:00:10. > :00:12.Good evening. The high capacity Dutch pumps on the flooded Somerset
:00:13. > :00:18.Levels have had to be turned off because of damage to the riverbank.
:00:19. > :00:21.The pumps had already moved a million tonnes of water. Engineers
:00:22. > :00:26.are now looking at ways of stabilising the bank. Meanwhile, for
:00:27. > :00:29.many people who live in the Somerset Levels there is still no end in
:00:30. > :00:32.sight to the flooding. Sedgemoor District Council opened a rest
:00:33. > :00:35.centre in Bridgwater two weeks ago, offering families food, showers and
:00:36. > :00:39.somewhere to take stock and plan. A man whose house is now waist high in
:00:40. > :00:43.water who used the rest centre on the first day it opened returned
:00:44. > :00:46.today to say thank you. He has spoken of how grateful he is for its
:00:47. > :00:52.work and talked emotionally about the day he had to leave his home.
:00:53. > :00:57.From the time we walked in, they were so caring, they looked after
:00:58. > :01:01.us. We were the first ones to get here in the morning. Absolutely
:01:02. > :01:06.wonderful, without them we had nowhere to go. The photographs of
:01:07. > :01:12.when we got married, our honeymoon, the things that my wife's family
:01:13. > :01:18.gave her that's come down through families, it's all gone. How can you
:01:19. > :01:24.replace that. I anticipate we won't get back for at least a year.
:01:25. > :01:28.Elsewhere and train services have resumed this afternoon on the main
:01:29. > :01:31.line in Cornwall. The line between Plymouth and west Cornwall was
:01:32. > :01:34.closed on Friday due to storm damage. On the main line at Dawlish
:01:35. > :01:37.meanwhile, engineers are still assessing the damage caused by
:01:38. > :01:39.Friday night's storm. Network Rail remains hopeful it won't
:01:40. > :01:43.significantly delay repairs. Part of a Dorset beach has been cordoned off
:01:44. > :01:47.following a large cliff fall. The landslip on East Cliff Beach at West
:01:48. > :01:50.Bay happened at yesterday afternoon. The emergency services are warning
:01:51. > :01:54.people to stay away from the cliffs. Wildlife rescuers say hundreds of
:01:55. > :01:57.dead and oiled birds are washing up along the south west coast following
:01:58. > :02:00.the recent storms. It's reported that more than 20 dead puffins,
:02:01. > :02:03.guillemots and razor bills were found on the beach at Thurlstone
:02:04. > :02:06.yesterday. Many other oiled and storm blown birds are being cared
:02:07. > :02:11.for at the South Devon Seabird Trust in Teignmouth. There will be several
:02:12. > :02:17.hundred birds that have been affected by this. We have had nearly
:02:18. > :02:20.50 now and other people that we know have picked up a similar number. But
:02:21. > :02:28.it's the dead ones, they're washing up dead in their hundreds all along
:02:29. > :02:30.the coast. Volunteers across Cornwall have taken advantage of
:02:31. > :02:34.today's calmer weather to clear litter from some of its most popular
:02:35. > :02:38.beaches. With many visitors expected for the half term break, Cornwall
:02:39. > :02:40.Council is keen to ensure the county is looking its best despite the
:02:41. > :02:48.storm damage. Spotlight's Chloe Axford reports. Be careful because
:02:49. > :02:51.there's bits of sharp glass. Carl and his three children are among
:02:52. > :02:55.dozens of families who have turned out on Fistral Beach to help pick up
:02:56. > :02:58.litter which has been left by the storm. Carl, who runs educational
:02:59. > :03:05.safaris on the beach says keeping it clean is vital. I run a local
:03:06. > :03:08.business, I actually run businesses where we teach children about this
:03:09. > :03:12.environment and local schools come down. So it is important for me to
:03:13. > :03:15.make sure that everyone knows Cornwall is open, we are OK, come
:03:16. > :03:21.down and enjoy this beautiful environment with us. In just a short
:03:22. > :03:24.space of time, lots of rubbish has been collected. Large bits of
:03:25. > :03:28.plastic. Even a bit of old tyre here. You can just see, if you put
:03:29. > :03:33.it on the sand it just doesn't belong. The beach clean has been
:03:34. > :03:36.organised by Volunteer Cornwall in conjunction with Cornwall Council.
:03:37. > :03:40.Following the storms that we have had the beaches were in a bit of a
:03:41. > :03:44.state and we thought back to the aftermath of the riots in Tottenham
:03:45. > :03:47.and people taking to the streets with their brushes and broom to
:03:48. > :03:51.clear up and this is really the Cornish version of that. So this is
:03:52. > :03:55.us taking to the beaches with our bin bags and gloves to pick up all
:03:56. > :03:59.the litter that the storm has washed up. This is one of ten beach cleans
:04:00. > :04:01.taking place across Cornwall. The council is keen to convince
:04:02. > :04:05.potential holiday makers that the beach is still a great place to
:04:06. > :04:08.come, despite the recent stormy weather. Fortunately for them today
:04:09. > :04:11.the sun is shining. Sadly, the sunshine isn't expected to last, but
:04:12. > :04:21.people here are keen to ensure that nobody is put off coming to see this
:04:22. > :04:24.beautiful spot for themselves. A ceremony has been held at St Agnes
:04:25. > :04:28.in Cornwall to bless the scattering of a quarter of a million poppy
:04:29. > :04:31.seeds to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of World
:04:32. > :04:33.War One. Organiser George Mannell, whose own father suffered shell
:04:34. > :04:36.shock during the war, says the flowers are a chance for local
:04:37. > :04:44.people to remember the sacrifices made. Well, I like to think that the
:04:45. > :04:49.village has taken part in it, you know? It is a hundred years, so it
:04:50. > :04:54.is up to us to do something about it. That is how I feel. The
:04:55. > :05:03.community do a bit to thank those who died for us. Onto the weather
:05:04. > :05:06.now, and here's Holly. Hello there, we saw some beautiful blue skies
:05:07. > :05:11.today, but tonight things are going down hill. We have got rain pushing
:05:12. > :05:14.in and we have a Met Office yellow warning for that rain. We could see
:05:15. > :05:18.20 millimetres or so falling tonight and tomorrow, elevating the flooding
:05:19. > :05:21.risk once again. So a few showers around initially, they replaced by
:05:22. > :05:26.outbreaks of rain during the night. The winds will pick up at times as
:05:27. > :05:30.well. Lows in the region of five to seven degrees. So we start tomorrow
:05:31. > :05:35.with outbreaks of rain from the word go. And they will continue on and
:05:36. > :05:39.off through the bulk of day. We could see coastal gales as well, but
:05:40. > :05:42.those winds not comparable with the winds we have been seeing over
:05:43. > :05:44.recent days. Thereafter, Tuesday and Wednesday bring bright spells and
:05:45. > :05:52.showers, but Wednesday night and Thursday turn wet and windy. That is
:05:53. > :05:55.all for now. I'm back at the later than normal time of 20 past 11.
:05:56. > :06:00.Bye`bye for now. Until then, have a very good
:06:01. > :06:17.evening. Whilst we are talking about wet and
:06:18. > :06:18.windy weather in the
