:00:24. > :00:26.Today's march launched the campaign to save them,

:00:27. > :00:32.Gathered in near-freezing temperatures, ready

:00:33. > :00:35.to march on the town centre to save their theatres.

:00:36. > :00:50.With music and singing, it's an entertaining affair.

:00:51. > :00:53.I think marches like this always does a lot of good because I think

:00:54. > :00:56.unless people raise their voices, then decisions get made and well,

:00:57. > :01:00.ultimately, the man in the street is the one who suffers.

:01:01. > :01:06.It's not surprising because people do feel very strongly

:01:07. > :01:11.that the theatre is a very important part of the life of Barnstaple

:01:12. > :01:19.The announcement that the North Devon Theatres Trust has gone

:01:20. > :01:21.into administration has been a devastating blow for staff.

:01:22. > :01:24.It's been a really hard week for the staff.

:01:25. > :01:27.It's great to see all these people turning out on such a cold,

:01:28. > :01:33.horrible day because they actually care and want to have the community

:01:34. > :01:35.hub in each of the towns involved in this, and if we can't keep that

:01:36. > :01:44.spirit alive and, you know, the heart of our town has gone.

:01:45. > :01:46.The North Devon Theatres Trust blames falling sales

:01:47. > :01:50.and a cut in subsidies for its financial problems.

:01:51. > :01:53.North Devon council says it spent nearly ?300,000 in the last year

:01:54. > :01:55.supporting the Trust and needs to make savings.

:01:56. > :01:58.Big turnouts are now expected that a public meeting on February 1st

:01:59. > :02:01.organised by the council to talk about the way forward

:02:02. > :02:10.Hundreds of people gathered at Exeter Cathedral this afternoon,

:02:11. > :02:13.to remember BBC Radio Devon presenter Tony Beard

:02:14. > :02:18.Tony, who died a year ago, broadcast on the station for 30 years,

:02:19. > :02:21.and many of his loyal listeners joined his family, friends

:02:22. > :02:26.and colleagues, to pay tribute to the Wag from Widecombe.

:02:27. > :02:29.If you met Dad, you know, he was everybody's friend.

:02:30. > :02:31.You sat there, you talked to him and within five

:02:32. > :02:34.minutes he was your best friend, you know.

:02:35. > :02:36.I think people generally across the South West of England

:02:37. > :02:42.felt that and I think they turned up today and paid their respects.

:02:43. > :02:45.He would have been humbled, and he would have used that word.

:02:46. > :02:48.He would have loved it as well, and it is sort of sad

:02:49. > :02:51.that he isn't because it is exactly the sort of thing he

:02:52. > :02:54.He would have loved talking to people, meeting people,

:02:55. > :02:57.he would like the fact that it was a big event.

:02:58. > :03:00.So ironically the sadness is that he's actually not here to enjoy it,

:03:01. > :03:04.Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are reminding

:03:05. > :03:07.people not to panic if they see smoke coming from Plymouth

:03:08. > :03:11.More than 150 firefighters will be using the now empty building

:03:12. > :03:15.to practice fighting fires and rescuing casualties

:03:16. > :03:22.The area around the Civic Centre and the car park will be cordoned off.

:03:23. > :03:26.In football, and it was another good day at the office for Exeter City.

:03:27. > :03:28.The Grecians are now unbeaten in ten games
