:00:56. > :00:59.this and next door can no longer afford to keep it open.

:01:00. > :01:07.And the fear that we're going to be closing down,

:01:08. > :01:09.I really am quite, how should I say, mad about it?

:01:10. > :01:11.Many of the residents have found new accommodation,

:01:12. > :01:27.I don't want to move. I want to stay put, where I am now.

:01:43. > :01:46.But, due to the location of the zones, and the difficulty

:01:47. > :01:49.in recruiting staff, it says it's got no option but to close them.

:01:50. > :01:59.There's guys like us, are big enough,

:02:00. > :02:01.ugly enough, and clever enough to adapt to change.

:02:02. > :02:12.Research suggests that more than half

:02:13. > :02:16.expect to be running at a loss within the next two years.

:02:17. > :02:19.And with costs set to rise by 50% by 2020, services in Devon

:02:20. > :02:22.and Cornwall will close unless they get more money

:02:23. > :02:26.It is hoped the ?2 billion the government is promising to spend

:02:27. > :02:34.on social care will help prevent the closure of more loans.

:02:35. > :02:38.But it's too little too late for those like Mark.

:02:39. > :02:41.I am very upset about it. I was in tears this morning as well.

:02:42. > :02:47.It is like being put out on the street.

:02:48. > :02:54.Well, as we heard, the homes which are closing

:02:55. > :03:05.which has 21 residential care homes across the South West.

:03:06. > :03:07.Its Chief Executive, Robert Longley-Cook

:03:08. > :03:10.It is an incredibly difficult decision and

:03:11. > :03:13.one that we would fight tooth and nail not to let it happen.

:03:14. > :03:16.It is a national issue. It needs a national solution.

:03:17. > :03:18.But what you can see is that the people who will be impacted

:03:19. > :03:23.And I can quite understand why

:03:24. > :03:27.And actually, we are so sorry about the impact it is having

:03:28. > :03:33.A six-year-old girl has been seriously injured

:03:34. > :03:36.in a collision with a pick-up truck in Teignmouth.

:03:37. > :03:38.The incident happened in Bitton Park Road

:03:39. > :03:41.The girl was taken to Bristol Children's Hospital.

:03:42. > :03:42.The road was closed for some time

:03:43. > :03:47.whilst investigations were carried out.

:03:48. > :03:49.Tributes have been paid to a junior doctor found dead

:03:50. > :03:55.Dr Rebecca Ovenden, who was 32, posted on social media

:03:56. > :03:58.about the pressures of working in A

:04:22. > :04:23.and two parishes in Devon, for nine years.

:04:24. > :04:29.He'll become a senior aide to the Archbishop of Canterbury.

:04:30. > :04:33.From his enthronement, Bishop Tim was popular.

:04:34. > :04:36.Mainly because he was keen to mix with his flock.

:04:37. > :04:38.Brought up in Plymouth, he understood the needs of Cornwall

:04:39. > :04:41.but today said he had to leave sometime.

:04:42. > :04:44.I have very much mixed emotions on a day like today.

:04:45. > :04:52.I have a fantastic team here, and I am very confident

:04:53. > :04:54.that they will carry on with the good work,

:04:55. > :04:59.and I am also confident that the diocese is in good heart.

:05:00. > :05:02.On his watch, it's been one of only three in the country

:05:03. > :05:07.So his departure has left some sadness.

:05:08. > :05:15.He will talk to everybody, which is what you want with a bishop.

:05:16. > :05:18.He is like an ordinary clergyman, at an ordinary church.

:05:19. > :05:20.If they are not with the people, then

:05:21. > :05:25.I am quite sad to see him go, but then I think it's a promotion,

:05:26. > :05:27.I expect, and I'm very pleased for him.

:05:28. > :05:37.Bishop Tim used his place in the House of Lords

:05:38. > :05:42.to raise issues of poverty and social injustice.

:05:43. > :05:47.That has been a real important piece of work for me and for Cornwall,

:05:48. > :05:49.putting on the map the realities that, actually, Cornwall isn't

:05:50. > :05:53.as it sometimes is seen around the rest of this country.

:05:54. > :05:57.And I've had a tremendous privilege of going around and visiting people,

:05:58. > :06:00.some of whom are really struggling to survive, day by day, so that has

:06:01. > :06:06.Bishop Tim chaired a parliamentary inquiry into hunger

:06:07. > :06:08.and food poverty which led to the charity, Feeding Britain,

:06:09. > :06:12.Don Gardner, who runs a food bank in Cornwall,

:06:13. > :06:16.says he will miss the support of the Bishop.

:06:17. > :06:19.Although he may be a bishop, he does know the grassroots.

:06:20. > :06:21.He has been on the shop floor. He does see the problems.

:06:22. > :06:31.And, to me, that is important for the work I do.

:06:32. > :06:34.He takes up his new role as Bishop at Lambeth in September.

:06:35. > :06:37.His duties will include supporting the Archbishop of Canterbury's

:06:38. > :06:48.It will be next year before there's a new bishop.

:06:49. > :06:51.The 75th anniversary of the sinking of two Devonport battle cruisers

:06:52. > :06:52.by Japanese aircraft in the Second World War

:06:53. > :06:55.was commemorated during a special service and wreath laying

:06:56. > :07:00.Hundreds of men were lost when HMS Dorsetshire and HMS Cornwall

:07:01. > :07:11.were bombed in the Indian Ocean on Easter Sunday in 1942.

:07:12. > :07:15.It was about as far west as the Japanese came.

:07:16. > :07:18.Given that we lost HMS Dorsetshire and HMS Cornwall and then Hermes,

:07:19. > :07:21.the following day, with about 400 people lost in the water, it was

:07:22. > :07:29.One has to remember the context of when it happened, as well.

:07:30. > :07:36.Now, how did you learn maths at school?

:07:37. > :07:38.A school in Cornwall has come up with what they think

:07:39. > :07:42.is the perfect way to help the children with their sums.

:07:43. > :07:56.School is simply more fun with a couple of lambs.

:07:57. > :07:59.They don't know the rules of hopscotch but they are good

:08:00. > :08:02.This school has adopted Charlie and Titch after

:08:03. > :08:04.they were orphaned and caring for them is a full-time job.

:08:05. > :08:12.You put the bottle on top of the lamb's tongue so

:08:13. > :08:15.that it can suck it down, and it is easier

:08:16. > :08:17.if you hold it by the Chin so

:08:18. > :08:19.that it does not mouth its mouth, and they have got teeth,

:08:20. > :08:24.So they could actually give you a bit of a bite.

:08:25. > :08:29.They don't use them for biting people.

:08:30. > :08:32.They are just for biting leaves and plants.

:08:33. > :08:33.What happens when you were feeding them?

:08:34. > :08:37.Did it think your finger was a bottle?

:08:38. > :08:40.The benefits to the children are fantastic.

:08:41. > :08:47.They have to weigh out the milk powder and the water to

:08:48. > :08:50.mix with it and get everything in the right ratio and then

:08:51. > :08:53.they have to weigh the lambs, then you have got

:08:54. > :08:55.looking after animals and taking care which is good for

:08:56. > :09:06.So how do you weigh a wriggling lamb?

:09:07. > :09:15.These lambs are getting bigger every day so when they get

:09:16. > :09:18.too big for the classroom, what happens?

:09:19. > :09:20.The head teacher says that the children will make the decision

:09:21. > :09:25.so they might just be added to the school register, after all.

:09:26. > :09:32.Time now for the weather with David Braine.

:09:33. > :09:41.The weather is looking promising for the next few days. Before I go

:09:42. > :09:46.forward I will quickly look back. March was unusually mild, one of the

:09:47. > :09:51.mildest since records began in 1910. The average temperature was 8.5

:09:52. > :09:56.Celsius. It is not particularly warm now. We have the risk of some frost

:09:57. > :10:01.light winds but we will also get light winds but we will also get

:10:02. > :10:05.some sunshine. This high pressure will be around for a few days so get

:10:06. > :10:09.used to the settled weather. At night, quite chilly were some places

:10:10. > :10:16.getting down as low as three degrees. A nice day tomorrow plenty

:10:17. > :10:22.of sunshine. Patchy cloud drifting from the North from time to time.

:10:23. > :10:27.Temperatures around 12, 13 Celsius. It may feel warmer than that in the

:10:28. > :10:33.sunshine. More cloud around on Thursday. That would block out the

:10:34. > :10:38.sunshine but sunny spells are still possible. By the time we get to the

:10:39. > :10:44.end of the week, things start to warm up. Thursday and Friday, more

:10:45. > :10:48.in the way of sunshine and by the weekend we have warm air and higher

:10:49. > :10:49.temperatures and staying dry. Have a good night.

:10:50. > :10:54.That's all from the team here for now.

:10:55. > :11:00.Our breakfast news is from 6:25am tomorrow. Have a good night.

:11:01. > :11:03.bit from the south, so we could get to 18 or higher on Sunday. Now the

:11:04. > :11:14.national focus. Good evening, things are looking good in the next

:11:15. > :11:18.few days, some pressure drifting in from the Atlantic, bringing some

:11:19. > :11:21.finance settled with it. Just some questions about the amount of cloud

:11:22. > :11:25.we will see under that. The cloud we saw the sea links gave rise to a

:11:26. > :11:29.lovely sunsets are many areas. This is the view from one of our weather

:11:30. > :11:31.watchers in Cornwall. Look at the tones in the sky in Warwickshire

:11:32. > :11:33.this evening.
