0:00:02 > 0:00:04Welcome to the Weather For The Week Ahead.

0:00:04 > 0:00:06We're going to go further than a week -

0:00:06 > 0:00:08we're going to look out towards the ten-day period to see what

0:00:08 > 0:00:11the current thoughts are for such a long-range forecast.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14It looks as if we're going to start the week with a North-South split,

0:00:14 > 0:00:17with showers cropping up in the Southern half of the UK.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19Some spells of sunshine in between.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22Further north, it should be a largely dry day with variable cloud,

0:00:22 > 0:00:25maybe the odd light shower here or there in Scotland

0:00:25 > 0:00:27but I suspect most places are dry for most of the time.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30And it should be warmer in Glasgow - only 16 or 17 degrees today,

0:00:30 > 0:00:34up to around about 21 or so through tomorrow.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37And across Northern England, pleasantly warm with variable cloud

0:00:37 > 0:00:39and some sunshine, temperatures 22 or 23 degrees.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42Similar temperatures down across the Southeast -

0:00:42 > 0:00:44down on today's values, but still pleasantly warm

0:00:44 > 0:00:46away from those showers, and the showers will come and go

0:00:46 > 0:00:48but the winds are light so when they do arrive

0:00:48 > 0:00:50they could stick around for quite some time.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53As you can see, there are some drier, brighter interludes,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55and in the Southwest, away from the showers,

0:00:55 > 0:00:58temperatures of 21 or 22 degrees. So again, it's pleasantly warm.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00A scattering of showers across Wales -

0:01:00 > 0:01:02there'll be some drier, brighter interludes as well.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05In Northern Ireland it is a largely dry picture,

0:01:05 > 0:01:08and we should see temperatures around 19 or 20 degrees.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10Through the evening, we've got to watch out from the Southeast

0:01:10 > 0:01:13because there could well be another bout of heavy showers.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15Could be some thunder and lightning with those,

0:01:15 > 0:01:17but for many it is dry through Tuesday night,

0:01:17 > 0:01:20although we'll see this weather front advancing as we look towards dawn.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23By which stage temperatures are 14 to 15 degrees -

0:01:23 > 0:01:25only 15 in the Southeast,

0:01:25 > 0:01:28that's increasingly fresh nights over the coming few nights.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30As you look towards Tuesday,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32we've got this weather front in the North and West.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34Behind that, it's a bit of a breeze -

0:01:34 > 0:01:36these isobars are fairly tightly packed.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39But that weather front is moving into an area of high pressure,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41so the rainfall on it is just going to fizzle out.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44But there will be some as it crosses its way across Scotland,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46maybe some into Northern Ireland.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48Down through the Midlands, some hazy sunshine,

0:01:48 > 0:01:51and some sunshine towards London. Here it will be quite warm.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53But for many it's only 21 or so degrees.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Now, as you go through Tuesday night into Wednesday,

0:01:55 > 0:01:58this cold front will slip south, so as we get on into Wednesday

0:01:58 > 0:02:01I think temperatures will drop by a couple of degrees

0:02:01 > 0:02:02across most of the UK.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05And we've got this increasingly fresh Northwesterly wind,

0:02:05 > 0:02:08in fact, quite strong winds across the North of Scotland,

0:02:08 > 0:02:10where it will be quite cloudy, quite windy,

0:02:10 > 0:02:11and there will be outbreaks of rain around.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15Maybe a scattering of showers for Northern Ireland and Northern England

0:02:15 > 0:02:17but further south it's a largely dry day

0:02:17 > 0:02:19with temperatures in London dropping back by a few degrees,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21down to 23 or 24.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24And for Thursday, low pressure still to the North of us,

0:02:24 > 0:02:27it's driving in these West to Northwesterly winds.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30I think the worst we're going to see on Thursday is a good crop of showers

0:02:30 > 0:02:33coming in to the North and the West of the United Kingdom.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35Maybe one or two cropping up further south,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38but I suspect the Southeastern corner probably stays dry.

0:02:38 > 0:02:42And here we'll see temperatures around about 24 or 25 degrees.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45Towards the end of the week, low pressure really takes over,

0:02:45 > 0:02:48and the weather fronts will be drifting in from the West.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50Ahead of that I think we will see a fair bit of cloud

0:02:50 > 0:02:52and outbreaks of rain on the Western side of England,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54Wales, and showers across Scotland.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56Then later on some heavier rain begins to develop

0:02:56 > 0:03:00in Northern Ireland, and maybe a few showers cropping up further east.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02As we look towards the six to ten-day period,

0:03:02 > 0:03:05well, low pressure looks like it will be the dominant force.

0:03:05 > 0:03:09It'll be unsettled, it'll be breezy with some rain at times,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11so that could be quite heavy. But it's not all doom and gloom -

0:03:11 > 0:03:13there should be some sunshine at times.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15Here's the current thinking.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17This low will be to the North of us,

0:03:17 > 0:03:18high to the South,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20the winds will be Westerly,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22dragging in some fairly unsettled weather at times.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25A lot of cloud, some rain - difficult to say where the heaviest rain

0:03:25 > 0:03:28is likely to be, but at the moment it's probably in the North and West.
