:00:00. > :00:11.That is all from the News At Six, goodbye
:00:12. > :00:16.The Royal Marine who murdered an Afghan insurgent ` the legal battle
:00:17. > :00:24.over whether his identity should be revealed.
:00:25. > :00:27.Good evening. Judges are deciding if Marine A should be named, but one of
:00:28. > :00:34.his former comrades says that would have serious consequences. I think
:00:35. > :00:42.it would be a travesty if the details were made public it is a set
:00:43. > :00:45.serious security risk. The Christian guesthouse owners who
:00:46. > :00:47.refused a room to a gay couple lose the latest round in their legal
:00:48. > :00:51.battle. On your bike ` the residents living
:00:52. > :00:55.near a new cycle trail have dubbed its users lycra louts. And seizing
:00:56. > :01:00.the day ` the pensioner who's joined the growing trend for tattoos.
:01:01. > :01:04.The naming of a Plymouth based Royal Marine who's been found guilty of
:01:05. > :01:09.murder would put his life at risk and the lives of his family. That's
:01:10. > :01:12.the claim from lawyers who are fighting to protect the identity of
:01:13. > :01:15.the man known only as Marine A. Judges are considering whether his
:01:16. > :01:19.name should be revealed, but tonight a former comrade of Marine A has
:01:20. > :01:30.said if that happens it would be a travesty. Spotlight's John Henderson
:01:31. > :01:39.reports. I cannot stress how I read this that too was. It was a
:01:40. > :01:51.miserable existence. We were very tired. He was at the limits. At the
:01:52. > :01:56.limits and guilty of murder. Earlier this month the Royal Marine was
:01:57. > :02:05.convicted of murder. During the trial he was known as marine a,
:02:06. > :02:14.because he and two others were granted anonymity. Lawyers argued
:02:15. > :02:19.that making their identities public could make them and their families
:02:20. > :02:26.potential targets for jihadist. But the judge said there identities
:02:27. > :02:34.should be made public. But one of their colleagues disagrees. It would
:02:35. > :02:44.be a travesty if the details were handed out. It would pose a serious
:02:45. > :02:52.security risk. It is not the right thing to do. They deserve their
:02:53. > :02:59.privacy. The case has now gone before the court martial appeal
:03:00. > :03:04.court. Some in this village think the Royal Marines should keep their
:03:05. > :03:13.anonymity. Yes, for their own safety. They go through enough. His
:03:14. > :03:17.family would have to bear the consequences if his name was
:03:18. > :03:27.released. It is not fair on the family. I do not think he should go
:03:28. > :03:34.to prison. It was a difficult situation a former troop commander
:03:35. > :03:40.had this to say. If he does not have anonymity every jihadist will go
:03:41. > :03:57.after them. When he has released he will have done his time, but they
:03:58. > :04:02.will go after him. Marine A is due to be sentenced next
:04:03. > :04:11.week. A former colleague what leniency.
:04:12. > :04:16.The owners of a Christian guesthouse in Cornwall who refused to rent a
:04:17. > :04:21.double room to a gay couple have lost the latest round in their legal
:04:22. > :04:24.battle. In 2008 Peter and Hazelmary Bull turned away civil partners
:04:25. > :04:32.Steven Preddy and Martyn Hall from the Chymorvah Guesthouse. Bristol
:04:33. > :04:35.County Court later ruled that was discriminatory and ordered them to
:04:36. > :04:39.pay damages. Mr and Mrs Bull asked the Court of Appeal to overturn that
:04:40. > :04:42.decision but that was rejected. And today, a further appeal to the
:04:43. > :04:50.Supreme Court was dismissed as well. With more, here's our reporter Clare
:04:51. > :04:55.Burton. A bed and breakfast business, but
:04:56. > :05:01.also the home of devout Christians Peter and Hazelmary Bull. They say
:05:02. > :05:04.they are Christian beliefs mean they cannot allow any and married couple
:05:05. > :05:14.to share a double bed under the roof. The Bible only recognises
:05:15. > :05:23.heterosexual marriage. So they turned away these civil partners.
:05:24. > :05:30.Now every stage of the British legal system agrees that there is direct
:05:31. > :05:35.discrimination. If a homosexual couple denied a room to Christians
:05:36. > :05:47.because of their beliefs that would be equally unlawful.
:05:48. > :05:56.This court had the opportunity to show more fair`mindedness. I am
:05:57. > :05:59.disappointed in them. They did not take that opportunity to make room
:06:00. > :06:08.for an alternative lifestyle and for our lifestyle. Earlier this year the
:06:09. > :06:12.Bulls announced the our selling the guest house because they have lost
:06:13. > :06:19.so much as this. It has been bad press for Cornwall also. Today to
:06:20. > :06:30.list losses were keen to stress that Cornwall was open for everybody's
:06:31. > :06:39.business. Cheat them well. `` treat them well. That is what tourist

:07:06. > :07:08.Is this something the government wants to introduce anyway? Yes and
:07:09. > :07:12.no. The Water Bill which has been
:07:13. > :07:18.discussed in the Commons this week plans to extend that kind of choice
:07:19. > :07:20.to us this is across the country. The environment secretary said the

:07:25. > :07:33.extended to domestic customers. At the moment only 40% of customers
:07:34. > :07:48.have water meters. It would need universal metering to make it work.
:07:49. > :07:54.In Devon and Cornwall we already have 80% water meter coverage. I am
:07:55. > :08:00.asking the government to consider using Devon and Cornwall as a pilot

:10:25. > :10:29.whatsoever. Here is evidence of problems caused
