:01:58. > :01:59.

:01:59. > :02:06.Our under cover GP, who posed as a cancer patient was offered a sample

:02:06. > :02:11.of the medicine. He welcomed the court action. It was a serious

:02:11. > :02:17.matter of someone in my case offering to treat people with

:02:18. > :02:23.cancer and secondly producing a drug which had potent properties.

:02:23. > :02:27.We witnessed people vomiting into buckets and having hallucinations.

:02:27. > :02:34.If it had been given to someone who was weakened through cancer, it

:02:34. > :02:40.could have made them ill. It was after we gave the sample to local

:02:40. > :02:44.police that a major investigation took place, which led to the

:02:44. > :02:48.landmark hearing. As a result of that, in January 2008, we launched

:02:48. > :02:53.a further investigation, during which we seized further material

:02:53. > :02:59.and it led to the arrest of Peter Aziz. What message does this

:02:59. > :03:05.prosecution send out? That DMT is a dangerous drug, it is in the same

:03:05. > :03:10.category as heroin. We have worked with the Home Office and I hope

:03:10. > :03:14.they will raise awareness of the problems and health concerns with

:03:14. > :03:19.DMT. Peter Aziz, from Devon, had denied two count of producing a

:03:19. > :03:24.Class A drug and two of supplying it. He claims to have taken Home

:03:24. > :03:29.Office advice about the legality of using it. Have you got that in

:03:29. > :03:35.write something Just in e-mail. From the police? Yes. Can I see

:03:35. > :03:40.that? I haven't got it any more. The herb is still advertised on the

:03:40. > :03:44.internet. This action may make some suppliers think twice about

:03:44. > :03:47.continuing to sell it. There's concern tonight about future

:03:47. > :03:50.investigations into some of the region's unsolved murder cases. The

:03:50. > :03:53.Forensic Science Service is being closed in the New Year, casting

:03:53. > :03:56.doubt over whether new DNA matching techniques will be available to

:03:56. > :04:06.help solve the killings of Kate Bushell and Linda Bryant. John

:04:06. > :04:09.

:04:09. > :04:13.Ayres reports. In November 1997, 14-year-old Kate Bushell was

:04:13. > :04:18.murdered while walking a dog in Exeter. Since then the police have

:04:18. > :04:22.taken thousands of DNA samples, but haven't been able to find a match.

:04:22. > :04:26.If the killer is to be found, DNA will be the key. Next March the

:04:26. > :04:30.Home Office is closing the forensic science service, because it is

:04:30. > :04:36.losing money. What will happen to the samples still has not been

:04:36. > :04:41.decided. The fear this a this could jeopardise any hope of finding the

:04:41. > :04:45.killers in cases like Kate Bushell and Linda Bryant. MPs on a

:04:45. > :04:50.committee say the Government's handling of the situation is not

:04:50. > :04:54.good enough. It is essential that the integrity of the archive is

:04:54. > :05:00.protected and with just months to go, the Government can't even

:05:00. > :05:10.respond to our report. In a statement, the crime and security

:05:10. > :05:26.

:05:26. > :05:30.The police didn't want to comment on the situation. But a former

:05:31. > :05:37.officer told me this will raise concerns, but that said, the police

:05:37. > :05:40.have always had to pay for forensic work and it is often the private

:05:40. > :05:44.providers that come up with the techniques that can make a break

:05:44. > :05:47.through. A suspect from Plymouth is among nine Britons and three

:05:47. > :05:49.Irishmen being held in Ibiza after a police swoop against drug

:05:49. > :05:52.traffickers. More than 69,000 euros worth of drugs were seized at

:05:52. > :05:55.properties in two different resorts. Spanish police say most of the

:05:55. > :06:02.pills found are known as Pink Rock Star, similar to those linked to

:06:03. > :06:05.the poisonings of several clubbers. Former Exeter City footballer Dan

:06:05. > :06:07.Seaborne is in hospital with potentially life threatening head

:06:07. > :06:10.injuries after being attacked outside a nightclub in Southampton.

:06:10. > :06:20.The 24-year-old defender left Exeter last year. Two men aged 35

:06:20. > :06:29.

:06:29. > :06:39.and 29, have been arrested. The South West has potential to use

:06:39. > :06:39.

:06:39. > :06:41.natural energy. The facility was set up almost a year ago, but the

:06:41. > :06:45.poor state of the economy means its generating nothing. Spotlight's

:06:45. > :06:49.Environment Correspondent, Adrian Campbell, reports. Waver hub is a

:06:49. > :06:54.yellow under sea socket deployed off the coast of Cornwall last year.

:06:54. > :07:00.The device connects to the national electricity grid with miles of

:07:00. > :07:04.cable. It should be an excellent facility for companies testing wave

:07:04. > :07:10.energy converters to generate electricity. The waver hub works

:07:10. > :07:16.perfectly, according to the agency which developed the project. But is

:07:16. > :07:21.not sure when the first kurs Maher will use it. We're -- Kurs Maher

:07:21. > :07:24.will use it. We still need to get some things sorted, such as the

:07:25. > :07:30.navigation marks before we can accept a device. The industry has

:07:30. > :07:36.taken a knock, like many others, due to the recession. So it has

:07:36. > :07:42.slowed up. But the facility is there and we're ready, as soon as

:07:42. > :07:47.the developers are. The waver hub is to be run by -- Wave Hub is to

:07:47. > :07:51.be run by a stand alone company when the agency is wound up. More

:07:51. > :08:00.than 40 million has been invested by the public. The first company

:08:00. > :08:04.due to tie up alongside Wave Hub is Ocean Power, so can they say when

:08:04. > :08:08.they're coming. That is a great question. We want to carry on with

:08:08. > :08:12.trials in Scotland. We have done well with them and we intend to

:08:12. > :08:16.have them for three months, but we got an extension. So we will bring

:08:16. > :08:22.our device out of the water in October. And we will do survey and

:08:22. > :08:27.then we will look for what I call a commercial site. Of course Wave Hub

:08:27. > :08:31.is suited to that. The Government has said it is committed to making

:08:31. > :08:36.Wave Hub a success. But in the current climate, it will be

:08:36. > :08:41.difficult to attract the customers with the cash to plug into the hub

:08:41. > :08:44.and test their devices. Well across the region work is taking place to

:08:44. > :08:47.harness the power of nature in different forms from the wind to

:08:47. > :08:50.the sun. But it isn't without controversy. One of the biggest

:08:50. > :08:53.solar farms in the South West is being built near Puriton on the

:08:53. > :08:56.Somerset Levels. It'll cover 31 acres in total, but, as Clinton

:08:56. > :09:06.Rogers reports, nearby residents say it's a desecration of the

:09:06. > :09:06.

:09:06. > :09:12.landscape. The panels are ten feet high. And by the time this solar

:09:12. > :09:18.farm is completed there will be pwhor than 20,000 of them acrossed

:09:18. > :09:25.31 acres in Somerset. The black lines will march across five fields

:09:25. > :09:29.to the edge of the village of Puriton. Those who live close to it

:09:29. > :09:35.are annoyed their view is being destroyed for what they call a

:09:35. > :09:40.pitiful amount of electricity. Desecration of the countryside,

:09:40. > :09:45.just I feel very sad about it. Just for a, fr people lining their

:09:45. > :09:50.pockets. It will be a blot on the landscape. You only have o' to look

:09:51. > :10:00.around and go up and see a sheet of black panels. It is just, I spoiled

:10:00. > :10:06.the outlook. The company behind the development say it is valuable

:10:06. > :10:11.green energy. We're on target to by the end of September produce four

:10:11. > :10:16.megawatts 06 capacity, that will go into the grid and that will provide

:10:16. > :10:20.enough energy for around 1,000 households. All of this has

:10:20. > :10:25.happened quickly. The farm was granted planning permission a few

:10:25. > :10:30.month ago. The reason for the speed, is to qualify for significant

:10:30. > :10:34.Government cash incentives, this farm had to be generatinglikety by

:10:34. > :10:41.the 1st August. Although it business -- electricity by 1st

:10:41. > :10:46.August. That will guarantee them a higher price for electricity for 25

:10:46. > :10:53.years. Any developments from now will receive a price for their

:10:53. > :11:02.power, less than a quarter of what these people will get. Small wonder

:11:02. > :11:06.the number of new solar farms being planned has fallen dramaty. --

:11:06. > :11:08.dramatically. The plan to revive mining on the Plymouth side of

:11:08. > :11:12.Dartmoor has taken its next step forward. The mine company has

:11:12. > :11:15.secured $6 million funding so that work on the ground can begin in

:11:15. > :11:18.earnest. They'll be mining tungsten, a metal which - like many others -

:11:18. > :11:22.has seen a huge rise in its value over the last ten years. Our

:11:22. > :11:28.business correspondent, Neil Gallacher, reports. This is what it

:11:28. > :11:37.is all about, tungsten. Don't drop drop it on your toe. They don't

:11:37. > :11:43.have to go far to find it. Willem ploy about 230 -- it will

:11:43. > :11:47.employ around 230 people directly. So it is a positive move. Farley --

:11:47. > :11:51.particularly with the losses of jobs in other industries and so

:11:51. > :11:56.hopefully some of those who have been displaced from mining will

:11:56. > :12:01.have an opportunity to come back into it. Mining here began in 1919.

:12:01. > :12:06.These buildings date from the 40. Basic planning permission is in

:12:06. > :12:13.place. The $6 million secured will pay for the agreed first step in

:12:13. > :12:17.the roll out of modern mind, a new road. Good, it is nothing but good.

:12:17. > :12:22.We have been asking for that, they have got to put in the new road

:12:22. > :12:28.before they start. That is our planning permission. It is already

:12:29. > :12:32.granted. And we have been asking for an improvement of that road for

:12:32. > :12:37.100 years. But this is beautiful countryside, there are concerns

:12:37. > :12:41.about the impact of mining. view from my farm is going to be

:12:41. > :12:45.ruined. I think it should have a positive effect on the

:12:45. > :12:49.neighbourhood. But there are going to be some draw backs, such as

:12:49. > :12:55.traffic, probably dust. There will be a lot of jobs to go with it.

:12:55. > :12:59.There will be a lot of small industries MEPing as well. --

:12:59. > :13:05.helping as well. That must be good. Mining here will be no novelty. The

:13:05. > :13:15.area has a rich, although not pretty, history of China clay

:13:15. > :13:15.

:13:15. > :13:19.extraction. Coming up: the dog which survived a 50-foot fall from

:13:19. > :13:23.a hotel balcony. Plus a tense stand off at Home Park. It's game on as

:13:23. > :13:32.the players and staff finally secure some wages. And ahead of the

:13:32. > :13:35.new rugby season we'll find out how our biggest clubs are shaping up.

:13:35. > :13:38.The last of the south west county shows kicks off tomorrow -

:13:38. > :13:41.organisers of the Dorset County Show in Dorchester are expecting

:13:41. > :13:44.record crowds. So far even the weather is on their side. There's

:13:44. > :13:46.also further evidence that despite the economic slowdown the county

:13:46. > :13:56.shows are continuing to attract strong support from traders and

:13:56. > :14:03.

:14:03. > :14:10.exhibitors. Simon Clemison reports. Dorset is basking in the sunshine

:14:10. > :14:14.and the county show is enjoying a good year. Here pre-show ticket

:14:14. > :14:20.sales were up and the number of trade stands has reached record

:14:20. > :14:26.levels. In fact there is a waiting list. Meet local producer No 1,

:14:26. > :14:31.demand for their bees wax is growing and while others may be

:14:31. > :14:36.tempted to cutback, they're investing. This is not about

:14:36. > :14:42.selling honey or other things? its about meeting the public and

:14:42. > :14:47.people who will use the end product. Normally we sell this whole sae. It

:14:47. > :14:54.is an tun -- sale and it I an opportunity to meet people. And

:14:54. > :15:00.find out if they like it. This company in Weymouth stitches

:15:00. > :15:04.branding on work closes. Another firm trying to expand. This is a

:15:05. > :15:09.change of direction for Kevin. But he wants to make enough to retire.

:15:09. > :15:14.You're our second business. You have grown on word-of-mouth. But

:15:15. > :15:22.now you need to expand? Yes and we need to be higher profile. And will

:15:23. > :15:27.the show help that? Hopefully, yes. And business No 3. You're based in

:15:27. > :15:33.Weymouth and fit garage doors. You have seen some areas go quiet?

:15:33. > :15:38.but not all. Some would say now is not the time to spend on

:15:38. > :15:42.promotional events. Well this is our seventh year. We feel it is a

:15:42. > :15:45.good medium. People get touchy feely with the garage door and it

:15:45. > :15:49.works well. Some shows have disappeared, but as growth

:15:49. > :15:52.struggles across the country, the rest have been going from strength

:15:52. > :15:57.to strength. Today it is another show ground in Somerset, and I met

:15:57. > :16:03.the man who represents more than 200 of the events. A lot of people,

:16:03. > :16:09.it has been widely reported, have not been going abroad on holidays.

:16:09. > :16:14.Good weather. That has brought people out to their local event.

:16:14. > :16:19.And so because the people are coming, it has attracted exhibitor

:16:19. > :16:28.who want to entertain and sell their goods to everyone. It could

:16:28. > :16:38.turn out to be a very pleasant weekend indeed. Looking good. Time

:16:38. > :16:42.

:16:42. > :16:45.for the sport and the strike is off? Senior players at Plymouth

:16:45. > :16:47.Argyle withdrew their threat of strike action today after the

:16:47. > :16:50.administrators finally paid a proportion of their wages. A full

:16:50. > :16:53.squad boarded the bus for the trip to tomorrow's opponents Burton

:16:53. > :16:58.Albion as fans turned out to show their support. The staff and

:16:58. > :17:03.players have been paid 40% of this month's salary. Why did it have to

:17:03. > :17:08.take us to do this for them to stump up money? Sure think players

:17:08. > :17:13.and staff should be one of their priorities and it shouldn't have to

:17:13. > :17:17.take you know a threat of not playing for them to do that. After

:17:17. > :17:19.home success in the past week, Exeter City go for their first away

:17:19. > :17:22.win of the season at Hartlepool. Goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley, who

:17:22. > :17:24.performed heroics in the midweek penalty shoot-out win over Plymouth,

:17:24. > :17:26.could retain his place. Curtis Haynes-Brown is suspended for

:17:26. > :17:29.Yeovil Town's trip to Tranmere after his dismissal last week.

:17:29. > :17:31.Torquay striker Rene Howe misses United's home test against

:17:31. > :17:35.Macclesfield as he's injured and Plymouth Argyle boss Peter Reid

:17:35. > :17:45.says he will field a team at Burton Albion as the Pilgrims seek that

:17:45. > :17:48.

:17:48. > :17:51.elusive first win in League Two. The new rugby season gets underway

:17:51. > :17:52.this weekend. For Exeter Chiefs, it's another chance to establish

:17:52. > :17:55.themselves alongside the Premiership elite. The Cornish

:17:55. > :18:05.Pirates aim for number one status in the Championship, while Plymouth

:18:05. > :18:06.

:18:06. > :18:11.Albion hope to avoid a repeat of the relegation play-offs. The

:18:11. > :18:15.Chiefs have set up camp in the Premiership and finish well clear

:18:15. > :18:19.of relegation in their first season, raising some eyebrows along the way.

:18:19. > :18:24.The established clubs respect Exeter with their top class

:18:24. > :18:27.facilities, but with more sell out crowds set, it will be another

:18:27. > :18:31.money spinning season for the chiefs who start at Leicester.

:18:31. > :18:34.There is only so far you go before you need games to challenge

:18:34. > :18:38.yourselves and see if we're doing the right thing. I think we're in

:18:38. > :18:42.great nick and the players are looking in great can be and have

:18:42. > :18:47.bought into everything we have asked them to do. Beaten in the

:18:47. > :18:51.play off final by Worcester in Mair, the Cornish Pirates have proved

:18:51. > :18:57.their one of big shots in the second teer. Relegated Leeds will

:18:57. > :19:02.be the team to beat. The expeens of being in the final -- experience of

:19:02. > :19:06.being in the final last year will be priceless. Should we be good

:19:06. > :19:12.enough and lucky enough to get into that position again, we will be

:19:12. > :19:17.definitely better for the experience that we had in May.

:19:17. > :19:20.Plymouth Albion won't want to be dragged into another relegation

:19:20. > :19:25.battle. They retained their place in the Championship, but with no

:19:25. > :19:31.obvious candidate to go down this time, does that worry them? Well we

:19:31. > :19:35.want to be good at home. That is one of our goals. And try to

:19:35. > :19:40.strengthen our set piece game. So we have a defence as well that we

:19:40. > :19:47.can proud of and can carry on from last year. But set pieces are very

:19:47. > :19:57.important to any team. A good scrum, good defence. You are half way

:19:57. > :19:57.

:19:57. > :19:59.there. And openfully -- hopefully In cricket, Somerset are fighting

:19:59. > :20:09.to stay in their County Championship match against bottom

:20:09. > :20:14.Championship match against bottom team Hampshire at Taunton.

:20:14. > :20:20.Hampshire amassed 628. Somerset are without Marcus Trescothick and

:20:20. > :20:23.closed on 266 for seven. Cornish rower Helen Glover has moved a step

:20:23. > :20:25.closer to securing a place at next closer to securing a place at next

:20:25. > :20:27.year's London Olympics. The 25- year-old claimed a silver medal in

:20:27. > :20:30.the women's pairs alongside Heather Stanning at the World Rowing

:20:30. > :20:40.Championships in Slovenia. The result means Great Britain is now

:20:40. > :20:42.

:20:42. > :20:46.guaranteed a place in the event at the 2012 Games. It definitely be

:20:46. > :20:53.the race that makes our career, in terms of we're going to have, we

:20:53. > :20:56.want to win. That is what we're here for and we will be so pleased.

:20:56. > :20:59.Finally, East Devon's Mary King is lying in third and eighth position

:20:59. > :21:07.after dressage at the Burghley Horse Trials. That's ahead of cross

:21:08. > :21:11.country tomorrow and the showjumping on Sunday. Have a

:21:11. > :21:14.lovely weekend. And you. Thanks. A dog called Stanley has plenty to

:21:14. > :21:17.wag his tail about tonight after surviving a fifty foot fall from a

:21:17. > :21:20.hotel balcony in Cornwall. Stanley has undergone pioneering surgery

:21:20. > :21:30.and now just days after his accident, he is back on all four

:21:30. > :21:36.feet. Eleanor Parkinson reports. When Stanley was brought into the

:21:36. > :21:42.vet's, he had a broken back and crushed vertebrae. Lea had fallen -

:21:42. > :21:48.- he had fallen more than 50 feet from this hotel in Padstow. His

:21:48. > :21:52.owner say they have no idea why he jumped the wall, but he landed in

:21:52. > :21:58.shrubbery where it broke his fall. He was treated for emergency shock

:21:58. > :22:05.after the fall at the local practice. And stabilised there.

:22:05. > :22:10.That brought his shock balance down and he was stable when he came here.

:22:10. > :22:14.But his vertebrae had been crushed. Hadn't it? And he was not able the

:22:14. > :22:21.feel his back feet. He could make some attempts at walking. His tail

:22:21. > :22:27.was not moving. Stanly - eStanley underwent surgery and you can see

:22:27. > :22:33.the steel plate that has been placed alongside his spine. It was

:22:33. > :22:37.a complicated operation. But it was clear it was a success. It was two

:22:37. > :22:41.or three hours after surgery that he was about the move. His owners

:22:41. > :22:46.must be pleased? Yes they have had a rollercoaster. But they're

:22:46. > :22:51.delight and popped in to see him today. Stanley is doing so well he

:22:51. > :23:01.could leave not just a few days and the vets say he could be up for a

:23:01. > :23:05.proper Cornish walk within six weeks. Oh dear. Poor fellow. He

:23:05. > :23:10.seems to be doing all right. Yesless a brave boy. Now time for

:23:10. > :23:14.the weather. -- yes, he is a brave boy. David had a big response to

:23:14. > :23:18.the question you asked last night, what was summer like for you.

:23:18. > :23:26.had the official figures and we thought we would ask you what you

:23:26. > :23:31.thought we would ask you what you thought of the summer. We had over

:23:31. > :23:36.200 e-mail. Margaret said it was rubbish! James said the weather has

:23:36. > :23:42.been nowhere near as bad as previous years. In 2009 I lost

:23:42. > :23:48.almost four weeks during the summer. This year just four days. That was

:23:48. > :23:53.Jim. And from Keith and Carol, they think the summer has been quite

:23:53. > :23:59.good and said we have had some warm weather and it has been better than

:23:59. > :24:05.in previous years. But the summary of everything you have told us is

:24:05. > :24:11.interesting. It has been general lay cool summer. Cooler than normal.

:24:11. > :24:15.Less sunshine. But also drier than 2007 and 2008 and 2009. About the

:24:15. > :24:20.same amount of rain as 2010. But people have been saying that the

:24:20. > :24:24.rain has been coming at night, also the rain amounts have been heavy

:24:24. > :24:30.but in short space and the perception is it has been a drier

:24:30. > :24:33.summer than a few of the last few. Sofrpblgts that is the summer

:24:33. > :24:43.perception. -- so that is the summer perception. But now let's

:24:43. > :24:46.

:24:46. > :24:52.look at August. Because August in Penzance was cry -- dry. 8 is the

:24:52. > :24:57.average, just 57.4 through August. But one thing we notice the lack of

:24:57. > :25:03.sunshine. It has been a cool and a cloudy month. The average for the

:25:03. > :25:07.swers of England around 200 hours. -- South West of England.

:25:07. > :25:12.Temperatures have been down and it has been cooler than we expect.

:25:12. > :25:18.Both day time and night-time they have been down. The averages on the

:25:18. > :25:23.left and on the right what we saw in Penzance. Finally the one I know

:25:23. > :25:29.many people are interested in, is the reservoir levers. They are

:25:29. > :25:36.still down. This -- levels. They are still down. About 69% full at

:25:36. > :25:41.the moment. 55.7% full. So we need some more rain. Now the forecast.

:25:41. > :25:46.We have got some unsettled conditions heading N more sun

:25:46. > :25:51.settled and cooler. We have had 24 degrees today. But this line of

:25:51. > :25:55.cloud will start to produce some rain. It is a long way off. But it

:25:55. > :25:59.is creeping towards us. By the end of day tomorrow most of us turning

:25:59. > :26:02.out damp. The reason for that, an area of low pressure. This is the

:26:02. > :26:06.front that will bring the changement as that moves in, it

:26:06. > :26:11.will increase the wind and a lot of cloud and rain. And we're between

:26:11. > :26:16.front on Sunday. So brighter on Sunday. With more wet weather in

:26:16. > :26:20.the afternoon. This was the picture from earlier, there has been a lot

:26:20. > :26:27.of fine weather. In the last few hour, there is a line of showers.

:26:27. > :26:33.But most of us have a fine evening. Earlier we had unbroken sunshine

:26:33. > :26:38.here. It wasn't just here. We went further down to Cornwall and the

:26:38. > :26:43.blue skies continued. This is a fine story, right at the wrong time.

:26:43. > :26:48.As which move into the weekend, a lot more cloud coming our way and

:26:48. > :26:53.that will produce some rain. So let's look at the forecast. We do

:26:53. > :26:58.have some patchy rain tomorrow. That band of cloud and rain will

:26:58. > :27:03.spill in from the north and affect parts of west Cornwall, into the

:27:03. > :27:07.northern half of Devon. For the rest of us the mist and fog are a

:27:07. > :27:09.problem tonight and temperature down to 11 degree. Tomorrow morning,

:27:09. > :27:14.some brightness, particularly in Dorset and Somerset. Otherwise it

:27:14. > :27:19.is cloudy and here comes that line of rain. Creeping in through day.

:27:19. > :27:23.And after the warmth and the sunshine of today, it will be much

:27:23. > :27:29.cooler tomorrow. Top temperature of just 19 or 20 degrees. Again thanks
