:00:13. > :00:20.Good evening. Extra police patrols have been introduced in the region

:00:21. > :00:26.as a precaution following the London terror attack. Police commanders

:00:27. > :00:29.told the BBC that security has been increased at airports, main railway

:00:30. > :00:37.stations, military bases and ports. Simon Hall reports. A single word

:00:38. > :00:41.summed up the mood amongst travellers to London from the

:00:42. > :00:47.south-west today, the pies. I am going to visit my daughter. She's in

:00:48. > :00:50.Suffolk, and I am not going to be put off by a terrorist. If everyone

:00:51. > :00:58.gave in and didn't do anything it would not be British, would it? We

:00:59. > :00:59.plan to go and I am not having any terrorist affecting us. Our lives

:01:00. > :01:02.will not be affected by it, we I think it's important

:01:03. > :01:35.for a number of reasons. For ourselves, obviously,

:01:36. > :01:37.our job is to be out there to reassure the public,

:01:38. > :01:39.make everybody feel safe. I think, more importantly

:01:40. > :01:41.as a member of the public, someone who lives in this country

:01:42. > :01:44.and has resided in it all their life, I think

:01:45. > :01:47.it is important that we are able to carry on, be as resilient

:01:48. > :01:49.as possible and show these people that, you know,

:01:50. > :01:52.we can live our lives And we will live our

:01:53. > :01:59.lives quite normally. As investigations continued

:02:00. > :02:01.into yesterday's attack, one South-West terrorism expert told

:02:02. > :02:04.us it was important that people They should, of course,

:02:05. > :02:10.always be alert in public places, But, basically, don't get

:02:11. > :02:17.worried, don't get panicky. The threat for this part

:02:18. > :02:23.of the world is very low. In an open letter, Avon

:02:24. > :02:37.and Somerset Police said: As well as stations,

:02:38. > :02:42.there will be extra police patrols at the South-West airports

:02:43. > :02:44.and military bases and large public All this is not in response to any

:02:45. > :02:51.specific threat to the region, senior officers say,

:02:52. > :02:54.but a precaution. It's designed to reassure the public

:02:55. > :02:59.and to ensure that life can go on as normal in defiance of attacks

:03:00. > :03:07.which are intended to spread fear. Around 50 children from Somerset

:03:08. > :03:10.found themselves trapped inside Westminster for two hours

:03:11. > :03:14.during the terror alert. One Devon MP has been talking

:03:15. > :03:16.tonight about the way For some of these ten

:03:17. > :03:24.and 11-year-olds, But shortly after these photos

:03:25. > :03:37.were taken, they were trapped inside the Palace of Westminster

:03:38. > :03:39.as the incident unfolded. Today, a parent of one of those

:03:40. > :03:42.children still visibly upset. I'm very emotional.

:03:43. > :03:43.Heartbreaking. It's the first time I have ever

:03:44. > :03:46.let my son go anywhere He was very cuddly when he saw

:03:47. > :03:54.me first last night. The 53 children and seven

:03:55. > :04:02.staff were ushered to the Central Lobby at Westminster

:04:03. > :04:04.- a safe place, but still within 50 metres of where the police

:04:05. > :04:07.officer was stabbed. The deputy head kept spirits

:04:08. > :04:12.up by singing hymns. Yeah, we had a lovely ripple

:04:13. > :04:15.of applause at the end and, beautifully, lots of people,

:04:16. > :04:18.lots of MPs on the way out congratulated our children on how

:04:19. > :04:20.well they sang and how they lightened the mood,

:04:21. > :04:25.so that was lovely to hear. Meanwhile, back at the School

:04:26. > :04:27.at Bridgwater, text messages

:04:28. > :04:28.were sent to worried parents. And then we said to parents

:04:29. > :04:31.that they could come We had teas and coffees

:04:32. > :04:34.and the Salvation Army were here and our local vicar

:04:35. > :04:37.helping parents to process At the school today,

:04:38. > :04:50.everyone is well. The Prime Minister was also

:04:51. > :04:52.impressed by everyone's bravery. It must have particularly

:04:53. > :04:54.difficult for those children who were here and being caught

:04:55. > :04:57.up in this. We should commend the work

:04:58. > :05:14.of their teachers in offering them MPs have been returning from London

:05:15. > :05:17.but the message that action is being taken to keep us safe. This is the

:05:18. > :05:22.first time up at an attack like this in Westminster, so we need to keep

:05:23. > :05:25.it in proportion, but the police are reviewing the situation in London

:05:26. > :05:28.and Westminster and the Chief Constable will be working with his

:05:29. > :05:32.team in Devon and Cornwall to make sure that any relevant measures are

:05:33. > :05:37.put in place. It is a trip these youngsters will not forget. But it

:05:38. > :05:40.will not stop them doing what they want to do in future.

:05:41. > :05:43.A look at some of the other stories making the news tonight.

:05:44. > :05:46.Offers of help have been made to try to keep

:05:47. > :05:49.the Isles of Scilly's only care home open.

:05:50. > :05:53.The council, which runs Park House, says it's had interest

:05:54. > :05:55.in carers' jobs and offers of accommodation for staff.

:05:56. > :06:00.It's facing closure because of problems recruiting people.

:06:01. > :06:02.The number of child sex offences recorded in the South West

:06:03. > :06:05.is at an all-time high, according to the NSPCC.

:06:06. > :06:08.there were nearly 1,500 cases last year - that's up 10%.

:06:09. > :06:11.Cornwall is the fifth-worst performing area in the country

:06:12. > :06:15.for getting patients out of hospital and back home.

:06:16. > :06:17.The independent health charity the Nuffield Trust says that

:06:18. > :06:21.for every 1,000 patients, 43 can't go home

:06:22. > :06:25.because social care packages aren't in place.

:06:26. > :06:29.Cornish cyclist Wendy Houvenaghel says a "medal at any cost" approach

:06:30. > :06:34.created a "culture of fear" at British Cycling.

:06:35. > :06:35.The Olympic silver medallist claims

:06:36. > :06:37.there was also no regard for welfare.

:07:19. > :07:25.You never know what will come through your front door.

:07:26. > :07:28.When Sky first arrived she had black hair, thick black make-up

:07:29. > :07:39.Slowly, over the weeks and months that have

:07:40. > :07:41.now turned into years, she has grown up, matured.

:07:42. > :07:47.It is a delight to look after a lot of these children.

:07:48. > :07:51.They just need to be loved, they need support,

:07:52. > :07:59.That is the sort of carer of that Plymouth City Council are looking

:08:00. > :08:02.for, a foster parent who is looking to help change a vulnerable child

:08:39. > :08:43.who is broken, maybe feeling very unloved, and it is about giving them

:08:44. > :08:46.a family environment they're not used to have the chance to feel

:08:47. > :08:50.better about themselves and excel in life and go somewhere.

:08:51. > :08:57.There may be trouble at first, they could be cheeky or very quiet

:08:58. > :09:00.but they will come out of their shell in their own time.
