:04:09. > :04:16.Spotlight's Janine Jansen is live at her house this evening.

:04:17. > :04:27.It has been a bit busy at the? And how lovely to report on an uplifting

:04:28. > :04:31.story. Tonight it is very quiet but earlier today there were dozens of

:04:32. > :04:37.builders here. Ripping out the old before the new. Earlier today I made

:04:38. > :04:44.Daisy and her mum. It has been a good day for them but also a very

:04:45. > :04:49.emotional one. For-year-old Daisy Palmer has a very rare disease which

:04:50. > :04:56.affects just one in 4000 people. She is wheelchair-bound. The whole

:04:57. > :04:59.family have had to move out of their House because there is a huge

:05:00. > :05:05.renovation project taking place to make their home wheelchair friendly.

:05:06. > :05:12.This is a bit like planet's own DIY SOS. I think it is absolutely

:05:13. > :05:22.brilliant to see the time that and the tee-mac that is going on. It is

:05:23. > :05:30.overwhelming. Ten o'clock, D1, and mum Emmy can hardly her eyes. It is

:05:31. > :05:37.overwhelming. Half the House was gone and in my guarding. We knew

:05:38. > :05:42.that balls were coming out but we didn't realise that the kitchen was

:05:43. > :05:47.going and all the other things that are on my front lawn. Dozens of

:05:48. > :05:55.companies have offered to help out. Everything is right out, walls are

:05:56. > :06:00.down. It is good. It is nice that we know that it is going to someone who

:06:01. > :06:07.really deserves it. There will be ramps and a heist and he left up to

:06:08. > :06:13.Daisy's bedroom. It means a while. It will make such a difference to

:06:14. > :06:19.Daisy's world. It will change her quality of life for the time that

:06:20. > :06:28.she is herewith as. It is going to make life easier for heart not to be

:06:29. > :06:36.isolated. It is hard to move from room to room. The project is

:06:37. > :06:44.expected to take ten weeks. Daisy will think she has got her very own

:06:45. > :06:47.palace. If I say the words to you, project manager, and you are a fan

:06:48. > :06:56.of the apprentice, you might recognise this chap. You are the

:06:57. > :07:04.Project manager behind this. How much you think this helps you.

:07:05. > :07:08.something I have embraced. How something I have embraced. How

:07:09. > :07:15.difficult has it been to get support for this project? Support has been

:07:16. > :07:22.coming thick and fast from fellow Plymouth people and businesses. We

:07:23. > :07:25.willing to donate building materials willing to donate building materials

:07:26. > :07:34.or time. It has been heart-wrenching to see it. Why did you want to get

:07:35. > :07:38.involved? I was approached and I genuinely thought it was going to be

:07:39. > :07:43.another, are you an apprentice, can you come and do those's opening

:07:44. > :07:47.actress packet of an envelope. I came down and was history. I felt

:07:48. > :07:54.compelled to get on board and do what I can. I am a dad myself. Daisy

:07:55. > :08:02.has epilepsy so she cannot have a stairlift. We're pitting his

:08:03. > :08:05.2-storey extension on the back which will House a left which will get up

:08:06. > :08:13.to the bedroom. There will be a heist system throughout with Daisy's

:08:14. > :08:22.dad doing everything at the top. We are trying to add as many things as

:08:23. > :08:32.we can. And ramps? Yes. There will be ramps at the front. Very good

:08:33. > :08:36.luck with that. It is a 10-week project. We will aim to be back here

:08:37. > :08:42.at the 10-week point to see Daisy's face when she sees her new home. We

:08:43. > :08:44.look forward to seeing the finished result.

:08:45. > :08:47.A protected coral which thrives in the waters off Devon and Cornwall

:08:48. > :08:50.is being damaged by rubbish and litter entering the sea.

:08:51. > :08:51.The evidence presented by scientists from Plymouth University,

:08:52. > :08:55.shows hundreds of rare pink sea fans being ripped from the seabed

:08:56. > :08:58.after becoming tangled in discarded waste including clothes

:08:59. > :09:03.In a moment we'll hear from the South West charities taking

:09:04. > :09:11.the matter of clearing sea-bed litter into their own hands.

:09:12. > :09:13.But first our environment correspondent Adrian Campbell

:09:14. > :09:16.reports on the damage being caused to a jewel in our ocean.

:09:17. > :09:19.Dappled light on a Cornish beach and something catches the eye,

:09:20. > :09:24.These are rare cold water corals, but more widely found on the sea

:09:25. > :09:30.They are common on rocks like these rocky reefs.

:09:31. > :09:33.If you imagine those underwater, they can be covered in these sea

:09:34. > :09:39.Jason Hall-Spencer is a professor of Marine biology at

:09:40. > :09:45.A massive pile of debris has come up out of the bay after storms over

:09:46. > :09:48.the last couple of years and inside almost every single lump

:09:49. > :09:50.like this you get these things called sea fans.

:09:51. > :09:52.So that, that's a fan there, isn't it?

:09:53. > :09:58.All of this has been hanging that bit there, is that right?

:09:59. > :10:04.Yeah, and you can imagine something that is trying to hold

:10:05. > :10:07.There's another bit of it there, look.

:10:08. > :10:10.It looks a bit like wood but it's not wood, it's the same

:10:11. > :10:13.stuff your fingernails are made out of, and it tries to glue the animal

:10:14. > :10:17.to the rock but once it gets wrapped up in debris like this,

:10:18. > :10:19.the sinking debris then tears it off in bad weather.

:10:20. > :10:22.A lot of it is monofilament nets that they put down,

:10:23. > :10:25.they are gillnets, they are actually set on the sea bed to catch

:10:26. > :10:27.fish, and it won't rot because it is made of plastic.

:10:28. > :10:29.But this is everybody's problem, isn't it?

:10:30. > :10:30.Everybody, different stratas of society,

:10:31. > :10:36.It is not just fishermen, not just anglers.

:10:37. > :10:41.It is anybody who drops litter into the sea.

:10:42. > :10:44.Parts of the south-west have already had restrictions on certain types

:10:45. > :10:47.of fishing and other activities to try and help protect slow-growing

:10:48. > :10:50.sea fans in our waters, but all of us have a responsibility

:10:51. > :10:55.There is a very simple message we have all learnt today

:10:56. > :11:03.which is basically don't litter our beaches.

:11:04. > :11:07.The charity World Animal Protection says that nearly six

:11:08. > :11:09.and a half million tonnes of fishing gear are lost in

:11:10. > :11:13.In Cornwall, a group of volunteer divers are doing their bit to clean

:11:14. > :11:17.up the seabed and have raised funds to buy their own rib so they can get

:11:18. > :11:24.Spotlight's Louise Walter joined them this weekend.

:11:25. > :11:29.Blue sky, clear waters, bouncing through the waves near Mousehole.

:11:30. > :11:36.But look below the surface and there is a different

:11:37. > :11:47.Injuries can be really quite horrific.

:11:48. > :11:50.We have cases of strangulation, wounds can lead to

:11:51. > :11:56.It can lead to the kinds of injuries that can lead to a

:11:57. > :12:01.painful, prolonged suffering and sometimes even death for the animal.

:12:02. > :12:05.Even small pieces can have grave consequences.

:12:06. > :12:09.This is monofilament net, probably from a gill

:12:10. > :12:14.It is a very small amount of lost gear , but a

:12:15. > :12:18.It is a very small amount of lost gear, but a

:12:19. > :12:19.and what happens is that the

:12:20. > :12:30.through the flesh like cheese wire and causes really

:12:31. > :12:33.That is what's spurs these volunteers on.

:12:34. > :12:36.At the dive site, it is time to go under.

:12:37. > :12:45.Here, there was odd bits of net caught in rusty

:12:46. > :12:53.Now we know how much is down we can take some lift bags,

:12:54. > :13:02.Later on, Fathoms Free are able to release the net.

:13:03. > :13:08.But these materials take hundreds of years to biodegrade.

:13:09. > :13:11.Other pieces of ghost gear could be haunting our waters

:13:12. > :13:25.Still to come in tonight's programme, all the sport

:13:26. > :13:27.with Natalie, including Gareth Bale, Delli Alli and now

:13:28. > :13:30.Exeter's Ollie Watkins - the new young Footballer of the Year.

:13:31. > :13:33.And temperatures exceeded 20 degrees for some of us over the weekend.

:13:34. > :13:36.A bit of a drop in those values for today though,

:13:37. > :13:38.but find out how it's looking as we head towards

:13:39. > :13:46.the Easter weekend a bit later on in the programme.

:13:47. > :13:49.Mention the Freemasons and you might be forgiven for thinking of rituals,

:13:50. > :13:58.But in their 300th anniversary year, they want to dispel that myth.

:13:59. > :14:03.Well, The Grand Masters of Freemasonry in Torbay were keen

:14:04. > :14:06.to show us why they're a force for good, and as John Ayres reports,

:14:07. > :14:14.the secrecy and suspicion is actually more about discretion.

:14:15. > :14:17.Behind closed doors, this ceremony is derived

:14:18. > :14:20.from the biblical story of King Solomon's Temple,

:14:21. > :14:23.but the secrecy didn't begin until the Second World War.

:14:24. > :14:27.It came about because Masons were persecuted by the Nazis.

:14:28. > :14:30.These days, the Masons are much more open about what they do.

:14:31. > :14:33.Celebrating 300 years, today they unveiled their banner which

:14:34. > :14:36.will pass through their eight provinces in the south-west

:14:37. > :14:40.The general public are curious, sometimes suspicious,

:14:41. > :14:44.so the Masons are forever having to answer questions.

:14:45. > :14:50.It's difficult to explain, but it's about

:14:51. > :14:55.the principles of helping others and looking after people discreetly.

:14:56. > :14:58.We've got a circle of friends within my lodge.

:14:59. > :15:01.When we meet, the ladies then go out for a meal as well,

:15:02. > :15:04.so there's that side of it as well, so the ladies have got know each

:15:05. > :15:07.other as well and we've got some friendships which have gone back,

:15:08. > :15:10.you know, 20 and 25 years that have been in and around

:15:11. > :15:15.There are female Masons but they're a separate organisation.

:15:16. > :15:18.The handshake is never to be used outside the lodge.

:15:19. > :15:24.Today, they're announcing first aid kits for village halls

:15:25. > :15:27.around Devon, but what are these weird

:15:28. > :15:33.The whole point of this initiation where you roll up one trouser leg

:15:34. > :15:36.is to prove that I'm male, that I'm not shackled by chains,

:15:37. > :15:40.ie I'm not a slave, and that I come poor and penniless -

:15:41. > :15:45.But for all the pomp and charity work,

:15:46. > :15:48.there's one thing that people always feel about Masons.

:15:49. > :15:51.They're worried that many are senior people in public life

:15:52. > :15:54.and they might use their contacts in an inappropriate way.

:15:55. > :15:58.We do not like it when we hear this, the thought of people

:15:59. > :16:03.If they do, they will be severely disciplined.

:16:04. > :16:06.If we get to hear of it, they will be disciplined

:16:07. > :16:10.and possibly have to leave our order if that was the case.

:16:11. > :16:12.Freemasons, we are told, come from all walks of life,

:16:13. > :16:20.so long as they meet the criteria of being a good person.

:16:21. > :16:23.A family from Devon is offering a ?500 reward

:16:24. > :16:28.He's called Jeremy and he's brought joy and comfort to the Rayer family

:16:29. > :16:31.as the father's been battling cancer.

:16:32. > :16:34.Jeremy, a 14-year-old Exmoor cross, hasn't been seen

:16:35. > :16:38.And it's not the first time he's gone missing,

:16:39. > :16:48.the 14-year-old Exmoor cross has been seen.

:16:49. > :16:54.To not have any information or any sightings for two weeks is a really

:16:55. > :16:58.long period of time and we're worried that he has been taken

:16:59. > :17:01.and he may have been moved quite a considerable way

:17:02. > :17:06.and he may have been sold on as well, so we're asking for people

:17:07. > :17:08.all over the south-west to keep an eye out

:17:09. > :17:11.and let us know if they think they've seen Jeremy.

:17:12. > :17:15.He's been with the people4ponies charity since he was a foal.

:17:16. > :17:17.They lend him out to families and he's been

:17:18. > :17:23.He such a big part of the family and to have no idea

:17:24. > :17:26.where he is, what happened to him, we don't know if he's hurt

:17:27. > :17:30.We just don't know where he is and we're all just gutted.

:17:31. > :17:34.His disappearance couldn't have come at a worse time.

:17:35. > :17:37.Over a year ago, my husband was diagnosed with cancer myeloma,

:17:38. > :17:41.which is a bone marrow cancer and a tumour snapped a bone

:17:42. > :17:43.in his spine so he now uses crutches.

:17:44. > :17:48.And having Jeremy has just given me real comfort that I can go out

:17:49. > :17:52.and spend time with him and have a little bit of normality

:17:53. > :17:55.in what's been a really, really stressful time

:17:56. > :18:05.I don't know, I don't know how we're copying, really.

:18:06. > :18:08.The Rayers describe Jeremy as a real character, cheeky

:18:09. > :18:10.and lovable, but the charity says he'll be very anxious.

:18:11. > :18:12.He does have separation anxiety, he doesn't like

:18:13. > :18:18.We don't know if he could turn up at a market,

:18:19. > :18:21.he could be sold on, we don't know if he's being looked

:18:22. > :18:25.We just really want to know where Jeremy is.

:18:26. > :18:29.Jeremy disappeared from the Morwenstow welcome area on the

:18:30. > :18:35.He's 12 hands, brown with a black mane and tail.

:18:36. > :18:44.A ?500 reward has been offered to help bring Jeremy home.

:18:45. > :18:47.It's time for the sport now and Natalie's here with some

:18:48. > :18:54.is following in some very illustrious footsteps.

:18:55. > :18:58.He's been named as the EFL's Young Player of the Year -

:18:59. > :19:01.a title Gareth Bale and Delli Ali have held in the past.

:19:02. > :19:03.The 21-year-old forward has helped Exeter into the play off zone

:19:04. > :19:14.You know, like I said, quite a few players

:19:15. > :19:16.have won this award, you know,

:19:17. > :19:21.so hopefully I can follow in their footsteps.

:19:22. > :19:24.But even the new Young Player of the Year couldn't stop Exeter

:19:25. > :19:26.slipping to a surprise defeat at St James Park.

:19:27. > :19:31.who could be just one win away from promotion.

:19:32. > :19:37.This was supposed to be straightforward.

:19:38. > :19:40.Crawley had nothing to play for and Argyle had the best

:19:41. > :19:48.Crawley took the lead, and wasn't he happy about it?

:19:49. > :19:51.The home side stayed happy into the second half

:19:52. > :19:54.Ryan Taylor linked with Antoni Sarcevic

:19:55. > :19:59.The penalty decision quickly changed the mood.

:20:00. > :20:02.Graham Carey has been in top form of late

:20:03. > :20:06.and the Irishman put Argyle level from the spot.

:20:07. > :20:09.The pilgrims had only won twice this season after conceding

:20:10. > :20:11.the first goal and when James Collins was sent off

:20:12. > :20:15.with ten minutes left, they seized their chance.

:20:16. > :20:18.Well into stoppage time, Taylor was put

:20:19. > :20:20.through on goal and he lashed home the winner

:20:21. > :20:24.to send the 1600 travelling supporters into a frenzy.

:20:25. > :20:28.Another big step closer to League One.

:20:29. > :20:30.Back in Devon, traffic congestion may have delayed the start

:20:31. > :20:34.of Exeter City's match with Newport, but Tom Owen-Evans soon found

:20:35. > :20:38.himself in acres of space before unleashing an unstoppable shot

:20:39. > :20:42.Then, as City went in search of a reply,

:20:43. > :20:47.the congestion returned, this time, in Newport's penalty area.

:20:48. > :20:49.Nine players, including the goalkeeper, held firm

:20:50. > :20:56.They tried to go through and then go over,

:20:57. > :21:01.However, with many of the teams around them also losing,

:21:02. > :21:05.this hasn't been too damaging to their play-off hopes.

:21:06. > :21:08.It does mean Yeovil are now only seven points

:21:09. > :21:11.Francois Zoko's eighth goal of the season,

:21:12. > :21:13.the only highlight for the Glovers

:21:14. > :21:20.in their 3-1 defeat against Portsmouth.

:21:21. > :21:22.Here's how things stand for our rugby teams.

:21:23. > :21:24.Exeter Chiefs have guaranteed themselves a place in

:21:25. > :21:27.the Premiership play off semifinals after another win.

:21:28. > :21:32.Sadly the Cornish Pirates and Jersey won't be in the Championship

:21:33. > :21:34.play-offs after they both lost at the weekend.

:21:35. > :21:37.Exeter are still in second after a nail-biting encounter

:21:38. > :21:41.in a game in which the lead changed hands five times.

:21:42. > :21:45.Five tries did the job and it finished 38-34 ensuring

:21:46. > :21:51.It was a tough old game and Bristol almost came away with the win.

:21:52. > :21:54.The Chiefs next game is against Harlequins,

:21:55. > :21:57.Their destiny is now firmly in their own hands

:21:58. > :22:02.with just three rounds of battle remaining.

:22:03. > :22:04.Plymouth Leander are celebrating after finishing second

:22:05. > :22:08.in the National Arena League Cup Final yesterday.

:22:09. > :22:10.They were ranked fourth going into the competition

:22:11. > :22:15.There were some fine performances in this team event with several

:22:16. > :22:16.individual victories, including Laura Stephens,

:22:17. > :22:22.Leander used the competition as race practice for

:22:23. > :22:24.the British Swimming Championships which are being held

:22:25. > :22:39.A charity rugby match is taking place at the end of April in St Ives

:22:40. > :22:43.It's been organised by Anthony Stevens - with a V -

:22:44. > :22:46.and will raise money for Parkinsons in memory of his father

:22:47. > :22:50.He's not too worried about how good a player you are,

:22:51. > :22:56.We want to arrange a side like we did years ago where every

:22:57. > :23:00.member of the side is a Stevens, spelt the right way.

:23:01. > :23:03.We need 18, 20 minimum because nobody's going

:23:04. > :23:07.We're all a little bit older in the tooth these days,

:23:08. > :23:12.so ten minutes on, ten minutes off, swap and chop, different positions.

:23:13. > :23:16.Somebody come on with the oranges and the water, oxygen!

:23:17. > :23:19.So, what we're trying to do is do that for a full 80

:23:20. > :23:25.against a team called the Carbis Bay all-stars.

:23:26. > :23:30.Should be a dream for the commentators, shouldn't it! Stevens

:23:31. > :23:32.passing to Stevens passing to Stevens.

:23:33. > :23:38.What a great try by Stevens! Thank you.

:23:39. > :23:41.Time for the weather now and what a fantastic weekend it was. Holly is

:23:42. > :23:50.here. More good news? Not quite the return to temperatures

:23:51. > :23:52.we had this weekend which exceeded 20 degrees in places but some

:23:53. > :23:57.sunshine over coming days, C can't complain about that in April, can

:23:58. > :24:01.you? Hello, good evening. We had very nice weather through the

:24:02. > :24:05.weekend. I think on Saturday, the best of the temperatures was along

:24:06. > :24:09.the north coast. 20 degrees in places. On Sunday, it's all switched

:24:10. > :24:15.around. Cooler conditions coming to the north coast and more clout here.

:24:16. > :24:20.The south coast, again 20 degrees or so but just 30 degrees there in

:24:21. > :24:24.Bude. We have had a bit of a drop in our temperatures. Style sunshine

:24:25. > :24:27.around, our cameraman, Tristan, took a trip out earlier today whether

:24:28. > :24:31.were decent spells of sunshine. Just some cloud bubbling up there. The

:24:32. > :24:36.Cumbrae monuments they looking lovely in the sunshine. You can see

:24:37. > :24:39.the cloud is quite... Very deep, quite squeezed flat and that's

:24:40. > :24:44.because we have high pressure in charge. It tends to squash and

:24:45. > :24:49.reasonably flat. It will do that at times as we head to this week. Many

:24:50. > :24:54.others, the sunshine extending across the region. It has been a

:24:55. > :24:57.decent picture and we continue with that whether overcoming days but we

:24:58. > :25:00.hang onto this cooler feel. Not a return to the kind of temperatures

:25:01. > :25:05.we saw this weekend, but some bright spells to be had and a little bit of

:25:06. > :25:08.rain in general not too much. That is thanks to the high pressure

:25:09. > :25:11.sitting just to the rest of us. At the time being, that is keeping

:25:12. > :25:15.weather fronts at bay. Into Tuesday, the best of the sunshine will come

:25:16. > :25:19.tomorrow. For Wednesday, a week weather front pushes towards is in

:25:20. > :25:22.the afternoon which could bring some rain for a time. Thursday, a couple

:25:23. > :25:26.of showers but mostly dry and another weather front head towards

:25:27. > :25:30.us for Good Friday and come the afternoon, a few spits and spots of

:25:31. > :25:34.rain but a decent amount of usable weather. This is the picture so far.

:25:35. > :25:37.We've had somehow whether cloud bubbling up but is in race

:25:38. > :25:43.conditions out there. For many of us, that cloud has died away now.

:25:44. > :25:46.Clear skies overhead, bree is becoming increasingly light which

:25:47. > :25:50.may allow mist and fog patches to form. Quite chilly, locally down to

:25:51. > :25:54.full single figures so there could be ground or grass frost here or

:25:55. > :25:57.there is we head into tomorrow morning. Any Mr Fogg should

:25:58. > :26:02.literally readily and it should be a decent day. Good spells of sunshine,

:26:03. > :26:05.a light breeze then today just a little bare whether cloud bubbling

:26:06. > :26:09.up again but staying dry tomorrow and temperatures could sneak a

:26:10. > :26:14.little and higher. Maybe 14 degrees tomorrow but again, a bit lower than

:26:15. > :26:17.it was over the weekend. A nice day to convert the Isles of Scilly,

:26:18. > :26:26.sunny spells staying dry and again, light winds. These are the hat times

:26:27. > :26:29.of high water. Fairly small waves across the surface, just one or two

:26:30. > :26:34.feet with generally clean conditions. This is the pick out at

:26:35. > :26:39.sea, variable winds, Mimi Norton of Westerly, three or four, good

:26:40. > :26:42.visibility and conditions there's a bad picture. This is how it looks

:26:43. > :26:48.over the coming days. Tomorrow bringing the best of the sunshine.

:26:49. > :26:51.Maybe a little rain on Wednesday and on Friday afternoon. Showers on

:26:52. > :26:54.Thursday. It looks quite cloudy there but there will be Britain at

:26:55. > :26:58.times. But the all-important Easter weekend, we hang on to be cooler

:26:59. > :26:59.feel with the north-westerly. Sunshine, some showers but hopefully

:27:00. > :27:10.not too many. I'm pleased with more clout as I got

:27:11. > :27:12.burned over the weekend! That's it from us but the late news will be at

:27:13. > :27:19.10:30pm. Good night.
