0:00:03 > 0:00:05Thanks for joining me and tuning in

0:00:05 > 0:00:07to our extended nightly weather forecast.

0:00:07 > 0:00:11We'll have a look at the trends into next week and the weekend as well

0:00:11 > 0:00:14and the prospects of some bad weather heading our way.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16But first of all, let's talk about the here and now.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19Wednesday wasn't a bad day across the country, at least for most of us.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21We had some heavy showers, downpours in places,

0:00:21 > 0:00:24for example in Newcastle and parts of Northern Ireland.

0:00:24 > 0:00:28But as we head into Thursday, the relatively quiet weather continues,

0:00:28 > 0:00:30with plenty of sunshine, a little on the hazy side,

0:00:30 > 0:00:33and maybe the odd shower here and there,

0:00:33 > 0:00:36but most of the showers shouldn't be too heavy

0:00:36 > 0:00:37and there won't be too many of them.

0:00:37 > 0:00:41Temperatures at best will get up to 25, we think, in the London area,

0:00:41 > 0:00:45more like the high teens or nudging up to 20 in Glasgow and in Newcastle.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47So, that's Thursday.

0:00:47 > 0:00:51Things do change as we head into the last day of the working week.

0:00:51 > 0:00:55For Friday, this area of low pressure swings out of the Bay of Biscay,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57and the thinking is that Southern England,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59the Southeast and East Anglia

0:00:59 > 0:01:03are in for some pretty heavy rain, at least a spell of heavy rain.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06Also, some heavy rain is heading in the direction of Northern Ireland,

0:01:06 > 0:01:09but you'll see that there's this slither in the middle of the UK,

0:01:09 > 0:01:12between this area of rain here and here,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15where we're actually going to have plenty of bright weather

0:01:15 > 0:01:16but also some showers,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18so really the best way to describe it

0:01:18 > 0:01:22is a messy day on Friday, very changeable, from sunshine to rain,

0:01:22 > 0:01:23perhaps to sunshine again.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25But be prepared for quite a few downpours.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27And then, as we head into Saturday,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29that area of low pressure is going to probably graze,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31at least in the morning, Eastern parts of Scotland.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34It could give gusty conditions and heavy rain.

0:01:34 > 0:01:35But we're between weather systems,

0:01:35 > 0:01:38so the weather's looking decent on Saturday, with some sunshine.

0:01:38 > 0:01:42I suspect the best of the weather will be across more Eastern areas,

0:01:42 > 0:01:44whereas in the West we'll catch a few showers.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48And then, beyond that, that's when things become a bit more interesting.

0:01:48 > 0:01:52So after some relatively quiet weather on Saturday,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54all eyes are on the Atlantic.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56Now, let me show you the satellite picture

0:01:56 > 0:01:59of what's happening just off the Eastern seaboard of the US right now.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02This is actually ex-tropical storm Bertha.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05Or it used to be a hurricane. Ex-hurricane Bertha.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08It is drifting very slowly in our direction.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11There are two scenarios of how this, or the remnants of it, may affect us.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14One track takes it sort of more into France, the Bay of Biscay

0:02:14 > 0:02:17and into France, so the storm's a little bit further South.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20Another track could take it more directly over the UK

0:02:20 > 0:02:21by the time we get to Sunday.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24So there are these two scenarios, and we're still not quite sure

0:02:24 > 0:02:27which way this weather system is going to swing.

0:02:27 > 0:02:28And actually it's not here,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30it's the one down here,

0:02:30 > 0:02:31strong winds, gale-force winds

0:02:31 > 0:02:34and heavy rain spreading into the South of the country.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37And this could be heavy rain, but, as I say, it may miss us,

0:02:37 > 0:02:38it may go further South.

0:02:38 > 0:02:42It could go further North, affecting more parts of the country.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44And then by the time we get to Monday,

0:02:44 > 0:02:45that poor weather will slip away

0:02:45 > 0:02:48into either the near Continent or into the North Sea.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50It really depends which way it goes.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53And it does look as though things will tend to quieten down

0:02:53 > 0:02:55by the time we get to Monday, with some sunshine.

0:02:55 > 0:02:59But by this stage, the forecast is becoming a little bit uncertain.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02So what do we think is going to happen from round about Tuesday?

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Well, it does look as though low pressure's going to be

0:03:05 > 0:03:08in charge of the weather across the Northern part of the country,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10whereas high pressure will be to the South,

0:03:10 > 0:03:13and that effectively translates to kind of a typical weather situation

0:03:13 > 0:03:16that we get this time of the year in the summer.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18Before that, we still have to get through that storm,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20so there's a lot of uncertainty in that,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22but it does look as though through that period

0:03:22 > 0:03:24the driest weather will be in the South,

0:03:24 > 0:03:28whereas in Scotland and Northern Ireland, it looks more showery.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30But stay tuned to our forecasts. That's the latest.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35I've never ever, ever done gymnastics at all.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37If their hands aren't bleeding,

0:03:37 > 0:03:39they haven't trained hard enough. Crazy hard.
