:00:20. > :00:22.Alexander Blackman's murder conviction has already been

:00:23. > :00:28.But today a decision on his new sentence was deferred.

:00:29. > :00:32.Here's our Somerset correspondent Clinton Rogers.

:00:33. > :00:36.To cheers from waiting supporters, Alexander Blackman's wife arrived

:00:37. > :00:39.at the High Court full of hope that her husband might be

:00:40. > :00:50.Two hours later, she left disappointed but philosophical.

:00:51. > :00:53.We are obviously disappointed not to have a decision today

:00:54. > :00:56.but we understand that the judges wish to consider this important

:00:57. > :01:00.We will patiently await their ruling.

:01:01. > :01:08.The same five judges that ten days ago reduced Blackman's conviction

:01:09. > :01:10.from murder to manslaughter say they need until next Tuesday

:01:11. > :01:19.He's already served three and half years of an eight-year

:01:20. > :01:23.sentence for murder imposed by the original court martial.

:01:24. > :01:26.But this case has now provoked calls for the whole court-martial

:01:27. > :01:33.Members of the Armed Forces should not be disadvantaged...

:01:34. > :01:36.In the House of Lords, Liberal Democrat peer Lord Burnett,

:01:37. > :01:40.himself a former Royal Marine, said the system was flawed and more

:01:41. > :01:48.A simple majority at a court-martial can convict a person.

:01:49. > :01:52.In Sergeant Blackman's case, five of the panel found him guilty

:01:53. > :01:59.That ratio would be insufficient to convict

:02:00. > :02:13.And a former naval commander and one-time head of the UK

:02:14. > :02:16.Royal Marines reserves has said important lessons need to be learned

:02:17. > :02:18.from the Blackman case, not least to consider the mental

:02:19. > :02:20.health of military men involved in such cases

:02:21. > :02:24.Where there are serious charges of this nature,

:02:25. > :02:26.where the accused have been involved in operational combat situations,

:02:27. > :02:33.it should be mandatory that the mental health factors

:02:34. > :02:35.are taken into account at the first opportunity.

:02:36. > :02:38.Today at the Appeal Court Blackman's QC said the former Royal Marine

:02:39. > :02:41.was the last casualties of a failed war and he should be

:03:46. > :03:53.to welcome the ship and their loved ones home.

:03:54. > :03:55.The helicopter carrier and assault ship's crew of 500 now

:03:56. > :03:58.have a period of leave before Ocean makes one final deployment

:03:59. > :04:00.prior to being taken out of service next year.

:04:01. > :04:09.Picking up where they left off, families reunited after more

:04:10. > :04:17.It has been a long six and a half months away.

:04:18. > :04:19.Especially without seeing the little ones and stuff.

:04:20. > :04:26.Two weeks and I ended up having to move house

:04:27. > :04:28.and had another baby, so now I will carry

:04:29. > :04:39.This had been Ocean's longest deployment, and one of her last.

:04:40. > :04:43.The helicopter carrier and amphibious assault ship is due to be

:04:44. > :04:48.It is the penultimate deployment for HMS Ocean based

:04:49. > :04:52.However, we have a follow-on deployment after this and we will be

:04:53. > :04:54.sailing later in the year, so actually we're busy preparing

:04:55. > :04:58.for that, believe it or not, even though we've come home today.

:04:59. > :05:01.The Prime Minister, Theresa May, visited HMS Ocean during a trip

:05:02. > :05:10.It's likely that many of the 500 strong crew will be required to work

:05:11. > :05:12.For the crew, after a tour which has taken them thousands

:05:13. > :05:14.of miles around the Med and the Gulf, there

:05:15. > :05:18.Missed your birthday, missed Christmas.

:05:19. > :05:28.We will be having Christmas when we go back as well now.

:05:29. > :05:52.Great to see them back but are they coming back to decent weather? It's

:05:53. > :05:55.David. We have had a few good sunsets this

:05:56. > :05:59.evening and I think overnight tonight and into the weekend

:06:00. > :06:02.we are going to see a lot of fine It's going to be quite windy,

:06:03. > :06:06.that's a feature of the weather, It will be fine and dry,

:06:11. > :06:12.during the daytime. So, the high pressure

:06:13. > :06:14.is pretty much with us. It's close to these two

:06:15. > :06:16.areas of low pressure, so the isobars are really squeezed

:06:17. > :06:19.up, that's the reason for the strength of wind,

:06:20. > :06:21.which stays strong white through the weekend ahead

:06:22. > :06:23.although even a little bit The few showers that we had

:06:24. > :06:28.across the far west of Cornwall have now moved out of the way

:06:29. > :06:31.and the skies are now clear and they will stay that way

:06:32. > :06:33.overnight the night. Brisk winds from the North East

:06:34. > :06:36.will develop late in the night and apart from a bit of patchy low

:06:37. > :06:39.cloud floating past, it's clear, Temperatures could be as low

:06:40. > :06:43.as three or four Celsius in towns and villages but I wouldn't be

:06:44. > :06:46.surprised if it was one or two degrees below that in some

:06:47. > :06:49.of the more countryside locations. Tomorrow it's a struggle

:06:50. > :06:51.with the temperatures if you're right on the coast because of that

:06:52. > :06:54.keen wind but inland out of the breeze we could easily see

:06:55. > :06:57.14, maybe 15 Celsius and as you can A bit more cloud floating past

:06:58. > :07:06.but other than that it is a fine, Don't forget on Saturday night
