:00.battled to save the life of PC Keith Palmer who was killed in last

:03:01. > :03:07.Police investigating a suspected murder in Winchester have

:03:08. > :03:11.Carl Scott's body was found at a house in Birch Court

:03:12. > :03:14.in the Stanmore area on Wednesday afternoon.

:03:15. > :03:20.A 58-year-old is being questioned about the death.

:03:21. > :03:22.Football now and in League One it was victory

:03:23. > :03:30.The Oxford and MK Dons matches both ended in 0-0 draws.

:03:31. > :03:33.While in League Two there was a bit more to cheer

:03:34. > :03:37.about with a Portsmouth win over Newport County.

:03:38. > :03:40.A teenager who made a video about growing up with a brain tumour

:03:41. > :03:43.has reached his target in an online fundraising appeal.

:03:44. > :03:46.Lewis Hine, from Portsmouth, wanted to raise ?15,000

:03:47. > :03:49.for teenagers who had missed their school proms

:03:50. > :03:53.through illness or disability to have their own party.

:03:54. > :03:56.He marked his own sixteenth birthday recently by posting this video

:03:57. > :03:58.which has been watched more than 20 million times

:03:59. > :04:22.Good evening, we have had a beautiful day today and if you had

:04:23. > :04:27.shelter from the breeze, it was warm. Tonight is a rather chilly

:04:28. > :04:33.one. A bit of cloud drifting in and out at times and lows of three or 4

:04:34. > :04:38.degrees. Another chilly start tomorrow, but yet again it will be

:04:39. > :04:43.dry. A bright and breezy day and temperatures are a notch down on

:04:44. > :04:46.today at 14 or 15. It stay settled on Monday and we get the wind

:04:47. > :05:00.picking up in the middle part of the week

:05:25. > :05:28.the sunshine, don't worry, we will get more tomorrow. The one

:05:29. > :05:34.exception, the Shetland Islands, shrouded in cloud. Elsewhere it has

:05:35. > :05:38.been a stunner. The highest temperature of the year so far, 19
