:00:12. > :00:14.There's a warning tonight about the use of glue traps to catch

:00:15. > :00:17.pests after two owls became stuck in them.

:00:18. > :00:19.The animals are being cared for at the West Hatch

:00:20. > :00:25.This one was unable to move its wings and wouldn't have survived.

:00:26. > :00:28.The RSPCA says glue traps cause unnecessary suffering to pests

:00:29. > :00:34.The charity is urging people not to use them.

:00:35. > :00:37.His primary wing feathers were stuck into his own flanks here.

:00:38. > :00:39.He had quite a few feathers missing on

:00:40. > :00:43.Without us intervening and actually washing the

:00:44. > :00:46.glue off, there is no way he would ever have flown again,

:00:47. > :00:50.so he would have slowly starved to death or died

:00:51. > :00:56.It's been a busy day on some of our roads,

:00:57. > :00:58.as people make the most of the Easter break, but two years

:00:59. > :01:01.through Bodmin Moor isn't quite over yet.

:01:02. > :01:04.It had been hoped work at Temple would be completed by today,

:01:05. > :01:07.but Cornwall Council says the problems won't continue

:01:08. > :01:13.It's been said that it's the only stretch of single carriageway

:01:14. > :01:18.on an A-road between Scotland and Cornwall.

:01:19. > :01:21.We have been promised that it will be open in time for the main

:01:22. > :01:23.holidays in the summer, which is, you know, good news.

:01:24. > :01:28.It just would have been great news if it was open today.

:01:29. > :01:31.About 2,000 people have turned out in one town in Devon

:01:32. > :01:33.as people across the South West have taken part in traditional

:01:34. > :01:35.Good Friday processions through the streets.

:01:36. > :01:38.Early Christians in Jerusalem would walk what they believed

:01:39. > :01:40.was Jesus' final journey carrying the cross.

:01:41. > :01:43.Many worshippers now act out their own Easter

:01:44. > :01:45.stories in towns and cities as Harriet Bradshaw

:01:46. > :01:52.A brutal story told without shying away from the drama of betrayal,

:01:53. > :01:57.We try to make it realistic enough for people to get a

:01:58. > :02:01.good sense of it, to be moved by it, but not too realistic that they are

:02:02. > :02:06.It was estimated a couple of thousand were

:02:07. > :02:10.in the crowd, with about 100 costumed actors and 70 crew.

:02:11. > :02:17.And at the heart of a tale that is centuries

:02:18. > :02:23.old, it was a young actor who took on the role of Jesus.

:02:24. > :02:26.Just like when you go on the stage in any other

:02:27. > :02:29.production, you do get that stage fright, when you see so many people

:02:30. > :02:31.before you. But it does give a sense

:02:32. > :02:33.of purpose to the way you were acting.

:02:34. > :02:35.Suddenly, you realised the meaning behind the words you were

:02:36. > :02:38.saying, so in a way, it sort of emboldened you, gave

:02:39. > :02:42.you confidence and an understanding of how everything fitted together.

:02:43. > :02:44.Thought to be the first Passion play for the town in living

:02:45. > :02:47.memory, but a tradition that could continue.

:02:48. > :02:51.Everybody was a very good actor, I thought.

:02:52. > :02:55.I liked about the play, when the guy screamed when he

:02:56. > :02:58.got pricked by the sword in his cheek.

:02:59. > :03:01.I thought it was quite powerful, and nice that

:03:02. > :03:06.I thought that the last bit was very well done, and very emotional,

:03:07. > :03:12.And the tale of Jesus' death isn't without his resurrection,

:03:13. > :03:21.touching upon the theme of hope that will be celebrated on Easter Sunday.

:03:22. > :03:27.Born in Dorset he shot to fame predicting the results of football

:03:28. > :03:32.A bit of fun at the time, but octopuses are very intelligent,

:03:33. > :03:35.and John Ayres has been discovering there's now some proper research

:03:36. > :03:39.into their thought processes at an aquarium in Torquay.

:03:40. > :03:43.The point of dropping plastic bricks into this tank is to see if Octavia

:03:44. > :03:45.can find her way through to the food.

:03:46. > :03:47.The test is repeated, and each time, she gets quicker.

:03:48. > :03:51.She may not be as famous as Paul the Octopus,

:03:52. > :03:56.What I could not really grasp about Paul,

:03:57. > :03:59.the World Cup octopus, is how he could distinguish between the

:04:00. > :04:02.technicalities of the Netherlands team and the flamboyance of the

:04:03. > :04:05.Spanish, or indeed, how he was able to watch the matches under

:04:06. > :04:11.But the difference with this is that the testing is

:04:12. > :04:16.actually real, and they believe that octopuses have intelligence similar

:04:17. > :04:22.Student Meghan Davitt is carrying out research for her veterinary

:04:23. > :04:26.She is measuring how long it takes Octavia to work

:04:27. > :04:31.Two of the puzzles that I am using for the study,

:04:32. > :04:34.a simple one is clip-lock boxes and screw-top containers,

:04:35. > :04:38.so she really has to figure out how to get into these boxes in order to

:04:39. > :04:41.get her food, and then I will present these challenges a few

:04:42. > :04:44.weeks later to see if she has learned how to do it, and the time

:04:45. > :04:47.They are inquisitive, they can work things

:04:48. > :04:49.out if we give them puzzles and things.

:04:50. > :04:52.It is just things that they have developed in the wild to

:04:53. > :04:56.Obviously, they have got that, and we need to keep that busy

:04:57. > :05:00.Her ability to do these puzzles has been

:05:01. > :05:02.entertaining the crowds this Easter holiday.

:05:03. > :05:05.Meghan will be carrying out a number of research projects for

:05:06. > :05:11.these animals to help with her degree.

:05:12. > :05:14.Plymouth Argyle must wait for promotion from League Two

:05:15. > :05:17.after drawing against Portsmouth at Fratton Park late this afternoon.

:05:18. > :05:29.it did look like today was going to be the day.

:05:30. > :05:35.Plymouth Argyle knew a win today would secure promotion, as long as

:05:36. > :05:42.other results went their way. And they started well, after this flying

:05:43. > :05:47.header from Jake Jervis puts them in front. But Plymouth moved from

:05:48. > :05:53.Portsmouth piled on the pressure. Portsmouth piled on the pressure.

:05:54. > :06:02.Eventually, a goalkeeping error allowed Portsmouth to equalise. The

:06:03. > :06:06.Green Army will have to keep the champagne on ice for now. The

:06:07. > :06:11.Pilgrims need one point from four games to guarantee their place in

:06:12. > :06:20.League 1. These are the other results today.

:06:21. > :06:23.Torquay United are now just four points from safety with two games to

:06:24. > :06:25.play. The weather may not be summer

:06:26. > :06:27.heat of last weekend, Hello, and a very

:06:28. > :06:32.good evening to you. Now, this Easter weekend is set

:06:33. > :06:35.to be a little fresher than last weekend, courtesy of this area

:06:36. > :06:38.of high pressure, which is drawing a north-westerly flow into our part

:06:39. > :06:41.of the world through the course This evening and tonight,

:06:42. > :06:45.we will continue to see the cloud building, and we do have a few

:06:46. > :06:48.outbreaks of rain in store as well. That rain will be patchy

:06:49. > :06:52.and will tend to come and go through the course of the night,

:06:53. > :06:54.overnight temperatures down to around 10

:06:55. > :06:58.degrees. First thing tomorrow morning,

:06:59. > :07:04.we will have some cloud lingering, some patchy outbreaks of

:07:05. > :07:07.rain for the morning, but gradually clearing through,

:07:08. > :07:09.the Channel Islands seeing that ease away

:07:10. > :07:10.by the Later in the afternoon,

:07:11. > :07:14.seeing some holes in that cloud, some good sunny

:07:15. > :07:16.breaks, and temperatures peaking at around 13 Celsius through the course

:07:17. > :07:20.of Saturday afternoon. Taking a look ahead

:07:21. > :07:23.to the remainder of the bank holiday weekend, and it is fine

:07:24. > :07:26.throughout, really. It looks like through

:07:27. > :07:35.the course of Sunday we will stay dry, one or two holes in that

:07:36. > :07:38.cloud yet again, so some bright An odd shower or two

:07:39. > :07:43.as possible, Monday, and it looks like we will have

:07:44. > :07:46.a frost overnight in to Tuesday I will be back with more as part

:07:47. > :08:12.of the BBC's News at 10. To think that this time last

:08:13. > :08:18.weekend, temperatures were in the 20s. They got up to 25.5. Much

:08:19. > :08:25.cooler across the country this weekend. And this headline is true

:08:26. > :08:29.for the weather next week. That cool air stream from the north will

:08:30. > :08:35.persist. The mild air tries to get in, but never really wins. What have

:08:36. > :08:39.we got for the rest of today? The rain we had across Wales earlier

:08:40. > :08:43.will move southwards, but once the rain reaches you, it will be much

:08:44. > :08:44.lighter. Across many
