:01:24. > :01:29.The Community Larder, backed by ten local churches,

:01:30. > :01:32.and housed at the Salvation Army hall is a foodbank

:01:33. > :01:35.Hamish Marshall has been to the centre which also gives

:01:36. > :01:38.advice to help people to try to find a way out of their problems.

:01:42. > :01:43.He is struggling on ?86 a fortnight, but he's being helped here.

:01:46. > :01:51.I have four kids coming to see me for Christmas

:01:52. > :01:53.and the people here have helped me with presents and food.

:01:54. > :01:55.I couldn't have done it without them.

:01:56. > :01:57.It's really difficult opening the cupboard and seeing just one

:01:58. > :02:01.But with the help of these people, they're full up.

:02:02. > :02:06.I appreciate so much that they have been really helpful.

:02:07. > :02:09.Upstairs, volunteers work to turn donations into help

:02:10. > :02:17.I'll put a tea in and if they prefer coffee,

:02:18. > :02:22.The work is to make sure that food which goes off soonest

:02:23. > :02:26.is distributed first and that there is a good mix

:02:27. > :02:33.We've been so lucky with donations from individuals,

:02:34. > :02:35.churches and supermarkets, so between labelling and putting

:02:36. > :02:38.them on the shelves and giving the stuff to our guests,

:02:39. > :02:51.Service started in September and has already helped more than 100 people.

:02:52. > :02:55.The idea was based on a model in Exmouth -

:02:56. > :03:00.to provide not just food, but also solving problems.

:03:01. > :03:03.There are so many different areas of need we are seeing coming through.

:03:04. > :03:07.We've got a wonderful volunteer base, approximately 70 volunteers

:03:08. > :03:12.and lots of experience within that, lots of retired teachers, nurses,

:03:13. > :03:17.so they have a wealth of experience that they can help us with.

:03:18. > :03:24.The motto here is giving a hand up, not just a hand-out.
