:00:19. > :00:22.as it attacked Horatio Chapple but the rifle wouldn't fire.

:00:29. > :00:31.The expedition leader Michadl Reid told the coroner's court ex`ctly

:00:32. > :00:36.what happened on that morning of the 5th of August three xears ago

:00:37. > :00:39.when the polar bear rampaged through the camp they set up on this

:00:40. > :00:45.He woke early to cries of "bear attack!"

:00:46. > :00:49.from some of the teenagers in the tents nearby.

:00:50. > :00:52.He picked up the rifle and rushed out of the tent `nd

:00:53. > :00:55.when he got outside he saw ` polar bear mauling one of the grotp who

:00:56. > :01:01.He tried repeatedly to shoot the animal but the rifle simply did not

:01:02. > :01:04.work, the bear turned on hil and he wrestled with it and tried to gouge

:01:05. > :01:12.The bear turned away and he managed to shoot it dead

:01:13. > :01:16.The court heard from the other leader Andrew Ruck

:01:17. > :01:23.He said he was thrown to the ground by the bear,

:01:24. > :01:27.he came face`to`face with it as its paws were on his shoulder and its

:01:28. > :01:35.Both of them also talked about the safety precautions around the camp

:01:36. > :01:40.and Michael Reid admitted hd knew the camp was supplied with ` faulty

:01:41. > :01:44.tripwire system but he said he was happy with the modifications the

:01:45. > :01:48.group made using a paper clhp and he said otherwise he wotld not

:01:49. > :01:52.have gone to bed the night before after he checked it.

:01:53. > :01:59.The inquest lasts until the end of the week.

:02:31. > :02:36.with serious injuries in Prhnce of Wales Road at 2:20am.

:02:37. > :02:42.He was taken to Derriford Hospital and later pronounced dead.

:02:43. > :02:45.Lee Andrew Dent from East Portlemouth near Salcombe spoke only

:02:46. > :02:50.He has been remanded in custody to appear before

:02:51. > :02:56.There was no application for bail, reporting restrictions were not

:02:57. > :03:01.Tributes have been left near the bus station in Kingsbridge for

:03:02. > :03:07.the teenager who was at one time a youth player with Plymouth @rgyle.

:04:37. > :04:39.There's double yellow lines and Devon Counmcil don't bother to

:04:40. > :04:48.Local people claim just one traffic warden has been patrolling on`street

:04:49. > :04:52.parking across the whole district for much of the last three lonths.

:04:53. > :04:56.This driver was parked illegally in Bideford.

:04:57. > :04:58.Devon's district and borough councils used to be responshble for

:04:59. > :05:04.In April, Devon County Council took over responsibility

:05:05. > :05:10.The claim from Torridge is they are not doing the job properly.

:05:11. > :05:15.People are parking on doubld yellow lines without a tickdt.

:05:16. > :05:21.It is affecting the businesses throughout the district and people

:05:22. > :05:26.are aware that people are not enforcing it and taking adv`ntage.

:05:27. > :05:31.It is stopping people from legitimately spending loney

:05:32. > :05:38.Figures obtained by the BBC show a 50% fall in the number of tickets

:05:39. > :05:41.for illegal street parking across the whole of Torridgd.

:05:42. > :05:49.Last year, 563 were issued, in April May this year it w`s 2 8.

:05:50. > :05:52.Devon County Council refutes the claims.
