:00:23. > :00:25.about the pressure of her job as a junior doctor at

:00:26. > :00:30.Torbay Hospital, from where Hamish Marshall now reports.

:00:31. > :00:37.Rose Polge was a junior doctor here at Torbay Hospital.

:00:38. > :00:39.It said tonight that her loss has been felt very deeply

:00:40. > :00:42.and described her as a dedicated member of staff.

:00:43. > :00:45.The hospital also said it was not aware of the distress she were

:00:46. > :00:53.Rose Polge was 25 and a talented doctor, but she was doubting her

:00:54. > :00:57.abilities, although she was said to be progressing well.

:00:58. > :01:00.Today, her family arrived at the coroner's court to hear

:01:01. > :01:04.of the events which led to her death earlier this year.

:01:05. > :01:10.A statement by Rose's boyfriend was read out at the inquest.

:01:11. > :01:13.He said he was woken by her on February 12th.

:01:27. > :01:30.and she asked him if he would stay with her if she left the profession.

:01:31. > :01:36.Later that day, Rose drove to Anstey's Cove to end her life.

:01:37. > :01:40.She had looked at suicide sites on the internet and left two notes.

:02:25. > :02:27.Tonight, Torbay Hospital has extended its steepest sympathies

:02:28. > :02:34.to Rose's family and said, "We take our duty of care

:02:53. > :02:54.to people who are thinking of taking their own lives.

:02:55. > :02:58.The Commons Health Select Committee says the number of lives lost due

:02:59. > :03:01.to suicide in England is unacceptable and remains

:03:02. > :03:04.the biggest cause of death in men under 49.

:03:05. > :03:08.The committee, chaired by the MP for Totnes Sarah Wollaston,

:03:09. > :03:12.also says that a government suicide prevention strategy for England

:03:13. > :03:15.in 2012 didn't result in any improvements.

:03:16. > :03:19.The key message here is that suicide is preventable and what we heard

:03:20. > :03:24.from one witness very powerfully was when she said, "It wasn't my son

:03:25. > :03:27.that was hard to reach, it was the services that were hard

:03:28. > :03:30.to reach," so let's make sure those services are available,

:03:31. > :03:34.that people know about them, there is better communication,

:03:35. > :03:37.that everybody across the whole system is working together

:03:38. > :03:44.to identify why this is happening and how we step in to prevent it.

:03:45. > :03:47.A look at some of the other stories making the news today.

:03:48. > :03:50.Detectives say a man found dead at a Plymouth flat on Saturday had

:03:57. > :04:02.A man and a woman have been arrested in Kingsbridge in connection

:04:03. > :04:05.with a series of thefts of pay and display machines.

:04:06. > :04:09.Police say at least 19 have been found dumped after being forcibly

:04:10. > :04:15.removed with angle grinders from car parks across Devon and Cornwall.

:04:16. > :04:18.A court has heard how a stuntman from Newquay working as a "human

:04:19. > :04:22.cannonball" died at a daredevil show due to health and safety failings.

:04:23. > :04:25.24-year-old Matthew Cranch died when a safety net failed

:04:26. > :04:28.to catch his fall at Detling in Kent in 2011.

:04:29. > :04:32.Scott May and his company Stunts UK Ltd are due

:04:33. > :04:39.Eight Cornish towns are teaming up with the Fire Service and the police

:04:40. > :04:44.Footage from the cameras will be recorded and monitored by staff

:04:45. > :04:47.based at the Critical Control Centre in Tolvaddon.

:04:48. > :04:50.It'll be funded by the town councils via council tax

:04:51. > :04:53.and as Tamsin Melville reports, it's being hailed as

:04:54. > :05:03.We can zoom in that close that we can read the menu

:05:04. > :05:09.on a restaurant, so the actual clarity is brilliant on this system.

:05:10. > :05:13.State-of-the-art CCTV cameras across eight Cornish towns,

:05:14. > :05:17.running 24 hours a day and live monitored for 44 hours a week

:05:18. > :05:20.from here at the Fire Service Critical Control

:05:21. > :05:26.There are towns in Cornwall that are working in partnership together,

:05:27. > :05:29.but as far as we are aware, nationally, there is not eight town

:05:30. > :05:33.councils that have come together to create a network such as this.

:05:34. > :05:37.This is the CCTV camera in the centre of Camborne.

:05:38. > :05:39.There's 80 of these cameras across the eight towns

:05:40. > :05:43.in West Cornwall signed up to the project and it's

:05:44. > :05:47.costing the taxpayers in those towns ?33 an hour.

:05:48. > :05:50.The town councils are sharing that cost and the community is paying

:05:51. > :05:53.via their own part of council tax bills, after cuts put a stop

:05:54. > :06:00.It gives us tremendous opportunity to contribute towards the safety

:06:01. > :06:03.of residents within Cornwall, not only to consider

:06:04. > :06:08.and identify and look at crime, but also to protect the vulnerable

:06:09. > :06:14.CCTV, seen here, is said to have played a crucial part in convicting

:06:15. > :06:17.two men for the murder of soldier Dave Curnow on a night out

:06:18. > :06:22.But where some say it is an invaluable tool,

:06:23. > :06:26.others say it violates privacy and question its effectiveness.

:06:27. > :06:29.If you are doing nothing wrong, you have absolutely nothing to worry

:06:30. > :06:33.about and I think it is definitely a deterrent there for people

:06:34. > :06:35.who are considering committing crime, or being involved

:06:36. > :06:40.Those involved say there's scope in the future for other Cornish

:06:41. > :06:48.This time next week many of you will be clearing up

:06:49. > :06:51.the debris from Christmas Day, but you may well run into problems

:06:52. > :06:55.recycling the wrapping paper as it may not be as easy as you think.

:06:56. > :06:58.There a whole raft of rules that councils are now imposing,

:06:59. > :07:02.as Harriet Bradshaw has been finding out.

:07:03. > :07:05.You've got your decorations, gifts and set aside time

:07:06. > :07:10.Well, those of us who are organised have.

:07:11. > :07:14.But when the big event is all over, what happens to all that

:07:15. > :07:19.For the first time in Exeter, the City Council is asking you not

:07:20. > :07:26.to put your Christmas wrapping paper in the household recycling bin.

:07:27. > :07:29.Officers say it is too time-consuming for their team

:07:30. > :07:34.to separate it from better quality paper here in Exeter.

:07:35. > :07:39.The paper mill that actually turns your old paper back into fresh

:07:40. > :07:43.newsprint can't handle this material and it can actually degrade

:07:44. > :07:47.the quality of the paper that they are trying to recycle.

:07:48. > :07:52.We send out our paper for recycling in 25-tonne loads

:07:53. > :07:55.and if there is a concentration of this type of wrapping paper,

:07:56. > :08:00.that whole 25 tonnes is rendered unable to recycle.

:08:01. > :08:04.Instead they advise you personally take it to an alternative

:08:05. > :08:08.recycling centre in the city, or just chuck it in the bin.

:08:09. > :08:11.It is disappointing that the council can't take it in the household

:08:12. > :08:15.recycling, because in so many areas areas they do take it,

:08:16. > :08:17.but people can drop it off at the recycling centre.

:08:18. > :08:20.Hopefully they won't make a special journey, but there are lots of other

:08:21. > :08:24.ways we can reduce our need for recycling at all

:08:25. > :08:29.For example, these are calendars but they could be magazines.

:08:30. > :08:32.This is last year's paper that I saved and last year's binding.

:08:33. > :08:44.Time now to take a look at the weather, and Bee's

:08:45. > :08:51.here with the forecast for the week ahead.

:08:52. > :09:01.We have had a lot of cloud across the South West today. It should be a

:09:02. > :09:07.frost free night but towards Christmas, we will start to see a

:09:08. > :09:12.bit of a change. Turning rather unsettled. Fairly dry conditions for

:09:13. > :09:18.the start of December but you can expect more rain towards Christmas.

:09:19. > :09:23.That should shift some of the mist and low cloud plaguing us for the

:09:24. > :09:31.past few days. This weather front brings a bit of light rain. For most

:09:32. > :09:36.of us, a doll and damp night but it should be frost free. Tomorrow, it

:09:37. > :09:43.will be dry with some sunshine. A lot of low cloud about but it should

:09:44. > :09:49.break up in places and then this brings in a spell of rain. Wednesday

:09:50. > :09:55.we have a bit of uncertainty thanks to this weather front. Expect a wet

:09:56. > :10:00.day on Wednesday with outbreaks of rain. Thursday a lot of cloud,

:10:01. > :10:05.slightly breezy with patchy rain but Friday we are keeping an eye on.

:10:06. > :10:09.Swinging weather front across as so into Friday and Christmas eve,

:10:10. > :10:15.saying rather blustery with heavy showers at times but on such date we

:10:16. > :10:20.should see more sunshine. Some cloud and rain out there tonight. It

:10:21. > :10:26.should be frost free. Temperatures down to three or 4 degrees. A fairly

:10:27. > :10:32.grey start tomorrow. A lot of low cloud. Some of that will persist.

:10:33. > :10:38.Sunshine once again will be quite limited and it will feel less of,

:10:39. > :10:43.temperatures of seven or 8 degrees. Wednesday we have this weather front

:10:44. > :10:46.bringing in some way but it will turn milder and we have those strong

:10:47. > :10:51.winds as we head into the weekend. Heidi Davey will be back just before

:10:52. > :10:54.6.30am tomorrow in BBC Breakfast, with the latest news from around

:10:55. > :10:56.the south west. From all of us here on the Spotlight

:10:57. > :11:03.late team, goodnight. The rest of the weekend, some rain

:11:04. > :11:11.around, windy, but with dry and bright spells.

:11:12. > :11:18.Heavy weather is brewing, it will not reach us just yet. It will take

:11:19. > :11:22.a good few days before the stormy weather reaches us. At the moment,

:11:23. > :11:26.it's just potential, nothing is certain, but it will be different to

:11:27. > :11:31.what we've had over the last few weeks, it's been so calm. We have a

:11:32. > :11:33.jet stream raging out of North America making a beeline for the UK.

:11:34. > :11:34.It
