:01:53. > :01:55.The East Devon town of Seaton has today been honoured for its part

:01:56. > :01:57.in helping American forces prepare for the D`Day landings.

:01:58. > :01:59.A number of American troops were based there for training,

:02:00. > :02:02.ahead of the assaults on thd beaches of Normandy 70 years ago.

:02:03. > :02:05.As Hamish Marshall reports, the son of one American veteran tod`y said,

:02:06. > :02:12.Military honours for the part of the people of Seaton played in helping

:02:13. > :02:15.the war effort. The first US troops to reach Utah Beach on D`Dax trained

:02:16. > :02:18.alongside the home guard unht here and were welcomed to the town. One

:02:19. > :02:21.of those Americans was comp`ny Sergeant Major Robert Rutten. 7

:02:22. > :02:24.years on, his son was here today. He led a campaign for an offichal thank

:02:25. > :02:28.you to be put in place. You could see it in their eyes and faces as

:02:29. > :02:32.they walked down the villagd lanes and stood in front of the b`r or the

:02:33. > :02:35.house down there by the beach. They were happy. They did all thdir

:02:36. > :02:38.training with the home guard here in Seaton. They didn't get sent out

:02:39. > :02:41.with the rest of the regiment. It was very unusual and special. The

:02:42. > :02:43.memorial remembers the men of 2nd Battalion, eighth infantry Regiment.

:02:44. > :02:48.Three quarters of them died on D`Day. Anyone reading the plaque

:02:49. > :02:55.will know what a contribution the American soldiers

:02:56. > :02:59.made. It is such a story th`t those Americans went over to D`Dax and the

:03:00. > :03:02.last memory was of Seaton. On the 70th anniversary of D`Day, Seaton's

:03:03. > :03:13.hospitality will be forgottdn no more.

:03:14. > :03:15.And finally, a fish which is reported to be worth as

:03:16. > :03:18.much as ?1 million has been landed on a Cornish beach this weekend

:03:19. > :03:21.The 300lb tuna fish was discovered floating in the water at Kingsand

:03:22. > :03:25.They brought it ashore on their kayaks before experts identhfied

:03:26. > :03:29.The species is endangered and it's illegal to catch

:03:30. > :03:34.The find has been reported to the authorities and will be transported

:03:35. > :03:58.to the University of Exeter in Falmouth tomorrow for examination.
