:00:14. > :00:17.Good evening. Severe weather warnings have been issued for the

:00:18. > :00:20.south`west tonight. Gale force winds are expected to bring further

:00:21. > :00:23.disruption to coastal communities. And the Environment Agency say more

:00:24. > :00:27.severe weather is on its way over the next few days. Emma Thomasson is

:00:28. > :00:36.in Bude in Cornwall, where there is a severe flood warning. Emma. A real

:00:37. > :00:41.sense of here we go again in place`macro. As you were saying, a

:00:42. > :00:46.severe flood warnings in place for the whole town of Bute, and that is

:00:47. > :00:52.where the Environment Agency judges there is a danger to life. The sea

:00:53. > :00:57.is already topping the sea walls here. The water is coming up through

:00:58. > :01:01.the drains as well. As you can probably see behind me, the

:01:02. > :01:06.floodwaters come straight up the road. We have sandbags out here.

:01:07. > :01:10.Nearby properties have not been evacuated. Authorities did ask

:01:11. > :01:16.people to leave their homes last night, but many people chose to stay

:01:17. > :01:21.put. Harry was one of them. You are always anxious. You can't help

:01:22. > :01:29.feeling a bit anxious, but I hope we will be all right. People here quite

:01:30. > :01:35.philosophical about the flooding. We have even had kayakers and surfers

:01:36. > :01:40.taking advantage of these tidal surges, and surfing down the river.

:01:41. > :01:44.Many people out here watching them do that. The surfers and kayakers

:01:45. > :01:49.are ignoring the safety warnings. We have a couple of hours before the

:01:50. > :01:53.water is expected to receive. The Environment Agency is concerned

:01:54. > :01:57.about what will happen tomorrow morning. It has downgraded it to a

:01:58. > :02:02.flood warning, the next level to what we have in place now. Tomorrow

:02:03. > :02:08.is expected to be the second highest tide of the year, so it's not over

:02:09. > :02:11.yet. Thank you. A van driver's walked away with

:02:12. > :02:14.minor injuries, after his vehicle crashed over a bridge and plunged

:02:15. > :02:17.20ft into the fast flowing River Tamar. The partially`submerged

:02:18. > :02:19.transit van came to rest near Gunnislake after the accident early

:02:20. > :02:27.this morning. John Henderson reports.

:02:28. > :02:32.A broken bridge, a 20 foot drop into the River Tay Ma, and, 200 yards

:02:33. > :02:36.downstream, a partially submerged transit van. And incredibly, the

:02:37. > :02:45.driver managed to hail himself to safety. As far as we're aware, the

:02:46. > :02:50.driver was with the vehicle throughout, and he his escape when

:02:51. > :02:54.it came to arrest. We don't know where the driver of the fan managed

:02:55. > :02:58.to get out of the river, but there's his vehicle pointing up towards the

:02:59. > :03:01.bridge. It really is an incredible escape. It happened at about 9am

:03:02. > :03:07.this morning. It appears the van was crossing the bridge from Cornwall

:03:08. > :03:11.when something went wrong. Sometimes lorries scraped the side of it,

:03:12. > :03:17.because it's very narrow. Occasionally the car will hit the

:03:18. > :03:19.corner there. That is the most serious accident we've had here for

:03:20. > :03:23.a long time. The van driver, a 30`year`old man believed to be from

:03:24. > :03:30.the area, was taken to Plymouth's Derriford Hospital. But he's thought

:03:31. > :03:34.to have only minor injuries. It's a very pleasant surprise to find that

:03:35. > :03:39.somebody is actually OK after such a fall and a trip down the river of

:03:40. > :03:43.such a length. It's likely that the bridge will be closed for a week.

:03:44. > :03:45.The driver is one very lucky man. John Henderson, BBC Spotlight,

:03:46. > :03:48.Gunnislake. In football, Exeter City drew 1`1

:03:49. > :03:52.with Burton Albion, and Plymouth Argyle also drew 1`1 with Mansfield

:03:53. > :04:01.Town. But Torquay come away with victory from Portsmouth by a single

:04:02. > :04:10.goal. In Rugby, Exeter Chiefs came away

:04:11. > :04:17.victorious from Worcester Warriors. Now for a look at the weather.

:04:18. > :04:21.We have strong winds and heavy showers throughout this evening. We

:04:22. > :04:27.do have a Met Office yellow warning for winds in force. High tides could

:04:28. > :04:31.lead to a risk of flooding. Those winds are easing down this evening,

:04:32. > :04:36.and the line of heavy showers tend to become more of a scattering

:04:37. > :04:42.through the night. Those winds stopping it getting too cold. For

:04:43. > :04:47.tomorrow, it's a blustery day, though not as windy as today. We've

:04:48. > :04:53.got some sharp showers in place, fewer than today, and more in the

:04:54. > :04:57.way of sunny spells. Monday, we have some further wet and windy

:04:58. > :05:02.conditions on the way, with a Met Office yellow warning for rain in

:05:03. > :05:04.force. You'll Athere are live updates on the weather on BBC

:05:05. > :05:27.Cornwall this evening. Goodbye. Heavy downpours in places tonight

:05:28. > :05:28.but strong winds and with the tides peaking again, still
