0:00:02 > 0:00:05Time for our nightly update on the weather for the week ahead
0:00:05 > 0:00:08and a brief hint at what might lie beyond that.
0:00:08 > 0:00:10A very mixed weekend out there at the moment,
0:00:10 > 0:00:13with some places seeing a lot of rain and sunshine.
0:00:13 > 0:00:16It's similar again tomorrow. The sunniest of the weather in the South.
0:00:16 > 0:00:18Further showers to come in the North
0:00:18 > 0:00:20and there will be a blustery wind for many of us,
0:00:20 > 0:00:21particularly across
0:00:21 > 0:00:23Northern and Western parts of the UK.
0:00:23 > 0:00:24That's where most of the rain will be,
0:00:24 > 0:00:26for parts of Northern Ireland,
0:00:26 > 0:00:28the far Northwest of England and Wales
0:00:28 > 0:00:30and Scotland. Through the heart of Scotland
0:00:30 > 0:00:32there'll be slow-moving, thundery downpours.
0:00:32 > 0:00:33Further South, across England and Wales,
0:00:33 > 0:00:36a nice day to come. A breeze but in the sunshine
0:00:36 > 0:00:37it'll feel very pleasant indeed -
0:00:37 > 0:00:38into the mid-20s across
0:00:38 > 0:00:40East Anglia and the Southeast.
0:00:40 > 0:00:42Not as cool as it has been on Saturday
0:00:42 > 0:00:44across Northern Ireland and Scotland.
0:00:44 > 0:00:46Further blustery showers to come
0:00:46 > 0:00:47as we go into the night.
0:00:47 > 0:00:49The low pressure responsible
0:00:49 > 0:00:51just gradually drifting away
0:00:51 > 0:00:52Northwards but it'll leave
0:00:52 > 0:00:54a legacy of a few showers into Monday
0:00:54 > 0:00:56across parts of the North
0:00:56 > 0:00:57and West of Scotland in particular.
0:00:57 > 0:01:00Further South, furthest away from that low pressure,
0:01:00 > 0:01:03it's a fine start to the working week.
0:01:03 > 0:01:05Things will improve across Scotland
0:01:05 > 0:01:07with the showers tending to fade away
0:01:07 > 0:01:09and most places can look forward to
0:01:09 > 0:01:10a decent start to the week.
0:01:10 > 0:01:12The wind won't be so strong
0:01:12 > 0:01:14and, of course, fewer showers around -
0:01:14 > 0:01:16one or two, as I mentioned,
0:01:16 > 0:01:18across the Northwest of Scotland.
0:01:18 > 0:01:19But in the sunshine
0:01:19 > 0:01:21it'll feel pretty pleasant out there -
0:01:21 > 0:01:24temperatures widely up into the low to mid-20s
0:01:24 > 0:01:25across the South and the East,
0:01:25 > 0:01:27and up into the high teens
0:01:27 > 0:01:29across Northern Ireland and Scotland.
0:01:29 > 0:01:31So that's Monday.
0:01:31 > 0:01:33It gets complicated through this week
0:01:33 > 0:01:35with initially some weak fronts
0:01:35 > 0:01:37pushing in from the West.
0:01:37 > 0:01:39What they'll do is pep up the shower activity,
0:01:39 > 0:01:41noticeably across more Western parts
0:01:41 > 0:01:43of the UK as we go through Tuesday.
0:01:43 > 0:01:44Some of those showers
0:01:44 > 0:01:47could be quite heavy and possibly thundery,
0:01:47 > 0:01:49whereas further East will hold on to some dry
0:01:49 > 0:01:51and bright weather for much of the day.
0:01:51 > 0:01:54But more showers on Tuesday compared to Monday.
0:01:54 > 0:01:56Temperatures though, in the sunny spells,
0:01:56 > 0:01:57again doing pretty well -
0:01:57 > 0:01:59up into the low, possibly mid-20s.
0:01:59 > 0:02:00The highest temperatures
0:02:00 > 0:02:02always the further South and East we go.
0:02:02 > 0:02:03But even across Northern Ireland
0:02:03 > 0:02:05and Scotland, in the brighter spells,
0:02:05 > 0:02:07will reach respectability temperature wise.
0:02:07 > 0:02:10By Wednesday, one set of fronts moves away
0:02:10 > 0:02:11and then we've got more fronts
0:02:11 > 0:02:13coming in from the Southwest
0:02:13 > 0:02:15threatening more persistent rain later on.
0:02:15 > 0:02:17Ahead of that, again, plenty of dry weather around.
0:02:17 > 0:02:19There will be some showers dotted around,
0:02:19 > 0:02:21difficult to pin down the detail.
0:02:21 > 0:02:24What we do think'll happen on Thursday, we can see this area
0:02:24 > 0:02:26of low pressure crossing the country,
0:02:26 > 0:02:27that gives the potential for
0:02:27 > 0:02:29some more persistent and heavy rain.
0:02:29 > 0:02:31The location of that low of course will be critical
0:02:31 > 0:02:33to where the wettest weather will be.
0:02:33 > 0:02:35But watch out for some heavier rain
0:02:35 > 0:02:36during the course of Thursday.
0:02:36 > 0:02:39Now then there's always be warm and very humid air
0:02:39 > 0:02:41close by on the near continent.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44And it could well be that, as we end the week and go into
0:02:44 > 0:02:46the early part of the weekend,
0:02:46 > 0:02:47we could see some of that warm air
0:02:47 > 0:02:49affecting the more Southern and Eastern areas.
0:02:49 > 0:02:51It could turn quite hot and humid briefly
0:02:51 > 0:02:53but that will only trigger some thunderstorms.
0:02:53 > 0:02:55So that's one to watch.
0:02:55 > 0:02:56After that, it looks as if
0:02:56 > 0:02:59Westerly winds will begin to win out,
0:02:59 > 0:03:02pushing that warm, humid air away
0:03:02 > 0:03:04and we're into a fresh, westerly wind.
0:03:04 > 0:03:06The showers closest to the low pressure,
0:03:06 > 0:03:08the best of the sunshine closest to
0:03:08 > 0:03:10the high pressure in the South.
0:03:10 > 0:03:11So a lot of uncertainty
0:03:11 > 0:03:13as we go into the extended period.
0:03:13 > 0:03:16There is a chance that we'll see some pretty warm
0:03:16 > 0:03:19and humid air coming up across the Southeast for a time,
0:03:19 > 0:03:22sparking some thunderstorms, but then they clear through
0:03:22 > 0:03:26and we're into those cooler, fresher but still unsettled Westerly winds.
0:03:26 > 0:03:29I'll give you another update, here tomorrow night.
0:03:34 > 0:03:37When wild animals get sick, it takes radical thinking,
0:03:37 > 0:03:40extraordinary medical skills and great bravery
0:03:40 > 0:03:42to treat them and save lives.
0:03:42 > 0:03:45This is routine for me. The problem is to do it on a rhinoceros.
0:03:47 > 0:03:50This is real bionic stuff, it's amazing.
0:03:50 > 0:03:53This is the trickiest ultrasound I've ever seen.
0:03:53 > 0:03:55I've never seen the scale of this sort of operation before.
