0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. It's that time of day where we take a longer look at the weather,

0:00:06 > 0:00:08we go beyond the usual five-day period

0:00:08 > 0:00:11and peek at what the six-to-ten-day period has in store for us.

0:00:11 > 0:00:12But we'll start with Saturday

0:00:12 > 0:00:14and, for many, after today's thunderstorms,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16it's going to be a vast improvement,

0:00:16 > 0:00:18with a lot of dry, bright and breezy weather

0:00:18 > 0:00:21across most parts of the United Kingdom.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23Having said that, it's not going to be dry for all of us

0:00:23 > 0:00:26because, in the Northern Isles, it's going to be quite wet and windy

0:00:26 > 0:00:27But for the bulk of the mainland,

0:00:27 > 0:00:29there are good spells of sunshine to be found.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31That's certainly the case in Eastern Scotland.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33Western Scotland may pick up a few showers

0:00:33 > 0:00:34but they're few and far between.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37A lovely, dry afternoon in Northern England, 20-odd degrees.

0:00:37 > 0:00:38Bright and breezy.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41More cloud as you get into East Anglia and the Southeast.

0:00:41 > 0:00:42In spite of the extra cloud,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44I suspect most places will stay fine and dry.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46And pleasantly warm, at 23 or so degrees.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49That will be tempered somewhat by the breeze.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51The breeze is more noticeable in the Southwest -

0:00:51 > 0:00:52temperatures are lower here.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54More cloud around and the chance of a few showers.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57The showers should move through quickly on the breeze.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59The showers themselves are fairly few and far between.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Much of Wales sees some good spells of sunshine,

0:01:01 > 0:01:04bright and breezy for the most part, just the odd shower.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07Northern Ireland could be a focal point for some more frequent showers.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10As we get onto the evening, we start to look towards the South and west

0:01:10 > 0:01:12because the rain is going to be turning heavier and heavier

0:01:12 > 0:01:16and we could well see some quite heavy rain by dawn on Sunday.

0:01:16 > 0:01:17And, further North,

0:01:17 > 0:01:20we have got a scattering of showers across many parts of the UK.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23But it's all eyes towards the South and the West

0:01:23 > 0:01:25because this area of rain, several days ago,

0:01:25 > 0:01:27was a hurricane on the other side of the Atlantic.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29As it's come across the Atlantic,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31it's gone through a considerable transition

0:01:31 > 0:01:32and now it's just an Atlantic low.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34It is set to bring some wet and windy weather

0:01:34 > 0:01:37across many parts of the UK during the day on Sunday.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39Some heavy rain working its way North through the morning,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41it covers much of England, Wales,

0:01:41 > 0:01:43and it eventually gets towards the East of Scotland.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46Into the afternoon, it does dry up in the South

0:01:46 > 0:01:47and temperatures get up to 21 or 22 degrees.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50But it will be quite windy, particularly around those coasts,

0:01:50 > 0:01:53it will be gusting up to around 50 or 60 miles an hour.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56And I expect we will see some fairly considerable impacts

0:01:56 > 0:01:58from all of this on Sunday.

0:01:58 > 0:01:59One-two inches of rain,

0:01:59 > 0:02:02gusts of wind of 50-60 miles an hour around the coast

0:02:02 > 0:02:04and also around the coast, we've large waves and high tides -

0:02:04 > 0:02:07we have to throw that into the mix.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10Now, on Monday, the driving low moves its weight ever Northwards,

0:02:10 > 0:02:11up into the Northern North Sea,

0:02:11 > 0:02:14so wet and windy conditions will be rotating around that,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16getting into the North of Scotland.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19Elsewhere, it is a windy day with sunny spells

0:02:19 > 0:02:21but also some fairly frequent showers.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Now, that same low is still driving our weather

0:02:23 > 0:02:25through Monday night and on into Tuesday.

0:02:25 > 0:02:26The wind's coming around it,

0:02:26 > 0:02:29so it's a West or Northwesterly wind on Tuesday

0:02:29 > 0:02:32and it will be quite a strong West or Northwesterly wind.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34A lot of showers again on Tuesday.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36Most of the showers will be in the North and West

0:02:36 > 0:02:39and a few will get towards the Eastern side.

0:02:39 > 0:02:40Temperatures beginning to struggle,

0:02:40 > 0:02:44maybe only 16 degrees in the North and West of the UK.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46Into the middle of the week and, if anything,

0:02:46 > 0:02:47those isobars get a little bit tighter,

0:02:47 > 0:02:51so the winds even stronger from the West or Northwest again on Wednesday.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53And, again, it is a showery sort of look to things.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Most of the showers on Wednesday

0:02:55 > 0:02:56will be in the North and the West of the UK.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59Down towards the South and the East, probably a bit drier

0:02:59 > 0:03:01but you can't rule out the odd shower getting across,

0:03:01 > 0:03:02given the strength of the winds.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04Now, the six-to-ten-day period -

0:03:04 > 0:03:07that low is still to the North or Northeast of the United Kingdom

0:03:07 > 0:03:11and it's still driving these West or Northwesterly winds across the UK.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13And the winds will be a key feature of this period

0:03:13 > 0:03:15because the winds will be much stronger

0:03:15 > 0:03:17than you expect for this time of the year.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20It will bring a cool feel to things as well.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23I think daytime temperatures will be struggling, a bit below average.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25There will be some chilly nights as well.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27Overall, it looks unsettled, with sunshine and showers.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Most of the showers in the North and West.

0:03:31 > 0:03:32Hi, I'm Richard Osman and why not join me

0:03:32 > 0:03:34for my brand-new quiz, Two Tribes?

0:03:34 > 0:03:37We split contestants into tribes, we ask them lots of questions.
