:00:38. > :00:40.She said as she shouted to her two young boys to move

:00:41. > :00:42.higher onto the rocks, two huge waves suddenly swept her,

:00:43. > :00:46.her husband and her two-year-old girl Mckayla into the sea.

:00:47. > :00:49.She said Mckayla was strapped into her pushchair.

:00:50. > :00:52.She said somehow her husband Rudy managed to set her free

:00:53. > :00:59.When she next saw him he wasn't moving.

:01:26. > :01:30.We didn't have time to react and my sons and I have been left

:01:31. > :01:39.Rudy was a loving husband and a wonderful father.

:01:40. > :01:41.He leaves a void which can never be filled.

:01:42. > :01:50.Mckayla, our gorgeous, beautiful baby, is forever

:01:51. > :01:53.in our hearts and the pain myself and the boys feel at losing

:01:54. > :02:02.Eleanor Parkinson with that report from Newquay.

:02:03. > :02:05.The race is now on following the vote earlier by MPs for a snap

:02:06. > :02:12.Our reporter Hamish Marshall has spent the day on a road trip

:02:13. > :02:17.between three of the region's key battle ground areas in Devon.

:02:18. > :02:21.50 days from decision day and whose shoes do

:02:22. > :02:27.The parties have seven weeks to make their pitch.

:02:28. > :02:32.This is Exeter, the small, red dot in the largely blue

:02:33. > :02:39.And it was one of only three places in the south-west to vote Remain

:02:40. > :02:45.So what do people here think about going to the polls again?

:02:46. > :02:47.I think she is doing the right thing.

:02:48. > :02:53.Whether I will vote for her is another matter.

:02:54. > :02:57.This will tell us where the country lies.

:02:58. > :03:00.And the snap election has caught 18-year-olds who will get a say

:03:01. > :03:04.Probably should look into stuff before I decide because I don't

:03:05. > :03:07.really know anything about it because obviously it hasn't mattered

:03:08. > :03:12.to me because I couldn't really do anything.

:03:13. > :03:15.20 miles or so down the road and things are different, in terms

:03:16. > :03:22.For 18 years until 2015, Torbay was held by the Liberal Democrats,

:03:23. > :03:26.and they will hope to try to win this seat back.

:03:27. > :03:29.But there was a problem - Torbay had the strongest vote

:03:30. > :03:35.in the south-west for Brexit, with 63% last year.

:03:36. > :03:37.We need to be England, Great Britain.

:03:38. > :03:47.Up to now, she has not let me down, Theresa May, that is.

:03:48. > :03:51.But some are considering switching parties.

:03:52. > :03:56.If that helps and it helps keep the European idea together then,

:03:57. > :04:06.Nationally, a lot of the talk has been about the problems

:04:07. > :04:10.that the Labour Party is facing nationally.

:04:11. > :04:15.But here they have hopes of winning both of the seats in the city.

:04:16. > :04:26.I just think they're stupid to get out of the EU.

:04:27. > :04:33.Yeah, it will be interesting to see what the outcome is.

:04:34. > :04:37.I think if it is going to happen, people fighting against it happening

:04:38. > :04:43.But to get your vote, all sides will be fighting hard

:04:44. > :04:50.There've been reassurances over a massive new tungsten mine

:04:51. > :04:52.on the edge of Dartmoor which is still struggling

:04:53. > :04:56.A shake-up in senior management is imminent and, behind the scenes,

:04:57. > :04:58.extra finance has had to be arranged.

:04:59. > :05:03.Our business correspondent Neil Gallacher reports.

:05:04. > :05:06.Britain's first new metals mine for 40 years represents

:05:07. > :05:10.an old industry being reborn, but the birth and the early months

:05:11. > :05:16.The vast new mill at the mine has had problems processing its first

:05:17. > :05:23.In recent weeks, the mine has announced increased half-yearly

:05:24. > :05:32.It has gone back to its shareholders for a further loan of ?10 million.

:05:33. > :05:34.There is about to be a shake-up of senior management at this

:05:35. > :05:36.Australian-owned firm, to ensure the right level

:05:37. > :05:41.of expertise is permanently on-site in the UK.

:05:42. > :05:44.Another problem is that the tungsten price has fallen steeply

:05:45. > :05:48.In theory, a mine can be mothballed until prices are high enough

:05:49. > :05:54.but industry watchers think this one will stay in production.

:05:55. > :05:57.That is helping to repay the finances, and also equipment

:05:58. > :06:01.doesn't tend to improve by being just left there and not

:06:02. > :06:04.being used, so I think the company will take the view that actually

:06:05. > :06:09.keeping it going and making these improvements, in terms of personnel,

:06:10. > :06:11.technology and operational matters, that they are doing at the moment,

:06:12. > :06:18.Locally, opinions about the mine vary.

:06:19. > :06:21.Some people are annoyed with the mine just because of

:06:22. > :06:24.the blasts that they receive, you know, and it shakes their house

:06:25. > :06:27.and they feel they will not be able to sell their houses probably

:06:28. > :06:31.And it generates a lot of business for the area also.

:06:32. > :06:35.There was a period of about 4-5 months where there was petitions,

:06:36. > :06:38.a lot of talk from particular locals who were very unhappy about it.

:06:39. > :06:46.I think as time has gone on, people have just accepted it is there,

:06:47. > :06:51.It has created jobs for the local area and there is not a huge amount

:06:52. > :06:56.Wolf Minerals had no one available for interview.

:06:57. > :07:03.Armed with its bridging loans, the mine soldiers on.

:07:04. > :07:06.Jack Nowell has become the first ever Exeter Chiefs player to be

:07:07. > :07:11.The 24-year-old was today named in the squad for the summer

:07:12. > :07:15.The first the Cornishman heard of it was when the touring party

:07:16. > :07:21.And, as Andy Birkett found out, there was quite a celebration.

:07:22. > :07:32.Jack Nowell, Exeter Chiefs and England.

:07:33. > :07:36.To be named and that is obviously a massive thing for myself and,

:07:37. > :07:39.you know, people who have got me there as well, so I am

:07:40. > :07:44.Not only to play for their country but also to go on tour

:07:45. > :07:49.Yeah, hopefully, given that chance now, it's going to be

:07:50. > :07:54.It's a chance the popular Cornishman has earned and everyone around

:07:55. > :07:57.the club is naturally delighted for him.

:07:58. > :08:00.To have a current British Lion in your team is fantastic but for it

:08:01. > :08:03.to be one of the players who has come through your academy

:08:04. > :08:06.system and have only played their premiership rugby

:08:07. > :08:10.at one club and become an international here and now

:08:11. > :08:12.become a British Lion, it doesn't really get

:08:13. > :08:14.any better than that from a club perspective,

:08:15. > :08:18.and for me as well, the fact that it has happened to such a good guy,

:08:19. > :08:24.Despite his rapid rise from mini junior at the Pirates,

:08:25. > :08:26.through Truro College, to now becoming a Premiership

:08:27. > :08:29.and England regular, he is still Jack from Newlyn.

:08:30. > :08:36.To be honest, when I was home this weekend, they treat me the same.

:08:37. > :08:40.I still get to pop down to the local and have a pint now and again

:08:41. > :08:42.and a few bike rides along Newlyn Green and things.

:08:43. > :08:45.I don't think it will be too much different but, you know,

:08:46. > :08:49.It is nice to be able to share that with them.

:08:50. > :08:52.Can you talk me through this, Jack, and tell me about your dream

:08:53. > :09:08.We all got given one of them when we went on one of our tours

:09:09. > :09:11.when we were younger but I never thought I would be

:09:12. > :09:16.Let's take a look at what the weather's got

:09:17. > :09:30.It is going to be a bit of a shock when we get some rain and cloudy

:09:31. > :09:32.skies as we have had some lovely weather. It will not change

:09:33. > :09:35.dramatically over the next few days. dramatically over the next few days.

:09:36. > :09:41.The main area of whether is coming on Monday probably. Some cloud

:09:42. > :09:45.tomorrow, mostly dry and some sunshine but not quite the blue

:09:46. > :09:50.weather fronts coming down from the weather fronts coming down from the

:09:51. > :09:53.North and bumping into this high-pressure introducing more cloud

:09:54. > :09:58.and summer has come down to the Irish Sea and Wales this afternoon

:09:59. > :10:05.move across us later on. By the move across us later on. By the

:10:06. > :10:12.morning, just an outside chance of a light shower along the North Devon

:10:13. > :10:18.coast but most of us fine and dry but rather cloudy. 4-6 is minimum

:10:19. > :10:22.temperature tonight. Tomorrow, sunny spells in the morning, more cloud

:10:23. > :10:27.for all of us in general tomorrow. The chance of a light shower but

:10:28. > :10:31.most of us having a dry day. The best of the sunshine on the south

:10:32. > :10:38.coast. Similar weather on Friday. Dry, bright, a lot of cloud at

:10:39. > :10:42.times, 15-16 the top temperature. On the weather front arrives on

:10:43. > :10:45.Saturday which is a bit thicker. Still dry weather and sunshine to

:10:46. > :10:47.enjoy as we go into Sunday. Have a good night.

:10:48. > :10:49.That's how the news and weather's looking tonight.

:10:50. > :10:50.Breakfast bulletins start from 6.25 tomorrow.

:10:51. > :11:03.going into the weekend as well. A similar story across the UK. Thomas

:11:04. > :11:13.matter has that story. Good evening, before we get to the

:11:14. > :11:19.forecast, I want to show you a map which depicts how dry it has been

:11:20. > :11:24.during the course of April. Brown is below average rainfall, blue is

:11:25. > :11:28.above average. You can see how Brown the map is. Some areas in the south,

:11:29. > :11:36.some counties have only seen a few percent so far in April. Not

:11:37. > :11:37.necessarily a good thing at all. The rest of the week, not an awful lot
