:04:07. > :04:09.Plymouth Hospital's NHS Trust said it is a difficult decision to cancel
:04:10. > :04:12.any patient's operation and that it recognises the inconvenience
:04:13. > :04:22.It said the hospital had faced unprecedented and sustained
:04:23. > :04:27.And Barry's experience is not unique.
:04:28. > :04:31.Last year, more than 5,000 operations were cancelled
:04:32. > :04:39.And that figure has risen by around 30%.
:04:40. > :04:41.And all of those cancellations were for non-clinical reasons.
:04:42. > :04:44.Things like they lack of beds, of staff, admin error
:04:45. > :04:54.When we have a population increasing in number whose conditions
:04:55. > :04:58.are increasing in complexity, and we have more treatments we can
:04:59. > :05:01.offer those patients, there does need to be more money put
:05:02. > :05:05.into the health service so that we can deliver that.
:05:06. > :05:08.NHS England says the level of cancellations remains low at just
:05:09. > :05:13.1% out of the millions of operations performed each year.
:05:14. > :05:15.While the experience can be frustrating and upsetting,
:05:16. > :05:27.There's no two ways about it, they just cannot manage
:05:28. > :05:34.with the influx of people that are wanting beds or whatever.

:08:10. > :08:13.and those grants cannot be relied on as a continuous source of income
:08:14. > :08:21.The group is not solely dependent on its lottery grant.
:08:22. > :08:24.It also receives ?70,000 which comes from the county council
:08:25. > :08:33.Losing ?40,000 a year could be catastrophic.
:08:34. > :08:38.The worst case is we will close because it is hard to find ?40,000
:08:39. > :08:44.from small charitable fetes, car-boot sales.
:08:45. > :08:49.That does not generate enough to bridge that gap.
:08:50. > :08:53.The group here has been rated outstanding by Ofsted
:08:54. > :08:55.and with many of the children referred by the NHS,
:08:56. > :08:57.the charity applied to the health service for extra funding
:08:58. > :09:11.You know, it is tough on them as well and we understand that

:09:16. > :09:18.it could close within the year, meaning this would be the last
