:00:12. > :00:13.Good evening. for the news where you are.

:00:14. > :00:16.A man has been taken to hospital after the car he was in fell 60 feet

:00:17. > :00:19.over a cliff on the north Cornwall coast.

:00:20. > :00:22.Emergency services were called to Polzeath just before

:00:23. > :00:27.Our reporter Christine Butler reports.

:00:28. > :00:31.Looking over the cliff, it's a shocking view.

:00:32. > :00:35.Police have told me the gentleman was parked in one of these parking

:00:36. > :00:39.bays here and he went into reverse, they don't know how,

:00:40. > :00:41.but certainly he took this post down here.

:00:42. > :00:45.You can see some tyre tracks in the grass and he shot up over

:00:46. > :00:48.this hill and down the cliff the other side.

:00:49. > :00:52.That is about a 50-60 foot drop and you can see

:00:53. > :00:58.The driver's side facing the floor, if you like,

:00:59. > :01:05.He was rescued with the help of coastguard, the RNLI lifeguards,

:01:06. > :01:08.fire and ambulance, but ultimately they had to recover him

:01:09. > :01:12.from the vehicle, which is down in the cove there on the sand,

:01:13. > :01:16.and then into a rip, where they then conveyed him around

:01:17. > :01:18.to the beach where the air ambulance was waiting.

:01:19. > :01:21.And he was lifted by helicopter to Derriford Hospital.

:01:22. > :01:26.The casualty was conscious and complaining of chest injuries.

:01:27. > :01:29.He was very fortunate that people saw what was going

:01:30. > :01:34.on and they responded really quite quickly, because it is quite

:01:35. > :01:38.Police are still investigating what happened and will consider

:01:39. > :01:46.recovery of the vehicle from the beach tomorrow.

:01:47. > :01:50.Secondary schools in Devon say they are cutting hundreds of jobs

:01:51. > :01:54.and removing the number of courses on offer to balance their books.

:01:55. > :01:59.Information given to the BBC from 27 secondary schools reveals more

:02:00. > :02:04.than 80 teaching assistant and 50 teaching posts will go

:02:05. > :02:15.A subject these students have chosen to do, but one

:02:16. > :02:22.It is, like, one of my favourite lessons, so it is quite worrying

:02:23. > :02:25.that I might not be able to do it any more.

:02:26. > :02:28.If we do our shows and stuff, if the lights break,

:02:29. > :02:30.we won't have the lights for our productions

:02:31. > :02:33.Reducing the number of courses on offer is just one way schools

:02:34. > :02:39.It is something we have heard before, now headteachers in 13

:02:40. > :02:43.counties, including Devon and Cornwall, have crunched

:02:44. > :02:48.the sums and say thousands of teaching jobs are being cut.

:02:49. > :02:50.When I took over at Newton Abbot College,

:02:51. > :02:53.I had ten on the senior team and then in September,

:02:54. > :02:57.when we reopen for the new academic year, I will have six in total.

:02:58. > :03:00.We will be running curriculum with less staff which will lead

:03:01. > :03:03.to increasing class sizes, so we have to ensure that

:03:04. > :03:06.when we are delivering that curriculum, that the quality

:03:07. > :03:08.of the lessons is still where it should be.

:03:09. > :03:11.Devon has taken the unusual step of collating its data.

:03:12. > :03:16.284 posts in secondary schools here will go and that includes 86

:03:17. > :03:21.teaching assistants, 55 teachers, 35 senior leaders,

:03:22. > :03:27.There are also extra curricular activities which are being reduced

:03:28. > :03:34.Even providing transport for vulnerable children has been

:03:35. > :03:39.affected in all but one of the 27 secondary schools surveyed.

:03:40. > :03:44.And headteachers are taking pay cuts to protect other posts.

:03:45. > :03:48.The children in this country are the future of this country

:03:49. > :03:51.and if we not providing them, all of them with equitable

:03:52. > :03:56.opportunities to have an academic education, to have good enrichment

:03:57. > :03:58.education, what is the future of this country going to look

:03:59. > :04:04.The Department for Education says it hasn't reduced the money it gives

:04:05. > :04:08.schools in real terms, but with rising costs,

:04:09. > :04:17.headteachers say a funding crisis is well and truly underway.

:04:18. > :04:20.In a month we go to the polls in the general election

:04:21. > :04:27.Our political editor Martyn Oates is here with us this evening.

:04:28. > :04:31.As well as rising costs overall, there is a row about how funding

:04:32. > :04:33.is allocated throughout the country, isn't there?

:04:34. > :04:38.For years, pupils in rural areas like Devon have received

:04:39. > :04:40.significantly less money per head than the national average.

:04:41. > :04:42.Been a lot of campaigning about that.

:04:43. > :04:44.Recently the government has come up with proposed changes.

:04:45. > :04:48.The problem is that has resulted in quite a lot of schools in places

:04:49. > :04:52.like the south-west and elsewhere ending up with even less money.

:04:53. > :04:54.As you can imagine, a lot of Conservatives

:04:55. > :04:56.locally have taken issue with their own government on this.

:04:57. > :04:59.That is continuing even in a general election campaign.

:05:00. > :05:02.They want the Prime Minister to change her mind.

:05:03. > :05:05.The problem is if she does, what do you say to the many schools

:05:06. > :05:09.in the South West who have got more money from these changes?

:05:10. > :05:12.What are the main parties saying about education in the run-up

:05:13. > :05:18.A big row among the Conservatives over this.

:05:19. > :05:21.Among the opponents are seven former MPs in Devon who want to be

:05:22. > :05:26.Lib Dem, Labour and Ukip politicians have been very critical

:05:27. > :05:29.of the proposed changes, but not yet, as far as I can see,

:05:30. > :05:31.come up with any concrete alternatives, but of course

:05:32. > :05:33.we haven't seen the party manifestos yet.

:05:34. > :05:41.A Somerset woman who was attacked by her boyfriend has posted online

:05:42. > :05:45.pictures of her battered face to highlight the problem

:05:46. > :05:50.Caroline Way was beaten up three years ago.

:05:51. > :05:54.In response, she took selfies of her face for six weeks afterwards.

:05:55. > :05:58.Caroline says she wants the pictures to act

:05:59. > :06:01.as a warning to other women in potentially abusive

:06:02. > :06:08.And here was exactly where it happened.

:06:09. > :06:14.It is not easy for Caroline Way to relive what happened in this

:06:15. > :06:21.I was on the floor and he pinned my arms to my side and sat on me,

:06:22. > :06:24.so that I couldn't fight back, strangled me and then

:06:25. > :06:29.Then said he was going to take me upstairs

:06:30. > :06:32.She did survive, but her injuries were horrific.

:06:33. > :06:35.Broken jaw, cracked eye socket, blurred vision.

:06:36. > :06:38.And in the days that followed, she took selfies, photos

:06:39. > :06:44.Three years on, she has decided to post these pictures online

:06:45. > :06:48.as a warning to other women in potentially abusive

:06:49. > :06:52.I think enough time had passed for me to have dealt

:06:53. > :06:56.with a lot of the raw, emotional side of things and I just

:06:57. > :07:02.wanted to make sure that if I can help anyone to not get themselves

:07:03. > :07:05.into this situation, then that was the reason behind it.

:07:06. > :07:10.Caroline's boyfriend at the time was given a two-year

:07:11. > :07:15.She says that in the eight years they were together,

:07:16. > :07:19.this was the first time he had physically assaulted her.

:07:20. > :07:21.Yet with hindsight, she should have seen the warning signs.

:07:22. > :07:34.It was an afternoon of celebration in Plymouth, as for the first time

:07:35. > :07:37.in more than a decade, the Pilgrims secured promotion.

:07:38. > :07:41.Thousands of Plymouth Argyle fans turned out to cheer the players

:07:42. > :07:44.on as they toured the city in an open-top bus.

:07:45. > :07:50.It has been an absolutely brilliant evening down

:07:51. > :07:53.here at the Council House, and, well, the fans are starting

:07:54. > :07:57.to go home now, but, boy, have they celebrated hard.

:07:58. > :08:00.The players arrived down here on an open-top bus.

:08:01. > :08:08.It was fantastic to be part of it and just close up with the players

:08:09. > :08:10.and see them enjoying themselves, and the kids running

:08:11. > :08:14.There was a car that we heard five times beeping its horn,

:08:15. > :08:17.that we caught up with three or four times and really, for them,

:08:18. > :08:20.it's a great achievement this year to get promotion and this sort

:08:21. > :08:24.of evening is great for them to meet the fans, the fans to see them

:08:25. > :08:27.What comes next is going to be interesting watch.

:08:28. > :08:30.And the fans are still here, they are very loyal, aren't they?

:08:31. > :08:36.There was quite a few hundred as they were going down the main

:08:37. > :08:39.People stood on bridges clapping, kids running alongside,

:08:40. > :08:41.it really was fantastic to get down here.

:08:42. > :08:47.Looking to League 1 and next season now, who knows?

:08:48. > :08:49.Will Exeter City be joining Plymouth Argyle?

:08:50. > :09:02.Time for the weather. David is here. Lovely day today. Yes and there is

:09:03. > :09:08.more to come. This is our look forward. It looks like we will see a

:09:09. > :09:13.change at the end of this week. We start to see some thicker cloud and

:09:14. > :09:18.potentially outbreaks of rain. Chilly nights ahead of us. It is

:09:19. > :09:23.this week and the weekend. this week and the weekend.

:09:24. > :09:30.Temperatures start to come up so we hold onto this warmth but we do ten

:09:31. > :09:33.more unsettled. High-pressure covering most of the United Kingdom.

:09:34. > :09:40.After Wednesday, this area of low pressure creeps up and introduces

:09:41. > :09:45.more cloud, potentially showers on Thursday and more persistent rain on

:09:46. > :09:49.Friday. Into the weekend with south-west winds, so we will keep

:09:50. > :09:55.these temperatures but a lot more unsettled. And the potential for

:09:56. > :10:00.rain. Overnight it is already chilly and night-time temperatures will get

:10:01. > :10:05.down to four or 5 degrees. Not quite cold enough for a touch of frost but

:10:06. > :10:11.a cold start tomorrow, but also a fine one. More cloud creeping in

:10:12. > :10:16.from the east and every now and then, it will blot out the sunshine.

:10:17. > :10:20.But the cloud will break up into the afternoon and then we see some good

:10:21. > :10:28.temperatures, 16, possibly 17 degrees again. Along the coast it is

:10:29. > :10:34.cooler at 14 or 15. Towards the end of the week, more cloud on Thursday

:10:35. > :10:39.that has the potential to produce showers but by Friday we see more

:10:40. > :10:44.persistent rain and that may well be with us into the weekend. Generally

:10:45. > :10:51.more unsettled, also the breeze picking up but it does stay quite

:10:52. > :10:57.mild. That is it from us for the moment. Join us tomorrow morning

:10:58. > :11:02.from 6:25am. From the late team, good night.

:11:03. > :11:08.will become drier and feel warm. Now the National forecast.

:11:09. > :11:17.Good evening. A quiet day on the weather front but we still managed

:11:18. > :11:21.to have some huge contrasts in the weather. This was a beautiful

:11:22. > :11:29.picture from Cumbria, blue skies and crystal clear blue skies in Argyll

:11:30. > :11:33.and Bute but closer to the north coast, it sends shivers down your

:11:34. > :11:39.spine! Chilly and cloudy all along that cost this bank of cloud that

:11:40. > :11:44.sliced the country in half, cool and cloudy to the east and to the West

:11:45. > :11:49.had sunshine. But it still been dry and it will stay that way for most

:11:50. > :11:54.of the week. As we get into Friday, there is some rain on the way. In

:11:55. > :11:58.the short-term, not much happening in the next few hours, quite a bit

:11:59. > :12:02.of cloud in most of England and Wales but many northern and western

:12:03. > :12:04.parts, the stars are out. Temperatures not
