:00:11. > :00:13.Two brand new villages are to be built in Devon and Cornwall -

:00:14. > :00:16.plans which have been signed off by the government today.

:00:17. > :00:19.The so-called Garden Villages are proposals to tackle

:00:20. > :00:21.the South West's housing shortage, with Taunton also set

:00:22. > :00:40.The plans include 15 thousand homes near West car close, 5000 homes at

:00:41. > :00:44.Cullompton and 8000 homes across three communities across Taunton.

:00:45. > :00:47.The government is providing 6 million plans nationally to roll out

:00:48. > :00:51.the plans but they will still have to get planning permission.

:00:52. > :00:53.Moss and heather and not a backyard in sight,

:00:54. > :00:58.but soon there could be 1,500 back gardens here as this barren

:00:59. > :01:07.The housing area will go adjacent to the main road,

:01:08. > :01:10.along the strip here with the school behind behind the Sky Tip,

:01:11. > :01:13.which will be retained as part of the heritage park.

:01:14. > :01:17.This is the place of old in the heady day

:01:18. > :01:23.Today, all that's left are ponds, scrubland and towering waste heaps.

:01:24. > :01:31.Some feared it would disappear in the scheme, not so.

:01:32. > :01:34.It is a fundamental part of the plan and it will remain as part

:01:35. > :01:37.People were concerned about when the school would be

:01:38. > :01:40.developed, we said it would be developed right from the very start,

:01:41. > :01:44.People were concerned about employment.

:01:45. > :01:46.There are now plans in place for an employment park,

:01:47. > :01:49.which has now got European funding, so that is good news.

:01:50. > :01:52.We have tried to look at all the aspects people have been

:01:53. > :01:55.concerned about and tried to address them as part of our later proposals.

:01:56. > :01:58.It is not the only garden village plan for the region.

:01:59. > :02:02.Combe in Devon, alongside the M5, will effectively see

:02:03. > :02:08.It's near a motorway, is near a railway line.

:02:09. > :02:12.If you are going to have growth and improvements to towns and areas,

:02:13. > :02:15.these are the best sort of places to put them.

:02:16. > :02:18.There will be a garden town near Taunton.

:02:19. > :02:20.This is what that development looks like.

:02:21. > :02:24.These are the plans for Cornwall's garden village.

:02:25. > :02:27.There have been plans for homes on these old China clay pits

:02:28. > :02:30.for the best part of ten years, but this garden village idea now

:02:31. > :02:33.has government backing, but that doesn't mean to say

:02:34. > :02:37.It still needs planning permission and that will give

:02:38. > :02:48.A man from Torquay who was shot in the head during a robbery

:02:49. > :02:50.at his parents' restaurant in Antigua is being flown back

:02:51. > :02:54.to the UK today by air ambulance, after a crowdfunding campaign

:02:55. > :02:58.37-year-old Christopher Tester was wounded in the attack

:04:53. > :04:57.Dartington Crystal says its future is looking good despite rising

:04:58. > :05:08.50 years of hypnotic, handmade history.

:05:09. > :05:11.Dartington Crystal based in Torrington is the last

:05:12. > :05:17.large-scale manufacturer of handmade crystal glass in Britain.

:05:18. > :05:22.When the factory opened in 1967, the workforce was mostly Swedish.

:06:02. > :06:06.which is very, very interesting once you get into it.

:06:07. > :06:10.In the last few years, we have doubled the turnover and we have got

:06:11. > :06:16.I would not like to say there are never any doubts

:06:17. > :06:18.about the future climate, obviously after Brexit

:06:19. > :06:21.there are still uncertainties, but I think we are able to adapt

:06:22. > :06:24.and change as it comes along and I have every expectation that it

:06:25. > :06:32.200,000 visitors come to the factory every year to watch these

:06:33. > :06:40.A crystal clear day for many of us today.

:07:12. > :07:19.to freezing all below and in some areas, we could see as locals -4

:07:20. > :07:23.minus five. Could be the old patch of freezing fog around, most areas

:07:24. > :07:31.will be clear of that. A good deal of sunshine and then a bit more

:07:32. > :07:36.cloud around. Eventually by the tail end of the day, thicker cloud is

:07:37. > :07:42.moving in from the north. A few spots of light rain. Temperatures

:07:43. > :07:45.tomorrow getting as high as 6-8 C and through the rest of the week, a

:08:16. > :08:19.sunshine. Here is the scene in Derbyshire and where we have had the

:08:20. > :08:23.clear skies by day, we are in for a cold night tonight. Temperatures

:08:24. > :08:28.already plummeting, particularly towards the south with some icy

:08:29. > :08:32.stretches across parts of central and southern England, and into

:08:33. > :08:37.Wales. For the north-west, not as cold, as we have the cloud building.

:08:38. > :08:41.But to the south we could see temperatures down to minus four or

:08:42. > :08:43.five first thing Tuesday morning. If you have
