:00:32. > :00:39.A day after the news that Ashburton hospital could close,

:00:40. > :00:46.I was in here, and they helped me back to health again after three

:00:47. > :00:50.weeks, and then I was able to go home, and they were brilliant,

:00:51. > :00:53.and we really need to keep this hospital.

:00:54. > :00:56.While campaigners worry about the fragility of this

:00:57. > :01:00.community hospital, health bosses say that services in Torbay

:01:01. > :01:03.and South Devon are just as precarious, being neither

:01:04. > :01:07.sustainable, or consistently offering the required

:01:08. > :01:12.CHANTING : They say cutback, we say fightback.

:01:13. > :01:15.The plan from the clinical commissioning group is to look

:01:16. > :01:19.after more people at home and close four hospitals in Dartmouth,

:01:20. > :01:23.Paignton, Bovey Tracey, and here in Ashburton.

:01:24. > :01:25.Do you think they've already made that decision?

:01:26. > :01:27.I think they probably have made their decision,

:01:28. > :01:29.but we're not going to lie down and take it.

:01:30. > :01:32.We're going to fight right to the end and hope

:01:33. > :01:34.that they'll see sense, and see that we need these services

:01:35. > :01:39.On Thursday, a final decision will be made about the future

:01:40. > :01:42.of this hospital and the three others in South Devon.

:01:50. > :01:52.A driver had a lucky escape after a car plunged off a main

:01:53. > :01:55.road in South Devon, and struck the side of a house.

:01:56. > :01:58.The vehicle crashed through railings on the A379 in Yealmpton,

:01:59. > :02:00.becoming wedged between the property and the road.

:02:01. > :02:03.Police say the motorist escaped with minor injuries,

:02:04. > :02:09.48 tonnes of snow arrived in Exeter this morning to form a giant ski

:02:10. > :02:15.It was delivered by lorry from a ski centre in Milton Keynes.

:02:16. > :02:18.It's all part of a snow sports competition held at the university,

:02:19. > :02:24.involving skiers and snowboarders performing freestyle tricks.

:02:25. > :02:28.Freestyle is a type of skiing where people go in the air,

:02:29. > :02:31.they jump off boxes, it's like parkour, but on snow.

:02:32. > :02:33.It's super fun, really easy to get involved in,

:02:34. > :02:42.Onto the sport now, and in rugby there was disappointment

:02:43. > :02:44.for Exeter Chiefs, who took on the French side Clermont Auvergne

:02:45. > :02:49.Clermont got off to a perfect start, making it 34-0 at half time.

:02:50. > :02:51.In the second half, the Chiefs staged something of a comeback,

:03:26. > :03:32.Hundreds of people turned out for the BBC Radio Cornwall Present Aid

:03:33. > :03:37.The generous Cornish public have been donating unwanted Christmas

:03:38. > :03:41.gifts to raise money for local charities and community groups.

:03:42. > :03:44.The event is now in its thirteenth year.

:03:45. > :03:47.Over the years, the cash has gone to various different

:03:48. > :03:50.charities cross Cornwall, from the Cornwall Air Ambulance

:03:51. > :03:54.to the Precious Lives Appeal, but this year, we are raising funds

:03:55. > :03:56.for the BBC Radio Cornwall Appeal, which will go to very small

:03:57. > :04:00.organisations in Cornwall to keep the heart of those

:04:11. > :04:12.it's not been particularly warm, and I think as we head

:04:13. > :04:14.through tonight, we keep quite a bit of cloud.

:04:15. > :04:17.We will start to get some showers skirting the southern coast.

:04:18. > :04:21.Further east, actually, where we do keep some dry

:04:22. > :04:23.weather and simply spells, we could get a touch of frost,

:04:24. > :04:26.but I think most towns and cities tonight will stay that little

:04:27. > :04:30.So, a great start to the day tomorrow with these showers,

:04:31. > :04:33.I think it will tend to brighten up, particularly further east

:04:34. > :04:36.in the best of the sunshine, and actually, in the afternoon,

:04:37. > :04:38.quite a bit of cloud will have broken up.

:04:39. > :04:40.Temperatures up marginally on today, so perhaps not

:04:41. > :04:43.One or two spots could hit 10 degrees.

:04:44. > :04:46.We've got the risk of some freezing fog first thing on Monday,

:04:47. > :04:49.but I think for most of us it will be dry, bright, chilly,

:04:50. > :04:52.and it stays settled and mainly dry for most of next week.
