0:00:03 > 0:00:06Thanks for tuning in to our latest thoughts on the weather prospects
0:00:06 > 0:00:08for the rest of the week, the weekend and beyond,
0:00:08 > 0:00:11and there's something quite interesting in terms of the weather
0:00:11 > 0:00:13heading our way for the second half of the weekend,
0:00:13 > 0:00:16something that has a tropical origin.
0:00:16 > 0:00:20We'll get to that in a moment, but first of all, the here and now,
0:00:20 > 0:00:23and the weather's relatively quiet across the UK for the moment.
0:00:23 > 0:00:25This is Tuesday. You'll notice quite a bit of sunshine
0:00:25 > 0:00:28to start the day across many Eastern areas of the country.
0:00:28 > 0:00:31But if you live further West, from Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire,
0:00:31 > 0:00:33into Wales, around the Irish Sea,
0:00:33 > 0:00:36Northern Ireland and Southwestern Scotland in particular,
0:00:36 > 0:00:39here it does look as though you may need your umbrella at some point.
0:00:39 > 0:00:42Could even be a downpour. But it will be still quite warm,
0:00:42 > 0:00:4525 in London, and even in Newcastle itself a pleasant 21 Celsius.
0:00:45 > 0:00:48Now, Wednesday is going to be a very different day.
0:00:48 > 0:00:52In fact, this big area of low pressure across the North Atlantic
0:00:52 > 0:00:55is made up of smaller areas of low pressure,
0:00:55 > 0:00:58and one of these is going to be sitting right on top of the UK
0:00:58 > 0:01:01on Wednesday, and that effectively means lots of cloud and some rain.
0:01:01 > 0:01:04You'll notice it's quite a big band of rain.
0:01:04 > 0:01:07The rain is going to clear away eventually
0:01:07 > 0:01:09from Wales and the South of England,
0:01:09 > 0:01:12so by the time we get to the afternoon, the weather will improve.
0:01:12 > 0:01:13There will be some sunshine,
0:01:13 > 0:01:17but there could be some hefty showers here and there from time to time.
0:01:17 > 0:01:19If you live in Eastern Scotland and Northern Scotland,
0:01:19 > 0:01:22it may well rain right through the course of the afternoon.
0:01:22 > 0:01:25And then we say goodbye to one area of low pressure here.
0:01:25 > 0:01:26There's another one heading our way,
0:01:26 > 0:01:28but we're in-between these areas of low pressure,
0:01:28 > 0:01:32so that means a spell of much better weather on the way for Thursday.
0:01:32 > 0:01:35So I think Thursday we say goodbye to the rain.
0:01:35 > 0:01:37It moves out into the North Sea.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40We're left with some sunshine, light winds as well.
0:01:40 > 0:01:43It really should be a very pleasant day for most of us on Thursday,
0:01:43 > 0:01:46with temperatures into the mid-20s across the Southeast,
0:01:46 > 0:01:47in Scotland more like 18 degrees,
0:01:47 > 0:01:49so a really nice day to come on Thursday.
0:01:49 > 0:01:52And then, as we head into Friday, again it changes a little bit.
0:01:52 > 0:01:54We lose that window of fine weather,
0:01:54 > 0:01:57because this big area of low pressure is kind of driving the whole system
0:01:57 > 0:02:01and shunting these smaller "lowlets", if you like, in our direction.
0:02:01 > 0:02:05So as we head through Friday, there is a chance there will be some rain.
0:02:05 > 0:02:08Remember that we're looking at quite a distant time into the future,
0:02:08 > 0:02:11so the actual accuracy
0:02:11 > 0:02:16of where the spells of rain will occur on Friday is still uncertain.
0:02:16 > 0:02:19But there will be some rain around for sure towards the end of the week.
0:02:19 > 0:02:23And then of course beyond that, even more uncertainty for Saturday.
0:02:23 > 0:02:26This area of low pressure that drifts out from the South, from France,
0:02:26 > 0:02:29is potentially going to bring some quite heavy rain
0:02:29 > 0:02:31to some Eastern areas and quite gusty winds, as well.
0:02:31 > 0:02:34You can see a big contrast between the weather here and here.
0:02:34 > 0:02:38All it will take is for this area of low pressure to be a bit further West
0:02:38 > 0:02:41and it will upset the weather across Yorkshire and the South of England.
0:02:41 > 0:02:43So just bear in mind that there will be a lot of heavy rain
0:02:43 > 0:02:46and some gusty winds around through the course of the weekend.
0:02:46 > 0:02:49This is what's happening right now. Let me take you to the Tropics.
0:02:49 > 0:02:52There's Hispaniola, Puerto Rico here, Cuba, the Bahamas.
0:02:52 > 0:02:55This is Hurricane Bertha.
0:02:55 > 0:02:59It's between the Bahamas here and Bermuda here.
0:02:59 > 0:03:02It looks as though over the next few days it is actually going to weaken
0:03:02 > 0:03:06back down to a tropical storm. It'll only be a hurricane briefly.
0:03:06 > 0:03:08And then you can see the general drift of this storm
0:03:08 > 0:03:12is in the direction of Europe, and not just Europe but in our direction.
0:03:12 > 0:03:14So that means that indirectly...
0:03:14 > 0:03:16If you were watching John Hammond yesterday,
0:03:16 > 0:03:18he was explaining that indirectly that storm may affect us,
0:03:18 > 0:03:21so be prepared, in this period, certainly round Sunday,
0:03:21 > 0:03:24for some heavy rain, some gusty winds.
0:03:24 > 0:03:27But it does look as though the weather is going to improve
0:03:27 > 0:03:29once we're out of that storm's way.
0:03:34 > 0:03:38Men of England, heirs of glory
0:03:38 > 0:03:40Heroes of unwritten story...
0:03:40 > 0:03:42Bert Middleton. Yes.
0:03:42 > 0:03:43Do you trust him? Yes.
0:03:43 > 0:03:45Then I should. No.
0:03:45 > 0:03:48Cos the more he can't have you, the more he'll want you.
0:03:48 > 0:03:51..Rise like lions after slumber
0:03:51 > 0:03:53In unvanquishable number...
