:01:17. > :01:18.She's spoken exclusively to Spotlight's Scott Bingham.

:01:37. > :01:44.The moment a red Ford Fiest` ploughed into spectators at the cat

:01:45. > :01:48.meat just before 10pm on Saturday night. 16`year`old Megan Whhtlock

:01:49. > :01:53.struck the windscreen of thd vehicle. She remembers little about

:01:54. > :02:01.the collision. I was watching the cars and Ben I felt really dizzy,

:02:02. > :02:07.like I'd been hit. Then I opened my ice. Loads of people were crowding

:02:08. > :02:14.around me. People were taking pictures. Obviously, then I was in

:02:15. > :02:20.the ambulance. She suffered cuts and bruising but knows it could have

:02:21. > :02:25.been so much worse. I've had my arm and back checked. It's just a case

:02:26. > :02:31.of waiting for it to heal. H think I'm pretty lucky, really. C`r

:02:32. > :02:39.enthusiast Stuart Bell was `lso at Saturday's meat. There's a time and

:02:40. > :02:45.place for it. People try to do it harder, longer and faster. @ccidents

:02:46. > :02:48.are going to happen. Similar events have been taking place at the Crown

:02:49. > :02:53.Hill retail park for a numbdr of years. They are organised bx social

:02:54. > :02:58.media. Saturday's events took place without the knowledge or consent of

:02:59. > :03:03.B with their landlords, who owns the site and car park. Police often

:03:04. > :03:07.attend the gathering is, watching from a distance. These events have

:03:08. > :03:12.gone on for a period of timd, over several years, with no incident

:03:13. > :03:17.happening. We do have to police them as a city, not just a car p`rk. As a

:03:18. > :03:23.result of previous incidents, we do need to review how we policd these

:03:24. > :03:28.and work with the local landowners to see how we can ensure safety and

:03:29. > :03:32.mitigate the risk of these dvents, that have clearly shown how

:03:33. > :03:37.dangerous they can be. Officers they 17 people were treated in hospital

:03:38. > :03:40.after the collision and 19 xou `` a 19`year`old man was arrested on

:03:41. > :03:43.suspicion of dangerous drivhng and has been released on police bail.

:03:44. > :03:46.The veterans' charity Help for Heroes have condemned a Devon

:03:47. > :03:48.fundraiser who stole hundreds of thousands of pounds from them

:03:49. > :03:52.as "devious and calculated" in the way he exploited public goodwill.

:03:53. > :03:56.Christopher Copeland today `dmitted carrying out an 18 month fr`ud,

:03:57. > :04:00.recruiting teams of voluntedrs to collect money at shopping cdntres

:04:01. > :04:05.A senior detective said Copdland was "motivated by pure greed".

:04:06. > :04:08.Our home affairs corresponddnt Simon Hall reports from

:04:09. > :04:26.Help For Heroes captured thd nation's heart when it was set up to

:04:27. > :04:31.help injured veterans. At an increasingly high profile sdries of

:04:32. > :04:33.events, it has raised ?200 lillion and has attracted supporters

:04:34. > :04:38.including the Royal Family `nd celebrities. Today Christopher

:04:39. > :04:45.Copeland from Devon admitted stealing hundreds of thousands of

:04:46. > :04:50.pounds from the charity. I'l feeling very humble at the moment. Would you

:04:51. > :04:56.like to apologise for what xou have done? Absolutely. It was not my

:04:57. > :05:01.intention. How can it not bd intentional? I try to do solething

:05:02. > :05:05.that was really good and I lessed it up. How could you messed solething

:05:06. > :05:13.up, you would if rodding hundreds of thousands of pounds? It was not

:05:14. > :05:18.intentional. You set out to deliberately defraud the public of

:05:19. > :05:22.hundreds of thousands of potnds I did not. Explain how it could have

:05:23. > :05:29.been a mistake. I cannot. I really have nothing to say. That is leave

:05:30. > :05:32.it at that, I'm sorry. Ye assemble teams of volunteers to colldct money

:05:33. > :05:38.at shopping centres across Dngland and Wales and kept the monex. He

:05:39. > :05:44.stole a total of ?300,000, the court heard, over an 18 month perhod. I

:05:45. > :05:49.think his motivation was grded. I think he has seen an opporttnity and

:05:50. > :05:53.`` whereby he can pull in v`st amounts of money over a long period

:05:54. > :06:10.of time. It is pure greed. Help For Heroes told us:

:06:11. > :06:17.Help For Heroes says such fraud against charitable fundraisdrs `` it

:06:18. > :06:21.is now working with police to recover some of the stolen loney.

:06:22. > :06:26.Copeland will be sentenced on the 15th of September. The judgd told

:06:27. > :06:29.the court, it was difficult to imagine a more aggravating feature

:06:30. > :06:33.of the case and stealing from a charity like Help For Heroes. He

:06:34. > :06:40.warned couplings that he faces a lengthy prison sentence.

:06:41. > :06:42.A second man has been chargdd in connection with the murddr

:06:43. > :06:44.of a 17 year old footballer in Kingsbridge.42

:06:45. > :06:47.year old Lee Dent was chargdd earlier this month with murdering

:06:48. > :06:49.Alex Peguero`Sosa at a taxi rank in the town.

:06:50. > :06:52.Now, 22 year old Henry Felton, from Fore Street, in Kingsbridge,

:06:53. > :06:54.has been charged with assisting an offender and perverting

:06:55. > :07:00.Two of Cornwall's main healthcare providers are considering mdrging to

:07:01. > :07:05.Peninsula Community Health `nd the Cornwall Partnership NHS Fotndation

:07:06. > :07:16.Trust provide community healthcare and mental health services.

:07:17. > :07:19.Families of vulnerable adults say they'll take legal action to stop

:07:20. > :07:21.a specialist residential care home from closing.

:07:22. > :07:23.Bystock Court, which cares for more than 40 people in Dxmouth,

:07:24. > :07:27.Relatives are worried their loved ones won't be able to

:07:28. > :07:36.Spotlight's Andrea Ormsby has this exclusive report.

:07:37. > :07:43.Tom Spicer is 42 and has lived here at Bystock Court for more than 5

:07:44. > :07:57.years. Today he found out that they would close. Are people worried

:07:58. > :08:01.Yes. Is anyone excited? No. Tom needs space. He has a lot of friends

:08:02. > :08:06.around here, a lot of peopld he has known for a long time. I know that

:08:07. > :08:12.he was happy here. What happens next, I don't know. That re`lly

:08:13. > :08:16.worries me. These are the most vulnerable people in our society. We

:08:17. > :08:21.really do have a responsibility to care for them. Relatives gathered

:08:22. > :08:27.outside this afternoon after hearing the news. We are really concerned

:08:28. > :08:31.about the vulnerability. People who have lived in sheltered

:08:32. > :08:33.accommodation and wish to lhve in sheltered accommodation of their

:08:34. > :08:37.life are suddenly out into the community. They will have stpport

:08:38. > :08:41.that it is not going to be the same as the community they have had. It

:08:42. > :08:48.people open to abuse, I'm afraid. In people open to abuse, I'm afraid. In

:08:49. > :08:52.a statement, Devon sheltered homes said a decision had not been made

:08:53. > :08:57.lightly. They say, with a ntmber of customers, a similar servicd will

:08:58. > :09:04.not be viable in future. Thdy plan to provide care in smaller houses.

:09:05. > :09:15.I'm beside myself, I really am. I am so upset. At the end of the day it

:09:16. > :09:20.is pen pushers sat behind ddsks that don't care what is happening. I

:09:21. > :09:26.would like these decision`m`kers to take my brother for the weekend and

:09:27. > :09:31.look after him. They were to really understand what this place `ctually

:09:32. > :09:34.means to people like my brother The relatives say they will now take

:09:35. > :09:41.legal action to try to keep Bystock Court open.

:09:42. > :09:44.There's anger in North Devon this evening over plans for a power plant

:09:45. > :09:46.that would turn thousands of tonnes of rubbish into electricity.

:09:47. > :09:48.The development, near Great Torrington, would be the

:09:49. > :09:52.Local people are worried about both its size and about noise levels

:09:53. > :10:06.People here are worried abott what is planned for advanced not far from

:10:07. > :10:11.the end of the garden. Just over this had `` just over the other side

:10:12. > :10:17.of that tree, it's just going to be at the other side. A scheme that

:10:18. > :10:24.would turn rubbish into powdr. My concerns are the noise, the visual

:10:25. > :10:28.impact. It is going to be enormous. It is not a small plants, it is

:10:29. > :10:39.going to be enormous. I don't think people realise. I feel absolutely

:10:40. > :10:45.heartbroken. The couple's btngalow and scrap metal business is next to

:10:46. > :10:50.the landfill site which will soon be filled. A gasification plant is now

:10:51. > :10:55.instead. It will be heated tp to instead. It will be heated tp to

:10:56. > :11:07.create electricity. The schdme's chimney is bigger than the local

:11:08. > :11:09.church spire. The owners of Dick Morris Devon waste management argued

:11:10. > :11:14.that the noise and visual ilpact would be limited by the sitd, which

:11:15. > :11:24.has been excavated and is strrounded by trees. It takes time and landfill

:11:25. > :11:27.is rapidly running out. Tre`ting the waist and getting energy and heat

:11:28. > :11:31.from it is a viable long`term solution. A government inspdctor

:11:32. > :11:37.will decide later this year on the project's future. Locals sax after

:11:38. > :11:38.years of living with landfill, this is the last thing they wantdd to

:11:39. > :11:47.happen. It's been another busy day

:11:48. > :11:50.at the Commonwealth Games for There's been

:11:51. > :11:52.a fifth bronze medal for our competitors, it's make or break for

:11:53. > :11:55.Devon's Giselle Ansley in the hockey and Plymouth's Ben Proud eyds up

:11:56. > :11:58.more success in the swimming pool. With all that and more, we can join

:11:59. > :12:07.Spotlight's Dave Gibbins who's in Hi, Natalie. Here we are on the

:12:08. > :12:11.banks of the River Clyde. Wd start with the man he was proud to be

:12:12. > :12:17.called Ben. After winning gold at the weekend, in the 50 metrds

:12:18. > :12:22.butterfly, the question is can he repeated that sort of performance in

:12:23. > :12:27.the 50 metres freestyle? Th`t is the semifinal line`up tonight. He

:12:28. > :12:32.qualified this morning and loves on to the final tomorrow. This is one

:12:33. > :12:37.of Ben's most favourite events. I mean, it depends how everxone else

:12:38. > :12:41.is swimming but the 50 freestyle is I'll just see how it goes

:12:42. > :13:08.and expect good things. The Aussies took a two no h`lf`time

:13:09. > :13:11.lead, adding another one in the second half. It is all not lost for

:13:12. > :13:16.England because they have bdat Scotland on Wednesday and they will

:13:17. > :13:19.progress to the semifinals. Giselle Ansley bridge is a defender in the

:13:20. > :13:22.England team. She knows what needs to be done.

:13:23. > :13:25.All we can ask for is a really tough performance out there

:13:26. > :13:28.We're obviously moving forw`rd to the next game,

:13:29. > :13:42.So, yeah, it's looking really positivd.

:13:43. > :13:52.Congratulations to Sam. His clubmate from the bowling club in Torquay, he

:13:53. > :13:58.was 25 today, happy birthdax. She won her first round Paris g`me

:13:59. > :14:01.against the Cook Islands. On to athletics and the Cornish athlete,

:14:02. > :14:07.Jemma Simpson, who now resides in Oregon in the United date, was fifth

:14:08. > :14:10.in her heat today. She was the 2th fastest in the 1,500 metres. The

:14:11. > :14:16.final is tomorrow night at Hamden Park. That'll be around 10pl. It has

:14:17. > :14:19.been a busy day here in Glasgow There will be more family at the

:14:20. > :14:23.same time, same place, same channel tomorrow evening.

:14:24. > :14:25.A racehorse trainer is celebrating after scoring a hat trick

:14:26. > :14:29.Martin Hill says it was his best result to date.

:14:30. > :14:32.His jockey Hayden Frost says winning is in his blood.

:14:33. > :14:34.Not surprising when you consider his father won the Grand National

:14:35. > :14:43.Three winners in one fantastic day at Newton Abbot.

:14:44. > :14:46.One Devon jockey, Hayden Frost, and one trainer, Martin Hill.

:14:47. > :14:51.All local, all the owners wdre local, ridden by Hayden who I've

:14:52. > :15:16.His dad rode my very first winner in 1979 or something.

:15:17. > :15:20.Hayden's dad is none other than Jimmy Frost from Dartmoor.

:15:21. > :15:35.What do you think has rubbed off on you from your dad?

:15:36. > :15:38.We just get on a horse and ride first and then worry

:15:39. > :15:41.about what was supposed to be said or done afterwards.

:15:42. > :15:49.Would you like to win the Grand National?

:15:50. > :15:53.Martin says three winners in one day is big news, espdcially

:15:54. > :15:57.It would be the same as Martin Pipe or Paul Nicholls winning streak

:15:58. > :16:00.on the day because, as a percentage of what we got

:16:01. > :16:18.They don't come much better than this.

:16:19. > :16:20.Next tonight, a rare insect has stopped a Devon village

:16:21. > :16:24.The scaly cricket is so important that work can't go

:16:25. > :16:27.ahead in Branscombe on repahrs to damage caused by the winter storms!

:16:28. > :16:29.Some chalets were left hanghng in mid`air by the bad weathdr.

:16:30. > :16:32.But Natural England says thd species is important because it's only found

:16:33. > :16:35.Spotlight's environment correspondent Adrian

:16:36. > :16:42.Branscombe Beach was devast`ted by this winter's storms.

:16:43. > :16:44.Beach huts were left hanging in thin air and since then,

:16:45. > :16:48.there's been a concerted effort by local people to reconstrtct

:16:49. > :16:58.On a sunny day such as todax, you expect to see lots

:16:59. > :17:01.of people enjoying themselvds on the beach but, when it comes to scaly

:17:02. > :17:04.crickets, it's very difficult to find them here amongst the shingles.

:17:05. > :17:08.Scaly crickets are a rare phenomenon which

:17:09. > :17:16.I think the scaly crickets have a lot to do with it.

:17:17. > :17:19.If it wasn't the scaly cricket, I think Natural England might look

:17:20. > :17:21.at things differently and might allow the National Trust

:17:22. > :17:24.to let us move some of the shingle up the beach, which

:17:25. > :17:28.would be the natural thing to do to support the topple afore shore.

:17:29. > :17:35.The shingle out the water's level can be washed away, whereas

:17:36. > :17:39.if you pull it back up you got a chance of more shingle to build.

:17:40. > :17:42.One of the people with a ch`let on the beach says the scaly cricket

:17:43. > :17:51.is effectively making it impossible for him and his wife to rep`ir

:17:52. > :17:59.It's also because the great storms in Februarx damaged

:18:00. > :18:13.quite a lot of the chalets `nd the infrastructure and the roads.

:18:14. > :18:16.We are now being told that we can't do remedial work, possibly

:18:17. > :18:20.Natural England confirmed it's very well aware of the potential delays

:18:21. > :18:22.to the re`profiling of the beach after the winter storms.

:18:23. > :18:25.It confirmed it has requestdd a survey be carried out abott

:18:26. > :18:28.the scaly cricket, which it says has a particular impact and importance

:18:29. > :18:37.within Branscombe and the special site of scientific interest here.

:18:38. > :18:40.A retired pub landlord who lost his ?500 watch, found it again when its

:18:41. > :18:44.Yes. Terry Morgan was planning to spend

:18:45. > :18:51.the vet to retrieve it for him, although in the end the dog managed

:18:52. > :18:54.Spotlight's South Devon reporter John Ayres has the story.

:18:55. > :18:56.A timepiece ticking away inside an animal might seem

:18:57. > :18:59.like something from Peter P`n, but this was no fairytale.

:19:00. > :19:02.He thought his dog Charlie might have something

:19:03. > :19:06.to do with it but he had not expected him to have eaten ht.

:19:07. > :19:08.I lost my watch, couldn't find it anywhere.

:19:09. > :19:15.Later in the afternoon, I heard the alarm going off.

:19:16. > :19:19.I moved the dog and pushed around and put my ear to

:19:20. > :19:26.his chest and could hear the alarm going off inside him.

:19:27. > :19:29.Terry Morgan is retired now that used to be the landlord of

:19:30. > :19:36.This was because of this that he found his w`tch

:19:37. > :19:44.And it still goes off now and you haven't changed it?

:19:45. > :19:50.Charlie was taken to the vet and Terry was facing

:19:51. > :20:00.They said I would have to ldave them overnight, they would operate

:20:01. > :20:05.Do an x`ray first and see what's what with hil.

:20:06. > :20:08.They rang me at 9 AM and sahd he has coughed the watch up.

:20:09. > :20:12.So they did an x`ray to makd sure there was nothing else inside

:20:13. > :20:38.Now moving home is never easy but it's even harder if you're taking

:20:39. > :20:42.But the South West Film and TV archive has done just that!

:20:43. > :20:45.It took them six weeks but they're now in new premhses

:20:46. > :21:05.1935 and Plymouth celebrates King George V's Silver Jubilee. The film

:21:06. > :21:09.captures not only a unique dvent but also accords `` records what the

:21:10. > :21:13.city looked like a few years before a German bombs rained down on it.

:21:14. > :21:19.Just as Old Street were destroyed, old ones were created. Thesd films

:21:20. > :21:25.and thousands like them werd until recently stored at the Royal yards.

:21:26. > :21:28.The South West Film and TV @rchive has moved out to make way for a new

:21:29. > :21:34.hotel. We have over 20,000 reels of film.

:21:35. > :21:39.We have tens of thousands of tapes, as well. Planning how to move all of

:21:40. > :21:46.that material to three diffdrent locations within our new prdmises

:21:47. > :21:49.was extremely challenging. The collection now lives in Catherine

:21:50. > :21:56.Street in Plymouth city centre, which was once home to BBC radio

:21:57. > :21:59.Devon. Older news items frol West for a TV, DFW and the BBC are now

:22:00. > :22:34.held here. It gives me great pleasure to open

:22:35. > :22:40.the tame our bridge. The films `` it appears that the nature of TV hasn't

:22:41. > :22:48.evolved much over the years. We still have Royal visits and man`made

:22:49. > :22:52.and natural disasters. Therd are plans for a new heritage centre in

:22:53. > :22:55.Plymouth in a year's time. @ multi`million pound developlent on

:22:56. > :22:59.the site of the city's musetm could be ready archive ends up

:23:00. > :23:05.permanently. We are intending to create a major visitors attraction

:23:06. > :23:15.that secures the city's historic collections. We want to use those

:23:16. > :23:21.collections to really tell the story of Plymouth. What was making the new

:23:22. > :23:28.16 years ago this week? An dscaped convict on Dartmoor and a robot

:23:29. > :23:44.cricket bowling machine at ` boy's School in Tavistock.

:23:45. > :23:58.We had temperatures of 28 ddgrees on Saturday. That shows you thd

:23:59. > :24:01.difference. Good evening. For most difference. Good evening. For most

:24:02. > :24:06.of us, you will appreciate that because it has been pretty worn and

:24:07. > :24:10.uncomfortably warm night. Nhght`time temperatures this week much lower.

:24:11. > :24:16.Temperatures tonight around 13 or 14 degrees. The week ahead is not

:24:17. > :24:19.completely dry buddies `` it is cooler. Dry for most of the week but

:24:20. > :24:24.we will see some showers develop towards the end the week. Until
