:00:16. > :00:18.for failing a family from Cornwall who lost their son to sepsis.

:00:19. > :00:21.Mr Hunt was speaking at a private service in Truro

:00:22. > :00:24.organised by Melissa Mead, whose little boy William was just

:00:25. > :00:35.A tribute, but also an apology to the Mead family.

:00:36. > :00:38.And I've come here today to say sorry.

:00:39. > :00:40.Because this weekend, William should have been enjoying

:00:41. > :00:45.the beautiful Cornish sunshine with his parents.

:00:46. > :00:50.And because we - I as Health Secretary,

:00:51. > :00:56.the Government, the NHS - let down William, Paul and Melissa.

:00:57. > :01:02.We didn't spot his sepsis before it was too late.

:01:03. > :01:06.Melissa Mead has campaigned at the highest level to raise

:01:07. > :01:10.Today's service was her way of saying thank you to all

:01:11. > :01:15.I think are so many people who've been involved in the campaign,

:01:16. > :01:21.Without the Government support, without the support

:01:22. > :01:23.of all the organisations, we wouldn't be here where

:01:24. > :01:27.we are today and have made the change that we have made.

:01:28. > :01:29.Sepsis is a bacterial infection that attacks the organs and body tissues,

:01:30. > :01:34.killing 44,000 people in the UK every year.

:01:35. > :01:38.Today was also about raising awareness for its victims.

:01:39. > :01:42.I think for the family, and for other families of children

:01:43. > :01:44.who've died in the South West, of little Sam Morrish and,

:01:45. > :01:48.of course, Charlie Jermyn, this is about taking William's legacy,

:01:49. > :01:51.taking Sam and Charlie's legacies, and turning them into lasting

:01:52. > :01:57.Evidence of William's lasting legacy.

:01:58. > :02:07.Even Jeremy Hunt now carries a sepsis symptoms awareness card.

:02:08. > :02:09.Maintaining high police visibility on the streets of Devon and Cornwall

:02:10. > :02:11.can't continue indefinately, according to the Police Federation.

:02:12. > :02:15.It comes as the force annouced members of the public may see

:02:16. > :02:19.an increase in patrols and more armed officers as a response

:02:20. > :02:22.to Wednesday's terror attack in Westminster.

:02:23. > :02:26.It's not something that can be achieved for a long-term response,

:02:27. > :02:29.due to the numbers of police officers there are.

:02:30. > :02:32.We've had a severe cut to the numbers and we haven't

:02:33. > :02:35.got sufficient police officers for that be sustainable.

:02:36. > :02:38.The threat level hasn't increased, and this will just be a response for

:02:39. > :02:42.reassurance for the public, based on what happened in London.

:02:43. > :02:45.But, no, I don't think that's sustainable.

:02:46. > :02:47.A leisure centre in Exeter that's been closed for over

:02:48. > :02:50.a month after a major fire will partially reopen tonight.

:02:51. > :02:54.The blaze broke out in the sauna of the Riverside Centre and people

:02:55. > :02:56.were evacuated as the building filled with smoke.

:02:57. > :02:58.The sports hall reopens for a boxing event this evening,

:02:59. > :03:02.whilst no date has still been set for the swimming pool.

:03:03. > :03:05.Rugby, and it was a good day for all our sides!
