:00:16. > :00:27.pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children.

:00:28. > :00:33.47-year-old Doctor Jonathan Walsh from Barnstaple was immediately

:00:34. > :00:41.sacked from his post when he was charged and the offences did not

:00:42. > :00:47.involve any of his former patients. The police said he was a

:00:48. > :00:49.professional paediatrician who had a duty to protect his charges.

:00:50. > :00:51.Today in court, 47-year-old Jonathan James Walsh pleaded guilty

:00:52. > :00:56.and ten offences of distributing indecent images of children.

:00:57. > :00:58.The offences are said to have occurred between

:00:59. > :01:00.When the investigation against Dr Walsh,

:01:01. > :01:03.seen here in the red coat, began in September 2015,

:01:04. > :01:11.he was excluded from working at the hospital.

:01:12. > :01:13.When charged the following June, he was immediately sacked.

:01:14. > :01:39.In a statement tonight, North Devon NHS Trust said:

:01:40. > :01:41.In its own statement, Devon Cornwall Police said that

:01:42. > :01:44.Walsh had been a respected paediatrician who had let himself

:01:45. > :01:50.It said the police was determined to eradicate these kinds of crimes

:01:51. > :01:56.Walsh, who now lives at Lytham St Annes in Lancashire,

:01:57. > :02:04.Paul Brennan, BBC Spotlight, Exeter Crown Court.

:02:05. > :02:07.A 58-year-old woman from Cornwall has been arrested after a car

:02:08. > :02:11.was filmed driving the wrong way along the A30 near Camborne.

:02:12. > :02:15.An off-duty bus driver filmed these pictures from a dashboard camera

:02:16. > :02:19.They show a car travelling west on the eastbound

:02:20. > :02:26.Police used a box manoeuvre to eventually bring it to a stop.

:02:27. > :02:28.There's anger at plans to cut 11 bus routes in south Devon,

:02:29. > :02:32.despite the fact they're well-used by passengers.

:02:33. > :02:36.The cuts will leave some areas of Torbay with no regular service.

:02:37. > :02:40.Bus operator Local Link is blaming increased overheads and a fall

:02:41. > :02:43.in the amount of money it gets when people travel

:02:44. > :02:52.Local Link run some of the more awkward routes in south Devon,

:02:53. > :02:56.Many of these services link residential areas

:02:57. > :02:58.with the hospital and supermarket, making them highly valued

:02:59. > :03:03.by their users, especially among those who find it difficult

:03:04. > :03:09.The number 25 serves the village of Stoke Gabriel.

:03:10. > :03:12.42 buses a week to Paignton will go altogether.

:03:13. > :03:16.My husband has got a car but we don't use it all the time,

:03:17. > :03:20.because he has got MS, and this is my only access way

:03:21. > :03:25.I'm learning to drive, so I haven't actually got a car yet,

:03:26. > :03:28.and there is no way to get out of here unless you have a bus

:03:29. > :03:33.More than 1,000 people live here and more homes are on the way.

:03:34. > :03:36.News that this service is to go has horrified the community.

:03:37. > :03:37.One of the reasons those houses were approved

:03:38. > :03:40.was because we are classed as a sustainable village,

:03:41. > :03:42.so we have the bus service, we have the pubs,

:03:43. > :03:47.Take one of those away and we are not quite

:03:48. > :03:50.South Devon has a high proportion of senior citizens

:03:51. > :03:55.The bus companies are reimbursed by the Government through the council,

:03:56. > :03:58.but Torbay picked up ?4 million of that bill last year

:03:59. > :04:01.because there wasn't enough money to cover it.

:04:02. > :04:04.The Government says funding of local bus routes is for local authorities

:04:05. > :04:10.and it spends ?250 million per year supporting services.

:04:11. > :04:13.Derek French, who runs Local Link, says it has become increasingly

:04:14. > :04:17.difficult to operate in this marketplace with fare-stage routes,

:04:18. > :04:21.due to increased overheads and reduced income, particularly

:04:22. > :04:25.mentioning the concessionary fares and how much they're reimbursed.

:04:26. > :04:28.He says the company will continue to operate in other parts

:04:29. > :04:30.of the transport industry, and they'd like to thank

:04:31. > :04:35.their customers for their loyal support over the last 13 years.

:04:36. > :04:38.Pensioners in Stoke Gabriel have been canvassed in the past

:04:39. > :04:40.about whether they would pay to safeguard the bus,

:04:41. > :04:43.but the rules state there cannot be a contribution -

:04:44. > :04:46.you either pay the full fare or use your pass.

:04:47. > :04:50.Torbay Council is looking at ways of keeping these routes going.

:04:51. > :04:52.Obviously, there are other operators in the bay,

:04:53. > :04:54.and we are also working with the Community Development Trust.

:04:55. > :04:58.They're currently building a business case to develop community

:04:59. > :05:01.transport, and we'll be looking to assist them in any way

:05:02. > :05:05.If there is to be continuity of service beyond April,

:05:06. > :05:08.a new operator will have to be found in the next few days.

:05:09. > :05:13.The Campaign For Better Transport says cutting bus routes

:05:14. > :05:19.could have a big economic impact on Torbay.

:05:20. > :05:21.I think the local council, now, is going to be

:05:22. > :05:24.talking to other operators, but will have to think creatively,

:05:25. > :05:27.perhaps resorting to community transport to keep

:05:28. > :05:34.and also keeping in mind the benefits of local buses

:05:35. > :05:41.and realising that local businesses, shops and pubs may

:05:42. > :05:45.be facing a real downfall in customers unless they can get

:05:46. > :05:49.something in place to keep buses on the road.

:05:50. > :05:51.Looe in Cornwall is one of the region's most

:05:52. > :05:56.Now a ?55 million flood scheme has been drawn up to protect

:05:57. > :06:02.If it goes ahead, it could make conditions better for fishermen

:06:03. > :06:10.Valentine's Day three years ago, a combination of high spring tides

:06:11. > :06:14.and south-east gales, which forced a tidal surge

:06:15. > :06:19.It was bad, but not out of the ordinary -

:06:20. > :06:22.tides regularly thrust their way through the drains

:06:23. > :06:26.Everyone in Looe agrees that something has got to be done.

:06:27. > :06:29.Looe is the most flooded town in the country, do you know that?

:06:30. > :06:30.Is that a fact? Mm-hmm.

:06:31. > :06:36.In 2014, obviously, we had the major floods.

:06:37. > :06:43.This is phase one, which is the lock gates, a walkway to Hannafore,

:06:44. > :06:48.sealing the seafront wall, and an extension to the pier

:06:49. > :06:52.with a outer breakwater to protect the lock gates.

:06:53. > :06:56.And the lock gates will be here, and then, obviously,

:06:57. > :06:59.with the south-easterly wind, you've got to stop that tidal surge

:07:00. > :07:03.Time and tide wait for no man,

:07:04. > :07:07.but now man can't wait to have its say.

:07:08. > :07:08.Every household gets a questionnaire,

:07:09. > :07:14.It's not just flood defence that's on the table -

:07:15. > :07:17.the creation of an outer harbour would bring bigger business

:07:18. > :07:22.This is the most important decision people in our town can make

:07:23. > :07:25.in the last 50 years and then 50 years in our future.

:07:26. > :07:30.If we don't have it, I believe that our fishing

:07:31. > :07:35.And our fishermen, they have to go out on the tide and come

:07:36. > :07:39.back in on the tide, but if we had an outer harbour

:07:40. > :07:48.The floods of 2014 forced the Environment Agency

:07:49. > :07:54.temporary barriers alongside the quayside that would cost

:07:55. > :07:59.The Harbour Commissioners consider this won't work.

:08:00. > :08:06.When the tide comes in, it comes up through the walls,

:08:07. > :08:11.and it comes up through the drainage system, so raising the walls

:08:12. > :08:16.and building a wall around the harbour wouldn't work.

:08:17. > :08:19.The Environment Agency says it can provide some money to support

:08:20. > :08:23.a scheme, but the rest will rely on Cornwall Council persuading

:08:24. > :08:29.Christine Butler, BBC Spotlight, Looe.

:08:30. > :08:33.It's St Valentine's Day and this earlier this evening Somerset's

:08:34. > :08:37.only working gas light, known as the St Valentine's Day Lamp

:08:38. > :08:43.was lit in Frome by the man who spent months restoring it.

:08:44. > :08:46.At first the flame threatened not to burn at all...

:08:47. > :08:52...but it was soon aglow in a ceremony which has been taking place

:08:53. > :08:55.for the last eight years and has included at least one proposal.

:08:56. > :08:56.Reg Ling says he loves the now-annual tradition,

:08:57. > :09:04.but is now looking for someone else to take over as lamplighter.

:09:05. > :09:07.Our main football sides have all been in action this evening.

:09:08. > :09:10.Plymouth Argyle were beaten 3-2 by Leyton Orient at Home Park,

:09:11. > :09:14.dashing hopes of rising to the top of League 2.

:09:15. > :09:16.Exeter drew at Notts County, ending their run of away wins.

:09:17. > :09:22.Yeovil also drew at home to Cambridge United.

:09:23. > :09:28.Now let's take a look at the weather.

:09:29. > :09:34.How is it looking? Thank you. Good evening. A disappointing start to

:09:35. > :09:39.things today but it did tend to brighten up and will the same

:09:40. > :09:43.tomorrow. Some heart-shaped photographs from Weather Watchers.

:09:44. > :09:49.That looks just like a heart, that cloud. Another lovely photograph

:09:50. > :09:55.here. Into tomorrow, a wet spell. Turning bread into the afternoon but

:09:56. > :09:59.the rain will be heavy at first. This front moves through and then

:10:00. > :10:02.higher pressure built in, giving fine weather through tomorrow

:10:03. > :10:08.afternoon and on to Thursday. Through tonight, the risk of mist

:10:09. > :10:11.and fog, more so for Somerset and Dorset. Some showers and they turn

:10:12. > :10:16.into persistent rain towards the end of the night, but it is mild with

:10:17. > :10:20.lows around seven or eight Celsius. A wet start tomorrow morning, rain

:10:21. > :10:24.could be heavy and thundery, and there could be some hail as well.

:10:25. > :10:29.Not a nice start. But the good news is it turns through, and pushes

:10:30. > :10:36.eastwards for something brighter from the West. Some sunshine. A

:10:37. > :10:40.spring like veal into tomorrow afternoon, temperatures into double

:10:41. > :10:43.figures and possibly the teams. Decent weather tomorrow afternoon

:10:44. > :10:47.and four Thursday with sunshine and some mist and fog at first. We tend

:10:48. > :10:49.to find more cloud thickening for Friday and Saturday.

:10:50. > :11:06.weather into the weekend. A bit of fog around to watch out for. Jon

:11:07. > :11:10.Hammond with the national forecast now.

:11:11. > :11:15.Good evening. There is some rain in the forecast but not a lot. Plenty

:11:16. > :11:21.of dry weather to look forward to as we head to the weekend. Cloud

:11:22. > :11:26.delivering some rain but plenty of spaces in between, hence my

:11:27. > :11:30.optimism. One of these blobs of cloud is producing dampness right

:11:31. > :11:34.now. We could see a glancing blow across the far south-east through

:11:35. > :11:38.the early hours and later some rain arriving across the far south-west.

:11:39. > :11:42.In between some hill fog overnight, not desperately cold, for most a

:11:43. > :11:47.touch of frost across the northern Glens of Scotland. At the other end

:11:48. > :11:50.of the UK some wet weather first thing for breakfast, pushing through

:11:51. > :11:52.Devon and Cornwall into South Wales. It won't hang around. Things will

:11:53. > :11:54.brighten up later
